You Anthony Fantano looks exactly like theneedledrop
Oh my god I just now realized this...
Not really tbh
Dude and they both look like melon
I honestly camt tell if your joking
He sort of resembles Cal Chuchesta but I doubt that they even know each other.
Pop for people who think they're too edgy to listen to pop
Ramsey Brown perfect way to describe it! And I'm guilty because I hate and despise pop music yet I found myself really enjoying this album lol.
True
Ramsey Brown fucking exactly holy shit so many edgy people in my school like this.
Creative Dude FUCKBOIIIIII
I listen to a lot of rock, punk and alternative music but I also love some pop music here and there. It depends on if I like the song of not
I feel like 21 Pilots is music for teenagers who want to say they don't like pop while still listening to pop.
+Jazzy Jackson thanks for taking the time to type that comment.
Jazzy Jackson nah its 21P
grayd98 ok well first of all u write it out not put the number 21 and u put a line through the Ø and they have best band in the world award 3 years running and best album 2 years running and and in the top 5 list for most streamed artists around the world so I don't think a bunch of 14 year olds can do that.
Actually they can. Most adults with jobs don't have time to ravenously follow musicians. So most popular musicians are more popular with 14 year olds.
I listen to them because they help me. Many others listen to them for that reason too.
I'm a huge fan of tøp. heck, I even have their symbol as my profile picture. I don't get why people are offended at this video. so what, he has an opinion. sorry his opinion isnt the same as yours. I personally love blurryface but he is allowed to have his opinion and I'm not gonna bash him because he doesn't agree with me and that he doesn't like the same music as me

"Blandly written pop music for people who have just a touch of ADD". Wow Anthony Fireytano . Harsh words to fans of this album, but i understand what you're talking about. I still enjoyed the album.
He was entirely fair I think
Muriuki Hello again :D
BillyBob Thorton Oh so insulting a fans just because of their different taste in music is fair? okay then mate, GG.
Muriuki well... he's not a fan of the album... it's not that big of a deal, he probably likes things you don't like too, people like different things, in the end it doesn't really matter, it's just his opinion, just like your opinion is that it's good.
Jack Smith simply disliking an album is not insulting anyone, he can't like everything, if it really offends you that much you need to grow up.
no pun intended but people are so polarized when it comes to twenty one pilots. you either have crazy fanatics who demand everyone else like them and shame those who don't, and then you have angry bitter people who legitimately hate their guts and want them and their fans to die. can both sides just fucking chill

theneedledrop nope I though their first single was catchy though. #calmixtapewhen
I loved this album and I respect Anthony's opinion but I think it's funny that he, yet again, criticized an album on some the bands main intentions and goals. Saying they were mistakes when they were actually thought out decisions done purposely. But other than that his opinions were very valid and I understand where he's coming from. Still love the album tho ^_^
Jared Liriano The problem is that the decisions made by the band come off as being mistakes, and at that point whether or not they're actually mistakes doesn't matter anymore. It just comes together sloppily. It's like if I purposely released a record that was just an hour of me screaming, I made that decision but that doesn't mean it sounds good or makes for good music.
Jared Liriano That's cool that you dig it. I just have a problem when people say this band is so innovative and rebellious when its far from groundbreaking sound some claim it to be
Tumblr keyboard warriors are attacking
You can't keep blaming tumblr for everything you don't like homie.
No I'm saying the Tumblr community is notorious for obsessing over TWP, and they probably don't like Anthony's review which explains the massive amount of dislikes and comment hate
***** I don't see much of these guys on tumblr personally. Moreso on youtube comments.
Honestly I have never seen a post about twp on Tumblr since the release of this album, the only popular figures I see on tumblr are in political posts about Bernie, Trump and Hillary and jokes with references to popular musicians, actors and youtubers
Lenny Fitzgerald Wasn't skillet hot (buh-dum-tish) before tumblr got big?
I'm not a huge fan of 21 pilots but I do like their music but I wish their fan base would calm the fuck down, learn to respect someone else's opinion and even if you don't why does it matter you still like the album correct, so how does not everyone liking it do anything to the quality
K1LLERSK144 I agree that the clique are so defensive about TØP and if someone doesn't like them that's fine
I think the best fans are on their reddit page. They're friendly, and respect opinions. The youtube fanbase is the worst.
