Standard poodle owner here! I'd been looking for a goldendoodle for almost a year, when I met a standard poodle owner who convinced me to "poodle" instead of "doodle" -- and I'm so glad I did! My standard poodle is hypoallergenic, has an easier coat to maintain than most doodles (groomers agree on this too, and it costs me less money to groom as a result), great temperament, calm, intelligent, amazing with children, and responsibly bred with health testing. If you like the doodle "look" just ask your groomer to give your standard poodle a goldendoodle haircut. My heart breaks with you. My dog just passed away from cancer as well. But just so you know doodles are prone to cancer as well. Most die of cancer when they are 12-14. If it’s a larger doodle ( like mine ) it will live to be 12-13 most likely. But at least you get a few more years after 8 years. Smaller dogs live longer because they don’t undergo intense gene mutation from rapid growth in the first year. Smaller poodles 10-20 pounds can live up to 20 years. 20-40 pounds 15 years and anything over 40 pounds 13-15 years. Anything over 60 pounds is less than 13 yearsa
We lost our beautiful rescued Golden boy to cancer a day after his tenth birthday. He was with us only 4 years. Loved every minute. We considered a doodle for a second but we so love the Golden personality we decided to rescue a 3 year old female and she's a joy! Open your heart no matter the breed you decide on.
I have always wondered what the F1 and F11B meant. Thanks so much for clarifying this for me. As it turns out, I now know that my Goldendoodles who I had for 15 1/2.years was a F1B. I'm a professional Dog Groomer in the state of VT. In this video they talk about grooming every 8-12 weeks. My fellow associates and myself recently discussed this at the NE Groom Show. Doodles should be done every 4-6 weeks. They require lots of intense brushing on a daily basis. About 20-30 minutes minimum. They mat easily when wet from being outside, even the snow in the winter. They have to be completely dried and brushed everytime they get wet or they will most likely mat up. Many new Doodle owners have come into my shop not realizing the amount of grooming and personal care at home a Doodle needs. Most doodle grooms from talking to my fellow associates range from $100-$150 depending on where you are. I know some who require their Doodle owners to bring them in monthly. Just want people to understand that amount of care that goes into owner a doodle. They are great dogs with wonderful energy. They also require a lot of socializing and training or they can become holy terrors lol. I say that with love. I say we are in doodle heaven, many groomers call it hell. So many Doodles become nightmares with their personalities if they are not trained and worked with regularly. They are very sweet and loving.
We agree with this. Thanks for your input. The 8-12 weeks recommendation is really only applicable if you shave your doodle down really short. We should have been more explicit with this. If you leave your doodles hair long, you definitely need to go in every 4-6 weeks to prevent mats, tangles, and knots.
Great video, always wondered what that meant. Only really recently found out what the difference is between a Goldendoodle and a Labradoodle. I've got an F1B golden Labradoodle. When I was walking him and chatting to people that said they had a Goldendoodle, didn't really know what they meant, as they looked very similar to my Alfie. He's a fantastic dog, friendly, intelligent and so playful. Has some Poodle traits, like barking at other dogs on the lead, he's fine off it. Used to own a Labrador, but he's not quite as crazy, also doesn't like swimming at all, loves to paddle though. Would like another as I personally like most of the standard Poodle traits. Really like Standard Poodles though, not as keen on the small ones. Just an easier dog to control and train than my Labrador was, a bit more affectionate too.
I have an F1 goldendoodle bitch who is a medium size and I decided to let her have just one litter. We mated her with an excellent miniature poodle and she produced 6 beautiful healthy puppies (F1B's). The puppies are now almost 2 years old and the owners have kept in touch with photos etc. They are all very much smaller than their mum and non-shedding too! If you are looking for a smaller, non-shedding goldendoodle, I would highly recommend an F1B.
Just got my first F1B goldendoodle. Just 9 weeks old. Still has the puppy traits gotta train him but so far not complaining. In the first day trained him to walk up and down my stairs. I also have a 3 year old golden retriever crossed with a border collie. That is an amazing cross. She sheds a lot. Really intelligent and very affectionate. I am hoping my doodle will be as loving and fun as I other dog
Great explanation of goldendoodle genetics. However, as an owner of both an F1 and an F1b, there is no guarantee that even an F1b is 100% hypoallergenic or non-shedding. Both of my doodles shed. I adore them both, but would choose an F1 over an F1b any day due to it being the perfect combination of two wonderful breeds. The F1 inherits the perfect amount of calm, loyalty, and sweetness from the retriever, with an equal mix of intelligence from the poodle. F1bs, obviously, tend to get predominant poodle characteristics and can be on the hyper side.
