list of varied games i like for those with this problem: hollow knight - really good metroidvania factorio - amazing factory building sandbox game, but maybe avoid this one if you want to do anything else for the next 48 hours portal 2 - favorite game of all time, amazing puzzles metro exodus - if your pc can run it, it's really good pretty much any doom game - not the deepest of experiences, but very fun and difficult a hat in time - great mario-64 like with a surprising amount of content rimworld - colony building game, enough mods to make a second game stardew valley - only farming game I've ever enjoyed dishonored - great stealth/story fps, cool choices, second one if you like it enough prey (2017) - similar to dishonored, by the same people, but more of a spiritual successor to: bioshock - 1 and 2, recommend the originals rather than the remasters if you can get them to run on your computer. all time classic terraria - pretty well-known 2d sandbox game, lots of bossfights and another game with tons of mods enter the gungeon - funny top-down twinstick shooter roguelike. even if you don't know what some of those words mean, still great game outer wilds - not to be confused with the outer worlds. cannot recommend this enough. story driven roguelike. DO NOT SPOIL YOURSELF. valheim - terraria but 3d and viking themed. also really good. octodad: dadliest catch - hilarious rage-game. there is no reason this has such a low metacritic score, it's a great game. project zomboid - tough-as-nails zombie apocalypses survival game with permadeath. vessel - difficult indie 2d puzzle game. very thematic, might require some looking-up. control - cool 3rd person shooter with a bizarre story and cool brutalist architecture, if that's your thing. made by the people who made alan wake. dead space - all time classic, really scary if it's your first time playing. slightly less scary once you get a certain weapon. goat simulator - sadly somewhat short on content, but still entertaining to play around with for a while. slime rancher - ok maybe i lied about stardew valley. much more chill than some other games on this list. stanley parable - funny story-driven game about a guy in an office singularity - relatively little-known linear fps that still holds up today. also a little bit scary. spelunky - one of the few "rage games" i like. platformer roguelike the swapper - difficult 2d puzzle game with a dark story and some pretty cool graphics. deus ex: human revolution - good story driven semi-linear rpg fps game. not *too* groundbreaking, but still fun. dark souls series - reaaally hard if you don't know what you're doing, but you figure things out eventually. interesting story, mechanics, and really good combat. titanfall 2 - movement shooter to end all movement shooters. if you're having server problems, look into the northstar client- community hosted servers ultrakill - doom with a retro 3d style. nuff said. and that's it, I've gone through almost all the major games in my steam library. hope this helps
What about: Get To The Orange Door - an alternate version of Ultrakill Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator - RPG type game but with the style of Papers Please as in, you buy/sell organs to the highest bidder while also evading the cops Super Hot - you probably know about it, time moves when you move and you have to kill everyone litteraly any Tetris game - 'cause, y'know, tetris Twelve Minutes - an RPG groundhog day mystery game where you have to find out how to save your wife and yourself from a cop who's looking into a murder. (best desc i could think of) Unpacking - a calm game where you unpack and explore life in a pixel art style while also seeing what happends to you as you go along. Exo One - a calm space game where you try to get to the light in the distance while also figuring out what happend to you, it's great to pass the time and has a timer at the end to show you how long it took to beat the game. (i recomend) Superliminal - a scycadelic type of game (that takes place in a dream) it's kinda like portal, but without the portals. Backbone - an RPG, pixel art, 2-d, mystery. about a raccoon detective that wants to figure out a suspected cheating husband only to see that the raccoon was in way over his head. (the first chapter is great, but it lost me farther in.) cluster truck - You climb on trucks to get to the end of levels you unlock gadgets the more you play and the more style points if you do tricks Astroneer - an open world space explorer where you have to colonize and discover the secrets of the stars Fire Watch - A RPG mystery game where you are a ranger stationed in a fire watch tower. Gang Beasts - a fun game to play with friends. Totally Acurate Battle Simulator - a goofy sim where you can battle your friends or take part against challenging enemies. Sea Of Thieves - a pirate themed open world adventure with multiplayer but watch out, not everyone is friendly. Any Hitman game - Hitman is a game where you are tasked to kill specific individuals however you like, It's all up to you, there's many ways to kill. My Friend Pedro - a 2-d side scroller where you shoot everyone with style along with your banana friend who helps you with your adventure.
The biggest reason I am disappointed with modern gaming is the “Ship now finish later” mentality. The idea that a corporate giant because of deadlines and budgets, will ship an unfinished terrible project.
That isnt the only problem They also just go for graphics wich is dumb and also ‘realistic’ physics Almost Any game that was made before 2015 Is just better
I feel like the whole battle pass system has made games feel like a job to play now. It feels like your forced to play the game or else you will lose the cool stuff nobody will be able to get after a set time.
Exactly! There's really nothing to actually work towards that you can constantly get closer to at any given time. Instead, you literally have no objectives, just play the game for 300 hours and get cool skin. Its so fucking lame
Stop playing shitty games then. You talk as if that’s a common issue lol. Yeah no shit gaming isn’t fun if you never step out of your confort zone and keep playing braindead online multiplayer games.
@@smtandearthboundsuck8400 thing is people like multi-player games. But it sucks for those that like it because companies tend to only make them to make even more profit through things like microtransactions nowadays. But multi-player games even with those things can still be fun to play.
I think the reason people don't enjoy games it's because modern games feel like jobs, absurd amount of missions without any meaning for the game experience, boring farming mechanics, empty open worlds, plain storytelling idk i really enjoy more classic games this days they are more focused in what they want to deliver (sorry for bad English)
The "absurd amount of missions" is really true. I buyed the battle pass of Fortnite a few days because of spider man, now feels more like a job than playing a game for fun... Doing boring missions all the day to not lose XP