You 'rock' fans are just like 'grime' fans. I'm a 31yo man who likes practically every genre out there (rap, grime, pop, r&b, eurodance, house, bassline, dubstep, punk rock/alternative, reggae etc) and I love the unique Twenty One Pilots. The genres I don't like are rock/roll/metal (basically anyone you see in Rolling Stone/NME/Kerrang magazine) apart from the odd few like Prodigy, Linkin Park, Sum 41, Green Day, Blink 182. What you really mean to say is you don't like them because in your opinion they've left your shitty rock genre requirements eg. Drums that just make noise, guitars that just sound like noise, and singers that can't sing for shit.
Daniel Gardecki shut the fuck up if u like twenty one pilots shut the fuck up you don't know art. Twenty one pilots aren't a band, they're a business. A corporation. They don't write their lyrics. They put in almost no effort. It's passionless.
K1LLERSK144 Dude you probably only heard their popular songs. You must be an idiot if you say they don't write their own lyrics. Both Tyler and Josh is so talented, and they're one of the best bands in the music industry right now. I respect your opinion and you should respect others.
The opening track is fire. It may blatantly say it's not rap but it's closer to rap than anything else on the entire record. Tyler can rap. Facts. And very well too, he has a really good flow
Peanut Butter Pikachu no, they’re a rock band, tyler spits corny lines, they’re better as an indie pop band therefore trench is their best album

A lot of people said he was really rude? I mean I don't agree with him, but he wasn't rude about it idk
Red Bull They are pretty much saying that because they are just salty about giving an opinion they think is wrong. Most of their fans are like 9-12 so I guess its understandable.
I don't get it either. He's one of the most well constructed music reviewers I've come across.
i see more people basically attacking top fan than actual top fans.
You haven't dig deep enough

This record is more agressive than a lot (not all) metal albums. It's not pop, it's hardcore rock. This guy probably listens to jazz and thinks he can talk about this masterpiece. Btw metal sucks.

This is the single strangest bait I've ever seen. It will be studied by commenters years in the future.
As someone who will defend this album until the day I die...no. No it isn't.
Twenty One Pilots is is a band for people who want to believe that they have a diverse taste in music. It's funny if you ask me.
Twenty One Pilots isn't a band for people who think they have "diverse music taste", that has nothing to do with it. Twenty One Pilots is a band for people who need to realize that they aren't alone in their struggles. Twenty One Pilots is not for everyone, unfortunately. Twenty One Pilots is for the few, the proud, and the emotional.
+Jillian Smith YES YES YES
+Jillian Smith ew wtf is this comment?
+Shane Mcnealy Even though he made some good arguments about how the songs were written, it takes nothing away from how amazing they are as performers. I have never had anyone go to a Twenty One Pilots concert and return saying it was not eye-opening. And as for the diversity, you have to admit, there is nobody else out there that is doing what this duo is.
+Shane Mcnealy Or maybe they just connect with the band's music and Tyler's (in my opinion) pretty stellar lyrics?
I feel like a lot of 21P fans believe that their music is deeper and less basic than it really is.
The lyrics are not easy to understand
And the music isn't about butts or love. Not basic.
***** "oooh"
***** I never said that all songs that aren't about those things are hard to understand.. I was talking about tøp songs.
And I did not even mean it like how you understood it. The reason there is a huge gap in my comment between those things is because I was not talking about the same thing..
The first one was for "their music is deeper.."
And the second part was for "less basic.."
Geez, calling me a dumbass for making things extremely understandable and not understanding it themselves. Wow.
*****
It's spelled out (not 21, it's twenty one)
how would you know it's easy to understand if you don't even like them, you really need to use time to understand the real meaning behind the lyrics. Ok, maybe stressed out and car radio might be easy to understand but if you try to explain many other ones, I bet you just don't shortly make up a meaning to the lyrics
Basic means it's not different. Basic means it's elmental = nothing more special
Yes a lot of people listen to them
It does not mean they're basic.
They're alternative and many other genres (if they're not, please tell me all the genres they ARE).
"Basic
An adjective used to describe any person, place, activity involving obscenely obvious behavior, dress, action.
Unsophisticated.
Transparent motives."
I think people should give more thought to the Judge, it’s one of the more interesting songs on this records lyrically and production wise i’m surprised fantano shrugged it off as apple commercial music

A lot of people are arguing over the emotional and lyrical content of this band. And, if you listen to what fantano is actually saying, you'll realize he's not talking about the lyrics. He's talking about the musical content.
Musically, this album is simply a rootless clusterfuck mashup of genres. He's saying the music comes out a bit vapid because they lack identity, just like most modern pop music.
He's not saying they need to play "real instruments", or become a dub step duo, or anything of that nature. Rather, his critique is simply that the band lacks a solid identity as far as what they want their music to sound like.
