- The I-Team's Call for Action helped an Ipswich woman who spent years trying to get to the bottom of a mistake that was affecting her credit score.
A Stealership and a Bank did not want to help a customer until they started getting bad publicity from the news. Are you surprised?
EXACTLY what I call them.
This isn't a dealership issue, they have done nothing wrong. The loan holder ( the bank ) released the title to the dealership and the ONLY way that this would occur is if the dealership paid off the loan.
@@PatrickBaptist 100%!!!
2 days it took to fix....bs
@@nicholasfoley7105 If the lady would have asked HER BANK to escalate this rather than just talking to a call center, it would have been fixed long ago.
Instead of calling this tv station, this lady should have called a good consumer law lawyer. They violated Fair Credit Reporting Act and she should have been entitled to monetary awards well into thousands. Hope she didn’t waiver her rights in exchange for the measly 4 oil changes.
Instead of calling the TV station, she should have asked the banks front line customer service to escalate the situation rather than waiting 2 years. It is OBVIOUS that the bank paid off the loan because the title was RELEASED by the bank.
To call a lawyer costs her legs and arms. To call news is the final option and it works faster than anything.
@@tamiibrock6176 not necessarily. For FCRA violations, most lawyers take cases on contingency, meaning you don’t pay and get paid only if your case wins. You just have to be prepared to explain your facts and have good documentation to support your claim.
The media was free. The lawyer is extremely expensive. It's a no brainer.
@@Joqg2tf-2843that is only if they are fighting to get money. They were not fighting to get money they were fighting to make things right. You are incorrect.
Free maintenance or not I wouldn't have a thing to do with that dealership ever again. They get zero points for "making things right" as they only did it under the threat of bad publicity.
Amen
And 2 years later!
Two sweet ladies and a great outcome.
The Subaru dealership did not help this poor lady.
These indifferent trolls should be boycotted.
As they posess integrity akin to 👹 Donald J. Trumputinixon.🐖
Oy-vey !
It's funny how fast it gets resolved when the news gets involved.
That's why I get a attorney same result 😂
I hate these type of stories. These morons make mistakes, they give the customer the runaround and blame the little person. But as soon as the story goes public, “oh oh excuse us (clears throat) …how can we help?” I’m so glad Nancy finally got the help she deserved!!
Ridiculous! She should not have had to deal with this! Maybe she can sue them! Thank goodness she persevered!
She cant at this point since they resolved the issue and there is no harm. Had she done that instead of calling the news, the court would have awarded her for pain and suffering since she lost time trying to chase both of the companies and got her credit ruined. If she was smart she would have tried making a few purchases that needed credit knowing it would be denied which would add to that pain and suffering since it would negatively affect her life. If only she knew she could have gotten a 10k - 20k check with easy and they would still have to solve her problem
@@bjvu9460 It wasn't until she called the news that anything was resolved. It wasn't until then that what had happened was figured out. She couldn't have taken them to court before then, because what happened was unclear, and the cost would have been astronomical.
But now that it's over, of course she can take them to court for pain and suffering. And all the time she spent trying to get this resolved.
As a former employee of a media company, I can assure you that the media has much more power than what people realize.
a 2 yr maint, plan to fix that huge mistake?? the lady should have asked for a free car or more !!!
The dealer did nothing wrong as they PAID OFF THE LOAN. The bank released the title without following through, blame them.
Fixed in days THEIR error after refusing for TWO YEARS to do a damn thing!
She has such a sweet heart on her. I don’t think I would have ever been so calm.
I am glad I didn’t go to that stealership.
This I-Team is really out here fixing lives one issue at a time. I'm not sure if it was created to boost ratings or just to introduce a side segment, but it really has a massive effect in peoples lives and I really hope you guys continue to offer this fantastic service to those in need.
She should get a lifetime warrantee.
MY 18 HAD 6 YR WARRENTY

Why did they release the title to the dealership in the first place?
No cash no title.
Good thing this channel allows viewers to comment on its story whereas WCVB turns off comments for all of its stories in RUclips but allows people to post comments on Facebook.
That's why we call them the enemies of humanity.
That fact that you're not allowed to question stories that are run by corporate news outlets on SOCIAL MEDIA, is very telling about what they actually think of us.
Their days are numbered, however.
It seems any business or bank always do things faster when the media comes into play.
They did nothing to help this woman 🤦🏽
the dealership should be charged with felonies
A felony for what exactly? The dealership paid off the loan and got the title from the bank, what more should they have done? The issue is with the bank not the dealer.
Should have been an easy fix/correction but most big corporations are run by indifferent, crooked sociopaths these days.
This almost happened to me but I called everyday and stayed on them, I worked the car financing pprwprk department crazy, it took about 40 days though, ridiculous on that dealership
That is downright criminal. The bank and that crummy dealership ruined the woman’s credit because of their mistake.