This is why a lot of my long story driven games I’ve been procrastinating and instead just playing things I can jump into immediately like Geometry Dash, Cluster Truck and CSGO Surf
I stopped heavily gaming early last year. Took some time to myself. And found out I was never actually captivated by games, but their story. Which is why I became a writer
Variety literally is the spice of life. Many of those who say games arent fun anymore from what i saw only played one game (usually mc or cod or one of the popular shooters). Taking breaks and trying new things are definitely a couple of the best ways to enjoy games again, another good stryxo video 🥃
@VOID Interactive i felt that way a few years ago when i only played csgo but then i played half life and afterward i loved games more than ever Half life would then lead me to play more singleplayer games is what i mean
I’ve been a gamer for my entire life (19 years) and I’ve hated learning how video games work because it ruins the magic of video games. Ignorance is bliss and I miss being ignorant
i used to think that i could visit my home in need for speed if i cross what's beyond the other side as a kid. Still, i enjoy learning about how games work as a hobby
Personally it makes it much more enjoyable, knowing how much time the devs put in it so we can be as creative as we want , we’re too spoiled now a days, these high end games aren’t easy to make and even the little details should be appreciated
I feel like they’re becoming really predictable for me at least, I could play any game nowadays and predict legit 90% of story and gameplay I just wanna get a brand new game get into it and get blown away from the fact that I can’t tell what’s gon be next
@@maadlad47 I definitely agree w you there, I wish games had more originality to them, like games will come out now a days & I’m like oh another one of these.. that’s why I loved NieR automata and both the top games Heart Machine have made (hyper light drifter & Solar Ash) so incredibly unique and fun
Imagine eating exclusively from one fast food chain, wondering why you're finding the culinary experience repetitive and feeling physically unwell, than blaming the concept of food itself
That’s because you yourself are growing old. As you grow up you don’t do the same things. Notice how your dad doesn’t sit on his ass gaming all day? That’s because he gre- nvm tf am I talking about
The pandemic definitely hit us hard. But that also comes with growing up. Lately it feels like everything is going too fast. And I don't have much time left before I'm off to college.
This is why I always have said that everything can be enjoyed, but IN MODERATION. Playing only an hour or two a day or a few days a week will make the time you get to play more meaningful. If you do what you love too much, you'll start to hate it and that's never a fun realization
True, as a teenager i was addicted to videogames especially when Minecraft came out. I had no life, plus I wanted videogames to fullfill the void I had within me to no avail, after going through many life crisis' I developed a hatred towards videogames and stopped playing all together then I found God(Jesus), and he filled that void and changed my life for the good, healed my anxiety and depression and loneliness and gave me purpose and identity and self worth, things I was really lacking in my life. Many years later I can now play videogames once in a while and enjoy them with friends and family without the need to depend on them emotionally. Idk why I'm sharing this but maybe there's someone who relates.
I disagree. Modern video games just don’t have the longevity that older games did. I could play games on the Wii/Xbox 360 for hours on end, such as Madden, 2k, CoD, MC, etc Nowadays, there is no physical way for me to have fun in any FPS game for longer than an hour-and during that period, I’m really not having too much fun, other than banter with friends. Sports games are absolutely atrocious now, as the graphics quality seems to have replaced the need for gameplay in the eyes of devs. There is no longer a game where I enjoy playing it, in which I’m improving my skills and having it show in a concrete fashion; SBMM completely ruined this. It now feels like you are performing exactly the same in each game, even if you are improving; being matched with others who are improving at the exact same rate is absolutely idiotic. The entire point of getting better is that you will be able to outperform people who you previously struggled against, and you will consequently gain a sense of accomplishment from having done so. Modern games seem to completely negate this major element, which makes them feel more dull and harder to play for extended periods of time.
That's facts, I've pretty much always been that way because of how my parents raised me and I'm so thankful for it. Occasionally I'll go all out and play for like 4 hours, but I feel more fulfilled actually being productive so now when I do game it's like a reward for all the hardwork I've done all week
i caca: just try to always remember that games are meant to be fun. People will be setting aside time of their day to play your games in order to relax, decompress, etc (depending on the game’s genre). One piece of advice I can offer is that you don’t want to make side-missions for the sake of extending the game’s length. Modern day games have a lot of boring and time consuming side-missions and fetch quests which make a lot of modern AAA games feel like a slog, boring, and unrewarding.
you shouldnt persue it if you dont have the creativity to realize the monstrous variety there can be with video games and the colossal infinite amount of opportunities and types of games you can make and that thats the reason you are growing bored, you are only staying in one or a few types of game
personally i think it’s because the exposure. when i was growing up video games were rarer and more of a treat. they were harder to access. now, we can buy games without going to the store, we can play practically everything we want. similar to social media or the internet in general. i’m not saying it’s right or wrong, that’s a different topic. i’m just saying we’re probably so over saturated with our options that the novelty is not there
For me and basically everyone I’ve talked to about this, it comes down to competitiveness. Most games now have to be a pro league tryout sweat fest, and that’s okay in small bursts but tryharding in every game for weeks straight is just boring. It’s not even just in FPS or other shooter games. In literally every game I’ve ever played with an online feature will have someone trying their absolute hardest to win. I’ve literally played games in rec room with kids sliding and drop shotting like they’re playing call of duty.
That's why I can't wait for OW2 the pve is gonna be at whatever difficulty you like so if you hate a challenge it'll still be fun. For me I'll put it on the hardest though as unlike pvp losses don't negate any sr they only train you to be better next time so they are a lot better for the mental
I have the opposite problem,a few years ago I had my group of friends and we would go into games like rainbow 6 siege, overwatch, and apex and we would have a great time but as time went on we went are separate ways and life split my group and since I don't have a team anymore I stopped playing competitive games I've moved to more casual and single player.and now I'm pretty bored with the laid back experience
I've literally been desperately playing old games and buying old games I fell in love with as a kid to try and keep some sort of joy in this hobby alive if I'm honest.
Same... the only game i can stick to thats modern is Beamng just because i love the physics... But i always find myself playing goldeneye again on an emulator. Replaying the older gta entries. And some other things.
I'm a junkie for first person shooters, the only games I've been playing that aren't generic run of the mill FPS games are Kirby FL and GTA V (which may as well be a shooter). No idea what your situation is but games like Deep Rock Galactic and Doom Eternal are FPS games I've picked up that actually reminded me what fun in a video game should be. No overly cinematic campaigns with shallow gameplay mechanics, no more frustrating and toxic MP games. Just raw, whacky fun.
I agree 100%. From what I’ve noticed, many people don’t even play games THEY find fun, but games that other people told them were good or popular. It’s the hive mind mentality that has slowly been consuming the gaming industry.
People bickering whether which game is better is what makes people not want to play certain games. An example can be RDR2, I personally and many others love the game but there are some who dislike it, then there goes the constant bickering on both sides. If everyone can just agree to disagree and let people have fun then it shouldn’t be a problem but ofc this is the internet.
@@AParticularlyPointySoldier Yep, I’ve seen people oh this is a better game or that like jesus let people be. Before making an assumptions rather a game is fun and or good just play the game or look into it more yourself.
I feel like everybody who plays games should have an open mind when trying new stuff but also have 1 to 3 comfort franchises that youll never get sick of and can just pickup and play anytime
This is literally me but in a bad way so I haven’t beaten a new game in forever. I got Metroid Dread months ago, got about 4 sections in, then just stopped when I went back to my “comfort franchise” and haven’t gone back since even though the game was awesome
That’s how I have found myself becoming over the last couple years. I don’t know if it comes with age, but I’ve been trying to distance myself from the “basic” first and third person shooters, and back to my roots like Zelda, Pokemon, and Halo. And just like the other guy in this reply section, I’ve only really found myself finishing a select few of games these last couple years because I just keep ending up going back to them.
That’s exactly it. I’ve played games for years, and I honestly could not tell you what my favourite game genre is. I love open world games, fps games, platformers, fighters etc, but if I play one for too long I’d get bored eventually and start doing other stuff. Playing other genres is really important and if you play enough you might find an absolute masterpiece that reinvigorates your love for games, which for me was Ghost Of Tsushima. Also, if you haven’t already, try some story-driven games. Sometimes you get so immersed you forget you’re playing and it feels more like a movie, and the characters feel almost real. So yeah, there’s my advice :D
Funny, Tsushima was a game that led me to needing a breath of fresh air. I found the combat kinda boring and thought Jin’s development was _super_ rushed. It was another Witcher 3. After so much hype around it, I expected something more fun than what I got.
@@mr.stuffdoer8483 I agree that Jin’s character changed pretty suddenly, but that was more of a minor detail for me. I adored the game thanks to the graphics and art style being the best of any game I’ve played, the combat being impactful and fun enough for me, the incredible music and the ending being heartbreaking no matter which option you choose.
The way I see it, there are two reasons for this: 1. People growing out of video games as they get older 2. The video game industry has changed a lot in the last decade ( for the worst in my opinion)
yeah, the game industry has flopped since then, the only game that im excited for is dying light 2, if it disappoints me, (which i really hope it won’t) then i might just quit gaming altogether since it’s just getting worse nowadays
The biggest issue I've seen most people have that make them miserable is a huge lack of hobbies. I even saw one guy go into a store and ask if he could do anything because he was so bored on his day off. There's even a guy in the top comments talking about how he'd rather work overtime than enjoy his hobby! I think everyone should have at least 3 hobbies they can do at any point in time. Then just alternate them as you get bored.
Good point. I know a whole bunch of people who just don't know how to fill the blanks in their boredom moments. And they are usually the most likely to "don't enjoy" things.
I will say, I notice this far more among people who predominantly play online multiplayer games as opposed to single player games. For anyone feeling this way, I heavily suggest looking into other games you never even heard of or would've thought to try. Play those nintendo games you used to scoff at as a kid, try out a popular indie game you don't know much about.
Nintendo was always my jam. I remember getting an Xbox1 for Christmas along with the MasterChief collection. I never was interested in fps's like Call of Duty, as I don't like the idea of killing humans in games. However, as soon as I started playing Halo 1, my eyes lit up. The emotions I felt were incredible. I had no idea the journey I would take through the world of Halo.
One of my favorite obscure video game series is Klonoa. Heart-wrenching story and fun gameplay, becoming efficient with the platforming is really satisfying. I’d say try to setup a PS emulator and try it out I had to search online for a functional config and took me a day to get it working (message me and I’ll set up a google drive to download it if you have trouble setting it up). Seriously, you won’t regret it.
Yeah that’s where it seems like most people fail I suppose, just the main stream fps player. Not surprising they’re bored after playing the same rehashed CoD after like 12 years, let alone the fact that FPS games in general are only getting “innovation” in areas that ARENT GAMEPLAY…such as in-game stores 😒
Me in 2000: spent hours getting stupid capsule toys in Shenmue, even getting all 5 different end positions ranks in the forklift race just to have the 5 different toys. Now: can't sit through opening cut scene

