My sister lives in Tassie. I've been visiting a couple of times a year for nearly 30 years. Awesome place. So much food. As a Chef from Melbourne, it pains me to say, that place is the food capital of Australia. Gin, Whiskey and Beer are next level too🤘
We do not hate Tasmania it is part of Australia and we go to have holidays, it is one of most beautiful parts of the country. However we do takes the piss as they do.
I have spent a bit of time on Bruny Island. The locals say 'we are on an island off an island off an island.' A few years ago the pub at Lunawanna claimed it was the southern most pub in Australia. The pub at Snug on the mainland disagreed. So they decided to settle it in a very Australian way; a game of cricket. The issue was never resolved as the game was abandoned when the players became too drunk to continue. Everyone adjourned to the bar to continue the argument. One would have thought that a simple check on the map would sort this out but nah, this is Tasmania.
I think the reason some of us Tasmanians get upset about being left off the map is, we are not just another island off the coast of Australia, we are a state. We deserve to be treated withe the same respect as all other stats and Territories.
As a Tasmaniac, I can confirm that NZ (especially the South Island) and Tasmania have a connection as fellow 'islanders'. There's an almost unspoken respect for and acknowledgement of each other.
I despise them and their damn apples. and their Cascade brewery. oh and Primrose Sands- can't stand that place. and David Boon. Don't get me started on Boonie. But I really hate South Australia!
I think the difference with Hawaii being forgotten on a map/logo of the USA and Tasmania being left off an Australian map/logo is that Tasmania is 4 times as big as the Hawaiian islands collectively (the state of Hawaii). We’re not as small as our population would portray. Tasmania is almost exactly the same size as the Republic of Ireland.
John Donaldson, Queen Mary's Dad was an Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at the University of Tasmania and he was assigned as my fellow at my residential college. Know him and his wife well. This was back in the early 00s when Mary had just started dating Prince Frederick.
Was born in Tassie, spent 35 years in Queensland and moved back to Tasmania 8 years. It’s not perfect, but what state is??… Absolutely love Tasmania. Life is just easy here.
World's cleanest air, breathtaking scenery amazing produce/food/wine/booze. Dark history of convict past and treatment of our first nation's people. Proud Victorian here and I love the apple isle.😊
I’ve lived and worked in dozens of countries around the world, and even if I didn’t have friends or family in Tasmania, I would still return there to my roots. It’s the most peaceful, relaxing place I’ve ever lived. There used to be a joke about Tasmanians being so laid back they were horizontal 😂
76,000 convicts The British Government transported about 76,000 convicts to Tasmania between 1804 and 1853.162,000 convicts Between 1788 and 1868 more than 162,000 convicts were transported to Australia. Of these, about 7,000 arrived in 1833 alone
Hi Ryan, you’ve gotta remember that we are upside down to the US. The land at the bottom is colder not hotter…think of it as New England rather than Florida. Beautiful island, clean and really fresh wind since it comes directly from the South Pole.🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have never heard of people hating Tasmania. A lot of mainland Australians haven’t visited Tassie. They say it looks beautiful, but they don’t go and experience it for themselves. It’s only an hour plane trip from Melbourne or overnight on the ferry and you can take your car with you.
The 'Dark times' referred to is the convict jails and ruins in Port Arthur, Tasmania it demonstrates the revolting manner in which the convicts were incarcerated. The tragedy that shocked Australians happened in Port Arthur a few years ago when the lowest form of life slaughtered visitors with automatic and semi-automatic weapons, the legacy from this was the introduction of strict gun laws.
As a QLDer I adore Tassie! Went for a week's holiday for the first time a year ago and totally fell in love! Also Ryan, you love the Tassie devil- wait til you hear about the cute little albino wallabies that are only on Bruny Island- caught sight of a few when I visited last year- adorable!