I have an F1b golden-doodle. I love him so much and he is such an amazing smart intelligent dog. Thank you for clarifying the difference between the both. I knew my dog is more poodle than Golden , he definitely has the golden eyes and some of the personality. I definitely like his coat, it’s not curly curly but it’s def thick. this video didn’t lie because I definitely take him to the groomer every 6 to 12 weeks, because his hair definitely does tangle. Regardless if they are an F1 or an F1B they are both great dogs.
@@fireclaw90a51 Almost certainly because they like the personality of the Golden. We’ve had both Goldendoodles and Poodles and prefer the Goldendoodle.
@@fireclaw90a51 I agree with comment above. Although the dog is 75 percent poodle but it still has a lot of the personality of the golden which I love which is why I went with.
Thank you for sharing your video with us. ❤️ So much clarification between the two of F1 and F1B. I am thinking of getting a Golden-doodle in couple of weeks but can’t decided on which ones; whether a male coffee/ coco or a creamy white with blue eyes female. They’re 6 weeks old sooo cute and It is a little pricey though.
We had a couple Goldendoodles and they were brother and sister from the same litter. They were very smart. They only had to be told once. It is always good to have two dogs so they can keep each other company especially when you are away from home. The only thing I found out was they needed to be clipped about every 90 days to keep them from getting matted. Also they get ear balls of fur that have get plucked out about twice a year.
Great video. I have a golden retriever now and yes he sheds like crazy. I like the look of the F1 as to me looks more like a retriever still. Will an F1 still shed less than a standard golden retriever ??
Yes, an F1 should in theory shed less than a Golden Retriever. But it highly depends on the coat type. If it's a straight coat F1 Goldendoodle then it still may shed a lot.
I love golden retriever the most in all dog breed but I found that I had dog fur allergy. Not too bad but noticeable. Then I found golden doodle was the perfect breed for me. I want F1 because it's 50-50. But also curious how much shed will be. It must be less shed than pure breed golden retriever ?
🐶 F1 Goldendoodles are the most likely to shed and they may even shed the same amount as a Golden Retriever. You would be better off getting an F1B Goldendoodle or F1BB if you have allergies. I have mild allergies and do fine with my F2B Goldendoodle (same Poodle % as the F1B).
If you want a F1 standard goldendoodle, I would suggest to find a female one who’s mom is a golden retriever and father is a poodle. Biostatistically, this girl won’t shed or shed very little. I got a F1 standard Goldendoodle girl and her dad and mom are standard poodle and golden retriever respectively. She doesn’t shed at all and all her female siblings barely shed (very few of her brothers still sheds). I made this decision before discussing genetics with my friends who are medical doctors and vet. BTW, I have asthma. Remember: all doodles need to be groomed regularly. If your doodle doesn’t shed at all or barely shed, you need to brush your dog’s hair as often as possible. I brush my girl’s hair almost every night before she goes to bed.
It really is a bit of luck too. I have an F1 Goldendoodle and he doesn’t trigger my allergies or shed at all. But there’s no real way of telling for F1’s unfortunately.
Look into a breeder and the litters that they have had. I also love the Golden Retriever the most and I got an F1. Her father is a golden colored poodle and all of the litters look Golden Retriever color. the only variations are in the nose color being either black or brown. She needs grooming and trimming but shedding isn't a problem and house members with dog allergies aren't having any problems.
I don’t know. I supposedly have a F1b mini golden doodle but he has straight hair and looks just like a golden retriever. Sheds like crazy but I wouldn’t trade him for anything. He’s 50lbs and very smart.
