A lot of people hate on this album, but for me it just shows another side of KJ and yet another style of music they have total mastery over. The play between the bass, drum and guitar parts is just superb. 5*
RuudVanPistolrooy i think it's a brilliant album, i don't get why people seem to hate it. I understand that a bit towards Outside The Gate, but not this one
@samadriel I think it came because they were originally very "punkish" and this album is total "80's pop" sound. As it is, it's still one of my fav KJ albums ever. Broad spectrum? No kidding, Jaz and crew have gone through a huge shift of styles, usually keeping with the times but maintaining their unique sound. Killing joke is awesome.
Nice song! I have most of Brighter Than A Thousand Suns, but not this track. Interesting changes. I can really see where Faith No More were influenced by Killing Joke with this song.
They were up against bands like U2 and Simple Minds with their iconic tracks like Wire and Belfast Child. But KJ had the harder heavier sound which won many people over including myself and discovered KJ were way ahead of any other band and way way more influential to other bands like Metallica, Nirvana, Godflesh Jane's Addiction the list goes on
yeah this is Killing Joke killing funk. i musta played this song more than any other on the cd i have of this album, except maybe Exiles. Such awesome bass and drums - with Geordie riding over it all. Yes the sound is too polished and too clean (no surprises for the mid 80s!) but it just keeps driving and driving relentlessly and in the day it blew me away. and today too. I kinda wish they had this rhythmic clarity, drive and melody more often but with more of "Extremities" venom...

Damn! I don't have this track as I only have the original vinyl album, which I've never rated to be honest. If this track had been on there I would certainly have rated higher. Brilliant!
@878commando Yeah, I guess people weren't expecting this kind of sound after, say, 'Turn to Red', 'Land of Milk and Honey', etc etc. It was actually my first KJ album, so I didn't have that problem, heh. BTW folks, Absolute Dissent is pretty awesome!
I like Killing Joke, I prob like their pre-nighttime era better but this song is pretty catchy and upbeat. Almost reminds me of a game called Dracula X from the PC-Engine.
Awesome tune and best version! You should hear the version on the 2007 remaster... it's been butchered down to 4 minutes and it really isn't as good...
It wasn't butchered, that's how long the original song was before it got extended and chopped up for this remix (which the band didn't want). Not that this version is that bad, but it's a pop remix and not the intended song. The original 4 min version finally got released on the 'Restored mixes' version of Brighter Than A Thousands Suns and sounds brilliant.
+Darren Bradford It was on the old CD copies of Brighter Than A Thousand Suns.......why they shortened it down, I don't know. It feels like an act of heresy to do such a thing.
The 2007 remix was what the band originally wanted for the album; the 1986 version was remixed to make it more poppy on the record label's instructions.
@@paulbogan3400 Exactly. This was the 'remix' that was originally released only on cassette (I think) and the old CD. It isn't the version the band wanted, this isn't how the song was recorded and played. This one sounds more like a remix for a 12" single that never happened.
yeah dude my english teacher had this and said after one listen to it, he gave it away. i was like WHAT??? this album is the shit! too bad this song wasnt on the LP version. its not on my copy i have. i have it on my pod however. Wintergardens also is not on it. instead Goodbye to the Village is. i think i got the 87 Spanish release....oh well. i know the UK release didnt have Victory as well.....his favorite by KJ is Fire Dances
The way the guitar and bass interact is quite possibly the best I've ever heard.

I loved "chessboards" in that surfing movie whose name escapes me, I recall the super hot hawaiian chick in it though as I was 17 at the time
@@michaelkennedy5126 North Shore, with Nia Peeples :)
Probably my fav album of theirs tbh.
It's easily my favourite from KJ
That Bass is just killer 🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸
This was my older brothers favorite album in the 80's.
This is an awesome version. Really shows how good the late Paul Raven was on bass. RIP..
Totally agree. This was their best lineup. Jaz, Geordie, and the two Pauls.
On of the best bass player in punk and beyond.

4:15 This is so smooth
For me this is finally a true Killing Joke album!
This has a very funky Vibe just shows how talented musician s They Are.
Bass playing on this exceptional!! R.I.P. PR
The 🔊 is killer on this track. This is quintessentiall 80's rock. Geordie is an underated 🎸 player ! Life is a Killing Joke !
Dayum that line be funky

This is definitely not on the vinyl edition. Maybe a bonus track?
It was 1 of 3 bonus tracks on the CD release
sure this and nightime LP
With this bass set it's remind me "INXS".Awesome!
C'est l'inverse : Inxs est un pâle écho de Killing Joke...
Sans offense.
...it's when those strings come in. Heart melting!

Haha, I didn't know the album had a bad rep... Yeah, I think it's great that KJ are THAT good at such a broad spectrum of stuff.
Bad rep? I think Brighter is a very good album (not as Night Time, but still...)
I have the damn record, and Victory wasn't included when it was released, I discovered this song when the CompacDisk came
Across the sand under a crescent moon
In celebration of our fears
And rumours circulating in the street
The candle burns the world awaitsWe ask is this some kind of victory?
Where is the dream, where is the sanity? As crying echoes down the corridors
The child comes running to his mother's arms
And all the things I hold so dear to me
I love my wife, I love my familyRaise up your heads and voices
The promise of beyond
With courage… Raise up your heads and voices
The promise of beyond
With courage face the moment
Remember who you are!A frightened people losing dignity
The shadow of an island in their minds
While fools are bent on making history
With nothing gained, is this our destiny?

Amazing song. Pretty much perfect.
Arguably the best post-punk album ever made. Yes, it's as good as Unknown Pleasures.
Hands down, no contest, top all time best KJ album. Everything else after this sounds too industrial metal.
rip Raven i hope i make it to the show
This is what punching a bass in the face sounds like. Good job Paul.
Oh Yeah Sama. It' s toooo good! Victory deserved the Tube.

Bowie style
Why fools are bent on Making history...
This is the only BTATS song of which I prefer the original Julian mix. Love the beginning bit which is sadly not in the Chris Kimsey version.
This track was not on the vinyl version of the album.

great Album but does not have staying power ... Revelations still rattles me every time I play ...

CD bonus track.
Weird mix. I think I'd like it better if I didn't know the original so well.
Thank god this track isn't on the Vinyl version of the LP. Easily the worst (only bad) KJ track of all time
