    Hello ! Last year I received my new Mastercard from my French bank. I figured out that their was a rounded notch at the bottom and still have the bumping numbers.
    When I saw this, I said to myself it was nice to have these even if I don’t need them for now.

  • @vigal79

    I’m with wells Fargo and they do offer their debit cards and credit cards in braille. But, I looked at a friends braille debit card, and I found the braille dots hard to read. I lost my vision later in life, and can read braille basics especially numbers. But, I still found this very challenging to read as it was small and scrunched and squished together.
    Back when I had some usable vision, I remember also trying to read the numbers in a hurry and trying to get phone orders in.

    Your video was very informative I wish all banks would do this I have a Visa debit card and it’s flat and it confuses me I wish they would make them tactile

  • @TheCLPVideos

    When you flipped the card over, briefly, did I notice that there was actually a large print credit card number on the back of the card? That would be a great feature for the visually impaired as well. Many times I am placing a phone order, and need to provide the credit card number over the phone, and I fight to obtain that number off of a standard credit card without running around trying to find the proper magnifying glass. A large print card number on the card would be a great idea if that was really there?

    • @Positivekitten
      @Positivekitten 2 года назад +1

      Yes, it was a decent sized print number.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  2 года назад +1

      Yes it was. Sorry, I guess I should have mentioned that in the video, but I was focusing on the tactile elements of the card. At least on these demo cards, the number and other information is printed in large print on the back of the card.

    • @macgabhann1108
      @macgabhann1108 2 года назад +1

      I noticed that as well that is a great feature even for someone who isn't visually impaired, I'm finding that the numbers on the normal cards my mom and I use are impossible to read with out a magnifying glass.

    Great videos voice Sam I have a couple of credit cards and have them organized in my wallet so I can easily find them. I think this is a great thing. I use my patriot viewpoint glasses to assist me in and so into chi chip reader etc. and I of course have my thick fancy American express card that’s metal so I know that that where that one is. I do notice definite differences even reading with the glasses the newer cards actually work better for me with the patriot viewpoint glasses because I can more easily see the black numbers on say a silver background is much easier to read so color contrast definitely plays a role.

    I have a debit card, and it is also from master and it also has the tap to pay, or where you hold it or just tap it against the machine and it works that way too. I mainly use Apple Pay though, since it’s just a lot quicker. Either way makes it a lot easier. I also heard a rumor that if you request it, you can get your debit card in braille. Same thing as your credit card, but I’m not sure if that’s true. I think it’s only for master though, again you have to call your bank and ask.

  • @lmorris1953
    @lmorris1953 2 года назад +1

    That’s great but it would also be nice if they would put a AI chip in the card that would make the machine you’re using talk The menus.

    This is awesome news. Well done video as well. I would’ve liked it, however, for some reason, I cannot seem to find the like, dislike, and share buttons on some videos since a recent RUclips app upgrade on my phone. I don’t know if this is just an iPhone thing or if it’s on android as well but I’ve been noticing this. Some videos it seems to be there like expected but the other video seem to go from the button to unsubscribe from the channel to the hashtags that were applied to the video. That section seems to get skipped entirely.

    Question this might be another video you’ve done but I thought I’d ask. Any tricks for dealing with credit card readers? I mean to my knowledge they don’t talk so you’re kind of up a creek without a paddle without sighted assistance and I’m on a whole not very trusting. Of people I don’t know. In my opinion they should just make them talk. Thanks for doing a video on these cards they are very cool and I’m glad I learned about them.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  2 года назад

      No, unfortunately I don’t know any tricks for those. I can’t stand them either! Honestly, I just give the person my card and tell them they need to do it.

    I rarely use my debit card since I have more of an issue with using the interface of the 10000 keypads out there than the card itself. Instead, I use the Capital One Venture card. Not all but most machines, you just put the card in and you don't have to interact or push any buttons on the keypad. I just pay the card off right away and I earn travel points.

    Is anybody try putting braille on the cards there used to be a kit by independent living aids that came with a tiny recorder and a basically a card size paper credit card that you could use a pin that came with to write the numbers really really big and it would fit in your wallet it’s good but you can only write the number so big and I would never just sit there listen to the recorded number but I guess it would work at home. I never thought to cut the card itself but that might also be some ideas I think I might actually do the modification to the cards and I’m trying to learn the braille numbers but I think I’m definitely getting to that point

    Good morning. Love your videos. What type of jobs are out there for us. Where can I go to search for a job. I am a visually impaired individual. I am 51. SSID is not going to do.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  2 года назад

      It’s easier to answer the question what jobs can we not do. Just decide what you want to do, what you’re good at, and try to get a job doing that. Once you do, you can then adapt the job to work around your vision needs.

    Hey Sam my daughter is going to have her first genetic test for stargard's soon. Do you happen to recall the name of the test that you got? I remember one of your videos you said you got one test and it ended up not actually testing for the correct genes and you had to get a secondary test. Just wondering if you remembered the name of the test so maybe we don't have to do the same thing

    • @theblindlife

      No, sorry, I don’t remember the name of it. However, the first test wasn’t even testing the ABCA4 Jean, which is the one for star guards. So I would just make sure they are doing a full panel test.

    This is a really good idea I hope more banks get on board with it. I live in the UK and for the most part contactless payments are a game changer for the VI community how ever more and more company's card reader machines have a touch screen this is a bad move on there part. On the odd occasion I have to put my pin number in I now won't be able to as I can't see th key pad on the screen.

      It might be worth visiting your local bank branch for advice. They can arrange for you to have an old style signature card if that would suit you better and large print or braille communication when it is appropriate - at no cost to you.