Yeah I think the more valuable our time becomes the more we want to feel that excitement and get those accomplishments without wasting our time. I started slowly wasting less and less time exploring little details in games which is kinda sad because it's cool to find some easter eggs or just enjoy what the devs made for us.
I just took a break of 6 months and watched almost every anime on Netflix, big bang theory, the office and friends. I started craving for games again so installed monster hunter world. 150hrs in since then and can't stop playing
For me, i get bored playing alone, but with THE HOMIES i have lots of fun, we make memories we develope teamwork video games help us make great memories and help us escape reality
EXACTLY! I simply don't have hobbies in real life and I don't have tons of friends, but I got some. You capture it so simply and so accurately. I love it!
this! I need to game w my friends or Ill never play a game again. It really is the vital force of my gaming youth. playing in my living room with all my friends.

“Variety is the spice of life” I felt the exact same way about FPS games, so I played games like Okami, Lego Batman, hell even RecRoom for months. Then when I started up battlefield v it felt almost new to me again. I think it’s really important to be into multiple different genres to not get burnt out, I like to think the same logic applies to music too.

Yeah, this is why I stopped playing JRPGs for a while so I won't get burnt out and I played game series that I heavily missed out or was too young to understand at that time like Halo or MGS in general, and what can I say? I'm having a lot of blast right now because I think it's not how new or old those games are but rather it's often a breath of fresh air whether you play a game for the first time or you want to play it again after a long period of staying away from that particular game and not just out of nostalgia..
i loved open world games its not gta 5, far cry, dark souls, elden ring. Its like leveling up, getting new characters, get strong and fight multiple bosses.
I’ve stopped playing online multiplayers altogether bcuz of the grind and focus on profit over performance. Single player story games give so much variety and are very fun.
Whenever I say "I'm gonna play my game today" there is a hint of stress on me cause I'm going to have to deal with doing things a certain way, which isn't fun
One thing I've heard is that people get more dopamine from browsing the internet and using social media than video games, so they just don't seem as fun in comparison. So maybe limit the time you use the internet as well, which is probably a good tip in general.
I've haven't used social media for 10 months, and frankly I feel better off with it, I'm not as anxious or as hooked about the online status as I am now and I feel great.
It’s much easier to accept when you find a new hobby. I used to only play video games for hours but now I watch sports and I never really did that before. If you can find a hobby that’s different like maybe start listening to podcasts or be artistic. Just try new things. Now when I play video games like Minecraft, Cod, PD2, Mk, Ufc4, or even older games they just seem so fun but now I am in a position to be able to be apart of so many communities. The MMA community, gaming community, tv/movie communities like MCU tv communities or breaking bad or Star Wars or GOT, and just in general there are so many communities I spend my time with. I’m now getting into hockey, soccer, and rugby but when you find something new to like it’s so refreshing. When I figured out how NFL football actually work I was amazed and researched so much about the sport. I would watch old highlights, see how teams were throughout the years, and see the story lines about players. I know I’m different from a lot of people but please try new things because you’d be surprised the variety of hobbies out there. -Playing a sport -Watching a sport -Being a fan of a athlete -Read a book -Watch a new TV show your friends recommended to you but never watched -learn about history of different things -play a video game that you’d never play before I love doing all the things. I’ve interacted with so many people this way. Some games that I like playing that I’d never play before are fighting type of games, total war, or a game like city skylines. All these different games have different communities but their usually all very similar compared to others outside of games. My point is new things make you appreciate the new and old while when you keep doing that old thing while your bored of it. You’ll start to dislike it. I’m also trying to say there a millions of different hobbies out there. Maybe conspiracy theories or politics is your thing but those are different things used as hobbies and have huge communities. I personally am not political or into conspiracy theories but a lot of people are. I hope your able to find a new hobby while still playing video games. Like the guy commented below you said “you got to grow up and move on”. You could still move on and very well love video games though.
@@spectre8469 The last game I really enjoyed was Bo4. I never had a experience like that before. I played with the top players in the world. I still talk to most of the people I played with. But I usually cry at night because I loved the experience so much and can’t think about it. But now I just causally play COD, and Division 2. Sure theres been a million improvements in video games since then, but they've also taken a lot of steps backwards.
Taking a break from gaming recently has showed me hobbies I never knew I wanted to pursue. An example of this is figuring out I really like to play piano and love doing gaming covers like pokemon platinum songs. I was always a huge first party guy which I found out limited myself to game options but i started playing more games like celeste and hollow knight which was brought back my interest in games along with me being able to play some songs from the game on the piano.
Interestingly enough, I also started playing piano quite a while ago. But this also got kinda boring after ~7 years now. I am not really learning anything new, when I play occasionally, it's the same few things that I play for 3 years now. Big problem is, that piano is a really useless hobby in itself if I'm being honest. It really doesn't give you any benefits and comes into action extremely rarely as a "useful skill". I may be playing something randomly for a new person that I just met 1-2 times a year, but after 5 minutes they are always like "yep that is really cool" and the thing, that I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours on has done its job. I believe the problem lays in having no purpose. If I actually had a good reason to learn and play piano regularly, it would probably become much more interesting and enjoyable again. And the same thing might be true for gaming. I don't want to play for the sake of playing something. I want it to be meaningful and enjoyable as an actual activity.
My parents used to prevent me from playing games (to focus on studying), so every time they left the house and I got to play games, I truly felt fun, and I treasured every moment of it. Now that I’m a uni student, have a nice setup, and have all the time in the world that I’ve always wanted, I feel like playing games is a chore. I guess it’s time for me to grow up and make money lol
I can relate. My parents used to prevent me from playing, I had to ask for permission every time I wanted to play any computer game. That made me value every second, and really think about what I wanted to play. Now, when I have grown older, I can play whatever I want whenever I want. I think this takes away the special feeling of playing. It's just not as fun anymore
Ironic that something we wished our parents would just let us do more often even though wed be wishing for those special feelings to be less often @Masemiliano_
I find that offline gaming has reinvigorated my love for gaming. By disconnecting the console from the internet, I just plop in the disk and play. The good old days of sitting down in isolation with a game just cannot be beat. No downloads or updates, no notifications, and no online rage. Just pure fun!

