Put a thin layer of silicone around the electronic connections and servos they will last a bit longer when they get wet, put some foam in there too, add some fiberglass to the lower hull after every battle, cheap and strong...wow that looks like a lot of fun though...
One has to wonder how many ships wooden and steel plus artillery from centuries of war are in the big pond. I mean really. That was the best question you could salvo out there?
They are steel, so they don't really cause environmental damage, as opposed to lead used by hunters or recreational shooters. Real warships have been sunk just to create artificial reefs
One of my friends at school used to tell me he had a video (as in a VHS, this was 1996) of some massed RC battle with tanks, aircraft and ships - including to-scale aircraft carriers launching whole squadrons. But he might have just been making it up XD
Additional ideas to try out: 1. Ship Armor - secretly line the inside of the hull with a thin layer of Kevlar backed by thin titanium plates. 2. Ship Flamethrower Gun Battery. 3. Explosive Incendiary BBs. 4. Helicopter Pad for Drone Attack Chopper armed with those firecracker tubes that shoot out multiple sparking projectiles. 5. Ship to Ship Missile Battery (firecracker tubes as above). 6. Ship Laser Gun Battery (Aren't there laser devices that can set flammable materials on fire if they're kept focused on the same spot?). 7. Helicopter Drone armed with a large magnifying lens (only on sunny days). 8. Ship Defensive Missile Battery (shoot down drones with skyward aimed firecracker tubes). 9. @Steve Rogers These clubs work to a set of rules to keep the battling safe, practical, realistic & sensible. ALL of your ideas break at least one of these.
When I was in highschool in 2007 I talked to my cousins (who build real planes for a living and RC's as a hobby) what it would take for me to build a battleship with working armaments so i could have battles with someone if i could get the idea for fleet battles to gain traction. They said not much but Goodluck finding people who would want to participate. I know this video is 9years old but it's cool to see i wasn't alone in my thought process to see this become a reality. Super cool to watch 😁
As hobbies go, this looks pretty cool. I wounder though: is balsa wood a rule that you have to make your ships hull out of? Because I can think of lots of sturdier materials. I guess maybe it's so the guns can actually sink a ship?
My one brother had a model of an aircraft carrier that is until me and my other brother put a couple of M80's in it. Lit them and set sail caught a picture of it just as it blew up. This sounds really cool!
Two things I always wondered about these boats. How do the guns work and how do they keep the electronics dry? I think I got an answer the 2nd one. They don't. You get to much water and things quit working.
Many many years ago as a younger person spreckles lake Golden Gate park San Francisco On the weekends did this type of activity which was really cool also there was a boathouse where people kept their Model sailboats
I bet this is waymore fun then playing video games ... actually heading out to a lake with your friends, tinkering around RC servos etc you learn stuff about electronics, model building, and most of all have real fun.... it would be even more fun if you had artificial islands or some sort of obstacles where ships could take cover or make it more tactics based then spray and pray... maybe a timer based firing mechanism to simulate real "loading" maybe a long range cannon type that could fire from distance etc... interesting hobby.

Noone has ever been born with technical know-how, including these guys. It is something they all had to get for themselves, as everyone can. Just read a few hobby magazines, borrow a few books, find a few people to talk to, etc, and it will come. But the biggest thing is just get some balsa wood, a sharp knife & some glue and start playing around, and expand from there.
unless its a limit on how much cubic\minute they can be, then you just got to make more holes than the pump can handle. waterproofing controls and fire mechanism would though be a good anyway unless you like to buy shit-tons of em.
Greg, they are clearly not here since the servos died from water. and waterproof and water-resistant are 2 different things, but then... think it's more a cost vs use situation, simple servos can handle some water from time to time if then propperly dried after and costs 15 times less than waterproof ones, and you also have a possebility that someone shots the servo and in that situation you don't want a expensive one....
Børre Børresen , well I have 5 of these ships , all of them run every month , fight get sunk , sink others. Radio receivers are upto 10 years old and counting.