What kind of stupid bank releases a lien but doesn’t confirm payment?
EXACTLY!!
They should've given the customer lifetime free maintenance plus $6700 cash back refund.
Thanks, Boston. The rest of the nation needs stories like this right now.
Getting an endoscopy from the local news. Changes things
I work for a financial institution that services auto loans someone clearly dropped the ball somewhere as that tile shouldn’t be released if the bank never got the payoff. its also unfortunate that dealership didn’t try to help and they should’ve saw that the payoff cleared on their end…
I will say this as a cautionary to all who are looking to sell or trade their vehicles in or return them(if lease). PLEASE make sure to follow up to ensure your financial acct closes because often times the dealership don’t immediately and then customers will get bill saying your past due and be mad thinking everything was done in a day when thats not the case. Do not assume everything the dealer tells you is true.
Credit scores are a scam
The biggest scam out there
True, but irrelevant to this story.
It's sad that it requires getting the media involved to get companies to do what they're supposed to
Growing trend for local news stations across the country to white knight us lowly consumers.
It's symbiotic - you get views, we get content, & someone out there who's being forcibly entered up the backside by yet another rotten corporation gets much needed reprieve. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. ❤
Over a decade ago I purchased a vehicle from a used car lot and when I didn’t receive a notice to update my registration tabs I went in to the office where you get that done. It turned out that the title didn’t transfer over to me but the lady working the office believed I was the owner after I presented the purchase receipt. If I had been pulled over it would been one hell of an ordeal.
Why? She has proof she traded the car in... It's not her responsibility anymore...
Thank you, Cheryl!!!!!
Wow, the incompetence on display here is astounding
Many years ago I had a small dealer try to do this to me. It is indeed a nightmare.
Nice job Cheryl!!!
Had the similar thing happen to me, but for a smaller amount, the difference being my bank did not contact me but instead charged it off. Something I did not become aware of until a year later when I checked my credit history.
Great job!
Funny how it took getting the new media involved then all of a sudden the dealership was willing to work with the bank.....I would never shop there again!
How hard would it have been for Ira Subaru to check their work?
Please boycott subaru dealerships everyone.
You're a natural in front of the camera
This is such a disaster for any consumer. It is unwise to trade in a car while there is still a balance left on it. Even when the dealership says, "We'll pay off your trade. No matter how much you owe". All they do is add the remaining balance back to the car you are purchasing and that will, in turn, cause your balance to go up and take more months to pay it all off! Be cautious about this, people.
Not true, I've traded in 10 cars with a balance, you must be young,
100% correct. There are no free lunches so if it’s coming out of the old car, it’s getting added into the new car. You may not see it but it’s there.
@@rondas7772I agree. But I believe he means, it’s better not to give them any “leverage” or pay more than you have to. Depending on the “cough” stealership of course.
@rondas7772 years ago I was told this by the dealer. If I owed money on the car I was trading in they would pay off the balance and add that amount to the loan of the new car I was getting. Unless the value of the car really exceeded what was owed.
How disgusting. Why is it that we all need either a journalist’s bright light or a fierce attorney, just to get lazy, worthless, greedy creeps to do their jobs?
Lawsuit!!
Resolve it quickly?
Such a shame that the media has to get involved to set thing right
I sort of blame the lady though for not checking with the bank to make sure her account was paid off.
I would have kept checking to see if it was paid off, if not keep pressing the dealership.
I love that there is help for consumers, albeit not always the more traditional ones
I can't stress this enough. Use a credit union to finance your vehicle. Sell your old vehicle privately. Never ever rely on a dealership finance department to do anything properly.
What the subaru stealership name
Someone in the dealership scammed her they knew exactly what they were doing with the car with the money and knew she had a clean and high credit score and falsely reported the claim to the bank so they would keep the money to themselves the person in charge for this in the dealership should be fired and prosecuted
rule#1 never trade a vehicle in when you still owe on it.
2 years of free "maintenance" which probably only includes oil changes is not enough for this major error. Especially when the only way to get this resolved was to call the news station so they could embarrass them into doing whats right.
she is just one of many that people turn away.
this is the fear i get when i trade in my vehicle that something like this will happen.
My ex-inlaws thought they were so clever! Their financed truck, bought new, had a motor issue with one payment left. They decided not to pay it.
Fast forward a few years, their son, my ex, and I went to buy a car. We got turned down. We couldn't understand why, so, I went downtown to find out. The banker looked us up and said it was for a bad credit charge. What bad credit? The inlaws' refusal to pay their last payment! Somehow, 'Frod' (deliberate misspelling) motor company thought a Steve was Howard!
When the banker put me on the phone with the dealer, he was all but trying to give us the damned car! We turned HIM down and went elsewhere!
This was in '74, so, hopefully this company learned to spell since then!