Just played through God of War (2018) on steam for the first time and I have to agree. I'm glad that Santa Monica keep the old traditions of releasing a finished game without cutting parts of it into paid DLC, and that they respect the consumers.
I've honestly been having more fun making and modifying games, creating my own works for them, than playing them lately. Video games have driven me towards learning to create and code them, towards content creation for them. I have a weird relationship with playing them as of late.
Same man! What a good fealing is seeing your own creations come alive and realize that you have the power to impress the world with it. I hope your dreams come true!
After opening my eyes on new game genres, I’ve realized on what I’ve been missing out on and have been having a lot more fun playing games than I did in the past year!
As a video game modder and content creator i 100% agree with this. I love the process of creation more than reveling in my work! It's so fun to watch my creation come to life but i find myself not even playing my own content sometimes. I make mods for Starbound, Reassembly, and Path of Titans. and i want to turn this hobby into something profitable someday.. if i can.
They are fun but as we get older, we get lonelier making us play more. And the more we play rather than finding fulfillment elsewhere, we get burnt out.
I would play Minecraft and think if I add one more mod it will be fun, turns out it just makes a bunch of crafting recipes and the game more tedious and boring than before

This is very relatable. Over quarantine, I centered my whole life around video games since I couldn't really do anything else anymore. And I totally knocked myself out having fun. Nowadays, I got myself in a trap where video games are just not as fun anymore, however I still have no idea what the hell else I can do with my life.

Just look at the game like a child, see the world built in front of you, dont think about pixels, resolution, drama or game popularity, just play the game and if youre bored stop, refund and try something that will hit that cord
Not only this, the term "gamedesign" and the laziness to try new shit was nonexistent for me back then, which always made me go berserk and try as much games as possible, be it not my genre or straight up shit game
It’s kind of scary seeing how many people are affected by this phenomenon. I’m quite the opposite where I almost never get bored doing anything, especially video games. It’s a strange feeling not being able to understand this issue and one that I’m honestly quite grateful for.
@@thegamesbrotherssvk5135 I’m really sorry to hear that friend I hope you can find something you’d have fun with soon. I can’t really give advice but know there are always people rooting for you to do well
@- Astor - when i was 14 life was amazing but when i got to 15 i started nejoying games less and now im 16 And i dont enjoy anything (almost) so yeah obviously i had some suicidal thoughts here And there
@@thegamesbrotherssvk5135 honestly I feel the same way. When I was on my phone when I was like in middle school the games and social media was better. I would go outside a lot more and I didn’t have to worry about working. Now I’m growing up and not even thinking about playing outside with the neighbors or playing with toys. I just want money
the bad part for me is, i discover new games out of my comfort zone but... i just don't have motivation to keep playing them damn, even the games ive been playing happened the same thing, no videogame seems fun to me anymore, no matter the genre, no matter how many times I've played, i got burnt out.
"When i was first started watching anime and films i was almost overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options that i had for things people consider as timeless classics." This feeling really defines how i feel while trying to take a new hobby.
It's what makes getting into new hobbies so fun, learn all the stuff that there is to know. It helps loads if you know someone that's already in the hobby though, as they can give you anchors/starting points. So you can more easily see the individual trees, instead of 1 big forest ...
This is literally is the solution to my problem that helped me play games again and enjoying them. As of starting my 20s, I only played 1 FPS which was Halo: Combat Evolved. This gave a whole new genre to explore that I stared with the new Doom series that I loved. I have to reiterate that I only had a Nintendo consoles but with the Switch that some 3rd party support and a laptop that has enough power I stared to branch out. As of now, I’m enjoying playing games by taking breaks, trying new genres, to go back the old ones and repeat it again.
I wasn't aware this was an issue. Then as the video went on I realised why. I'm inherently a variety gamer. While I tend to play a lot of fps games and fighting games, I play just as many rpgs and single player games. I suppose it makes sense I've never really gotten bored. Whenever I get tired of a genre I just switch it up for a few months and I'm golden.
exactly my thoughts. A lot of people just stick to one type of game which is usually just fps games. I played r6s with my friends constantly and then we all took a break, I started playing a lot of single player games and they quickly became some of my favourite games. Then we all got back into siege and had some of the most fun in all of our gaming experience. People need to learn to take breaks from things and not just play the same games over and over. Also I think the people saying that new games aren’t fun are usually the ones that just play multiplayer shooter games. The top 4 games on imdb are modern games with two of them coming out in 2018.
Simple answer: We have grown older, we have so much other burdens on us, playing a game for like 2 hr and then regretting every night about it is not a thing someone would want in life.
Im 16, and just this morning i had the usual problem of staring at my games, not wanting to play any, then just turning off my console. 16 isnt exactly when people are mature…
@@master.9202 I am 16 too. Maturation isn't completely associated with your age. My family is not rich so I have to work and manage school. On top of that I eventually realised that games are a waste of time(unless you do youtube & stuff). Even on sundays I would prefer to work overtime or study then to play video games. Everyones life is not same. So maybe your reasons are different.
@@Lore98897 wow, I can confirm that you are much more mature than me, having such responsabilities at such a young age. Our lives are kind of different, so that explains why our perspectives are different. Anyways, I wish you the best of luck.
So how do you deal with your burdens? Do you try to escape reality or do you just sit and suffer? Also, what games would you play before quitting? I’ve been wanting to to quit games for a while now, but I literally got nothing to do besides working out and boxing. Other than that I have nothing going on for me. I’m currently 17 and a highschool dropout due to being suicidal being there and stress. But other than that I don’t know where i’m headed for in life. I’m like a chicken waiting to get hit by a car. I’ve been on edge for a few years now and it’s a scary feeling.
The problem with left for dead 2 is the braindead multiplayer players. People are getting banned in serves just for miss a hunter or charger attack. I literally gor banned because i try to help a player in the final of dark carnival for trying making everyone escape
You should absolutely watch a RUclips video about the developer commentary or just play it yourself, all the little details makes you appreciate the game even more
This is why I love Gamepass. I just cycled through the Gamepass library, when i found what became one of my favorite games, Superliminal. Can't think of any way I would've tried the game elsewhere.
superliminal was solid. Supraland (gamepass) Portal 2, The Witness, Maquette, Antichamber are other similar first person puzzlers that are excellent too with Maquette being very close to superliminal in perspective driven visual puzzles.
I don't know what it is. I try playing different games, and I used to get at least a little bit of excitement after buying a new game or playing something for the first time in a while, but that feeling is gone. I used to only have a few games that I enjoyed a lot, but now I legit can't think of a single game that I have fun playing. I try taking breaks, trying new genres, using mods to change the game, but I just can't enjoy it. And it's not even just video games anymore. I no longer enjoy talking to people, riding my bike, working out, playing with my dog, or even going on vacation. It's not just video games that aren't fun anymore, it's literally everything. I don't know what's happening to me, but I just can't enjoy anything anymore, let alone games.
I've been depressed since I was a little kid, never really had a good time and only thing I had left was video games, so they kept me company and made me feel things, years pass and I grow up, things keep being the same and there's problems everywhere and every time in my house, but I always had video games as a shelter so I kept playing them and enjoying them. Years pass and my mom dies in 2019, at the time I couldn't play anything to distract myself because my pc motherboard died so I lend my parts to a friend so he could have a good time while I was stuck in my house while the pandemic was still going hard. I kept playing Apex Legends on my ps4 with some friends from time to time, I enjoyed the game, weird since my golden days of multiplayer where the days I used to play CoD, Halo or Gears with my fellow friends, even GTA IV online. So Apex Legends kind of revived those days a bit but shit was still going on in my head. A few years pass I meet a beautiful person on 2020, we get together and I'm the happiest I've ever been in 9 months... then sadly one day she abruptly falls ill and then dies. Ever since then I couldn't play games for quite some time again, months pass and I start playing Apex again with my friends to distract myself but then I realize I cannot do it anymore. I start losing and losing and I never got to be the same ever again ever since, I just deleted the game 2 days ago and I've been just thinking what the hell am I even doing and how the hell can I start enjoying things ever again. I play RDR 2 even though I already played it before and a bit of cyberpunk from time to time to pass the time. I remember I was so hyped for Elden Ring but then I completed it and just left it there, I'm not hyped anymore for anything. Old friends I used to play with got divided and I feel like I don't have anyone else sometimes, I feel so fucking alone and a video game cannot make me feel good anymore. I guess that's just life, I must go on and just abandon this hobby. It's 3 am and I just wrote all this shit.
Hang in there man. Things will get better. I'm going through some stuff myself, my brother died four years ago and I'm not enjoying gaming anymore either. Hang on, and try some new things. Watch some TV shows. Get into a sport or something. Do some reading. You'll find something, it will just take time, and get someone to help if you can.