My late wife was from Huonville which is south of Hobart. It was lovely for a holiday. Not much employment to live there. Some very rugged areas where no housing could be built. Yes it can get very cold. The grandparents of my late wife would not travel on a ship or a plane, so spent their whole life in Tasmania.

It's cold , when you get further south in Australia into vic, s.a and tassie , get warm with a nice heater, it's really cold cold cold it's on the edge of the Antarctic winds
It’s a mild climate - haven’t you been anywhere on the planet that is really cold? Also it dead smack in the middle of the roaring 40’s which causes most of the cold winds from the West. -yes South Westerly’s are cold!
I'm from South Australia and visited Tassie a few times over the years. There is nothing wrong with it at all. It has a beautiful scenic panorama and a lot of Aussie history down there. Hobart is the main city which is situated at the southern end of Tasmania. Famous names like Queen Mary from Denmark and Errol Flynn who played Robin Hood in Hollywood in the 1930s - well they hailed from there. It's got an English feel to it - like British feel. It's a cold place and that would be the reason some Aussies don't like it. But from my perspective, I loved travelling around there.
My first visit to Tassie about 10 years ago, I was in Hobart walking past the docks. Some fishing boats had come in that day. There was a guy having a piss off the dock into the water. The centre of Hobart around 2pm. 🤣🤣 Tassie is great, beautiful place with great food and people.
I have lived in NSW but returned , I have heard all the joke . The Weather is unpredictable don't care you can always get warm best place. I returned after 15 yrs.
Oh, and that Two Headed joke stems from way back in the day. The Tassie soil is naturally deficient in Iodine, so before Iodised salt and other iodised foodstuffs were developed and released there was an epidemic of hypothyroidism, or goitres.
Ryan Tasmania is a state of Australia. New Zealand is a totally separate country. I was still at school when I went to Tassie for a holiday but I still have very happy memories of the trip.
Bumblebee establishment in Tasmanian occurred on the 19th Feb. 1992. The native "Blue Banded Bee" on the mainland is also technically a bumblebee (Buzz Pollinator).
Funnily enough, I lived in Tassie until 2001. First time I saw a bumblebee was when I went back in 2005 on holiday. Spread took a few years. Maybe just took time for them to make it to the north of the state.
Love Tassie. My mum and father in-law are Tasmanian (New Norfolk & Burnie) So much to see and do there My grandfather had a hop farm near Ellendale Spent many a Christmas there
Hobart is beautiful. It’s very clean and has the freshest food. The people are very friendly and nice unlike all the other states. Flying over Tasmania is amazing seeing the mountains. Seeing mount Wellington standing out over the city is amazing sight
Hey Ryan always enjoying your channel. Hobart tasmania is a stunning city. Magnificent veiws of the water and mountains snow capped often. It's seriously cold at times. Old Victorian stone buildings. Great restaurants in north hobart and the waterfront. It's an 1hr 15 flight from Melbourne. Which is really a large city. As Victorian there's definitely an an connection with our southern cousins. Along way from Indiana but worth being on the bucket list. Crisp cool sunshine filled days across stunning scenery 👍😀
Tassie is awesome Ryan. I've lived all over Australia, but I like Tas more. People are more friendly, it's cleaner, slower paced and less commercial. People here recycle more from tip waste and reuse and repurpose heaps of stuff. Beautiful beaches, fantastic cool temperate rainforests, cool animals, snowy mountains, great fishing, the list goes on. Come on down Ryan, you won't want to leave.
As someone who's lived a large portion of life in queensland in the entertainment industry, you notice a real lot of transients. Usually people escaping from somewhere else for possible dubious reasons.
Wait just finished.. did she really just say Bondi is the only beach Sydney has? 😂 maybe she shouldn’t comment if she’s never been to Sydney… there’s tons of beaches!
