    About Me 👩🏽
Hi, I'm Akta :) I'm trying to find more meaning in my relationships, work, and life in general, because I think there's more to it than what society tells us. I try to approach things in a less overwhelming way, because I think there's already so much pressure on us from society.

maybe it's just me but at some point you start hearing the same self help advice and it just seems like self help is just common sense, eat healty, exercise, minimize distractions ect. plus it's hard to trust people who earn millions on other peoples insecuritys and problems. sometimes the best you can do is to take a step back and just live your life without other people telling you how to live and who to be.

Only those truly living them and facing them will have a real perspective of the struggle you battle with. I think that's why I'm drawn to others who show similar signs to what it is I'm going through. But, self-development is really a broad spectrum and you can easily get consumed in content not relevant to your own life, cause it sounds good I guess... not actually dealing with the root issue.

I feel that self improvement has changed within a competition with ourselves as opposed to the building for a healthy mindset

I think people mistake the consumption of self help as a productive thing by itself and use it to procrastinate on taking any real action. People generally know what they need to do. I find reading great fiction and history is often like holding up a mirror to yourself anyway, and a lot more interesting in the process.

Self improvement is a coping mechanism for people who feel (and maybe are) left behind in some aspects of life. Be it advancing in a career or simply finding a partner. Those are nowadays very competitive fields and the bitter truth is that not all of us will be able to fulfill their dreams, so self improvement comes into play in order to keep the hope alive.

@@seyfert8820 We are no magical creatures man. In the end we all are just biological organisms. Happiness and living consciously are very vague concepts. In the end we pursue very similar goals to fulfill our biological needs. Thats why it's so competitive. Everything else is just cope and delusion.

We don't have to improve ourselves in my view. We just have to discover who we truly are ❤
I don't think the answers are to be found online. Reading books is great but the real answers are within us. Sometimes we have to cut the noise, spend some time alone, in nature and simply listen 👂 To our own intuition ❤

What helped me personally was therapy (that focused on Inner Child work). One of the most important books I read was: You're The One You've Been Waiting For - highly recommend it.

This has been something I’ve been wrestling with the past few weeks. I started reading personal development books when I was 13 years old. I’m 28 years old now, and while it still lights me up to a certain degree, I def get stuck on that roller coaster of feeling like my worth is dependent upon my level of productivity and improvement. It’s definitely something I’ve been working to challenge in myself this year. Thank you for this video.

I'm from America and I think we are obsessed with self-improvement. And I think at a certain point, we do wanna make changes: I wanted to stop drinking alcohol, partying, hanging out late, eating junk...and I wanted to start working out, reading, etc but I think balance is key. You don't have to wake up ay 6am and go to the gym; you can just do the things you enjoy and be open to learning new things.

I’ve been feeling this exact same way this week. At some point, self-improvement started becoming a hobby for me, taking me out of living in the moment and putting me in this state of trying to achieve perfection. I recently started forcing myself to get away from all of the self-help stuff and it’s improved my mood so much.

    • @carlorobertoescobar764

That’s not to say that I’ve stopped applying what I’ve learned. I just decided to start minimizing how much I’m consuming and when I do consume it I need to take it and apply it somehow. Otherwise I risk falling into the same trap.

    Hi Akta 👋,
I think many people (including myself) resort to consuming content regarding self improvement and/or personal development due to their curiosity of exploring other paths besides the ones taught by society. As liberating as it feels to follow that curiosity, we also have the responsibility to figure out for ourselves how we’re going to effectively apply those concepts into our lives and make them work for us on our own individual journeys.
Sending you lots of love!!! ❤️❤️❤️🤗

    • @Akta
      @Akta  11 месяцев назад

I really like how many of the thoughts that go through my mind as well. And maybe I've even talked about a bit myself. Either on my channel or with some of my friends. The fact that a lot of this self-help. Type of content is a bit of shiny object syndrome. And then we get the habit of not really expressing our own thoughts or way of doing things.

Self improvement is not bad per se. The thing about this self help era is that many people don't actually get the point of self help. Self help is about purpose, meaning and a pursuit of a greater life.
One of the he cons of self help is that many of the producers knows how addictive their products are, so they keep making courses, seminars and books. The problem with this is that people becomes consumers. This repeats itself and they end up falling into the thirst-dopamine traps that self help vids give us. We end up not making any progress, just tricking our brains to thinking that we did. This is called action faking, and MJ DeMarco has discussed this on his self help book that actually helps.

I know that at least male self improvement used to be “become the best version of yourself to find meaning in life and build a good life for your family” but now it’s all about becoming better so you can get laid more. which is pretty lame

People are more insecure now. In the past, men usually earned money to support their families. That is not the case anymore. Both men and women have to have jobs to make a decent living. Immigration to western countries has also increased drastically. As a result, competition for securing jobs especially in corporations has increased a lot. Jobs are no longer secure and so people have to constantly learn and grow to be marketable. People have to work much harder to meet the basic necessities of life without getting into debt and so the stress level has increased. Insecurity and stress is forcing people to look for answers.