@@LOLXD-sf4yd see i disagree, not that retro are worse in design, I’d just much rather have a game that is similar to those is construction, but does not have the rigidity. There are some amazing games made by indie devs. Like one step from Eden is to me a fucking masterpiece of a game and was made by just one dude, but it was a game that the challenge was inviting to me, it took a while to truly understand the mechanics but once it clicked it was such a rewarding experience. Also games like enter the gungeon. Paying 10-15 bucks for games that have taken advantage of leaps in technology without cheapening what made those games good. I throughly enjoy metroidvania games like axiom verge, but if I boot up castlevania rondo of blood, it’s just not fun. I also think I am distancing from the hobby also because of circumstantial reasons, as in I feel like I want other mediums of challenge and exploration in life instead of sticking to what is familiar. I like using analytical skills and observational skills to try and look at why things are as they are, not in a grand philosophical way, but building up a much larger amount of understanding of things by reading things that for most of my life I never would have come close too. Anything related to “learning” in regards to school was just the polar opposite of what I’d call fun. Then in my thirties things just kinda started falling in place as I grew up, experienced good times and bad times, was able to look at things comparatively and then that became like a puzzle game for me.
@@TheFamousMockingbird that's absolutely true. There are some amazing indie games out there that also feel very refreshing. This is a good point. It's actually what makes any experience special is the people you have it with. And games are no exception. Playing with friends is always the best thing, or at the very least sharing progress with friends. It adds to the fun of playing games, and also leaves you with fond memories. :)

I think this video can be summed up in one sentence: "If you want to enjoy something, it needs to break your status quo." Emotion is all relative to what your current status quo is. Which means that if your status quo is constantly completing objectives, fighting monsters, getting combos, and beating previous times, then that status quo is going to start feeling like exactly that: That status quo. Games were exciting when we were young because everything about them was new and unexpected. It was fresh, creative, and mind blowing in a way that let our imaginations run wild with the sense that there were infinite possibilities. But when you're constantly consuming and experiencing "new and unexpected" things all the time, they quickly become old and very expected. Not that they're not cool, but that we're so used to it that we don't even register it as cool anymore. Again, the status quo. There are two ways to fix your status quo so that games are exciting again: 1) Take time to be bored. Set your status quo to boredom, separation from games, social media, youtube, etc. 2) Find games that break your status quo. New genres, new art styles, new control schemes, and so on. Anything that is different from what you're used to. Do these two things, and games will be fun again.
This video unironically helped me a lot to come to terms with the fact that I'm going through the exact same thing you did. I thought I was getting tired of games, but in reality I'm just tired of FPS games and I need to branch out. Thank you for this video, Stryxo. It means a lot to me, and I'm sure many others

This reminds me of a podcast where they talked about the same thing, except with anime. Doing the same thing again and again gets tiring. The trick is to either branch out of that thing or look into other things so you don’t just consume that one type of media. The trick is variety
Yeah, this mostly happens to people where this is their only major hobby. Once I started working out and having other pastimes, I wound up enjoying vidya and anime even more than I ever did before.
I think more variety in life is key to enjoying games. I felt this exact way about games and then 5 years I met a girl and got into my first really serious adult relationship. Moved in together, got a cat, got a job I liked and everything in life was good, but my love for games came back stronger than ever. The time in my life when I had the least amount of time to play games and all of a sudden I wanted to play them in every free minute I had. Sadly, we broke up earlier this year and now I have all the time to play games but I'm back to just putting a few hours into a game before moving on to another, then putting a few hours into that and moving on to another and it goes on and on. Seems like my enjoyment of games really hinges on my enjoyment of life outside of games. Real bummer.
Hit the nail on the head mate. Sorry about the relationship; I've had similar happen to me. It's weird how hobbies come and go. I took a year off after finishing school specifically to play games - I played like 12-15hrs/day trying to get top rank. Eventually (years later after getting a job and gaming all day after work) I burned out of playing.... Like I played so much that I literally couldn't enjoy gaming anymore. I stopped playing for like six months, had a very boring day one day and decided to play a game for old times sake... I fell in love again. Two months later I'm playing every day again and guess what? The joy is once again gone. It's a lesson I learned with my love (cannabis) - some things really are best in moderation. There is such thing as too much of a good thing. Hope you're doing well now mate. Take care.
for those getting bored with games, id recommend getting VR, just because it is such a new experience. I was getting a bit bored with most games I played (tho admittedly i was kinda stuck with low-power games cos bad pc) but then I got my Quest 2 about a year ago and I literally spend 90% of my gaming time in it
I’m not a fan of VR personally. It’s very heavy on your head and it kinda hurts my eyes when I am directly in front of a screen. I’m sure that is a great suggestion for others
@@jif420 yeah thats one of its main problems, some people have negative reactions to it all like motion sickness and eyes hurting, and others dont experience anything. its always good to test it out first before spending £1000 on a valve index
I play every popular multiplayer game I can find. Do I enjoy them? No. But it feels like a job grinding for Unreal in Fortnite, spending hours getting cards I couldn’t care less about in Ultimate Team, or even touching COD. People say playing with friends makes this more fun, but it doesn’t feel the same as sitting next to them, playing a simple, couch co-op arcade game. You just hear them screaming through your headset, telling you that you’re selling the game while your bored out of your mind. Sometimes I play a single player game, but is there even a true single player game anymore? Somehow, everything is connected to the internet and there are always people that would roast you for what you choose to do in them.
I feel like it can also tie into your mindset and how old you are. I found myself not enjoying gaming as much at around 16 and noticed the same for my friends. I felt like it was a waste of time rather than a hobby. I still love games tho but like the video said, I need variety.
I'm about that age, but personally I don't understand how people play other games they never did before. The sole reason I don't play them is because I don't like them or find them boring even from the trailer or gameplay footage. I can't find any other games to play because all the other ones have something seriously wrong with them that the main fandom just can't see for some reason. Like Sea Of Thieves for example, how do you not get annoyed at the hotkeys? I know you can change them but you shouldn't ever have like 3 to 5 different buttons for the same action on different npc's. And other games I just personally dislike the graphics, or the characters, or the limited game mechanics. Some games just flat out forget it's a story game and don't tell you where to go to continue, so you're there exploring the entire town for the npc you need to talk to or to randomly find the area the boss spawns in. Other games are just not for me like the Yugioh franchise, I don't like card games in general, I played the uno game on steam/Uplay and it wasn't anywhere near fun. Sure it's uno, but it's not real. It doesn't have that realism in it, the physical opponent that you're trying to +4. You can't use any house rules, It's sometimes just not even uno at all, seriously rabids uno? uno flip? uno with teams? that just isn't what the game was supposed to be. Although it's not many that are "good", the city building genre of games I don't understand at all, how do you have fun playing that? You get a set amount of money and you just place things on a grid, and sit there and watch a super low resolution 4 pixel person hop on it and ride the ride. What do you get afterward, more money? great! You can now make a path to the ride so it's not cluttered. But what do you do at the end of it? You now just have a big theme park bigger than Disney World. What do you do now? Sure this could be applied to a lot of games, but with a city builder such as Cities: Skylines, you just have a giant park that screams, "I am so bored I spent 400 hours on this". It makes me worry how someone could get so bored they stoop to the level of a city builder game. Even the genre of games that I like are changing for the worse. I like fps games but the halo games personally for me isn't fun, I don't like the super futuristic guns and even with guns with led bullet counters, at least have something like the Black Ops 3 movement system. Sorry for the rant, that's just my take on things lately.
I keep getting stuck in a loop. 1. Find awesome series of games that I never knew existed. 2. Struggle and scavenge whatever I can to actually play older titles. 3. Get excited but mildly depressed while playing because all of the important secrets were spoiled to me on the internet. 4. Play the last entry and realize the franchise is dead. (Studio went bankrupt, under new management, or simply dropped it.) 5. Search online for the alive fanbase which most likely consists of gatekeeping among other things. 6. Search in vain for a similar game that fills in the void that needs another entry in the series. 7. Repeat.
@@dexxenyrcosas Im going to be honest, I made this post when I was sour about Metal Gear. I still have some other examples, like the Mario & Luigi RPG series (RIP Alphadream) among other small nitpicks I have with franchises currently being managed poorly by companies like Ubisoft or EA.

