- Welcome to Bamford Edge! For this wild camp, I meet up with fellow RUclipsrs Hardy from Hardy Tempest's Wild Camps & Walks, and James and Mary from Bad Hair Adventures. Please do check out and subscribe to their channels (see links below).
I travelled out of my usual camping region to the Peak District. I met everyone in Bamford and we then hiked up the very, very steep Bamford Clough to our destination. It was very misty, in fact, we ended up walking through, and camping in, clouds!
A thoroughly enjoyable walk and wild camp.
Many thanks for watching - Ben

I can confirm that the bird trying to be the star of my video is a red grouse.
:-) *Thank you.
Great little camp despite the poor weather Ben and the Tetri looked ideal in those conditions. I must admit I do love checking the temperatures when out on a camp, no idea why. TFS Andy
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment Andy. It was quite a cheap thermometer actually - and seems to be fairly accurate. About £3 off ebay I think. ATB - Ben
Yeah I picked one up as well for my wildcamp. Think I paid a few quid from Home Bargains lol. You still loving the Tetri?
Got To Get Outdoors second time of using the Tetri. Feels like a good workhorse of a tent. Solid. Wouldn’t mind seeing how it fairs in wind.
Londoner Outdoors yeah I’d be interested to see that too. Next time it’s blowing a whollie you need to get out in it as research lol. ATB Andy
They make some strange noises them.grouse, that's all I could hear all night there, it's a steep walk up that first climb, I need to get myself one of those little thermometers, looked a great camp mate, very Misty but very atmospheric, good video mate, I enjoyed watching, all the best 👍
Thanks Gaz. Thought I'd replied to this comment! Sorry mate - I can't keep up. Was a lovely camp this one. Moody and atmospheric and some great views. Really memorable. Hope all is well with you mate. Ben
Hi Ben watched hardys and James and Marys video and all of you are sooooo inspiring to us to all of thank you for sharing just brilliant 😁👍😊
Ah thanks Em. Glad you enjoyed it. Take care - Ben
Been away from all social media and RUclips for quite a while but back now and had to visit your page first. Wonderful video mate. Not sure why you have 2 thumbs down...what is wrong with some people?! Brilliant job dude!
Hello Paul. Many thanks for watching this little adventure. Was good fun and I enjoyed putting the video together. I will be returning to the Peaks in a couple of weeks for a similar outing but a bit higher up... I appreciate your comments. ATB - Ben👍
Great video
Thanks Simon!
Good videos some spectacular views! So the weather finally caught up with you? Liked the railway ending as well I was train mad when I was a child. 😀
Many thanks for watching Derek. I hope all is well with you. Ben
This video makes me realise how much I’ve been slacking off and how much I want to get back out there!
Go for it Dave. You won’t regret it!
Enjoyed that, Ben! Nice to see you out with youtube buddies. And i totally agree with you on the sound of rain. I want one of those temp gauge! Good on you for inspiring Londoners to go camping and showing that it can be done. 👌🏼 Mari
Thanks Mari. That thermometer was a just a cheapy ebay purchase. :-)
Very scenic. Would be lovely in the spring . Another winning video
Never heard a red grouse before - what an amazing voice! The Peak District looks very beautiful.
A lovely area. Would love to return at some point. Thanks for watching.
New to the channel but liking it. I live in Sheffield so lucky to have the peaks on my doorstep 🙂👍 its great that you get out and about in your vids.
Thanks for that Paul and a warm welcome to the channel! Really hoping to get back up to the Peaks in 2020. Thanks for watching. 👍🎄Ben
Also, have you ever considered doing a live show? personally I'd think it would be awesome. You thoughts?
Thanks for the idea. I've considered it for sure. Just haven't got around to it just yet. I may do a live video when the channel gets to 1K. Thanks for watching and your recent comments. Welcome to the channel! ATB - Ben
sorry about the weather, but loved that rain dropping sounds on the tent! enjoyed watching!❤
Many thanks for watching and commenting Becca👍 Yes, can’t beat the rain on a tent! ATB - Ben
Well done Ben! what bird was that talking to you?
:-) *
Thank you for watching! It was a red grouse.
Shame about the weather, but lovely view over Ladybower in the morning. Have to agree, love the sound of rain on the tent.
Yes, can't beat that rain! Many thanks for watching Bigears! Ben
Yep agree cup of tea- a belly full of grub and a batton down the hatches tent rain sounds brilliant 👏❤️😁xx
Thanks for watching Louise and commenting. Much appreciated!
How do Ben and great video mate. I've been re-watching your Alpkit Tetri videos as I'm thinking of getting one for winter usage (if Alpkit have a summer sale on). Despite the weight of the tent, are there any other downsides to it that I should be aware of? More importantly, how's its wind performance? I suspect that it's quite good?