And don't think that it's because he's a hipster who doesn't like pop music, it's not that at all-- if you look at his other reviews, he enjoyed Drakes previous album (before views cus it sucked), Carly Rae Jepsen, and a lot of other pop acts. It's simply that this band has no musical identity which makes listening to them feel very empty. That's it.
I don't think that's a fair criticism either because he claims that there's a common emphasis on reggae concepts, as well as a consistent "structure" to each song. At what point can anyone listen to this album and think "this band has not found their sound?" I personally don't care for them, but I think what they do is entertaining and effective. i, like anyone who bothers, can hear a twenty one pilots song and probably be able to identify it as them because of their approach to rhythm, the modulation in rhythms on the singers part, and the overall driving of the drummer. He just doesn't like it and needs to justify it, I'm just not sure he can do it effectively. I give his review a 4/10 for inconsistency lol
Agreed from someone who's been a fan since before Vessel, this is exactly what Anthony is saying, even if I don't agree.
Adele doesn't play any instruments - a voice can be as much an instrument as an instrument! Music can come from many directions, not just the one that you dictate!
His whole argument there was that they clearly strive to break out of this safe pop formula mold and do something more distinct and experimental or at least more daring, throwing reggae breakdowns and other various musical elements is like having a tease towards something different, and only meant to spice up a predictable track, they put their energy into it it just seems like they could be so much better if they broke from their agonizingly similar verse-chorus-verse pop structure bindings.
I disagree. I think their lyrics at worst are a bit immature, but I don't think they're really "bad". For instance Tear In My Heart has pretty good lyrics in my opinion; very honest, and individual.
90% of comments- THESE WHITE FAN GIRLS NEED TO CALM DOWN twenty one pilots fans are crazy
10% of comments- I like twenty one pilots, but Blurryface isn't my favourite album I agree
I honestly love 21P BUT I DIDNT DISLIKE THIS VID AND GET TRIGGERED this guy is telling us his opinion in a very good way and he is giving good points

you just completely described me wtf
bored doing boring shit same i love tøp but the clique is so cringey smh
bored doing boring shit why is this an accurate description of me?
I love the genre hop because there isn't a lot of bands like that. So it's just not forcing you to just to listen one piece of genre.
Brandon Ham Genre hopping is all well and good. But if you can't do one genre well, then doing multiple genres will end up being pretty bad. If you want good genre hopping, check out Yo La Tengo. Everything from Shoegaze to folk to bossa nova; and they do each one very well.
I might check it out / But i'm still sticking to twenty one pilots is a boss at genre hopping
***** Don't lose faith, I'm a "kid" and I love Tengo. Only a few years ago I thought Muse was the greatest thing on the planet (hahahah). As long as kids these days are willing to explore and be open minded about discovering and experiencing new genres/bands then there's hope yet.
Saggy Balls Hope - but it's falling fast. The bit-consumed age has destroyed a lot of that hope. It very hard to cut through the clutter when the mound of clutter is so large. This band just rides the clutter.
Yeah I think without the genre hop the pop layout of the lyrics, as mentioned in the video, would be harder to bear. But I definitely enjoyed the album because it is the type of album and the type of songs that could apply anytime in life really.

I am a huge TOP fan, so obviously I don't agree with most of what you have to say, but I do want to say that I was able to sit and listen to your entire review without raging over it. I have read a few other critiques of TOP in which the writers immediately poke fun at the fan base and/or Tyler and Josh themselves. So, thank you for NOT doing that during your review, it makes you come off as much more reputable. Why are so many fans getting angry? I like a lot of the band's music, but the fanbase should learn to respect other people's opinions and get on with their lives instead of wasting them online getting angry for little to no reason.
(Edit: This isn't even a good album lol)
Same.
Because a ton of their fans are unreasonable kids. Not all of them obviously, but enough to be a vocal minority making the entire Twenty One Pilots fanbase look like nutjobs. To these kids a differing opinion is an ATTACK on their own opinion, which is something most, if not all people, grow out of.

i know they don't fucking sound alike. i'm joking that death grips is absurd edgy rap for the general population and twenty one pilots is absurd edgy rap for christian middle schoolers that don't venture out into music because they are christian and in middle school
Guys, I'm like the most obsessed clique member, yet... I'm not angry, and neither should you be. Its this guys opinion , so.... Leave him alone. What if he said the same things about Justin Bieber? You probably wouldn't be offended, so CHILL. |-/
I agree with everything he said in the video, their songs are catchy and I'll play this album every now and then. But I really don't consider myself a fan of those guys, the rapping is pretty weak, they tend to contradict themselves, and try a bit too hard to be edgy. If you feel inspired by their music, that's great our opinion shouldn't take that away from you.