@@Weaver_Games game just suck now is a terrible claim, you realize how many games are made and how you have experienced less then a single decimal percent of them right, you just might not like playing games man
Same here, life has become more stressful and tiring. I thought maybe after 8 or 9 hour work shifts I could come home and play a game. Doesn’t happen too much, and when it does; feel unfulfilled. Not even video games can take my mind off of work, real world, and my most dark thoughts.
Personally, I don't feel like I am losing interest in gaming, Whenever I think about this type of thing, I always ask myself this one question. What was the last game released that absolutely blew me away? Nothing can really come to mind, it really seems to me that gaming developers are the ones that have lost interest in gaming... as sad as it is to say that, I feel that its true. A lot of gaming developers today are either interested in how they can make the most money (micro transactions) or how fast they can release a game. I think gaming will spike again when we get some real game developers.
Fr this mf said go play Spyro like I’m 10 nah maybe game developers should just make better games. Everyone on twitch and gamers in general all are upset with the industry its not a matter of interest
It seems like you are talking mostly about AAA games (most modern indie games don't have those problems), and most of those games have the problems that you mentioned because of the executives and other higher ups of those big companies, not because of the devs.
Game developers are the last people you should be blaming. These are people who devote their lives to making games, sometimes having to go over time to meet deadlines. They wouldn't be in that career if they didn't love what they did.
I’ve been playing games for 18 years and every single year I’ve felt that a release has completely blown me away. In 2020 it was TLOU2.(regardless of your opinions on the story) Naughty Dog has gone above and beyond to make their world feel realistic and that it was truly lived in. The incredible amount of detail is something I’ve yet to see replicated. Beautiful animations, phenomenal job from all the VAs. I don’t want this to turn into TLOU ruined Naughty Dog or TLOU perfect, I think everyone can agree that the game is truly one of the best not accounting for the story. And what your opinion is on the story is irrelevant to being blown away by everything else. In 2021 it was Maquette. That game gave me the Ego scene from Ratatouille. In 2018 it was Detroit Become Human which accomplished the goal Telltale was aiming for, choices that actually matter and dramatically change how your playthrough pans out. Yeah the story was surface level and very on the nose, but the fact is is that it’s still the only game where your decisions genuinely impact your experience. 2017 is easy, Doki Doki Literature Club (if you know you know). The last one I’ll mention technically came out in 2018 but it was November and I didn’t play it till 2019 soooooooo... Tetris Effect VR is genuinely the best game I played in 2019. The full immersion being in the headset with the lovingly crafted backgrounds and music and how things will change around you based on how fast the game is going now. The sound effects that compliment each theme. Everything adds together to make you fully immersed in a stressful and stress free environment. And I will add, Fortnite has done some incredible things over the years. The concert, a literal black screen forbidding people from playing for a few days while everyone anxiously waited. When dozens are big games are released every single year, it can be hard to care about all of them and notice when something takes a chance and tries something new or tries to improve on something. It can be especially hard as a consumer to not buy a safe game you know you’ll enjoy enough to get your money worth. It’s also a thing of technology (in the video game world) slowing down as it is incredibly hard to still be unique. When CDs came out it opened a whole new world of infinite possibilities and it’s why PlayStation nabbed a ton of Nintendo’s great developers. I personally don’t think it’s rare to find a game that is truly groundbreaking, I just think the things we considered groundbreaking for so long have now been normalised. Back in the day it was graphics and realism (for me), but now every big release has talented ass VAs with a big ass studio, mocap set and veteran developers. I think it’s also an issue of discussing games online. I mean, how many times before an online game releases do I hear some dumbo say “the next big esport?!” Nickelodeon all Star didn’t even release and I swear Akshon esports was saying it was going to destroy Smash. Then it came out and nobody cared. People online overhype every. Single. Game. And then wonder why it doesn’t do well. If you’re looking to be blown away, you’ll always be disappointed. Imo, don’t pay attention to what people online are saying and just play games. Pick up a random game with zero expectations and just play it, and you’ll be surprised how often you come out with a truly great experience.
This was exactly my mindset about 4 years ago when I started college, except I had played many of the games that you listed in your branching off examples, and spend so much time scrolling through my owned games of all different genres and not having the energy to boot one up. Maybe sometimes a complete shutoff from games (including videos, social media, and other related items) is also a good idea. And Halo Infinite also renewed my interest and playing often again.
i've found that playing games, especially different games with friends instead of playing solo brings me those same feelings I had when playing minecraft as a kid with my friends on a skype call. Even a boring game can be made fun by playing it with a friend.
Ironically I hate playing games with other people. When I play single-player games I feel like I can escape into another world for a moment and craft my own unique story (even if it's a linear story driven game lol.) I'm not really even introverted, I think I just get stressed out having to keep up with/entertain another person while playing lmao
True. I've always found that whenever I'm playing a game with someone I'm at least in a Discord call with is much better than doing it alone. With that as a reminder, I should probably pick up Foxhole sometime soon...
A huge issue for me is game companies listening to the casual players in pvp games and lowering the skillgap because some trashcan casual cant beat someone who is just better
I can’t believe this took me so long to realize. Recently I started just playing games that have been sitting collecting dust in my library. The two I’m playing right now (Dead Space 1 and Monster Hunter World) brought back the constant feeling of joy I’ve had from playing games. All I needed was variety.
Old is gold here, after getting tied of these new games ive been going back to the past of games. My new favorite games is stuff like Postal 2, Pathological, and Tf2. Games just meant to be fun, and I dare say I’ve had fun.
all games are meant for fun, it's just that there are other ways to make a "fun" game which is really is subjective usually. play games you like, but don't try to make an objective statement about game development while you are at it
Personally playing a good last gen game or classic game with a good story really helps, I noticed so many people become almost entirely linear in what games they play that they don’t realize how much they are burning themselves out.
I personally feel that playing a variety of games is what helps with boredom. Also, having games for different moods. For example, the games I play for fun when I'm bored are 2d mario games. I just go and do a quick run of them and usually have a good time. My time investment games are any pokemon game and legend of zelda breath of the wild. Finally, my multiplayer games are any wii series game and mario party. I play a lot of Nintendo games, but this method of division for games is helpful for anyone.
It's not just nostalgia, u wanna know why? Cuz a lot of modern video games are just a bunch of carbon copies of cinematic trash. Especially next-gen ps5 games..
I don't have any enjoyment from newer game, I don't know what you are playing but I've been playing something like Roblox? or something I don't know It was really boring and community is really toxic, modern game is really bad because most of it is about war shooting stuff or boring open world RPG
I'm starting to feel the same thing. Guess we're all just growing up. However, when I got into VR, It all felt new again. Since then, I've never gotten bored.
There’s a difference between getting good at games and enjoying the game itself. As someone who used to enjoy the competitive drive of shooters, rhythm games and slowly fighting games, my enjoyment for the game itself diminishes yet still trying my best to get good and keep the grind going. It feels like chasing the enjoyment I once had but it will never come. This why enjoying a game as a game is literally healthy for you.
I only started to notice this after the lockdown had been lifted I don’t see the enjoyment in games anymore I’m constantly scrolling through games and getting bored within 10 minutes , your video is relatable to a lot of us , good video!