❤ the work of the news 🥇🥇🥇🥇
They didnt so everything in their power...they git bad public PR from thr news and they quixkly got it taken care of. That dealership needs to give her skme money for their mistake that took news report to correct
That's why the best thing to do. Is to get the money from the dealership. And hand in the money yourself. Never trust anyone like the dealership to pay off a loan in a trade for you. 9 out of 10 times they won't. And not only will you still be on the hook for the money owed. Messing up your credit score. But the dealership will try to use this as a way to think free money.
The only reason dealers are able to abuse customers like this is because they have a powerful lobby group at the state level.
Image being only 6500 away from owning a car outright but instead you choose to start a whole new car loan. America might be the land of the free but its populace has other plans other than that with their personal lives.
Cars don’t last forever, she made a better new car choice. We had a Kia soul at work, they are junk, cheaply made, I’m sure with only 6500 left, the car was near its end.
@@craigc1879Kia/Hyundais are crap. I'd never buy one
People are really not smart. If after you try and the dealership fail to rectify the problem, your next step is to sue them in court and you dont even need a lawyer because they would not let this go to trial. A lawyer would help because its a slam dunk case. The next step is to sue them for pain and suffering since her credit is ruined and I bet they would get this fixed immediately
This is the 10th story I've seen today over a simple error that people spent weeks or months trying to clear up, only for it to be taken care of in a couple days after the local news gets involved. Really should be a government agency exclusively for fining companies in these situations.
Credit scores are a scam. If you miss one payment your score drops a lot. If you miss payments occasionally along your score stays low. But stop paying at all for months on end and your score starts going back up.
First she is responsible for payments until the payoff happens.
If the dealer paid it off and their check was cashed, then the copy of the cancelled check should be sent to the bank proving they got it and cashed it. Then it is on the bank to find it…
I mean obviously they released the lien so that means they satisfied it… no bank is going to send the title or lien release unless the account was paid off.
This is why you never trade in A car
Car Payments just sounds awful
Subaru and that bank needs to give her the car for free for this scam.
Lexus of Watertown ripped me off wanted me money back and they flat out did not want to help me. Car failed inspection twice for tires and then the radio stopped working on my is250 fsport that another dealer wanted three thousand dollars to fix. They sold me a pos
She will see this causing problems on her credit report for years. Even with letters from lawyers they will continue to show the problem and it will keep her credit score down. Even though the company sent the letter, she has tho have the send another to get it taken off the credit report.
It’s sad she had to tell the news to get that taken care of. Fear of bad press smh
They knew exactly what they were doing the dealership acts like they were gonna report it they didn't it's called scamming they don't report it they keep the money falsely claim against you and the bank and they never get investigated
Sue Subaru for stress disorder conduct
One reason the dealership mode still exists, the car company just throws up their hands and says "I know nothing, nothing" and let the dealer take the rap.
So she didn’t have her new car painted purple?
They should’ve given her the Subaru for free as the resolution.
CBS ITeam should had kept pressing the banks and dealership. This is a felony and they let it go on for years.
0:21 it’s a parking brake. Pull it up. Use it. It’s there park your car. Just leaving it parking on the gear shift is damaging the parking pawl in the gear box … not a cheap repair.
2 years??? I would’ve barely lasted 2 days with all this before calling the news!
At least they try to compensate with something. But the bank need to do something also. They release the car title.
Two free years of maintenance......and $100k for the credit ding....if you ask me.
Hard to believe, a dealership not paying off the loan on a trade-in, then reselling it and a bank puts another loan on it after getting the title from the scammer? Unheard of, except on weekdays. At least Car Max does it without the title!
2 years free maintenance which is basically 4 oil changes on a new car...lol got to give him at least an E for effort
That’s why if you can pay cash for a car, then do so. I refuse to take out a loan. Cash is KING!
She should have got a lawyer first.
No one should have bought a new car thru financing, that's one of the stupidest thing anyone could do, paying more for something that loses value over time.
Nearly two years, they decided to do something about it??
Damn it took 2 years and the news for something that could have been reviewed and done in an hour or less
Only two things will get people to do whats right. Bad publicity and lawsuits.
Happy to help…if there’s an investigation.
meanwhile, the auto dealer's bank account had her $$$ for two years, using it to further their business at no cost to them and at expense to her. yeah, some happy ending.
Not shocking, as this is when Prime Auto owned Ira Auto. Shady stuff right there. Glad "Call for Action" got involved and made things right for this lady.
You could have got a lawyer?

LOL. I will say, I bought a Subaru Outback in 2013 and LOVED the car. I mean LOVED it. The dealership itself though? The service department ALONE made me not buy another one when it was time to buy something else. Loved the car but the way the dealership itself did business was enough to turn me off on them in the future.
The Stealership needs to go to prison.
and that's why i pay cash for everything........i don't need no loans, only one credit card, for my you tube account...15 bucks a month.......
