    Your experience in Georgia is like my times on the lower Rio Grande, at Pilar, and White Rock Canyon, minus the awesome Georgia cabin. Otters, flood, season-stretcher, no fish on the line; I get it. Upstream of Pilar, no problem, just gotta drive and hike, and well, two hours from home is more than I can hack, need shelter or it is just a hard push from sun up to sun down, or it is the heat of summer, when I really should be up in the mountains where it is not a million degrees. Plus, the fly fishing folks told me about the river otters, and wish I didn't know that trout are thought to find their way into the bellies of Northern Pike, which are not found in New Mexico's mountain streams. Corn cans, killer-hooks with barbs on the point and shank all tied-up in the willows, and debris-flows that include fallen trees and empty sun-bleached aluminum cans of macro brews. I actually appreciate the bait fishers, minus the trash, but, the word-of-mouth of otters crushed my spirit. Trout park. But, a trout park with clear evidence of a recent, scary-looking-flood.
    But, you guys did really well when you visited the better part of the Rio Grande gorge. I'm content being defeated, on the lower(ish) Rio Grande, casting dry flies in February. But, I'd be stoked doing a serious grind in Georgia, just not here at home. Here, I shamelessly make up for my lack of nymph and streamer abilities by going to a smaller streams, where there are too many snags below the surface to seriously nymph, at least when the water temp is up.

    December and January are probably the two worst months to fish the southern Appalachians. The fact that you were able to catch some fish shows your angling skills. While I can certainly understand the frustration it the made you a better fisherman.

      I had a hunch what I was getting myself into.. but getting out there and grinding was so much better than sitting on my hands or fishing familiar waters! I love the challenge!

    As I already have said commenting on your videos.... Caught my first trout ever in north Georgia at a small lake called Dockery lake. 30 years ago but I remember it well. I keep watching hoping you'll show up there 😂 man that little lake was an important party of my childhood, even though I only lived in Georgia for a couple years. Learned to fish, first camping trip, learned to canoe, start a fire, watching my dad cast his fly rod and becoming obsessed... Damn, Memories.

    Your comments at the beginning, remarking that you had never been south of Memphis, reminded me of something an instructor at Keesler AFB, Mississippi said in class one day, many moons ago; he said that anyone born north of I-10 was a yankee...Keesler is about 5 miles south of that road.

      I went to tech school at Keeler. Was training to be an air traffic controller there on 9/11/2001... crazy time. I liked Biloxi though. Actually lived there when I was a little kid too. My dad was an instructor there. Haven't been back since Katrina though.

      @@FLYALLSZN If you come back, try some of the delayed harvest areas. Stock heavily beginning in November and its is all C&R until May. My favorite is the Chattooga, very wild! Lower part is DH, upper should hold some wild trout in winter. Much of what you fished has been absolutely hammered hard since 2020 and covid. After my first experience with that crap, I just quit fishing here and waited until my trips to Colorado and Wyoming. (Glad that I have that option.) Your catches are a testament to your prowess; great job!!

    Well all of the places that you went to are stocked seasonally from March through September. They get fished out by locals as you could tell afterwards. There are a couple of good freestones with 16-20” fish and the Toccoa Tailwaters & Chattahoochee Tailwaters have big browns.

    Hate ya had a bad trip there to noontootla. My favorite stream around doesn’t get fished to much because of the one trout limit over 16 inches, just went the other day and caught a bunch, and those cars are most likely hikers, there’s a big waterfall trail there

    • @delandruff1658
      @delandruff1658 2 года назад +1

      Also, those bigger rivers like coopers and such unless you walk a few miles up river from the roads they’re all stockers so during the winter their ain’t no fish.

      Noontootla is over fished. Also that limit is not adhered to 1) because naming of wild streams attracts FAR TOO MANY people. Noontootla used to be my favorite since it was easier to access but not terribly pressured. Now it's over fished and over harvested since everyone kept naming it. not to mention I think they've done away with the one fish limit. It's now still supposed to be 16 inches but it's up to 8 per day per the only sign of regulations posted on the the stream. Which leads me to 2) DNR doesn't patrol. So people bag whatever they want. Assuming you adhere to proper ethics doesn't mean the thousands of people o that see this on social media will. This is why I will never name a wild stream. Not only are places named but then told exactly how to get to. This is why our streams are shells of what they were even 5 years ago. Keep that info to yourself. If people know just by the looks then so be it. They been there. But to just hand out info like this is reckless. Should be ashamed.

I think it's a great little fly rod. Sure is a lot of 💩 talking online about them suddenly though. I feel like they somehow pissed off a few of the fly fishing (I hate to say it).... influencers. One of the better under $200 fly rods I've had for sure.

    Gotta tell ya. You drove past way more trout trying to get to my home state where trout fishing is as you found out a GRIND. Glad to see it's not only me. Truth be told you just can't put lipstick on a pig. Trout in GA are usually all stockers that don't make it through the heat in summer and the corn fishing crowd. I applaud you for trying but it is what it is. Way overfished. Way overhyped. Best to go north and or west. Love the Colorado trips. As you can see us GA folk don't have that kind of fishery.

    • @FLYALLSZN
      @FLYALLSZN  2 года назад +2

      The goal of the trip was to see new country! Overhyped is definitely what you see on IG and YT (but I am fairly certain the GA super stockers are coming from private water) BUT GA was beautiful beyond belief and I do not regret a single cast!

    • @randyward6287

      @@FLYALLSZN You are right on my man. All those big pigs you see caught on YT are from private water and the fish are fed with pellet feeders. You pay a guide to walk you to a hole and instantly catch a huge pig. This is not sport to me and I don't think you would approve either. It's all about making a quick few hundred bucks. Love your content because it's the real deal.