I have got a golden doodle. Her name is Molly. She’s a love bug she can’t get enough love in affection that’s a real name. I have the one has the wavy hair not the kinky one . We love her dearly. This is a great companion her body is a 50-50 Chihuahua. That means the Chihuahua has it naked belly with freckles and the rest looks like a bad hair Day of a long-haired Chihuahua, and they get along extremely well.
cool info just got golden doodle didnt know anything about this f1 and f1b stuff he is golden doodle dad and looked like full golden retriever mom. so far he isnt shedding much he is about 17 weeks old but he defiantly takes after his mom with slightly long strait hair
So whats the deal if you want to make sure it has more personality traits of the retriever since its a more docile and friendlier dog yet you want the least shedding possible.
Get a poodle backcross and make sure you play with all the puppies in the little and choose the one with the friendliest temperament. All the puppies in the litter will have a different personality.
I understand the nomenclature of P, F1, F1b, F2, etc., but one thing I have not been able to find is what is the proper nomenclature for a pup whose parents were both F1b? I've also been told that the F1b designation is only for 75% poodle and 25% golden. What, if any, would it be for 75% golden and 25% poodle? Looking forward to your answers.
Typically F1B x F1B is an F2B. Sometimes it's also called multi-gen - you'll need to clarify with the breeder. Yes, sometimes F1B is 75% Golden and 25% Poodle. Basically when an F1 is backcrossed to a purebred Golden it's that type of F1B. This isn't very common, but you should also ask the breeder of the parent dogs.
We have had 2 F1 Goldendoodles. Both were black like their Standard Poodle Mom, absolutely beautiful, so majestic looking. Chance will be 6 yrs. old in June and still has so much energy. My husband and I are seniors......and though we love the Goldendoodle, we don’t believe we have the stamina to raise another puppy. Are the F1B’s less energetic?
I think size has a lot more to do than generation. If you get a mini they will have a lot less energy. Maybe you should also consider a Bernedoodle if you want a larger dog? I think Goldendoodles have a lot of energy in general.
This is hard. Coats can change over time once they lose their "puppy coat". You can't really 100% tell which kind of coat you dog will have, but they tend not to vary too much. Make sure you get the puppy coat that you want. You'll notice that some puppies in the litter will have wavy, curly, or straight coats. Also, coats tend to fade at least a little bit over time.
Great video. Thanks for the explanation. With all the emphasis on the benefits of the poodle genes, why not just get a poodle? The video did not cover why the hypoallergenic, non-shedding, curly haired, more intelligent poodle gets crossed with golden retriever at all.
People like the temperament of Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers. I do agree to some extent that you can get a poodle and they are very similar.
I always wondered the same thing. I never got why people don't just get poodles. IMHO they are better than Golden's in every aspect. You have to groom them just as much, so that doesn't matter. The poodle comes in more colors, Comes in different sizes, they are smarter, tend to have better genetics, they don't drool as much, don't shed and can hunt just as well as a golden. The only thing I see is personality, BUT most trained poodles are just as loving and friendly as Goldens and labs. But I may just be bias because my whole family has ever owned Goldens except me😅
@@idontdiscriminateihateever6017 I for one don't particularly like the way poodles look so a golden doodle was a compromise between myself and the wife. In the past I have bred labs so I'm familiar with genetic traits being passed on- both good and defect- and I didn't want to have purebred with breed health problems. IMHO, you have your IMHO and I have my IMHO and it's wholly unsurprising that we have differences of opinion just like dog breeds have different traits.
@@Donb1233 Agree. My F1B is better looking than a poodle. More square and less pointy muzzle. Eyes are more expressive. Body and legs are more muscular. Ears aren't as large and floppy. Also personality is friendlier and less aloof.
Hi we are planning to buy puppy first time owner but we can't decide between F1b or F2 b mini goldendudle what generation is shedding less and also be a hypoallergenic any tips ?
In terms of genetics they would be the exact same. F2B is more multi-gen so if it’s a reputable breeder they should be able to predict size and coat a lot better. You can’t really say one will be more non shedding or hypoallergenic though since they are technically the same percentages.
It depends on the generation of mini Goldendoodle. I'm assuming your Mini Goldendoodle is an F1 (bred from a 100% Poodle and 100% Golden Retriever). If he's backcrossed to a 100% toy poodle, then it would be an F1B. However, if your mini Goldendoodle generation is different from an F1, then the title would be different. Hope that helps!
