AMEN! In this age of Grace, salvation comes through Jesus alone!
While my friends were out partying on Friday and Saturday I was at home listening and being encouraged to live the Christian life by these guys. I am so thankful to them for being willing to serve God and use their talents to represent Him.
Me too. I was alone in my own world because I listened to Christian Rock/Metal.
I got the chills - been so long - wow. Used to go to church (Sanctuary) in LA with these guys when they started out - rock on!
God I grew up on Christian Rock! It was all I was allowed to listen to and was thankful the option. My dad was a dj at a christian station and hosted a "heavenly rock show" lol..yeah I know I know...but because of that, when they came to San Antonio Texas, they actually came to my house to chill and took showers and ate before their show. I was maybe 13 years old. I don't think I spoke a word the whole time. I was awestruck. I've gone and come back to my walk with God and it's good to see they are still out there. Along with Bloodgood and Stryper. So Yeah..thought I would share that. :)
From 1984 to 1994, I was a volunteer waiter at Saturday Night Light, and we had about 3 dozen “Underground” Christian Rock Bands over the years, as Guest Bands. None of them were as well known as Barren Cross, Stryper, or Petra, but they were all very good. Our House Band, The Nightlight Band, was also very good too!
Over the years, the bands we had on stage included: Sacred Fire, The David Coate Group, His Band, Damascus, and The Mission. They were all traditional Christian Rock, except for The Mission, and were all very good.
I remember at one concert, around 1985, someone walked up to David Coate after the concert to say that “one of their songs sounded like a “Yes” song”! Before the Concert, after working to set up the place, we had either a late lunch or early dinner at 5:30PM. Then after the Concert we would go out to an all-night Diner at around 2AM.
It was really great to get to know the Band members personally. On one occasion, we were with the Band “Sacred Fire” in a Diner, and the lead singer was told that his car’s lights were on. Well, when he stood up, all the strangers looked at him with some fear. He had a long pony tail down to his waist! But he just went outside to turn off his car’s lights. I also remember Larry Lee, drummer for David Coate and the funny way he got his message across while delivering his serious testimony.
At another early-morning diner/breakfast, one of our other volunteers was celebrating his wife’s birthday. Some stranger at another table (one of 2 people) said something derogatory. Our volunteer just politely asked him to “stop” and he did. Later, I saw the fearful look on his face when the guy who told him to “stop” got up to leave --- with me and about thirty (30) other people! I was going to tell him: “Hey, we are Christians!”, but then I just left with the others. He sure looked pretty scared!
I was allowed to tape many of the concerts. The problem was (or is) in 1985, I never thought that cassette tapes would one day be obsolete!
I was looking for “Sacred Fire” on RUclips, but the Christian one is not there.
Now I am 60 years old, but I still have many fine memories of those concerts. I am just sad that millions of people never had a chance to hear those bands on the radio.
I remember a song by Whiteheart called “King George”. One of the lines was:
“If we say His Name, if our message gets too strong, the Ra-di-o will never play this song”.
So sad and so true.
Well, up in Heaven, there will be awesome concerts by bands that you never heard of!
You go kiddo!
wish i had grown up that way! exellent stuff
I love these stories, MAN it is AWESOME!!
You are speaking right to me! I was a Christian Rock DJ during this time, never met any of my favs, but WHAT AN ERA for Christian Rock!!! Best time of my life!!
One of best singers frontman ever they had so much energy and crowd sway so loud so powerful so godly 1000 people in a church had there lids blown they haven't changed one bit eat that Satan
DUUUDE!! Mikes voice is STILL awesome. He seems to hit the notes with the same ease and intensity as he did back in the day! He kicks the whole concert here but really delivers on "Two thousand years". It was always a dream of mine to play in a band with a singer like him. Actually, to be able to have him in my band.
Always been one of my favorites! ROCK FOR THE KING!
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS !!! Another prayer answered...will always be my favorite..I have ALL their CD's...Halllelujah
I've been a fan of BC since `88. All this time I never new they did a song (Bigotry Man) that dealt with sin of racism. Much love and respect to them!

Hung out with these guys back when they played Detroit back in the 80's. My old drummer used to be their drum roadie. Good memories.
Barren Cross,White Cross,Styper,Blood Good just to name a few are all so awesome. I love Christian rock and metal. And I can't forget Petra of course.
Is Barron Cross still together…? They were my favourite in the 80’s and 90’s. I have been getting back to my old music..👍🏽❤️
You might want to look for the new name.... Gale Force

BC what a band, so many memories of listening to them over 30 years, just wish I could have seen them in Australia! Should have been much bigger and promoted properly to get the wonderful message out to give your life to Jesus!
Great footage of a solid set by these 4 guys. Definitely ended the concert with a powerful number.
BC,along with Rez Band,Barnabas,
Saint were the 1st Christian sounds that crossed my path in early '80s. ✌
...and the high energy too!
I have barren crosses albums, been a fan since the 80's
I didn't know they was still around they still sound great.
So glad I was able to see the Atomic Arena tour at The Quarry northern Phoenix. Great memories.
Fantastic! Living in Brazil and love Your work. God Bless
Vielen Dank, ich liebe Christian Metal
YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME
I HAVE TOTALLY MISSED THIS WONDERFUL MUSIC!!
God Bless You all!!
Mike Lee genial
In my opinion I still say that Mike Lee is the still the best hard rock vocalists in christian hard rock.So powerful and deep that he hits every note perfect.Just because stryper was the biggest christian band thanks to thier California connections doesn't mean they were the best musicians in christian music.I could name over 10 bands in christian metal that were better singers and musicians and didn't sound cheesy.
Great. Band. Jamming
yes yes yes ! about time !

