As a Korean, I of course agree that IU's current discography is a masterpiece. However, considering that she was only a middle school student when she debuted, I think it's a right thing that her early music had a cute style appropriate for that age group. There is music that only girls of that age can do, and IU herself may have wanted to sound more adult, but the company seems to have prioritized the fact that she is a middle-high school girl. And that fact, commercially, was exactly what helped her earn the title of national little sister in Korea.
Still can't believe, and I will NEVER forget how she started. People called her ugly, pig and many other things live on TV after her debut performance, and 16 years later she's the Queen of Kpop. She came from nowhere, her family was poor as hell, most people thought she can't sing and didn't care about her, because she's not an Idol group member, but 2 years after her debut she became massive. In Korea no one is bigger than her, not even BTS, so her journey as an artist is really something else. IU and BoA are basically the Queen and Empress of Kpop.
@@AvesPasseri-Jinysvet Well is no secret they all regrated it, at that time in Kpop they were looking for flashy even if without substance. When she went to one of the many failed auditions, they asked what she prepared and she answered a song, they expected to have dances and more songs, but IU was very sure of her singing. And not be resentful of the boy groups, a lot of teenager back then only had eyes and no ears. Same can be said of girl groups but, it seems to me more exasperating with boy groups.
really enjoyed listening to your discussion. Through the Night is arguably her most famous and loved song (sounds like not on your list), and there are just so many others as well. You could do multiple more programs and not lack for great content. She's produced all of her albums since that 2015 Chat-shire album, and she's composed many of the songs you are reviewing (like Palette, Blueming, etc) - and writes all the lyrics...which are amazing. As others are also commenting, her live performances are on another level.
Just 2 days ago I watched the actress from 'Only I Didn't Know' co-starring in the award winning 2023 movie 'Concrete Utopia', which then inspired IU to contract the director to make 'Love Wins All'. Its all connected.
Apologies but just in case, you may interested in the fact that IU herself stated she wants to be remembered for “Heart" “Knees” and “Through The Night” that was her answer when asked by Suga during BTS Suga’s show, Suchwita. just saying
Thanks for this series. Honestly to deep dive into IU would take more than 2 parts, I mean just composed by her 70 songs and a total discography of 180 something. Nominated to 321 awards and wining 134. She is is the idol of idols. Live performances sometimes considered better than the studio. She can sing any genre and her lyrics, when she wants are so deep, you would be trapped in a web of emotions you will cry and laugh but come out feeling healed. She had it rough growing up as her family went into bankrupt she ended up in one infested room with her grandma and little brother eating potatoes while auditing many many times trying to be a singer. The debut song is Mia (lost child) which is dark for a 15 year old, so the agency switched to a girly image, that clicked on as within months she would become a phenomenon. Funny IU would later reveal she did not like that girly image to much as IU has always been way more mature than her age. Even after been on the very top life decide to keep hurting her with painful loses. So enjoy IU the actress, the singer, the philanthropist, the loyal friend and the stubborn composer I'm UAENA for life. I disagree about the IU magic, she had it from start, it's just it more sparse at the beginning, at age 18 she wrote hold me hand a live performance is here and it won't be blocked ruclips.net/video/3iM_06QeZi8/видео.html that's the joyful magic and the fully fledge magic can be appreciated here ruclips.net/video/wKzhZkeBirs/видео.html. Anyway to me not knowing about IU is a lost for the west.
The bird in Good Day Macaw Blocked IU😆 Seriously Good Day was the song that lifted her to superstardom in Korea - There's a reason she has the most no. 1 songs in Kpop history, even more than BTS.
most of her gems are in b-sides or doesn't have MV like Love Poem, My sea, Hold my hand you missed Friday (Modern Times), Through the night, Cant Love you Anymore, Ending Scene (Palette) its A CRIME!! 🥲 anyway i enjoyed your reaction! looking forward to part 2!
Sorry to disappoint you guys but she graduated Good Day and Palette in her concert set list, she announced it in her Golden Hour concert so 2022 was the last “official” stage for those 2 songs but you can request it during encore were she sings a whole song or verse of fans requested songs
Well, considering she wasn't doing the 3 high notes at the end of the song for a number of years (just too much of a strain on her voice), I'm not surprised by Good Day - but surprised that she's retiring Palette.
Lost Child mv was telling the Greek tale of Orpheus and Euridice, with IU playing Orpheus. 16 years later the group NewJeans did a mv of Cupid and Psyche.
