FINALLY! A breeder who is completely honest about this mixed breed dog. This is a breath of fresh air. So many breeders of this type of dog stress the “cuteness” of the dog and overlook the underlying personality. I appreciate this.

Having raised multiple doodles a helpful tip with grooming is that we tend to request that the groomers do not put perfume on our dog because we have found over the last 15 years that it is the primary source of ear infections for the dogs we’ve had. Cleaning their ears is so important especially after a day at the lake.

Omg thank you!!!! I'm a dog groomer of 3 years and to be honest alot of groomers are not fans of doodles and it has nothing to do with the dogs but with the owners, a lot of doodle owners want a fluffy dog but are unaware of the maintenance in between grooms and so when we shave a matted doodle we get a bad label as we are lazy and we didn't want to take the time to brush out their dog. A lot of groomers do not like shaving dogs but when owners expect us to brush out weeks or months worth of unbrushed coat we simply cannot do it in just one day. It is uncomfortable and painful for the dog and it's a lot of wear and tear on our bodies.
I also appreciate that you mentioned training, the salon I work in we do have a few well trained doodles but there are a good number of untrained doodles and it can make our job even more difficult so training is definitely important.
Pricing was another thing that I'm glad you mentioned, clients want us to do all this grooming work for low prices and they dont realize that doodles are one of the most expensive dogs to maintain, grooming wise. They have a lot of coat that needs to be properly taken care of and for the haircut a lot of ppl want it takes a lot of time and skill to make them look perfect. I'm very happy you made this video and I hope it will shed a light on future doodle owners.
    Thank you

@@Quon6810 both ! constantly brushing dogs throughout the day on top of trying to brush out weeks of an unbrushed doodle is a lot of work on our wrists and back. even using the blow dryer tends to ache our hands. many of us see chiropractors regularly, dog grooming is a very high demand psychical job and working on bigger breeds like doodles can lead us to carpal tunnel down the road as well as shoulder pain. im only 21 and i experience a lot of shoulder and wrist pain after grooming more than 2 doodles a day. as for the pups we groom, if a dog isn’t regularly brushed at home they will end up hating being at the groomers because they have to endure a long lengthy groom. having a dog that is properly brushed and not matted cuts down the time for the dog by a lot !

Thank you for your candour. I purchased a goldendoodle thinking I would have the time and energy to raise it right and also have 2 small children. I couldn't do it. She was smart and beautiful and needed way more than I could give her. I should've never gotten her or any dog. We rehomed her almost a year ago and will not be getting another dog for a long time if ever. I learned you can love animals and dogs and not necessarily own one.

We have always had German Rottweilers, we trained ourselves. Our Doodle went through Something that made him RUN!! behind our legs. (Dog store). We're glad we saved/rescued him. Thank you for getting the message out, because most dont do their homework. Well our baby is trained. He brings in the mail, he gets his towel if he's paws are dirty. He sits behind the steering wheel so he can see you at all times. He took to training when we got him home.

I got my Goldendoodle in February and everything you said here is so accurate. You have to be willing to give them so much time and energy because they really love exercise and mental exercises. They really do thrive off of that! And the doodle hate! It’s ridiculous. I always wondered why people were so hateful towards doodles. They are so loving, smart and their personality is amazing!

I watched this video both when deciding on which breed to get, and now that I have Aspen, my little dood. My goldendoodle is now 10 weeks old, and the only hate I've seen is online. Outside of the internet, either no one knows what a doodle is, or they have said awesome dogs. The only actual disparaging comment I got was someone who was rabidly against the purchase of any puppy from breeders as opposed to shelters, but that would have happened regardless of which dog breed I purchased.
Everything you said is holding up. My dog is pretty high energy, and quite mouthy at the moment. I'm glad that I mostly work from home, and can walk to my office when I do need to go in, because she's such a handful. I take her on 2 40 minute walks a day (vet ok'd it), and she's still super hyper. I'm also glad that you mentioned the grooming, because it was something we made sure to budget for when deciding between a goldendoodle and a border terrier. Ultimately, even though she's still a crazy little puppy, we're so glad she's part of our family now.

