      I personally do use some of these chords/ slightly different variations I do prefer rootless sounds in general, and use full chords as a position marker or as an ending. An important note is to truly play fo the song, and the lesson of playing less is more, takes many years to master! thanks, Jens, beautiful playing.

      I need to work on ALL of it. I quit playing for about 20 years, because of work. And I am not working as much, so I am trying to learn more.

    Jens, your videos may well be the best guitar instructional videos on the internet. I love how "dense" they are in terms of usuable content. I find myself spending hours digesting the rich ideas you include in the span of just a few minutes.
    For example, in a video on using pentatonic scales just one thing in the video was using the minor pentatonic of the 4th over the dominant chord. That alone has opened up a whole new world in my playing.
    Anyway, thanks! I've only discovered your videos in the past month or so but I've been recommending them to everyone I know.

    Hi Jens foetical your lesson...which I will check of course and maybe learn something new, or at least learn a strategy which will be helpfull for me...Your theoretical approach and the focus on Harmony and intrinsic relations is exquisit, down to earth & No Nonsense...so!! What is maybe something that is overlooked in general of most Great Teachers of RUclips, that it is impossible to exactly know where we, the youtube community stand...that's why you ask us to respond.>..So the only thing that I want to put emphasize on is:::: Interval approach of numbers for instance 7vvv5v6 on the Root...on the Dominant(Myxolydian,) on the IIm7 on a Tune like Moment's notice...to proove that very difficult changes when studied securely and slowly that number approach(Coltrane/Bebop/Mopdal) approach of thinking pruely in numbers related to the chords is an approach that is actually more then enough for beginners...this apporach is also the Stan Getz or Chet Baker approach just play nice colour Tones, specific intervals on a Change the Great thing about this approach that there is no "Words" nessecary, because the numbers speak for them self and make different "affects" to each specific step...I would ask to take a Tune like Lady Bird, 26-2(conrafact of Confirmation) Moment's Notice, Giant Steps, Benny Golson's Stablemates, or Clifford's JoySpring....why???Because hose Tunes have interesting mathematical intrinsic relatuit the intervallic apprion, and the Steps are based on Numers as well Tunes Like Nefertiti, are actually already that Model and that difficult, that other approaches are nessecary...But Tunes Like Rythm Changes, or the other mentioned will sound nice with pure the related -interval-affects-approach, because that's How Parker develeoped it With Miles Davis....and the moment the Chords have a Melodie Hidden in Them(for instance Humpty Dumpty is built on a chromatic fall of Maj7th Chords as a modern Answer on Giant Steps...if you research the piece you will find out that some bars will have the exact chord wehn you make to changes of 14 bars anbd the chromatic fall shows you how many chords are either substitutions or even litteraly the expected Majorth chord....So this said only the above Tunes I would say they sutone scale it the Intervallic approach and on a Domainant we could of course use in some cases Lydian Domianant or or MyxoLydian#11...Alterd Scale Melodic Minor/Super Locrian, Octatonic or Half-Hole or Dominant Diminished....The Messian Scale that Allan Holdsworth Uses the 9Tone scale on the #IV so: on G7: F#major 6th diminsedh with added b3....with the advanatge that the Triad of the Root CEG is sompletelyleftout avoided or how you want to put that...So the Parameter of stronger Outside Devices Like II V on the Tritone or even Phrygian Dominant or 4ths approaches combined with diminisehed scale(George Besnon) side slipping etc are all coverable with thge Intervallic Apporoach...Could you make a Tutoarial where those things are covered with just one intervallic Patern(Jerry bergonzi does this also.>>.on All The Things You are or On Green Dolphin Street..., to demonstrate

    Always awsome content. Do you have any video (or if not, could you do one) about playing as a duo with a pianist? How to comp when the pianist is playing a solo and all that?
    Thanks for all the videos

    • @JensLarsen
      @JensLarsen  4 года назад +1

      Thank you very much! No I don't have a video like that because it really depends on how the pianist is playing. Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson and Thelonious Monk sound so different that they might as well play different instruments. You can't really lay down rules for that. I do have an old Q&A where I talk a bit about it and a video on comping in a duo demonstrating some different general approaches, but nothing specific that works for all piano players :)

    Whats the difference between a chord and a 'Jazz Chord'? I have never geard anyone say 'rock chord' or ‘classical chord' or 'pop chord'. Why are jazz chords different

    • @JensLarsen
      @JensLarsen  4 года назад +1

      If I don't write Jazz Chords I have people showing up insisting that "Wonderful Tonight" is equal to The 5th symphony of Beethoven or "Wonderwall" is like "Giant Steps"
      Also: people who look for it can't find it, you need to ask that of all the people who search for "Jazz Chords" on Google and RUclips....

      Jens Larsen but a ii V i is not a jazz only thing. You ever heard the beatles or Michael jackson? And if you didnt write jazz chords surely it would have the same views, after all the title or thumbnail doesn’t say jazz chords. Sorry, just seems like jazz elitism to me.

    • @JensLarsen
      @JensLarsen  4 года назад

      @@georgeeldridge7954 Everything seems like Jazz elitism to you, I am not sure it makes sense to measure by that.
      Maybe you should go complain on some of the other elitist videos on rock-riffs, blues-solos and funk-grooves?