Everyone's saying they try too hard to be edgy (they do go over the top a bit at their shows but that comes from when they played at small a bars and wanted the people at the bar to look at them, so the live aspect has a lot to do with attention) but Tyler talks about actual mental illness I don't see how that's edgy?
+Ella God, Tyler is such a fuckboi name. I never realized it until now. I thought of Blurryface as them trying way too hard to act like Gorillaz.
Connor Price he literally made I song about his wife lol
Abby Maruri OK, I see your point. I don't agree but I understand and respect that you aren't into them.
Connor Price I don't understand what u mean by them acting like Godzilla. also it's not his fault for being named Tyler
I feel like everyone who doesn't understand that there is a backstory to this record, won't fully appreciate what this album is supposed to be about (That being the figure of Blurryface), therefore not taking it for what it is. And again people who expect this album to resemble and reminisce a lot of Vessel, will be disappointed. Because it's not suppose to have the same sound, it's a complete 180 from Vessel, still very much Twenty One Pilots, just a different stage.
Jonathan Molina Music should make me inquire into the backstory, If I'm expected to look up a backstory before I listen then they're doing it wrong.
Couldn't agree more
Jonathan Molina shouldn't the album tell the story then..?
well i mean it does if you read the lyrics and understood how Tyler writes lyrically.
***** I have. I've listened to the album about 3 times. I think lyrically they went backwards and talking all meta about your songs within said song isn't great. I could keep going but this review echoes what I think about this album and I absolutely loved the hell out of Vessel because it was very interesting to me. This album was pop under the guise of other genres.
I agree with you.I like the lyrics but some instrumentals sound a kind of cheesy... I think they should be more bold. Their colaboration with mutemath was very cool.
Augusto I get what you mean. I’m a big fan but even I’ve got to admit doubt is a bit generic and meh and cheesy (instrumentally, lyrically it’s good)
And then came Trench
Cut to three years later when he named Trench one of his favorite albums of the year
Cut to six years later when he gave S&I a 2/10
'these lyrics aren't for everyone, only few understand'
>"only a few understand"
>cliche, generic lyrics
pick one.
Jessica Hass LANA DEL REY + 21 PILOTS FANS
Sir Maldroit thats so true. this is my main youtube acc btw (:
+Jessica Hass I am the poop u cant get out :(
Message man I got you boi
Why are they called twenty one pilots? there's only two of them
The other 19 died in 2001 :(
lmao
+Has Hillary
Savage
Their name is based off a play by Arthur Miller, "All My Sons", about a man who has to decide wether or not to send faulty parts of planes for WW2 pilots in order to benefit his own business, and family. In the end he sends those parts, 21 pilots die, and the man ends up killing himself because of the guilt he felt. Yeah, pretty much because of the moral of the story.
OMG it's TOP not 21P Typer would be so ashamed
That's the thing with Twenty One Pilots, their unique sound is a mix of genres. It's not one specific sound, they have jumped all over the place since their self-titled album. Their claim to fame is that unpredictability and the lyrical content. I am not gonna sit here and say that your opinion on the album, I'm just going to respectfully disagree with you. I personally love the album and I can't wait to see what Tyler and Josh cook up next.
I would also like to point out that the album is very much telling a story of Tyler's battle with his own insecurities (Blurryface is the name he gave to those insecurities). This is why the album has that up and down feel to it, because it's meant to be a struggle. Heavydirtysoul and Stressed out are dark and brooding, and then Ride is joyous. This ebb and flow continues over the entire album and finally finishes with the stirring Goner.
***** No, it's really not.
Please listen to Gorillaz, then we'll talk. I recommend Demon Days.
where are the people complaining in the comments, all I see is people telling them to calm down.
I'll fight everyone in this comments section.
1v1 me scrub lord I'm jacked
I WILL TOO
I'LL HELP YOU TOO
Sounds cool. Can I join? Oh, wait...
SOUNDS COOL. CAN I JOIN? WHO ARE WE FIGHTING? I HOPE IT'S THE PEOPLE THAT CAN'T TAKE AN OPINION WELL. I LOVED THIS ALBUM, AND WILL STILL BE LISTENING TO IT FOR WEEKS, BUT THE DUDE HAS THE RIGHT TO AN OPINION.
Rachel Doll sounds like a great use of your summer vacation. Did you ask your parents if it was ok to get online first?
