I just bought a 1m second hand, and WOW!WHAT A SOUND! And the free plugout is INSANE! Sounds kinda like my moog sub 37, but Different in a GREAT way. Its so small, its easy to UNDERESTIMATE,but belive me,its a great and cheap synth. 6:40 am and im finally in bed 😂i couldnt stop playing with it.
@@ldxyz-s1e no. There is no chorus on the System-1, and I didn't use any external effects. Watch this video to see how to make a chorus-like sound wothout using a chorus ruclips.net/video/7Be30T1mEN0/видео.html
Yes. It is a 1:1 controller for Roland's plug-out VSTs, but every knob sends MIDI CC, so it can be used to control anything that uses MIDI. You just need to assign each knob to a control in your DAW or VST. This process will differ slightly for each DAW and VST, so check with the software that you are using to see how to assign MIDI control.
Thanks for sharing this video. That pad sound alone revitalized my hope in the system 1. Ive had it for about a year now and I have been looking around as i thought I was having an issue with the filter, but I forgot that 2 Osc not synced will phase and it was clipping during my twist of the filter knob and I thought it was the filter for a while. So that turned me off but I realized, duh what the problem was and Ive been having a hard time putting it back down ever since. For what you can get it for I'd say with the sh101 its a steal and much better than the microkorg in convincing analog. Sure it doesn't have a vocoder but it does have all hands on control which is more important for an analog modeling synth.
If I sign up for Roland Cloud for month, download a plugin to my System-1 machine, and then cancel my Roland Cloud subscription, do you think the Plug-Out button will stop working eventually? I've read that these days you have to periodically verify that you're authorized to use their plugins, but I can't see how they'd ever know on physical hardware like this. Do you think that only applies to VST use?
Once loaded into a System-1, there is no need to reconnect to the computer. However, I haven't loaded from Roland Cloud yet - I got the plugouts before Roland Cloud existed. I doubt that they would add something like that, but I can't confirm one way or the other.
@@JacobWatters1 Thanks for taking the time to reply, and thanks for the System-1 videos! This is my first synth like this, and you've already helped me learn a lot. The one about the Juno string pad was top notch!
@@fraaaaaaaaay awesome! I am glad that the videos were of use to you. Let me know if you have anybother questions. Good luck with exploring the synth. It has become the most used synth in my studio, and Inplan on getting a System-8 soon.
Hi its a great synth However there is one thing i cant figure out and isnt clear in the manual. When youve made a sound in manual or edited a preset patch how do you save it in a bank and find it later? Thank you so much if you bothered to answer:)
It such an impressive synth, and the 101 plug-out sounds bang on to the original... Having owned the original SH101 for some 9 years and knowing this synth inside out... trust me, it's good :) and the plug-out doesn't drift out of tune :)
hey! Great video and great sounds! I'm in the process of deciding wether i get the system 1 or system 1 modular. Missing the scattering/arp function with s 1m is very bad. Do you think the scattering function can be replaced by...let's say an external arp, like the one in the Arturia keystep? I know it won't be exactly the same, but similar. i just love the arp sound. Another question; do you know about any issues regarding ableton and win 7 using the sh 101 plug outs? Does it work properly? Thanks a lot from germany, another BoC fan here :)
You can use an external arp to control the SYSTEM-1m. However, most arps do not have the Scatter function, which is really cool. The one that would be best for you comes down to how you plan to use it. Do you play a lot of arps and want something for live tweaking, or would you prefer the sound design flexibility of a semimodular synth?
+Jacob Watters thanks for your answer. i decided to buy the system 1, non modular. I got it used for a fair price. I' d still like to test the modular...but yeha. it costs more and i'm not sure if i can use it...except for super abstract patches or...and thats very cool; route some kind of drum machine through the filters.
nicos808 It is a four voice polysynth with two oscillators per voice. It is the SH-101 PlugOut that is monophonic. Watch around 2:55 to hear me play some chords.
That is a matter of both personal preference and what you will be using it for. I use Ableton Live because I do a mix of performing and producing. I it easy to go back and forth between session and timeline mode in Live.
MrBoxxed It depends on your current setup and how you intended to use it. Having the keyboard is great for both using it as a controller in the studio and for live performances. The arpeggiator and scatter knob on the System-1 are also handy for playing live. If you have other modular gear, or really want a good all-in-one module to get started, then the System-1M is a good choice. In the end, I will probably end up owning both :)
MrBoxxed Yes. I think that the SQ-1 has a V/octave output. You could use that to sequence the System-1M. If you are going the modular route, then that should work very well. I am glad that I have delayed getting into modular because the System-1M is a perfect starting point.
Cool Video you ve made!By the way,did anyone ever told you, that your voice sounds like the old Techno Artist Green Velvet?Listen to the Track Flash and then your video here😂🖒
Jacob Watters I've been interested in getting a decent analog synth for a while, but now I'm on the fence between that and the electribe2S, when it comes out. You have definitely not made my choice any easier, since I was already leaning towards the electribe, and now I'm back to the middle. Thank you for he very informative video.

Hi, great video!! where can i get the t-shirt? cheers :)
Rob Martinez Thanks. I got the t-shirt from Roland. I don't think that they sell them, but they should.
Great, yeah they should, thanks for answer mate, I appreciate it. Cheers
What settings, if you remember, did you use to make it sound like a Roland Juno?
Here is a walk through of the various settings: ruclips.net/video/7Be30T1mEN0/видео.html

Can I save things I play on the system-1 like a bank or something?
Yes. There are 8 banks with 8 patches per bank.