      @whenhen 5 месяцев назад

@@chelseacorbitt7926 she’s great. The only health issue we have had was due to her eating something that caused an infection. That could have happened to any dog on the planet.
She has certainly mellowed out a lot since her puppy days, but she is still full of energy whenever I want to take her on a walk, hike, or just play fetch with her. A couple of things that have helped us to save money were buying a grooming table and professional level, dog, shaving kit, as well as a double showerhead, so that we can give her baths. When I was on active duty orders for 10 months, she kept my spouse company. I don’t know if my wife would have been able to handle being alone for that period of time without my dood.
She’s also much easier to train than the dogs I grew up with, or that my wife used to have before they passed. What took three weeks for my previous dog to master, took her a few days with largely the same training methodology.

We recently adopted a 9 month old. I felt I asked all the relevant questions about her personality, good behavior/bad behavior, crate trained, shed level, comfortable with a busy household etc. Boy was I wrong.
Our doodle barks /cries non stop when in her crate, she is not friendly , she won't eat or go potty unless your standing next to her . Ive tried leaving her alone in the backyard to play. Nope wasnt happening . She jumped through our sunroom screen window.
Just in case your wondering, I am FT at home, so she gets walks approximately 30 mins. We live in texas so its a morning walk. I spend about an hour, sometimes more with her outside . I break it up into 15-20 minute sets. I work on basic commands or just play time , throwing her toys around with her . If i dont give her attention she becomes insanely clingy.
I would have thought after 9 months some of these personality traits would have revealed themselves and the owner would have shared more. I am not pointing fingers simply sharing my experience. Every dog is different, I know. Do your homework maybe visit w/an owner of a puppy doodle and an older doodle if you can find someone. Even asks if you can dog sit. It might help make the right decision for you/family before taking the step of doodle ownership.
We are working on rehoming her . I feel encouraged reading all the positive posts that we will find the right home soon.

I think doodles are amazing dogs I mean all dogs are amazing and sweet if raised correctly, but on breeding I strongly agree to disagree, I am into show Longhaired Dachshunds and preserving their breed and I have seen terrible outcomes from mix breeding on them so maybe I am biased. I am very happy that people are producing healthy and happy doodles but like Bailey said, they are getting really popular and that opens up the doors for irresponsible breeders that claim to be responsible and some very dark temperaments come from these dogs. Still I purchased for my Dachshunds the Badass Breeder Guide, and by the looks of the program Bailey uses, it is an excellent program. So don't be discouraged by our ways, you keep it up, and keep raising healthy babies for families who need their hearts touched by a furbaby.

@@Elidarias but all doodle breeders are bybs. simply because they breed off standard, theres no guaranteed outcome of the dog, most doodle breeders dont health test and the parent dogs are never good either. no reputable breeder will allow their dogs to be used in making mixes. doodles also dont show nor are they rarely used for sport. you mix 2 dogs that were bred to work to produce an offspring that goes to mostly pet homes. its why so many mixes have issues, because the people who buy them dont give them proper needs or training. plus theyre overpriced asf for an untested, no standard or regulation on structure or temperament, and have nothing to show for in conformation or working. you can get a doodle for the same price as a puppy from a breeder who titles and fully tests their dogs. bottom line, doodle breeders and mix breeders in general are never reputable and doodles have no purpose either. if you want a mutt, rescue, youd get the same quality dog and you would be saving a life :)

