A month late, but I would like to offer my take on the situation. The problem with McDonald’s fries, or the ones around where I live anyway, is that they’re all really inconsistent. Sometimes they’re soggy, sometimes hard, sometimes too much or too little salt, and sometimes even just straight up bland. Often times they aren’t even hot. The “perfect” mcdonald fries should be a bright gold yellow color, hot, and just the right amount of salt on them.
The thing about fries at most fast food places is they fry them and then the fries sit under a heating lamp until they're needed generally thinner fries are better when the fries are freshly fried while thicker fries stay good for longer

Fun fact: every meal taste different in different countries (i know from experience) meaning that every fries taste different depending where you live witch means that Macdonald's french fries can be good AND bar luckily i live in a state with good French fries.

as an Australian McDonald's it terrible when compared to the legendary charcoal chicken actually thick, crisp and hot with actual flavour because of the use of chicken salt
They are the benchmark fry for me. If this were a SABCDFL tierlist with S at the top, the are mid-C. Once they've cooled down, they are low-L. Burger King has slightly better burgers than McDonald's (not like that's hard), but worse everything-else. Dairy Queen is literally "Burger King, but better". Wendy's is where you go to get good fries and vanilla ice cream. Arby's has good roast beef sandwiches, and a better shamrock shake. Subway is where you go for a sub sandwich, anywhere else is heresy.
I was a Wendy’s guy myself. During high school I used to go there after school for a snack and would always get a large fry and a coke. If I hadn’t eaten lunch that day I’d make it a whole meal with a 10 piece nugget. And then recently they had to go and mess with their fries (I think because they dissed McDonald’s fries on Twitter and had to follow through on their end) and now they’re shit. They used to be nice and firm but not rock solid, with just the right amount of salt; and now they’re simultaneously crunchy but also soft as hell (flop around like limp noodles too) and way too salty. Also, been to Five Guys, I don’t get the hype. Their food is ok at best and while you do get a ton of fries I still don’t think it’s worth what they charge (I might reconsider if I could taste something other than grease when I bite into their burgers).

As a Canadian, MCDonalds fries here are very yummy. They are not soggy and not too salty. The fries have the right amount of salt and squish.