still AWESOME to hear Mike has not lost too much on his vocals after 30 years. Great music and still looks like they can hold their own
His solo stuff is really good as well. Different from BC, but still good.
This is so great, Mikes vocals is awesome!! I remember the first album With their white and blue outfits hehe, great album. My favourite is Rattle Your cage
Mine too!
Thanks for the tip. I corrected it.
Vielen Dank, mega cool , i love Christian Metal
I loved "State of Control". Wore out the cassette. As a Christian and a Maiden fan, this was right up my alley. Never got to see them and I have not listened to any of their other stuff. This was a fantastic concert. The band is great and Mike's vocals especially are quite impressive.
Before I get 'flamed' for that comment, I'd just like to say that it's great to see them all back together again! I just hope that they can capture the magic that they once had. This is a good video, but I'd like to see a GREAT video with their old sound. Everyone's on board except for Mike. You hear the old Mike Lee here and there, but I want to hear it EVERYWHERE!! Forget the weird "Michael Drive" bit, Mike. Get back to your METAL roots!!!!
Your the Best Mike Tho!!!
Thanks for the tip
It's really cool how they did a song from the Demos. 🤘🤘🤘
Amazing band! I cant recall but I guess It was in 1988 when I heard them the first time... Atomic Arena
me, too!!!
I'm glad to hear Mike Lee (Drive) share about Idol's in his life and his need of repentance...maybe this is some of you watching right now. I hope you will fully commit to the Lordship of Christ if you haven't...his message begins @ the 53:22 mark. God bless
Dying days is there best my opnion
Ray you are ripping it buddy!
I met the singer at a Christian Church in Magalia California
Their first album was so badass and still is
esse show é muito massa , God bless !
classica banda e velhos homens crianças,Deus os abençõe
BARREN CROSS IS BACK...GLORY TO GOD!
WOW Mike Lee still kickin ass! I couldnt be more impressed by him, and the whole band
Jim LaVerde on bass; had he been in a 'secular' band, wouldve surely been recognized of one of metal's best bassists ever. Have a listen to 'In the Eye of the Fire' 1987 Atomic Arena album.. dude is fire
Shout out from San Diego ca we need Baron cross in San Diego rock on you guys sound great can't believe I missed you in 2012 dang been 6 years already we're was you hiding Christian metal rising again o yeah !!!!!
RAD!
I haven't heard barren cross for a long time, and this is not what I remember. The hard thrash stuff was great. I guess everyone has to slow down. But they're still great.
Where chocolate flows like water.
Thank you soo much for sharing. It is awesome to see them again. Are they going to make this into a DVD?
Mike Lee canta e toca muito. Sensacional!!!
Mi primer cassette fue el Atomic arena y rock for the king
The cool part about Stryper is that they don't preach so much!!!They just happen to be metal inspired musicians that happen to be Christian.Which is why they did an album of covers including "heaven and hell" and other songs .So much props to the Stryper lineup👍
They sound great! I've missed these guys. That new song is killer!! I hope hope HOPE for a new album in the future. Anyway, I know it's been a long time since they played any of these songs and perhaps that's why - is it just me or was Ray hitting some wrong notes in his solos? Thank you so much for uploading this concert - it was a real treat for me to watch it!
They are playing in OHIO in BMI Event Center on Labor Day 2022
Mike lee is killer!
Thanks for sharing this: it was a pleasure to watch. May I add that I'm missing ' Cultic Regimes' (it got played after 'Deadlock') in the track list?
I like all three kinds of Music: HeavY, GospeL, & MetaL!
Unfortunately they did not play, Rock for the King, Imaginary music and King of Kings
ruclips.net/video/gSifjFIBWn0/видео.htmlsi=uz-cXFuAJzGBZxAf
LMAO..at 1:07:48. Nice job, Jim.
theres actually 2 new songs
V4EKKRINH4RT, you're being mean. But the funny thing is, you're right. I'm glad this concert is up here though. It's neat to see.
Cool songs not too technical in my opinion but then again it was their genre.I'm not Christian nor even religious in any manner. But some songs dis remind me of the 80's so as far as nostalgia yeah I dug it.Then again I came from listening to Kansas ,ozzy,Sabbath, maiden, genesis, yes, pretty much all the prog lineups of the time even unknown prog bands like happy the man etc. Some songs from barren were ok Stryper also really had some catchy songs. But as I've grown more mature and sophisticated I'm thankful for lineups like dream theater alter bridge and the like a of them.Simply because the musical language dream theater speaks and the lyrics are thought provoking.Alter bridge also very inspiring musically. Not to say that any if the other prog lineups today aren't .But then again there are so many to even list!!!😂👍
A FACE IN THE DARK
The talent in Barren Cross was always Mike and Jim. But I still love Ray as a great rhythm metal player and he can handle the solos he was asked to play. Is he Oz Fox or Rex Carrol? No. I still think Barren Cross is the best metal band that also happens to be comprised of Christians.
The concert is very convicting.