My friends keep trying to get me into this band pls send help.
Just tell your friends that you don't like them
+InfiniteMoney Hahahaha! That's funny! You should be a comedian! 😁
Why dont you try listening? If you dont like it, then dont ever listen to them again. If you do, then that's good.
DerpMCArchitects I did try listening to them and just didn't find them appealing.
The Internet It's hard to convince some top fans that it's possible to dislike the band, so I understand your pain.
I kinda agree, I didn't rlly like blurryface. But Tyler Joseph, the singer, who writes most the lyrics, said himself that blurryface was designed to be played on the radio. He said he wanted this album to specifically mimic the way mainstream-songs are written, so basically he focused more on writing songs that would appeal to the mass. And I think at this point some quality was left behind. Regional At Best and Self titled however are genius. I know this is late, but you should really review those.
Agreed, regional at best I can’t stand even as a huge TOP fan but self titled is super underrated
really? that makes scaled and icy even more inexcusable lmao
@@grey8478 what lmao… SAI is a good album
@@BoomRoasted3 it's honestly just basic pop shit that's made to play on the radio too
@@apineapple3245 cry about it… what makes SAI that but not their others album such as fucking Blurryface
please use discretion when you’re messing with the melon man
I understand his argument about the band's need to sound less like a sugar coated pop/rock group whilst they try to simultaneously burn said groups that follow that ideal. But, that's some of the genius of Twenty One Pilots. Throughout songs like Lane Boy, Stressed Out, and especially Fairly Local (For example the line, "This song will never be on the radio) Tyler really bares his insecurities as a songwriter and performer. So much of him craves the ability to have a sound that is completely new and exciting for his fans as well as his critics, but at the same time, the music business as a whole has a way of pressuring artists into fitting a cookie-cutter pop ideal. At least, that's what I got from the album.
+Shay So they could continue to have a platform to do what they love? Sometimes one has to do things they may not necessarily agree with to chase their dream. Tyler and Josh love to perform and connect with their fans, and the best way to do that is through a label. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
+Shay I guess it's just a matter of opinion. Anyway, I think it's kinda tasteless to trash on a whole fanbase by saying they don't care about the music, when in actuality, it has helped many of them through their hardest times.
+Shay Have you actually read anything on the deals between FBR and TOP? Or are you just making false assumptions like an uninformed ass? FBR didn't have to give Top a "cookie-cutter" because Top already knows who they are and what they want to be. That's why Top was signed by FBR, they were going to let TOP do what they wanted to do and perform how they wanted to perform.
The word genius should never be used when describing this band.
+Johnny Rambo Listen.. just listen to drown blaspemy or holding on to you if you can accurately tell me what tyler joseph is actually saying in these songs then i will give you a right to not call them geniuses. Their new songs are like a nerdy kid trying to whip. They're kinda good but their old songs is when the true emotions comes out.
The Emos are triggered.
I'm emo and I actually hate the sound of twenty one pilots' music. Sure their lyrics are decent but god the way they sound fucks up the amount I get into the songs
.
Sollux Captor no you are not, emo consists of the emotional hardcore scene and maybe one or two bands from midwest emo/emo revival, do your research, just because you have a fringe and go to hot topic doesn't mean you're emo, that means you're a poser
getmeoutalive321 purely because i dislike twenty one pilots means I'm not emo? alrighty then bud because that makes all the sense in the world
getmeoutalive321 oh resorting to calling me names now are we? let me ask have you ever listened to neck deep, the wonder years, the story so far, old three days grace, and/or let's say chevelle? Those are bands that are innately considered emo (not so much chevelle but whatever) despite it not being outright said in their genres. You don't get to choose if I'm something other than what I am so feel free to continue insulting me buddy
Sollux Captor you literally named three pop punk bands and two alternative rock bands, not emo. You clearly don't know what emo is, and since you don't want to understand it, i'll leave you with your ignorance then, have a nice day
This is the most positive sounding 4 I've ever heard
Blurry face isnt that good, in fact I actually only like 2 songs off this, listen to Regional At Best and you'd get why people like their music a lot this isnt their best, but I'm not here to hate so yeah.
αиαтнємα sammememememe
Don't forget their self-titled album!
Vessel is probably their last best album and honestly, I cried when their music went downhill.
no no no regional at best is their worst album! I have no doubt in my mind that tony would hate tøp even more if he listened to it
I love all their songs although I agree Regional At Best is their best album and I think it'll be hard to top.
Self Titled and Regional at Best are great in my opinion, but Blurryface is really when they went downhill. It's a shame they've become the next big victim of commercialization. They had some great stuff before they signed to a major label.