I found the best way is to have a few different hobbies, and when you DO play video games, maybe try showing your video game to someone who is new to it. You'll enjoy seeing a friend experience something neat for the first time, and you can use your knowledge of the game to try to give them the coolest experience possible.
i feel this on a deep level, some parts of it for me are that i'm older and gaming as a kid with no responsibilities and no understanding of how games work behind the scenes was more fun than as an adult where you have an idea of how things worked plus back then games had unlocks, secrets, mysteries that were only because of the technical limitations of the devs where as now you know a certain endpoint when you are fully done with a game. Other parts are that modern games just haven't grabbed my attention span like they did back then. Gaming with friends the day can fly by because you are having fun with others which will always be better than solo
The lack of unlocks earned by achievements kills modern games for me. Used to you'd work hella hard and get a difficult achievement, and you'd literally get to wear an item exclaiming to everyone that you achieved a goal. Now? Every single skin/cosmetic you have has a price tag dangling off it. All people know about you is that you spent money on a skin/cosmetic. They mean nothing now. No skin is any "better" than another. There is no effort into earning anything. Even battle passes are just a grind. Just play the game and inevitably you will unlock everything on it without doing anything of value in particular.
Yeah, I remember some dude ranting "Every game sucks! I've played everything like CoD, FIFA, Far Cry..." The list was just sequels of franchise AAA games, not mentioning anything interesting like Red Dead Redemption, let alone indies.
As someone who just made his first friend in 8 years, I have been playing with other people for the first time ever recently, and video games are as fun as ever right now. I’ve had an Xbox 10 years, from a 360, to an Xbox one, to an Xbox one S, to an Xbox series S. I’ve played by myself for a long time, and it got pretty boring, but now that I’m playing with friends for the first time ever, video games have become fun again
For the longest time I lost interest in gaming. I later lost interest in everything else too, and I was worried everything was gonna get worse as I got older like everyone says. And then I realised it was all just confirmation bias. I heard too many times that I would regret all the time I spent playing games over doing other things, and don't get me wrong, I love hanging out with friends and doing things instead of gaming, but regret is a choice. No one decides what is a waste of time except you. I remember in highschool I regretted not participating in those stupid events just because other people I knew had gone. But its not like I didn't go to any events, I went to some, and they were stupid, and I regretted going. When you stop trying to min max your enjoyment, you see life as a kid again, at least from my perspective.
This is precisely why I got DolphiniOS and am playing GameCube games on my iPhone. Haven't come across a single modern game on any platform that compares to how much fun the older style was.
list of varied games i like for those with this problem:
hollow knight - really good metroidvania
factorio - amazing factory building sandbox game, but maybe avoid this one if you want to do anything else for the next 48 hours
portal 2 - favorite game of all time, amazing puzzles
metro exodus - if your pc can run it, it's really good
pretty much any doom game - not the deepest of experiences, but very fun and difficult
a hat in time - great mario-64 like with a surprising amount of content
rimworld - colony building game, enough mods to make a second game
stardew valley - only farming game I've ever enjoyed
dishonored - great stealth/story fps, cool choices, second one if you like it enough
prey (2017) - similar to dishonored, by the same people, but more of a spiritual successor to:
bioshock - 1 and 2, recommend the originals rather than the remasters if you can get them to run on your computer. all time classic
terraria - pretty well-known 2d sandbox game, lots of bossfights and another game with tons of mods
enter the gungeon - funny top-down twinstick shooter roguelike. even if you don't know what some of those words mean, still great game
outer wilds - not to be confused with the outer worlds. cannot recommend this enough. story driven roguelike. DO NOT SPOIL YOURSELF.
valheim - terraria but 3d and viking themed. also really good.
octodad: dadliest catch - hilarious rage-game. there is no reason this has such a low metacritic score, it's a great game.
project zomboid - tough-as-nails zombie apocalypses survival game with permadeath.
vessel - difficult indie 2d puzzle game. very thematic, might require some looking-up.
control - cool 3rd person shooter with a bizarre story and cool brutalist architecture, if that's your thing. made by the people who made alan wake.
dead space - all time classic, really scary if it's your first time playing. slightly less scary once you get a certain weapon.
goat simulator - sadly somewhat short on content, but still entertaining to play around with for a while.
slime rancher - ok maybe i lied about stardew valley. much more chill than some other games on this list.
stanley parable - funny story-driven game about a guy in an office
singularity - relatively little-known linear fps that still holds up today. also a little bit scary.
spelunky - one of the few "rage games" i like. platformer roguelike
the swapper - difficult 2d puzzle game with a dark story and some pretty cool graphics.
deus ex: human revolution - good story driven semi-linear rpg fps game. not *too* groundbreaking, but still fun.
dark souls series - reaaally hard if you don't know what you're doing, but you figure things out eventually. interesting story, mechanics, and really good combat.
titanfall 2 - movement shooter to end all movement shooters. if you're having server problems, look into the northstar client- community hosted servers
ultrakill - doom with a retro 3d style. nuff said.
and that's it, I've gone through almost all the major games in my steam library. hope this helps
What about:
Get To The Orange Door - an alternate version of Ultrakill
Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator - RPG type game but with the style of Papers Please as in, you buy/sell organs to the highest bidder while also evading the cops
Super Hot - you probably know about it, time moves when you move and you have to kill everyone
litteraly any Tetris game - 'cause, y'know, tetris
Twelve Minutes - an RPG groundhog day mystery game where you have to find out how to save your wife and yourself from a cop who's looking into a murder. (best desc i could think of)
Unpacking - a calm game where you unpack and explore life in a pixel art style while also seeing what happends to you as you go along.
Exo One - a calm space game where you try to get to the light in the distance while also figuring out what happend to you, it's great to pass the time and has a timer at the end to show you how long it took to beat the game. (i recomend)
Superliminal - a scycadelic type of game (that takes place in a dream) it's kinda like portal, but without the portals.
Backbone - an RPG, pixel art, 2-d, mystery. about a raccoon detective that wants to figure out a suspected cheating husband only to see that the raccoon was in way over his head. (the first chapter is great, but it lost me farther in.)
cluster truck - You climb on trucks to get to the end of levels you unlock gadgets the more you play and the more style points if you do tricks
Astroneer - an open world space explorer where you have to colonize and discover the secrets of the stars
Fire Watch - A RPG mystery game where you are a ranger stationed in a fire watch tower.
HIGHLY recommend Titan Fall 2 been playing it since launch still having fun!
The Metro Trilogy is just too good. Imo, its one of those games you have to play before you die
Great list.
Enjoy new games people, don't stick to the same thing all day everyday.
Is outer wilds REALLY a rougelike???
The biggest reason I am disappointed with modern gaming is the “Ship now finish later” mentality. The idea that a corporate giant because of deadlines and budgets, will ship an unfinished terrible project.
The key is to only buy first party games
If people actually stopped sucking corporate dick and stopped buying shitty unfinnished games it wouldnt be a problem
Just like Steelwool Studios did with SB, except we don't know if they'll ever actually finish it.
Wouldn’t people also bitch about the game taking to long? There isn’t really a compromise
That isnt the only problem
They also just go for graphics wich is dumb and also ‘realistic’ physics
Almost Any game that was made before 2015 Is just better
I feel like the whole battle pass system has made games feel like a job to play now. It feels like your forced to play the game or else you will lose the cool stuff nobody will be able to get after a set time.
Exactly! There's really nothing to actually work towards that you can constantly get closer to at any given time. Instead, you literally have no objectives, just play the game for 300 hours and get cool skin. Its so fucking lame
Yeah I agree completely. That’s sort of why I’ve slowly stopped playing multiplayer games and started playing single player games exclusively

