    Great video, I like your demonstration unit.
    Much better than the last video where he drilled a hole and ran a wire and said like 5 words the whole time!

    Can the dampers be controlled with a variable flow? or is it just open and closed?

    I have a zonefirst controller and dampers. My honeywell thermostat screen on zone 1 is BLANK (not working) while zone 2 is working as it should. When zone 2 is on the entire house is getting air. I went downstairs and found that zone 1 damper is not turning RED when it should be closed. Do I need a new damper motor?

    Hi!
    I'm a student and currently designing a solar powered poultry egg incubator, which the source of heat is through the heated air.
    My question is, can i use this type of damper/thermostat to control my temperature inside the incubator? If not, can u recommend?
    Thank you!

    This might be a dumb question. But can I have heating on for one floor. And cooling on for another floor? In the winter, I still use the cooling in the bedroom, but my basement has the thermostat set on heat to keep it warm. I always wonder if this will somehow mess up my system or cause any issues.

    • @Mr.Man-
      @Mr.Man- 4 года назад

      Typically furnaces are designed to allow for either A/C or Heat to operate, but not at the same time. Allowing both to operate would can cause damage to the compressor.

    • @SwatiMishraMusic
      @SwatiMishraMusic 4 года назад

      @@Mr.Man- so are you saying when I have one level set of “cool”, I should put all other floors on cool too? And vice versa?

    • @Mr.Man-
      @Mr.Man- 4 года назад

      @@SwatiMishraMusic yes. When you set your thermostat it should be to either hot or cool, not hot and cool. The compressor is an expensive component in the system and if that component stops working it’s usually cost effective to replace the entire system at that point, rather than repair or replace the compressor.

    • @SwatiMishraMusic
      @SwatiMishraMusic 4 года назад

      @@Mr.Man- ahh. That just seems like a hassle. Because I do have the basement thermostat on heat in the winter time. And the bedroom floor still on cool. But I suppose I don’t have a choice if I don’t want to damage the system. Thank you for your input!

    Hello, I'm from Argentina where this is not an easy topic and I'm travelling on the next month to the USA. My idea is to buy products there.
    I saw some of your videos and they are awesome! Really helpful, anyway I have some doubts about my case. Let me introduce the situation.
    I would like to give my system an update. I have a Lennox heater and A/C system (model C23-51/65FC-1). Right now I have just ONE old thermostat and I would like to install TWO digital tstats (one upstairs and one downstairs).
    I have already checked and my unit have the C-wire (not connected).
    Another very important thing to take into account is that I don’t have any dampers (and I find it very difficult to install them), so the idea is not to do a zoning but to have control of the temperature on the floor I am regardless what the temperature is on the other floor.
    So, question:
    Is it possible to install the two stats in parallel and select from my device which one to work? Or do I need a “selecting device” like for example a Lennox LZP-2?
    And just FYI I’m not looking for the latest Tstat model. The only pretension I have is that it would be great if they could be WiFi controlled. I was looking at Honeywell RTH6580WF and I think it would be great for me.
    Please advise me on what to do on my situation.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

    I have an existing system that I would like to retrofit with at least 3 zones. Upstairs, the main floor, and my unfinished basement. Can I use the existing air handling unit in the basement, or do I need to make difficult or expensive changes... like adding a variable speed drive?

    • @sierracoolsvegas
      @sierracoolsvegas  4 года назад

      Adding zoning to existing equipment is possible, but a HVAC professional has to take measurements to determine if the zone sizes are going to work with your current AC/Heating setup. Single stage equipment zoning can be tricky since it only has one speed: 100%. If you’re due for an upgrade then a full variable capacity system will be the best bet for proper zoning of a house, since its able to ramp up and ramp down to meet the different capacities.

    Static dampers are a great way to regulate air pressure to rooms . Once you start to motorize these dampers for zone you will start changing the pressure of the room . Your air will fluctuate all year room. I bought a house with a zone system it’s complete garbage . Stay away from motorized zone systems waste of money .

    I am replacing my 2 thermostats controlled by 2 zones. One of the thermostat has only 3 wires (R, W, Y), while the other has 6 wires (Y, G,W,R,O,B) MY question is, does the thermostat with 3 terminals access the fan with there's no wires connected into it? Installed in my home is a Trol-A-Temp mini zone system. Thank you.

    • @robotech
      @robotech 3 года назад

      No, it only tells the damper to open or close, not the fan. Your other thermostat controls the fan.

    Can this type of system handle A/C and heater on simultaneously? For example, can I have the A/C on downstairs and heater on upstairs running?

    • @sierracoolsvegas
      @sierracoolsvegas  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Daniel. Unfortunately, that is not an option.

    • @Gsxrdannyy

      So in my parent's house sometimes we were running the heater downstairs, but it got way to hot upstairs so we ran the A/C upstairs. Which it actually allowed us to do. We are experiencing problems now with the heater, so I'm guessing it was probably because we ran the A/C and heater at the same time.

    • @leeroy5665

      If you ran cool and heat at the same time then you changed your wiring to do so and you couldnt have had heat downstairs and cool upstairs without two separate systems.

Currently when I turn it on it heats both bedrooms but I wanted to know if I can replace it with a smart thermostat that can heat just one of the bedrooms(AND let’s me choose which) or both of the bedrooms. You need the electronic dampers and a separate tstat to control them. So for zoning and controlling a separate room, you need a minimum of 2 tstats