We bought a mini goldendoodle does this still apply for the minis? Or is it different? The boutique we bought him from never mentioned whether he was f1 or f1b and now I am curious and wish I knew lol
Hi, I have a 8 month old F1B Goldendoodle and he already shed his puppy coat, but he's still shedding on a regular basis. is that normal? He has a wavy coat. Thought he would not shed much or not shed. Would he shed less in the future as he ages more? Thanks
Was he backcrossed to a Golden Retriever or a Poodle? F1Bs can either be 75% Poodle or 75% Golden Retriever. It shouldn’t shed that much if you bought from a reputable breeder. Generally they won’t shed less as they age especially since the puppy coat is gone. Wavy coats do tend to shed some though. No dog is 10% no shedding.
@@WeLoveDoodles he is 75% poodle. His mom is full poodle and dad is a goldendoole. After he shed his puppy coat. He still shed a little bit but manageable. But now, he is shedding again at 9 months old now.
It depends what generation. For instance, if you breed a f1 Goldendoodle with a f1 Goldendoodle then it’s an F2 Goldendoodle. If you breed an F1 Goldendoodle with a Golden Retriever it’s still an F1B Goldendoodle. It’s usually called a Reverse Goldendoodle since you usually backcross with a Poodle and not a Golden Retriever.
Yes this is still F1B. It’s rare for a breeder to backcross to a Golden Retriever since they shed more. Typically breeders backcross to a poodle since they are more hypoallergenic and nonshedding. We love golden retrievers though
I just put down my beloved dog a few days ago. I'm still in a lot of pain and trying to get out of the deep stages of grieving. Me and my wife got him 12 years ago before we had kids or a family so it just stings that much more I guess.😔. One thing that lifted our spirits yesterday was looking at golden doodle puppy videos. We have always wanted one. Now that we have this huge void in our lives, we're seriously considering getting one. But how do you find a trusted breeder? I'm in southern California. Any help or links you can direct me to? Thanks for the knowledgeable video!
I’m so sorry for your loss. Our blog has a lot of tips and options. Just know Goldendoodles are in high demand and there’s tons of backyard breeders. There’s also tons of scams going on there fake breeders will take your deposit. Make sure to do your research!
Thank you for the great explanation. I have an F1B goldendoodle That’s five years old. We just tried breeding her with a 100% golden retriever. Do you have any information on what this combination would produce as far as health benefits, characteristics etc.? Thanks
Hm. It’s a little unusual to back breed to a Golden Retriever since the offspring will be 50% Golden Retriever and 50% Poodle. There’s a high chance that the puppies may shed. Otherwise, it’s wavy coats and the same temperament as a normal Goldendoodle.
There is really no hypoallergenic dog, scientifically. This is just a marketing thing. The allergies come from the dog protein in their saliva and skin.
My Dogs mom was a Golden Retriever & his dad was a Golden Doodle. What does that make him? Half the litter was Retriever & half were Doodles. He's a Goldendoodle.
Which generation of Goldendoodle was the dad? If it was a first generation Goldendoodle then it would be a reverse F1B since it was backcrossed to a golden retriever.
I'm so obsessed with this breed of dog, Thank you so much for the breakdown😃 Im looking for a puppy so we can raise him and i would have a companion when the children are away for school. All and any help is welcomed!!!!!!
Yes, it would be an F1BB if backcrossed to another Poodle. Anything after that would be multi-gen. Typically breeders won't double back cross though because you would just get a Poodle at that point.
I have an F1b standard Goldendoodle

I brush my doodle many times per day. As I just keep a brush handy.. So far no matts
You have a double doodle. That’s the typical name.
F1 is the way to go. We have 2 from two different breeders. Neither shed at all. Like at all
No way!! Waddup voiceover man! Learned so much about law during police interactions from this voice
I have a Goldendoodle at home! This is awesome content!
They are so sweet and adorable
I have an F1 goldendoodle bitch who is a medium size and I decided to let her have just one litter. We mated her with an excellent miniature poodle and she produced 6 beautiful healthy puppies (F1B's). The puppies are now almost 2 years old and the owners have kept in touch with photos etc. They are all very much smaller than their mum and non-shedding too! If you are looking for a smaller, non-shedding goldendoodle, I would highly recommend an F1B.