Gday i so want to move to tassy when we got off the boat at devonport and got through the custom check there was ppl handing out tourist info and the 1st thing they say to me was welcome to the mainland lol cheers
I was a kid watching old movies on TV, some of my favs starred Errol Flynn (Captain Blood, Robin Hood, Dawn Patrol, etc.), but I was in my 20's before I learned Errol was born in Tasmania. I remember being surprised, I thought he was British, but also being intrigued because Tasmania seemed so exotic. Anyway, i'm still impressed that Tasmania produced such a fine actor.
Every time a Tasmanian friend makes the argument of 'Its the nicest bit of Australia' 'It's where you want to live' etc., I can't help but think 'Why did you move to Perth?'
Love Tasmania and the people. All beautiful. Son worked there for many years and I visited . Great for a holiday too. English and Scottish ancestors started off there. ❤❤
I'm Tassie born and bred, and would never live anywhere else. We are a small Island, we don't have a huge population but we have a slower pace of life, we have amazing beaches and stunning mountains, beautiful forests and rivers and the cleanest air in the world, We drink our water straight from the tap (not all mainlanders can do that) we can drive from one end of our Island in around 1 1/2 - 2 hours, about the same time as some mainlanders spend driving to work. This amazing little place is laid back, the people are friendly, happy and funny. There are a lot of things that aren't perfect here but we'll maybe contemplate changes over a good brew with mates and family or probably not.
Nobody hates Tassie, it's like the little brother. We poke fun at them for having two heads but that's Aussie tradition. It's beautiful and worth a visit.
I wouldn't live anywhere else and the sporting rivalry is huge. Our basketball team, the Tasmanian JackJumpers won the national championship against Melbourne United earlier this year. The club motto is 'Defend the Island'. For the three games in Melbourne, the fans marched to the stadium chanting march, in reference to a jackjumper being an ant with a vicious sting and the "Ants go marching" song. We are small but don't mess with us.
Tasmania is a great place full of natural wonders, ancient forests, the cleanest air in the world, great food and wine and friendly people. It has a dark history mainly due to the harsh Port Arthur convict settlement. Most of tasmanias towns were built with convict labour. Port Arthur is also the site of a massacre that happened on April 26 1998 where a lone gunman killed 35 people. This is the reason for Australia's current strict guns laws.
Watch the "cime down for air" tourism campaign for Tassie, it's a beautiful place. It's a foodie paradise too. The rivalry (?) Is just natural Aussie "taking the p**" 😅
Hi from Adelaide, I've been to Tassie and New Zealand, the south Island reminded me very much of Tassie, enjoyed them both. If I had to move from Adelaide I'd move to Tassie for sure.
When I was in Tassie many years ago I saw a t-shirt for sale which had an image of a huge Tasmania with a tiny Australia above it with the slogan ''Let's put things in their proper perspective.'' I also had an awkward moment when a local asked where I was from and I answered ''Australia.'' I realised very quickly that I should have said ''the mainland''. I never made that mistake again.
The dark history refers to 2 things and both of them involve Port Arthur, the English convicts were sent there, plus the worst massacre in Australia happened there, which led to gun control.
I love tassie. I went once and drove around the north. Spoke to an American tourist. I asked if she was going to the mainland. She didn't know what i was talking about. She didn't seem to want to know. So i treated her like an American and said nothing.
I like to think of it as like a big brother/little brother relationship, the big brother will rip on his little brother from time to time but at the end of the day we're part of the same family, love each other and we'll defend our little brother to the death.
As a Tasmaniac😅👌, we are confident in ourselves to be able to take the ribbing we get from the mainlanders 🤷🏼♀️, oh, and we do have kangaroos, they are called the Forester kangaroo. 🤗🙋🏼♀️
Sydney has many beaches, including some hidden ones. Clearly, that Taswegian lady has only ever heard of Bondi Beach and is not even sure if it’s in Sydney.
BTW Tasmania does have kangaroos. We have the eastern grey here along with wallaby's and pademelons. We just don't have the big reds. We also don't have koalas or emus. We used to have emus but they were wiped out a long time ago.