I love that you guys did this and I really love that the end result is you all have a deeper love and appreciation for IU and her music, but as someone who loves her more than anything and knows just about everything there is to know about her, it's soooo frustrating to watch. No offense, and again, I mean no disrespect cause you do all end up liking her more, but I think this happens a lot when people do deep dives into her work without much knowledge of her previously. I think it would have been a good idea to either do extensive research before this deep dive or to have someone in the chat or reacting with you who is somewhat of an "expert" on her career. Just to make up for a lot of the missing or wrong information, and to help with the playlist since you guys did miss a lot of MVs. Like really iconic staples in her catalogue that should not have been missed. All that being said, I thank you again for doing this. As a Uaena forever, it's always my favorite thing seeing people get more exposure, and in turn, more appreciation for her. I'll be watching part 2 next, and trying not to pull my hair out. Haha. Would have been so much better if I could have been that expert in the live chat.
Thanks for the feedback. I understand your frustration however I do want to clarify, we don't really do these series as "experts", generally speaking we are learning as we go and relying on comments and live chatters to help guide us in the right direction. Doing extensive research before doing these streams defeats the purpose of doing them live, as we're not trying to be "the ultimate IU guide video", more so a gateway for more of our multi-stan/casual audience to get to know her better with us. There will be additional days where we catch up and circle back to things we miss as well as take submissions, as there are with every group/artist we have covered thus far! Again appreciate the feedback and thanks for sticking through the video haha -Alex
I hope you all have the opportunity to explore Akmu. And the important fact is that they produce all their own songs. And it is also the main part in thinking about the song concept. ♥♥
I always admired IU she's my favourite Korean actress and k-pop idol. She's really the impress person super talented and stunning lovely beauty pretty cute 😍 ❤
The contrast in the concept from her debut EP Lost Child to Boo cutesy concept is because her debut song was not well accepted by the public since it's too heavy and at that time, iirc, cute concepts are far more popular hence the change in concept as decided by her company.
I don't know the criteria for the list. Is it only active songs or only songs you like? Part 1 of this video covers approximately 10 years of activity, but there are some that are not IU songs and many songs that were active, including the title, were skipped.
Let us know what songs we missed! As for criteria, we usually try to watch each of the title tracks' MVs in order of their career and add extra videos if they are personal faves. However for more of the OG artists like IU I've found it harder to get that information clearly (especially considering when companies started migrating to RUclips) so there's bound to be mistakes or songs we missed and that's just human error. To avoid that, we try to post the playlist beforehand on our community channel and in our discord server for corrections/comments but not everyone catches what is missed. -therese
@@AudioAddictionmedia I don't have that much free time, and if you have fingers, anyone can search and find something like wiki or something like that. There's a list on RUclips too... even though it's crappy...
I really enjoyed part 1 of this IU journey i will surely join for part 2 but a lot of songs were missing from this list I think you guys only included title songs of albums maybe. Apart from mv there are many songs which have special performance clip ( especially for those songs which don't have mv like zeze, sleepless rainy nights, shower, kneesetc). Mvs from her covers songs albums i think there is still so much stuff specially her b sides will be awesome for this list. Will be waiting for more reactions.
Part 3 should be live perf. from Concerts and Palette. Black Out Last night Story , Hold my Hand, Blueming, Jam Jam , Eight, Shopper, I stan U and its already 8 songs, add to that few from Palette and we have part 3.
this is a great reaction but why did u miss some mvs? u missed friday 2013, my old story in 2014 and ending scene and through the night and last night story in 2017 ( there is a mv for can t love u anymore in 2017 too but that isnt really an mv)
IU's live performances is a must 💜
The LYRICISM of IU on another level💜
thx for reacting to our IU, can't wait to join the IU deep dive part 2

IU is incredible!!!
Were they blind? Even during her debut as a child really, she was beautiful.

She performed Palette (acoustic ver) as a full in Berlin 3weeks ago. Was a encore though
Palette is her unofficial song on hereh concert at this point.. She sing it on more than 20 times as en encore song 😂😂
You can perform the good day as fan event before the en encore. Hahahahha
Can you react to Philippine Fan event during IU's concert in Manila? 😂😂

IU was my gateway into Kpop after watching my very first Kdrama which just happened to be Hotel del Luna.
Lost Child mv was telling the Greek tale of Orpheus and Euridice, with IU playing Orpheus. 16 years later the group NewJeans did a mv of Cupid and Psyche.