In genetics F, filia, means offspring/generation. It is used in genetic charting also among pure bread dogs.
Who is the voiceover artist on this vid? I recognize his voice from other completely unrelated channels. Like ATA.
The first few months are the hardest but it will all pay off!
Im picking up a Pyre=doodle tomorrow!!
This sounds like the same narrator as “Audit the audit”
Yes. Good ears. It’s the same guy :)
Why not just get a poodle if you're going to get a dog thats almost 75% poodle
@@fireclaw90a51 Almost certainly because they like the personality of the Golden. We’ve had both Goldendoodles and Poodles and prefer the Goldendoodle.
@@fireclaw90a51 I agree with comment above. Although the dog is 75 percent poodle but it still has a lot of the personality of the golden which I love which is why I went with.
Thank you for sharing your video with us. ❤️
So much clarification between the two of F1 and F1B. I am thinking of getting a Golden-doodle in couple of weeks but can’t decided on which ones; whether a male coffee/ coco or a creamy white with blue eyes female. They’re 6 weeks old sooo cute and It is a little pricey though.
Yeah Goldendoodles are expensive due to the high demand. They are great dogs though. Get one with more poodle genetics if you don’t want shedding!
Great content!!!! :)
Yes! We highly suggest grooming every 8 to 12 weeks to prevent knots, tangles, and mats.
We have all 3 f1 goldendoodle a f1b goldendoodle and a standard poodle. Love em all, we got lucky with no shedding in all of them.
you are a legend! the pack must love you.
Well presented. Thanks
Thank you so much for the support! 🙏
This was GOOD INFORMATION for me because I want one.❤🥰❤
Awesome!
What about mini goldendoodles? Do they also fall into the F1 and F1B or do they have their own specifications?
Yes, mini Goldendoodles are the same. The size of your dog (mini, medium or standard) does not affect the generation of your dog! 🐶
I have a f1 golden doddle i love him so much and so easy to train
Yes they are a very smart dog breed!
We have an F1 and she’s such a great family member!
Does she shed a lot?
Great information! Looking forward to more videos!
Excellent video thank you
Good info, Thanks !
Thank you for the support!
Super informative
Thank you!
Thank you for the info. Great video!
What is the difference between a micro a mini and a standard Goldendoodle? I have a micro Goldendoodle. Is that an f1b?
I don’t know. I supposedly have a F1b mini golden doodle but he has straight hair and looks just like a golden retriever. Sheds like crazy but I wouldn’t trade him for anything. He’s 50lbs and very smart.
How much are miniature doodles that are females?
The going rate is $1,500 to $2,000 depending on the coloring and size.
Mine is a mix of F1 with a pure breed Golden Retriever- so the breeder told me my F1B is 75% golden retriever.
How is the shedding on your F1B 75% golden retriever?
I have an F2B. His parents were an F1 and an F1B.
I can’t wait to see my F1b mate with another F1b to make plushy Goldendoodles 🐩 🐩
Our Goldendoodle, Kona, is also an F2B! He doesn’t shed :)
Is this the same voice as audit the audit?
Yes! Good catch!
Sounds like an amazing dog 🐶
What do you get breeding golden doodle with another golden doodle
Depends what generation Goldendoodle. Most breeds would classify it as a multi-gen Goldendoodle.
I’m laying down with my little puppy right now its a nine months old golden doodle F1
cool info just got golden doodle didnt know anything about this f1 and f1b stuff he is golden doodle dad and looked like full golden retriever mom. so far he isnt shedding much he is about 17 weeks old but he defiantly takes after his mom with slightly long strait hair
How about a bernedoodle and golden retriever mix? Thank you.
Hi! You would just call this a double doodle. There’s no official name for it :)
So much info to process, my mind is spinning.
I want a 50+lb dog with a teddy bear look once full grown. I’m okay with clipper cutting. Advice?
Yes, they are typically groomed with clippers, scissors, and then you brush them out.
What's a Goldendoodle mating with a Goldendoodle breed called?
It depends on the generation. An f1 Goldendoodle breeding with an f1 Goldendoodle is an F2.
