Love the Tahoe series!! Im sure you are already planning on it but would definitely like to know how all the newness works out. Particularly interested in the steering box as well as all the associated upgrades. 👍👍
Thanks so much dude! This thing drives better than I had even hoped... Yes I'll do a video after a few hundred miles but spoiler alert... So many things combined make a great driving experience. New rag joint, steering box, pitman, idler and the much better ball joints in the tie rods of that silly strong kryptonite stuff make it feel way more modern than I thought. On your amazingly clean and low mileage Burb, I'll bet your steering box (if it's not leaking like mine was) is probably fine with just an adjustment on the preload screw and a refresh of some of the other things would work wonders!
3/4 ton brake calipers and pads from the same body style fit on k1500 trucks They were used on police package Tahoes They have bigger pistons and larger pads. A cheap and easy factory upgrade
Master cylinder is easy. Wait 'till you replace that booster. You need to be a triple-jointed contortionist. And that's after you take out the driver's seat. Always appreciate your tips and stuff. Keep'em coming!
I bought a 97 4 door Yukon 4 door 4x4 from my brother with 250k on the clock and I had a vision, and its the exact same thing youre doing with yours and I LOVE it! Its so nice seeing what a stock truck looks like with 35s, and you putting on the Kryptonite steering has me convinced! I am looking to build a camping/mild tow/adventure rig that will hold up to being driven on the street once or twice a week since I have a work truck with every tool I need (EQUIPMENT MECHANIC LIFE!) I watched the whole series, and am wanting more! Keep it up, brother!
Love the video, It's about time the gmt400 trucks get some attention. On the k2500 side you can swap on the dually calipers wheel cylinder and consumables and it's a huge upgrade. between that and the z36 pads, my 94 burb stops unbelievably well. Cost wise, it's only about 150 buck more than a regular full brake job and you've replaced items that are prone to failure anyway.
Hey Jason, Thanks for the awesome content! You inspired me to pick up a 2000 Z-71 (OBS) Tahoe and did a bunch of upgrades / maintenance. The Tahoe only had 69k Miles and was TOO NICE to wheel, so I sold it and am now getting ready for "Tahoe II", a 1999 super clean, high miles 4WD. I plan on "AUTOEDITing" this Tahoe, same as yours (except 33's)... Thanks again for the ideas and how to info!
I would like to say thank you I have the exact same ride with 289000 plus miles and your videos have helped me tremendously to see what my blue girl will look like with the bumpers and the upgrades that you have done once again thank you
I Have a 97 2 door Yukon starting restoration. This decision is completely inspired by this series. Thanks so much. Oh I also have a 2011 Rubicon and done some of the upgrades from this channel. Please keep going.
My boy Jason.. I truly miss your Jeep videos.. but I just miss seeing you and Pinto. Glad your wrenching again. I’ve had my motive bleeder for 2 years now. Used on 3 vehicles, great device.
You're awesome brother. I have a 96 Tahoe LT. Since your last video with the Kryptonite Death Grip I was already sold. So upgrade are on the way. Now you mentioned Eric the car guy that I also followed. Nice. Now I'm planning on upgrading everything on heavy duty parts that will last. Sorry Moog but your parts are not making it. Lol. Brother, thanks.
nice video series! One difference--Here in the Midwest--we use anti-seize ( Permatex copper) in lieu of Loctite...after one winter in Chicago---they corrode and stay on fine...lol
Looks good. From my years at Russell I will keep an eye on your front brake hoses where you have the zip ties. I have seen a number of GMT 400 houses zip tied to the a arms that have failed. It generally occurred when somebody bought a universal braided hose and adapted it. Personally I would like to see a shorter hose on your vehicle and no zip ties.
Always enjoy your content. I've been watching since the Jeep Grand Cherokee days and the dirt road drive from Vegas to LA. Hope all is well and stay strong.
Pro tip on these 90s gm trucks with abs if the pedal is being a little weird and you have a abs light after running a part of the system dry get it all bled and done then when you see you have a problem you have to give the brake pedal a quick hard jab to re- center the proportioning valve inside the abs and that will accomplish it
I wish my brakes went on that easy. Conversion brakes are not fun, at least not for the first time doing it. I’m liking how your set up is coming a long. I may have to copy some of the things you’re doing
I tell you what Boulder, I've seen the Motive brake bleeder before but never seen anyone using it. Also, I learned from the video nothing because I was looking at your shirt.
Glad you like that shirt and at first I thought there was an auto correct with Boulder and then I remembered it's my new nick name... and kind of liked it...lol
Jason, did you ever consider (or research) the GMT800 spindle swap? Using the early (00-02) parts gets you the newer dual piston caliper and a slightly larger rotor. I believe the only modifications required are reaming one of the ball joints and flipping the tie rod. It also opens the world of the GMT800 aftermarket big brake kits.
I didn't know about this and it sounds like a great upgrade. I've been very happy with the performance of the brakes on this thing so far and don't really feel it needs that. Just doing a disc conversion in the rear is the next real thought for me.
@AutoEdits I just picked up a '00 Z71 Tahoe. It needs some work on the brakes, so I'm probably going to do all of the brake lines, hard lines included. Before I spend the money on the powers top kit I'm trying to see if the 800 upgrade is truly worth it.
I found that no matter what I did, how many parts and money I threw at these older vacuum assist trucks, the performance was awful, after alot of pain an agony, replaced it with hydroboost...hands down the only way to increase performance on these old systems
I totally get where you're coming from but this refresh worked phenomenal. The Tahoe drives amazing and stops like a modern car and the pedal feels perfect.
Those pressure bleeders are nice. I have had decent luck using a mighty vac, but it can be a little temperamental if you cant get a good seal on the bleeder nipple. Which you dont have to worry about on the pressure style.
Just for the extra work on the links to other videos and taking the time to do the break line cut for the camera on the back line.. I'm a subscriber.. I own a 88 gmt400 so I'll be sticking around
Great video Jason! Thank you for it. I know this is an older one, but I was wondering if will there be anymore on the Tahoe? I know you had mentioned on a newer video that you might be getting rid of it.
I ended up selling the Tahoe to a young dude near me just a week or so ago. Sorry about having to let that one go but there are other things happening that might be fun.
@@AutoEdits Funny, I bought a 3rd Gen because of your video a while back, bought an obs a short time later only to find you on RUclips again with….an obs. 😂
Hey Jason. I bought the extended hoses. My rear line does not fit. It looks like you may have used a flare reducer to make it fit. Is this the case? And will it affect performance
Howdy, I don't remember if that little adapter to make the line fit came with the kit or not... let me re-check what I purchased for that. Either way, the performance with that in place is exactly the same.
I know this video is old, but I just bought a 1999 Chevy Tahoe, it’s almost Mint! But the steering is crap, did this help the play, because I was also looking at the Borguason quick steer gear box.
Yo, Kriptonite says they do not make an Upper Control Arm for the GMT 400 (k2500 suburban specifically) and Cognito says they do not either...you got any leads or ideas, or leave it?
This being a 1995 it probably does not have an automated bleed procedure. You can force out air from the ABS block by stopping hard on a loose surface and having the abs activate.
Hello...I had a quick question about these rotors- are they the stock diameter size-12"? Or are they 13"? I was looking to get more contact surface. Please let me know. Thanks

It’s literally 4 nuts with nothing in the way and a pin. The hard part is picking the thing up because I only have one arm. Smh

What are the blue lines to the brake area? New ABS cables?
Yep
It was my understanding you need a scan tool to get the ABS module properly air free.
