"This is one of my very early demos (around 1995-96) when I started writing lyrics and recording vocals for my songs. "Waltz Of The Vampires" might be the first song where I recorded my vocals. I started with growling because my clean singing was pretty horrible in the beginning, but it got better over the years with a lot of practice.
"Waltz Of The Vampires" also features these cool, arpeggiated dark, mystic, yet also melodic synth patterns. I was experimenting with darker chords and some chromatic notes.
I remember getting these synth patterns recorded as a painful process. My family had this old synth, an "electric organ" with just a few sounds. I loved one of the preset sounds on it. It was this kind of "harpsichord pluck" made from a saw wave. I found the sound haunting.
To capture this particular sound, I had to play the pattern at a very slow pace and save it in the synth's memory. Then, I connected cables from the synth to my 8-track tape machine and recorded the sound. The tricky part was that I had to speed up and match the tempo to the song. This was not an easy task as there were only short analog levers for the tempo adjustment; I had to adjust the tempo on the go while recording it.
Also, my guitar shredding skills took a huge leap around this time, so there's some cool soloing here as well. With this song, I felt I was on to something... And I still enjoy this song quite a lot. Hope you like this sample of it!" - Jari

I hope the legendary early demos end up on Spotify once they're released. These are way too good to keep locked up and I'd love to have them in my playlists.
Given that they’re being offered as campaign exclusive rewards to get more backers for Time II, it would be quite controversial if any of these ever made it onto Spotify, as it would mean Jari lied to get money. So I highly doubt anyone can (legally) get these tracks once the campaign ends April 30th.

That track is incredible and unique in the realm of you, Jari. This reminds me of Enthroned Darkness Triumphant by Dimmu, Stian Aarstad was so good with his dark haunted Neoclassical twist! We can hear a little bit of Sverd from Arcturus and also Covenant in the album Nexus Polaris. There's a bit of Children of Bodom and even some chromatic licks a la John Petrucci but the fact this is almost 30 years old is absolutely devastating! A real Melodic Haunted Black Metal gem with incredibly tasty synth and guitar solos 🤘🏼💙! Keep them coming!

I always knew Jari is an open-minded and versatile composer, but couldn't imagine that he was tempted by black metal side :)
I mean, The Forest Seasons was very black metal influenced. He also was lead guitar in a black metal band named "Arthemesia", so he has plenty of black metal chops
The Forest Seasons has some black metal moments, notably Autumn, but I'm curious how a Wintersun album more in the vein of Waltz of the Vampires would've turned out.

This sounds exactly like an early Skyfire song and this was recorded almost a decade before they came out! Blown away by these early demos, Jari. You're truly my biggest musical inspiration.
their first demo was 1998 and first album was 2001, not quite a decade
I have also been comparing and seeing similarities between skyfire and the early demos. Not that I mind, I'm just amazed that they sound so similar despite being released/worked on at pretty much the same time in two different countries.