I want a goldendoodle so bad but man 5000 and up for a pup seems insane 🥺🥺
I agree. We got ours from a reputable breeder before the pandemic for $2000. Their prices are now $4000+ 🤯
Found ours in Slc Utah from a breeder for 700 just a week ago, it’s a F1Bb 85% poodle, 15% golden. So much fun!! Named him 🚀
Good explanation.
Thank you! 🐶
My F1 goldendoodle is curlier than F1B and no shedding. Perfect for us.
From a puppy of the f1b does the slightly wavy coat get curly as the puppy ages or can u tell how the coat will be from a puppy ?
My boy has a mom that is mini golden doodle and dad that is mini poodle. Which mix is this?
It depends what generation the Goldendoodle is. If the goldendoodle is an F1, then when you backcross it to a Poodle it would be an F1B.
@@WeLoveDoodles thanks for fast response I really appreciate it
Is there a title for a mini goldendoodle bred to a toy poodle? Ty for the video?
It depends on the generation of mini Goldendoodle. I'm assuming your Mini Goldendoodle is an F1 (bred from a 100% Poodle and 100% Golden Retriever). If he's backcrossed to a 100% toy poodle, then it would be an F1B. However, if your mini Goldendoodle generation is different from an F1, then the title would be different. Hope that helps!
I’m an f1b golden doodle mom n my baby is black with curly fur. Her name is willow.
A spoodle is the best they are so easy and adorable
Can you do content on sheepadoodles? OES + poodle
Of course! 🐶
We bought a mini goldendoodle does this still apply for the minis? Or is it different? The boutique we bought him from never mentioned whether he was f1 or f1b and now I am curious and wish I knew lol
Yes, it’s the same, regardless of the size of your Goldendoodle! :)
@@WindKid22 hopefully i dont have the same problem with the one im getting do their coats get curlier as they age ?
@@davidilijevski8942 he's still shedding unfornately, but his coat isn't getting more curly. Still nice and wavy. We brush him on a regular basis.
@@WindKid22 ooh i see thanks for the information
Thank you SO MUCH for explaining this to all of us!! I always hear the term but never knew what it meant!
What is it called if you breed a golden doodle with a golden doodle or what would it be if you breed a golden doodle with a golden retriever ?
It depends what generation. For instance, if you breed a f1 Goldendoodle with a f1 Goldendoodle then it’s an F2 Goldendoodle.
If you breed an F1 Goldendoodle with a Golden Retriever it’s still an F1B Goldendoodle. It’s usually called a Reverse Goldendoodle since you usually backcross with a Poodle and not a Golden Retriever.
How about parents are 100% Golden Retriever and F1 Golden doodle? Are they still be considered F1B?
Yes this is still F1B. It’s rare for a breeder to backcross to a Golden Retriever since they shed more. Typically breeders backcross to a poodle since they are more hypoallergenic and nonshedding. We love golden retrievers though
I know this narrators voice… but which channel is it from… are you the audit the audit voice?

@@WeLoveDoodles
It's actually not 50% golden retriever, but 62.5% if you calculate correctly ;)
@@maxmustermann3876 you’re right!
@@WeLoveDoodles wouldn’t it be 75 percent retriever since the f1b is half retriever
@@alexandriafoster52 No. in this case it’s an F1BB since she’s backcrossing an F1B with a Golden Retriever. It’s 62.5%.
What if you breed 2 F1s together, and both the F1s inherited more of the poodle hair that’s curly and sheds less and more hypoallergenic?
You can breed two F1's together. It would just be an F2 with a wavy coat.
Ok now I know I habe a F1B goldendoodle, thanks.
There is really no hypoallergenic dog, scientifically. This is just a marketing thing. The allergies come from the dog protein in their saliva and skin.
You are correct. However, there are definitely breeds of dog that are more hypoallergenic than others due to the amount of shedding.
I know 2 people that have labadoodle. They are so pretty, big and cute.
My Dogs mom was a Golden Retriever & his dad was a Golden Doodle. What does that make him? Half the litter was Retriever & half were Doodles. He's a Goldendoodle.

What if F1B cross breed with another poodle? F1BB?
Yes, it would be an F1BB if backcrossed to another Poodle. Anything after that would be multi-gen. Typically breeders won't double back cross though because you would just get a Poodle at that point.