Spring Heeled I think it's mostly because fueledbyramen doesn't want them making "strange music" nowadays (the "strange music" was better in my opinion)
Yeah, another great example is The Front Bottoms, they got popular because of their grassroots, indie "strange" sounding music, and then they signed to FueledByRamen as well, and their latest album (the only one under FuledbyRamen) is a clear departure from their signature style. Funny enough The Front Bottoms started as a duo act as well :)
still garbage i think. production sucks
Hence Lane Boy.
Not a fan of the sound of Regional. Self-Titled is good though, but I just like the production on blurryface the most. I think it's their best album.
Tear in my heart sounds a lot like a song the killers would play
Wolfi Lil' bit.
yeah it really had a similar tone like brandon flowers's voice
Hmmm, never thought of that. Maybe new Killers? Idk.
Wow wow wow wtf? Stfu bitch You’re comparing my favorite band with this garbage band?
I respect your opinion but this album is fire
Fantano should revisit this album, I feel like his views on it could have changed in the past 8 years. I just gave it another listen recently, and I forgot how much I love this album. This album (and Twenty One Pilots in general) inspired an entire new generation of music, and many new artists coming into the scene are citing this band as one of their main inspirations. This album is also the first in history to have every single song certified at least Gold. I honestly prefer Trench, and think it's their magnum opus, but Blurryface is actually a really solid and iconic album that's cemented itself into history. I really wanna see Fantano do a retake on this one like he's done with other albums recently.
So much salt in the comments. Too bad Fandango was right and this album is shit. rip hot topic.
While I also dont like this album, I respect the fans of tøp for respecting other opinions. Thank you guys for understanding, and I have mad respect for you why can't everybody be like this.
ØMG WØW SOME ONE THAT DISLIKES TØP BUT ISNT TELLING US ALL TO KILL OURSELVES??????? IM SUPRISED
PokemonWalkthroughDS Yeah np man, not everyone hears things in the same way you know?
Wow, we need more people like you in the world lol. Everyone is acting like the whole clique is a bunch of disrespectful teenagers. Thank you
thank you so much!!!!!
Thank you! I’m a huge, huge fan of tøp and I️m trying so hard not to be rude to everyone else in these comments right now😂 but, if they don’t like the music that’s their problem. I️ wish I️ could fix it, but it’s pretty likely nothing will change. So why bother arguing with them?
Listen to death grips instead
totally
@Snekcharmer trench was a great album.
Death Grips is my favourite band but you can't deny that Trench was great, I mean even fantano liked it.
@Snekcharmer so... If you like top then how is it disrespectful to death grips?
Also... Remember that I'm the same guy who replied to your comment on "Is Imagine Dragons The Worst Rock Band?"
The majority of twenty one pilots fans aren't gonna like death grips, I like them both however
This comment section: twenty one pilots haters heaven
A. Rahman u don't know how happy this makes me
A. Rahman lol
Jlrsnake13 if you are so happy of that i can't imagine what life means to you
You're not okay with people hating the band and the album but still act as if you're open-minded? GTFO.
Don't call them haters. that just gives them all evidence for why most fans are 12 year olds
Number 1 argument for 21 pilots being a good group, "Tyler is writing about his insecurities"
That doesn't make their music good
Vessel is a lot better.
Haven't even heard Blurryface, but I can tell already that Vessel is twice as consistent in its style, and it doesn't have AS many cheesey moments (Lovely is really a cheese fest).
+Riley Martin Would it be about him pissing in 1 of the 50 empty urinals, and the one guy walks in and pissed in the one right next to you and makes it all awkward?
+Riley Martin Well, I am scared to do that. So I could relate lmao
Riley Martin WHOA WHOA WHOA! PUT A FUCKING TRIGGER WARNING NEXT TIME I'M IN TEARS BECAUSE THIS HAPPENED TO ME AND I HAVE PTSD BECAUSE OF IT YOU CIS MALE
It's all in the live shows. The fact that it's only the two of them means that they have to put in the extra effort to "fill the stage". Therefore they have taken the "concept" in their newest album Blurryfave that all us fans have been hyped so much about and they (and their stage production/direction/coreography company etc) have created a show unlike any other. You should really go to a show just to understand the whole experience. I think that connection with the fams during the live shows is what has made twenty one pilots excel.
I love Twenty One Pilots! Their songs hold a meaning to me. I have experienced depression and suicidal thoughts, and their music has helped me to fight it. Alot of people hate them and I respect that.
You are a very good reviewer by the way. I enjoy your videos very much!