It’s a good solid tent Steve. Very reliable and good in wind. Pretty roomy but you lose the head height as it’s a tunnel tent. Vestibule is good to cook in. From memory, it had a two-way zip which is great. Not the lightest at 2.9kg but trade-offs and all that. Should have said as I just sold mine! Could have done you a deal! Cheers - Ben
@@benhikescamps Hey Ben, if this is not too much of an intrusive question; What was the reason why you got rid of the tent?
Hi Steve. I found I just wasn’t using it. My Helm Compact 1 is my go-to bad weather tent really. At nearly 3kg too it’s not really ideal for my hiking needs.
Looked like You Londoners had a nice outdoor adventure! Great morning view!
Many thanks Mattias. Yes, a lovely view in the morning! ATB - Ben
Glad you enjoyed it - Brecon Beacons in 2020?!
Definitely mate!
:-) Loved this *Highlights for me*rain on tarps sound*Misty morning views*Best of the all-the sound of the bird*Wow! I have never heard any thing like. Was it a female grouse? Sending best wishes &thanks as always for taking the time to share*
Hi Nseight. Thanks for watching and commenting as always. Yes, the rather annoying bird is a red grouse! Such a peculiar sound. Haha! ATB - Ben
Brilliant mate, can’t wait for the next one.
Thanks mate. Great camping with you!
Great vid mate, goes to show what you can fit into a weekend if you’re willing to! 👍🏼 is that tent a two man from Alpkit? Love their stuff! Nice one mate,
Ash
Hi Ash. Many thanks for watching. The tent is the Alpkit Tetri two-person tent. I've been quite impressed with it so far. ATB - Ben
Londoner Outdoors looks a decent size! You’re welcome mate. Look forward to the next one 👍🏼
Ben, I do envy your moorland as the Tararua Ranges east of us in Levin are covered in thick bush until about 800 meters of elevation. One has to go to the South Island to hike in a bush free environment.
Thanks, Ben .
Shame about the weather
It was quite atmospheric. Suddenly seeing the view in the morning was breathtaking. ATB - Ben
Stuck on the sofa with man flu this weekend, but this has cheered me up no end Ben. Lovely moody inversions and that Red Grouse is hilarious - it seems to have an Italian accent! Like it’s saying ‘Prego! Prego! Prego!’ (‘You’re Welcome) 😅. Thanks for sharing. Rich.
I hope your man flu has cleared up Rich. I do agree with you that the grouse does sound a bit Italian! Many thanks for watching. ATB - Ben
Really good video Sir. The Tetri looks pretty stable, heavier yes, but with more guylines than say the Terra Nova Voyager........which is a good thing. Also a fraction of the price. Get up to Scotland, you’ll love it👍👍👍
Many thanks for watching and commenting! So far so good with the Tetri. ATB - Ben
I'm curious about the rock walls at the beginning of this video. would you know the history of when and how also built them. Im most curious of the age..so much history where you live. One day soon I plan to visit and do a lot of walking. Have a great day
Hi Jeffrey. I'm afraid I don't know too much about those walls. Apologies!
The pleasure was ours dude, was such an enjoyable camp, I think the weather etc just added to the experience... Cheers for involving us, and for keeping the unflattering footage to a minimum lol atb James & Mary... Bella is a dog and as such only watched the parts with the bird calls in, and a vague indifference to the rest lol
Hahaha!! Cheers James. Great meeting you and Mary - AND Bella.
Nice one, shame about the cloudy views but you just can't predict cloud cover in the peak district. Did you notice any streams or rockpools or hear any underground sources up their at all? Never been up this section and saves carrying water if you can make your own. Map is showing a small stream further on at the pillars just above heatherdene car park. Did you access from north or south though?
Hi Andy. Sorry for the late reply. We didn't see any water sources in this part, apart from a bit of a stream at the bottom near the town of Bamford (where we climbed up from). Have just invested in a Sawyer Mini filter. Hasn't even made it out of the packet yet. Looking forward to trying it out though. ATB - Ben
Great video Ben - really enjoyed this. Loved the red grouse that joined you for brekkie. Glad you all had a great camp. ATB
Many thanks Hambo! The grouse made it! 👍
Also I think you’re right about needing the extra space in winter, particularly when managing wet gear
Agreed!👍
That Grouse looked to be almost tame the way it came so close and what a strange noise it made Brilliant, Looked a Great camp, ATB, Les.
Many thanks Les. Yes a funny bird!!
I bet it's not 14kg now. Thanks for the video . atb
Many thanks for watching. ATB.
Love the sound of rain on a tent ...long as it's not for days on end!.....
Very true Chris. Many thanks for watching mate.
Fantastic Ben. I throughly enjoyed watching your vid👍
Hi Matt. Many thanks mate. Hope all is well. Ben