The "absurd amount of missions" is really true. I buyed the battle pass of Fortnite a few days because of spider man, now feels more like a job than playing a game for fun... Doing boring missions all the day to not lose XP

i used to think that i could visit my home in need for speed if i cross what's beyond the other side as a kid. Still, i enjoy learning about how games work as a hobby

@@deleted72636 that's a great testimony. Thank you for sharing it. I'm not brave enough to share my faith like that. I envy you brother
I disagree. Modern video games just don’t have the longevity that older games did.
I could play games on the Wii/Xbox 360 for hours on end, such as Madden, 2k, CoD, MC, etc
Nowadays, there is no physical way for me to have fun in any FPS game for longer than an hour-and during that period, I’m really not having too much fun, other than banter with friends.
@@dragoonman1478 yes, in short everything we do we should do it for a limit

Just create what you like. No better time to be an indie dev than the early to mid 21st century
Well then if you make a game make it good
be the difference maker! Be unique!
i caca: just try to always remember that games are meant to be fun.
Just play single player games then, it's not that complex
I have the opposite problem,a few years ago I had my group of friends and we would go into games like rainbow 6 siege, overwatch, and apex and we would have a great time but as time went on we went are separate ways and life split my group and since I don't have a team anymore I stopped playing competitive games I've moved to more casual and single player.and now I'm pretty bored with the laid back experience
It’s at a very *SPECIFIC* and I have to power to change that………
But I won’t because I like that number 😏😈
Personally, "competing and improving" is one way for me to say "yeah im totally not wasting my time on this game you see im achieving something"
I've literally been desperately playing old games and buying old games I fell in love with as a kid to try and keep some sort of joy in this hobby alive if I'm honest.

Just raw, whacky fun.
omg like literally? like tbh? omg ngl I like literally can't even rn
It's all about the "best" game rather than the most fun. It's a downward spiral.
I agree 100%. From what I’ve noticed, many people don’t even play games THEY find fun, but games that other people told them were good or popular. It’s the hive mind mentality that has slowly been consuming the gaming industry.
Nope, funnest game is Links Awakening.

That’s how I have found myself becoming over the last couple years. I don’t know if it comes with age, but I’ve been trying to distance myself from the “basic” first and third person shooters, and back to my roots like Zelda, Pokemon, and Halo. And just like the other guy in this reply section, I’ve only really found myself finishing a select few of games these last couple years because I just keep ending up going back to them.
the only franchise where i can play all games again without getting bored is kingdom hearts.
This is basically me: I always try new things with Xbox Game Pass but I have my comfort franchises (Marvel Spider Man, Batman Arkham and Star Wars)
My franchises are Arkham Batman and Doom
I’m playing ghost of Tsushima Rn and it really is a breath of fresh air that I needed, because it is a work of art
God of War for me!!
Open world games maybe the majority but I do play MK11 from time to time
Funny, Tsushima was a game that led me to needing a breath of fresh air.
The way I see it, there are two reasons for this:
1. People growing out of video games as they get older

I've haven't used social media for 10 months, and frankly I feel better off with it, I'm not as anxious or as hooked about the online status as I am now and I feel great.

Kinda a hard reality to accept, especially when you think you’d love video games forever.
-Playing a sport
-Watching a sport
-Being a fan of a athlete
-Read a book
-Watch a new TV show your friends recommended to you but never watched
-learn about history of different things
-play a video game that you’d never play before
I love doing all the things.

I do tried to play piano, but can't agree on celeste, game look quite boring

I make mods for Starbound, Reassembly, and Path of Titans. and i want to turn this hobby into something profitable someday.. if i can.

I think this video can be summed up in one sentence: "If you want to enjoy something, it needs to break your status quo."
Emotion is all relative to what your current status quo is.
There are two ways to fix your status quo so that games are exciting again:
1) Take time to be bored. Set your status quo to boredom, separation from games, social media, youtube, etc.
2) Find games that break your status quo. New genres, new art styles, new control schemes, and so on. Anything that is different from what you're used to.
Do these two things, and games will be fun again.

Take care.

I can't find any other games to play because all the other ones have something seriously wrong with them that the main fandom
just can't see for some reason.
Some games just flat out forget it's a story game and don't tell you where to go to continue,
so you're there exploring the entire town for the npc you need to talk to or to randomly find the area the boss spawns in.
Other games are just not for me like the Yugioh franchise, I don't like card games in general, I played the uno game on steam/Uplay and it wasn't anywhere near fun.
Sure it's uno, but it's not real. It doesn't have that realism in it, the physical opponent that you're trying to +4. You can't use any house rules,
It's sometimes just not even uno at all, seriously rabids uno? uno flip? uno with teams? that just isn't what the game was supposed to be.
Sure this could be applied to a lot of games,
but with a city builder such as Cities: Skylines, you just have a giant park that screams, "I am so bored I spent 400 hours on this".
It makes me worry how someone could get so bored they stoop to the level of a city builder game.
Even the genre of games that I like are changing for the worse. I like fps games but the halo games personally for me isn't fun,
I don't like the super futuristic guns and even with guns with led bullet counters, at least have something like the Black Ops 3 movement system.
(Studio went bankrupt, under new management, or simply dropped it.)
5. Search online for the alive fanbase which most likely consists of gatekeeping among other things.
6. Search in vain for a similar game that fills in the void that needs another entry in the series.
7. Repeat.
Can ya give some examples of this?

@@freddiehigham3951 True I blame the people above them that take away from their creativity for profits
I felt this way for 10 years already, I now go months without playing a game at a time.
😢

@Esh With creative mode on will literally be heaven on earth
Sometimes you have to look inward: are games not fun or are you doing something wrong?
Are games not fun or have I been playing the exact same game for the last few years?
are games not fun or maybe I shouldn’t be playing Spider-Man for the thirties time?
This actually made a lot of sense. I'm going to try playing other games immediately
Old is gold here, after getting tied of these new games ive been going back to the past of games. My new favorite games is stuff like Postal 2, Pathological, and Tf2. Games just meant to be fun, and I dare say I’ve had fun.
I've been having a hell of a time recently on CS:Source playing some zombie mode. Can't beat the classics I guess.
all games are meant for fun, it's just that there are other ways to make a "fun" game which is really is subjective usually. play games you like, but don't try to make an objective statement about game development while you are at it
postal 2 is absolutely timeless
Pathological is the game furthest of intended to be fun imo but still good

Personally playing a good last gen game or classic game with a good story really helps, I noticed so many people become almost entirely linear in what games they play that they don’t realize how much they are burning themselves out.
I can never be tired of video games as there’s so many of them with vastly types of gameplay. Infinite possibilities.

True, this is why my most played is Brawlhalla, Garden Warfare 2 and Trove.
But I grew up on the Gameboy Color
games are for fun
I only started to notice this after the lockdown had been lifted I don’t see the enjoyment in games anymore I’m constantly scrolling through games and getting bored within 10 minutes , your video is relatable to a lot of us , good video!
I found the best way is to have a few different hobbies, and when you DO play video games, maybe try showing your video game to someone who is new to it. You'll enjoy seeing a friend experience something neat for the first time, and you can use your knowledge of the game to try to give them the coolest experience possible.
I had the same issue. I was bored. Then I grabbed a VR headset. Now I’m enjoying games like Skyrim VR, Tetris Effect VR, Minecraft VR, etc
i feel this on a deep level, some parts of it for me are that i'm older and gaming as a kid with no responsibilities and no understanding of how games work behind the scenes was more fun than as an adult where you have an idea of how things worked plus back then games had unlocks, secrets, mysteries that were only because of the technical limitations of the devs where as now you know a certain endpoint when you are fully done with a game.
