      The victim needs to be 'given' restitution by the Judge in the criminal case so the victims don't have to sue in civil court$. at their expense!!! and ya can't get blood out of a ROCK so garnish the perp's income and his parents too

      No it's fear of the wife beater, with his large extended inbred family, from which someone will bail him out. After which he'll retaliate by killing her. That's the most likely reason shes hasn't pressed charges. Again, I like this judge. It sickens me that these repeat offenders of DV, when they get 90 days in the county lock up for putting their partner in the hospital with severe injuries. They should be charged with attempted murder!

      You are brainwashed by the system into believing the establishments lock them up and throw the key away brigade.
      It's easy to be tough when you're in power, it's far more difficult to be compassionate.
      It didn't take any bravery on the judges part to mess up the plea agreement.
      Those are made after careful consideration by both parties and a judge on a power trip makes an instant decision to wreck this man life.
      Let's talk facts, the US has the harshest sentences in the Western world ( Google it)
      and the worst crime rates.
      Prison isn't always the answer, although it does win votes from people who are gullible to exploitation from the tough on crime mob.

      She’s not fair in every case. She’s human like everyone else. By that definition she can’t be fair. Not to mention she’s not a therapist, she’s a judge. We don’t make laws that judge feelings. We make rules if you break them you pay the price.

    Just for the record, the judge did not sentence the 17-year-old to 10 years. She sentenced him to two five-year terms to run concurrently. That means they will be served at the same time, or five years total.

    I like that Judge Boyd tries to end with something encouraging, telling the last guy that he can get his GED and take college level courses for self improvement.
    It seems to me like this Judge should be doing much bigger things in life. I think I would be thrilled to see her on the Supreme Court.

    We need judges like this on our supreme Court. She upholds the law. And I would like to thank her from the bottom of my heart. God bless she continues to stay in her profession.     Concurrent means sentence runs together, so he has to serve 5 yrs, if they were consecutive he would’ve had to serve 10 years. His sentences are concurrent

    Retitle, he got two 5 year sentences running concurrent.. So basically, he will be out in 2 years w time already served. And the two sentences were concurrent.

    Fives years because of concurrence. I like this judge, a lot!
    I got in trouble and spent a couple days in the local jail, just four cells at the police department. One thing I was told was to show respect to the judge; yes, you're honor, no, your honor. I did so, was put on probation and released. As I walked out of the court room I got "yes, you're honor, no, your honor" from criminals waiting their turn before the judge. My only thoughts were "that's exactly right, I'm out of here and will never be coming back" and "you're all so stupid, you're in and out of here for life".

    I know a guy that went to prison for drug dealing, vowed he would change his life, took college courses got out, put it to use and has done very well! It can be done, but you have to want it!

    Understanding what you did is far different than being accountable for your crime. This judge is way tougher than the wimpy prosecutor. I gather that is the prosecutor who is standing there with his head hanging down in shame. Judge took the time to actually review the file and ask relevant questions.

    The 17 year old got FIVE years, two sentences of 5 years were CONCURRENT, not cumulative.
    The pregnant wife basher got six years, and a whole lot of behavioral controls.

    I love this judge. I wish we had more like her. And since we don't that's what's wrong with the young people of our country today. None of them are held accountable. Today in most cases if there was an agreement even from the dependent they let the guilty person go with a slap on their hand. 99% of the time that person will go back and reoffend. So I love this judge God bless her

    This judge is at least respectful in her language to others. Hard judge but I could live with it. We need nice judges 😊

    Can I just say that Judge Boyd is a delight apart from her wisdom and common sense. I've watched a number of her cases and she always displays fresh flowers in the courtroom. Plus, so far, I've never seen her with the same handbag twice. 🙂 She always creates an inspiring hope-filled "still life" in the background of her courtroom..

      But not sure "hitting on a pregnant woman" is a correct legal term. "Assault" and " battery" come to mind. Sounded like he was trying to pick up the woman in a bar.

      I find that it's actually really rare (from what I've seen) for judges to carry what most people think of as "conservative" or "progressive" politics into being a judge when it comes to criminal matters. I've seen both conservative and progressive judges show a lot of compassion. I've seen both get angry about police corruption and misconduct. I've seen both reject plea deals and give harsh sentences to people who they think are getting off light.

    The title is wrong .his sentences are concurrent which means they run together so he's only having to serve 5 years

      Nope, the title is accurate. It doesn’t state how much time he will serve, it states how much time he was SENTENCED to. It’s irrelevant that the sentences are concurrent, time served is not time sentenced to.

      @@anthonynardella8907 you missed the point, the time sentenced to is NOT the same as the time served!! Whether it’s concurrent or consecutive, he was still sentenced to 10 years!! Two 5 year sentences served concurrently is just another way to say it!! It’s not that hard!!

    she's firm, but seems like she's fair.
    and she definitely isn't wishy washy.
    not the kind of judge you want to end up in front of if youre looking for an easy ride.
    we could use more like her.

    Judge Boyd seems to be the only judge that sits below everyone else.
    I hate how some of the defendants like this stare down their nose at her.
    Why doesn’t she have a normal heigh bench?

    The order in the first case should have included no contact with his children. Anyone so out-of-control that they would hit their pregnant partner cannot be trusted with care of their child.

    We all going to over look the fact that he is 17 with 2 children under the age of 2?? Where are his parents and why are they letting him run around like a crazy man??

    The 17 year old actually only got 5 years. The sentences ran concurrently...he will do atleast half that since its an aggravated case.