We are from South Australia and have lived in Tasmania for 17 years. Paradise on earth where we live. 2 acres of land, creek 5 minutes down the road, river 20 minutes further on, and Bass Strait another 20 minutes. Mountains an hour from us. What's not to love. Not overcrowded either. As a joke the mainland can be referred to as the Big Island. Be jealous people!❤🇦🇺
Love Tasmania and the people. All beautiful. Son worked there for many years and I visited . Great for a holiday too. English and Scottish ancestors started off there. ❤❤ 5:27
Tasmania..Australia’s best kept secret. Anyone that visits love it. I moved to Melbourne many years ago & a friend asked if Tasmanians really considered themselves part of or an actual state of Australia! Um, yes we do!!
Tasmania is absolutely beautiful and one of my favourite places to holiday. If it didn't get so cold in the winter I would love to live there however my arthritis and spinal stenosis wouldn't go very well with freezing temperatures.

Yep, it's just Aussie banter.

Americans go on vacation, Aussies go on Holidays.
4-6 weeks as opposed to 2 weeks (if they’re lucky and allowed to) in the USA.
Also, we don’t hate Tassie at all. We love Tassie. In fact we think it’s fantassietic

I love the time of day you post these.. I’m home from work… unwinding and get to watch you react 😊 👍
Wait just finished.. did she really just say Bondi is the only beach Sydney has? 😂 maybe she shouldn’t comment if she’s never been to Sydney… there’s tons of beaches!
Ryan, the Gold Coast (Queensland), is more like Miami.
I’m a “mainlander”. I love Tassie. Enjoyed a few holidays there.
Gday
i so want to move to tassy
when we got off the boat at devonport and got through the custom check there was ppl handing out tourist info and the 1st thing they say to me was welcome to the mainland lol
cheers
love it!
I.absolutely love tassie it’s beautiful and better with temperatures a lot more than qld my sister lives in east Devonport tassie is gorgeous ❤️❤️❤️
Money.
yeah from tassie in the north west pilbara summer times place to be is tassie winter in wa time
Love Tasmania and the people.
Vic here. He called you lot Tasmaniacs 😱
Look out the mainland have a new nickname for you lol😂
Don’t tell him it’s all friendly between us 🤐💞
Geez, your'e a fast driver! It takes 2.25 hours just to drive from Hobart to Launceston. Tasmania 'the road work state'.

Please excuse me for not being more time specific.😢
That's a new one on me I'm a Queenslander & love Tassie.Really a beautiful place.
We love Tasmania!!!!
Beautiful place.
Bondi is Sydney’s only beach??? You gotta laugh 😂 😂😂
Nobody hates Tassie, it's like the little brother. We poke fun at them for having two heads but that's Aussie tradition. It's beautiful and worth a visit.
Im from Sydney and Love Tasmania lovely people, amazing landscape , the cleanest air and freshest food
Tasmania is about as south as Indiana is north, with both about latitude 40 degrees.
The new River Taxis in LONDON were bought and manufactured in Tasmania.
Yes, it has a huge boat building tradition, even do hand hewn still! 👍
You should watch the film 'Van Diemen's Land' (2009) if you want to see a period time piece of Tasmania back in the day.
I love Tasmanians. In fact we are going there soon for a holiday. This will be our 3rd time.
The dark history refers to 2 things and both of them involve Port Arthur, the English convicts were sent there, plus the worst massacre in Australia happened there, which led to gun control.
Hate is such a strong word. It's brotherly love. Like a "special" sibling :)
True hate is what we save for the government.
Hi from Hobart, Tasmainia.
I love tassie. I went once and drove around the north. Spoke to an American tourist. I asked if she was going to the mainland. She didn't know what i was talking about. She didn't seem to want to know. So i treated her like an American and said nothing.
South Australians serve as a constant reminder that Tasmanians can swim. Anyone who hasn't been to Tassie really should go, you wont be disappointed.
And Surfing - the Westerly Winds drive consistent surf onto the West Coast for those with experience