I love this album and I absolutely love your review. Thank you for your work!
My favorite part of twenty one pilots is the lyrics, their self titled album is a perfect example. Thank you for taking the time to review one of my favorite bands :) I will still jam to their songs for now until their next album haha
Ugly Music Nerd
😂 yeah a lot of fans take tøp criticism personal but I know we all have different ears for music
Twenty One Layers's BlurryShrek is better.
facts
Fact
😂
But dude, you missed the meaning of the album!
The end of the song Goner is the beginning of Heavydirtysoul, it's because that distorted scream you hear is actually Blurryface. In this song, Tyler is giving up and letting Blurryface win, which is why you hear a noose throughout the song. He's given up. And in the end, Blurryface wins. But then it actually continues to Heavydirtysoul, the first song on the Blurryface album. In this song, it picks up with where it left off. Blurryface is very loud, Tyler is praying for help, for Someone to save his soul. His fear of death inspires him to keep fighting Blurryface. Then it continues throughout the entire album, like a story about him fighting against his Blurryface. And in the end, the last song in the album, it's the new version of this song. He's determined to fight Blurryface once again, and it's evident he's much stronger than he was. During the buildup part of the song, you can hear a faint Blurryface scream, it gets louder and louder, until Tyler screams "DONT LET ME BE--!!!" and the battle begins. Very loud banging, Blurryface is screaming again, but now Tyler literally screams back. And in the end... Tyler screams "I WANNA BE KNOWN BY... You." And as soon as he says "You," Blurryface stops. The banging stops. It goes silent because Tyler won. He finally beat Blurryface, and that's the end of the entire album.
Sounds pretty damn pretentious imo
+spoonxs it means that MyNeedleDick didn't look into the real meaning of this album.
+spoonxs Some of the reasons why he called out the album for being "bad" were the lyrics. He basically called them too simple.
***** If he researched this album beforehand, then the lyrics would have been much more understandable
***** That's what makes him a bad music critic. If you only listen to an album once or twice, then you aren't giving it the chance to grow on you.
First video I saw from theneedledrop and i've been a fan since
Everyone is allowed to have an opinion and doesn’t deserve to be shat on for it. Both him, the haters, the lovers, and the people who don’t really care. I like them, but I’m probably not the typical stereotype for Top. Don’t be a jerk to someone who doesn’t enjoy it and don’t don’t be a jerk to someone who likes it! Simple as that! Thank you for sharing this, and I respect your opinion. :)
After this review, I subscribed. I agree with so many of your opinions, even though I'm a massive fan of the band. I personally loved the record, but I can see where you're coming from with what you say. Thanks for giving me a new perspective to my favorite band of all time!
Favorite band of all time? Your life is a joke.
If you're going to insult somebody online, you might as well know the difference between "your" and "you're".
NumberDerp First of all put my name cause I’m don’t understand who you’re talking to. Also how the hell is that an insult? And you might as well learn how to read since I did use the right “your” so Idk wtf you’re on about.
lol, i dunno, how IS calling somebody's life a joke an insult? i sure wonder...
NumberDerp Exactly you sure wonder cause it’s fucking not an insult. You just proved yourself wrong by yourself.
I have a couple generic yet catchy twenty one pilots songs on my phone. I wouldn't say they're fantastic, but they are certainly better than the garbage music Meghan Trainor puts on the radio, or Iggy Azalea. They TRY to be different but shoving in different genre influences, though not always succeeding.
I know this is kind of a dick argument but liking something for being better than Meghan Trainor or Iggy Azalea wouldn't be nearly enough to justify wanting to listen to that music regularly, it should have to hold up on its own..
***** What I mean is that it is my guilty pleasure. I have way better music to listen to that I think is fundamentally better. I guess it comes down to a handful of their songs being catchy and that's the only reason. My sisters think that TOP is god but I think that their songs range from generic dogshit to mildly catchy and entertaining. I definitely wouldn't consider them a good music group, but rather an ok one in a generation with shitty ones.
Andrewroo12 I have always argued that no one should feel guilty for enjoying something, and it should always be explainable why you enjoy or appreciate something, even if it's on a lesser level, as long as you can explain what you like and don't like about it.
***** Yeah, definitely. That's why a lot of the times I can see where people come from with music/games/movies when they critique it and it's easy to see both sides. But you can have occasional instances in all of those where it's so fundamentally well made or terribly made that it becomes harder to see why other people like or dislike it. I think people are more forgiving for things they are less familiar with in terms of quality. Which is why I'm definitely harshest on movies and games, and a little more forgiving with music because I'm not equipped to judge it from a fundamental standpoint since I haven't listened to enough variety. But yeah, interesting subject.
Andrewroo12 It's interesting you point that out, because I'm definitely the same way except it's movies, television and ESPECIALLY music that i'm harshly critical of but there are certain genres of those media formats that i'm pretty soft on and tend to like anything under a specific style.
I've grown out of the band tbh, it's trying to be experimental, fun and interesting but my main problem is they are trying to hard, like Melon said, it's underwhelming. The only good track I can look back to is Tear in My Heart but other than that, the band is just mediocore like Imagine Dragons, Fallout Boy or whatever fucking pop punk band you can name that isn't Paramore.
That One Guy yo im the exact same
Me too, the kinda make me cringe now
Same here.
they’re really cringe now, I’ve moved on cause they haven’t done anything in a while
What exactly do they do that makes you guys cringe
He's so good at pros and cons. Like, Anthony you're one of the few youtube music reviewers I'd actually enjoy having a conversation with even if I disagree. They're my fav band but like... different people react to different music in different ways? Something that really stresses me out about both fans and antis is the intense hate against one another, but this vid was actually chill (unlike the comments) and I love that.
Seeing as twenty one pilots are my favourite band, this kinda felt like someone was stabbing me in the gut, but I honestly have to agree with you. The album is really pop-y, and has a predictable sound. I like Vessel though, and I have to say it's one of my favourite albums, mostly for personal reasons.
In one of their interviews, Tyler said that blurryface was going to be completely different because vessel wasn't written for an audience. He said all the songs he wrote for vessel, he didn't write them for people to listen to. We are never going to get songs like the songs from self-titled, regional at best, and vessel ever again. And I'm okay with that, because they are constantly going to change. But somehow they still withhold something that makes them, them. Idk I just really love their music a lot. Sorry if this didn't make sense.
I literally feel the exact same way. Its a resonation thing. Whether I agree with the reviewer or not I think I will always connect with twenty one pilots anyways.
I actually agree with this. I tried to like them, but it was like I outgrew their music within a week.
i think that self-titled, regional at best and vessel were great albums with great lyrics, i like the blurryface rhythm but some lyrics are so ????, dont get me wrong, there are songs like doubt with great lyrics but the major part dont get me. btw, i like top, im not that kind of fan that knows everything about them but i enjoy their music, including no phun intended (that have DEVASTATING lyrics tbh, i cry everytime i listen to "save")
not today lyrics are great too
What do you mean by '????' just wondering..
Syxiri Procrastinator oh, ???? = wtf, nosense

DizzyingKaleidoscope I’m sorry for your lost :(
The only issue I have with the breakdown of this album is that I think every problem that he had with the album is the irony they were trying to create. They create this music as kind of a "haha this isn't impressive or original and we can do it too if you want" while turning the lyrics into something meaningful that a lot of artists don't do. Their songs are on the radio and it's furthering the idea of "if this is what you want you can have it" while at the same time staying true to themselves with their lyrics. Lane Boy even talks about how their producers want them to write music that people can sing along to and can dance to so they create that vibe while twisting the meaning behind it. Looking at it when not seeing that interwoven irony can produce that reaction of the music just being "normal" or just like any other pop song. So if you got that out of it, you didn't understand the album itself.
making music thats not impressive or original on purpose does not make it any more enjoyable to listen to
+Hal0Sux "no no but you don't understand! they're trying to sound generic! so that makes them good!"
I'm not trying to justify the sound, I'm trying to point out the irony behind it. Sure, it sounds generic and honestly lame but when you understand it, it makes it bearable. And instead you appreciate it for the message behind the lyrics, not just the tune. Listening to music without purpose is shallow and boring and I would rather listen to generic sounding music with a purpose then innovative music that means nothing.

I like TOP and I really love this record, but I definitely get where you're coming from. Good review.
Honestly this album has a lot of great songs. I bet it is remembered as a fantastic album. I still remember it as one of the best alt rock a albums ever. But hey, music is mostly subjective
most of the comments are about the fan base oh wow. if I'm honest, it's 50/50 with the fan base (possibly even 60/40). there are the crazy fans who think they're 'edgy' and only listen to 'real music' and who will literally attack you for having an opinion, but then there's also the fans who are respectful and kind and altogether chill people. I do love twenty one pilots, their music really interests me, but it annoys me when I see people use the 'shit fan base' as an excuse not to TRY to listen to their music. don't confuse the artist with the band.
*dont confuse the fans with the artist