I own two goldendoodles, and a lot of these problems can be solved by owning two. If you are not an active person but have a good backyard, the two of them will romp and play with each other and get all their energy out entertaining each other. When you are gone, they keep each other company in the crate if you get a huge crate for them. When you are gone they comfort each other and comfort each other at night. But no one should be out till 10 o’clock just the same if you have any dog, just like she says. Getting two dogs it’s not a substitute for humans, it just helps quite a bit. The only problem is super bonded dogs that you do need to make sure they are alone sometimes so they don’t get so bonded that they start to grieve to death when one of them has to go for surgery or something . But for dogs that crave relationship, this is a breed that really benefits by having two

Lol, me again … I want to thank you for your commitment. As I said earlier I used to raise Labradors for show and obedience, later Standard Poodles for obedience. So when I went looking for a golden doodle breeder I looked for someone who bred their doodles as a purebred breeder would … health and temperament. The breeder had all the vet papers to show what tests were made for their health …. I would not have gone to the true ‘backyard’ breeder for that very reason. It’s funny what you said about doodle haters, as I was expecting that from my purebred breeder friends and did not get that … but what I thought was even neater was how many doodle owners were at the professional group dog training classes we went to. So hang in their folks whatever your doodle mix is, I think people are getting more used to our beautiful ‘designer dogs’ as they are also called 🐶🥰

Hey there dog groomer here! So many doodle owners that come in don’t realize how high maintenance and how expensive the breed is too. They need to be on a 4-6 week schedule to maintain there coat and be brushed throughly daily. Most the dogs that come in to my salon pelted with matting are doodles, and it’s just so sad because this is just bad on the owners part for not researching or caring. A lot of backyard doodle breeders come in with there dam (female breeding dog) and it’s awful how matted and disgusting their privates are. When you buy your doodle, ASK TO SEE THE PARENTS! If the dog is in a bad condition don’t buy the puppies and don’t support these awful breeders!

My doodle thinks his way is the only way. Until he hears his commands. The 3rd day I had to change his food and he was a actual happy pup. They need great food. Poor things mat so easy I brush mine every other night, and he goes to the groomer! But he’s being trained to be my therapy dog and all the hours of training paid off the other day when 911 was called. They are incredibly smart! Mine can get out of any situation. Mr Houdini! They are at feet all the time. I trip constantly. Also size in the same litter and hair in the same litter. Mine is very different from his sister who is owned by my sister. I did my research and was still shocked by my big guy! Keep the great breeding up!

    Hi Bailey:
This is a great video. I'm relatively new to your channel, have only watched a few videos thus far and left one comment I think. I work for a small rat terrier breeding program and we would give many of the same tips--about exercise, training, structure and routine etc. We also have a thorough screening process and like you, we interview our interested families. I'm not at all a Golden or any kind of Doodle hater; I don't see myself having a Doodle in the immediate future because I can't maintain the grooming needs plus as much as I like both breeds, I'm more of a GSD and rat terrier person. I don't consider myself a breed snob though, and I don't understand those who are. Everyone who wants a dog has different needs, and there are going to be good and not good breeders in all breeds.
There are plenty of not-so-great Doodle breeders out there but there are plenty of really good ones... I think it's great you made this video and educated people because yes, people use all kinds of buzz words to sell their dogs and many have no business producing dogs. It's frustrating.
Anyway, I respect what you do and I love that you have a focus... you're not just throwing a bunch of dogs together and producing several breeds with questionable qualities. It's great you're working toward a particular standard you want, and i look forward to learning more about your program.
I'm glad to see some Doodles working as service dogs, too. My breeder and colleague is a service dog trainer and has trained several Doodles. If one chooses the right one and puts the right kind of training in, one can have a super smart service Doodle.

He gets plenty of exercise inside the house for at least 20 minutes 3 times a day. We run in the backyard and play fetch everyday. Now, we are working on the biting and pulling leash issue. Yes the criticism is real, y’all! My mom works with a miserable lady and when she found out I got one, she said something snotty about not buying a dog that much and then said she’d rather rescue. Well, I’ll be honest the worst dogs I ever took in were prospective rescues that came from other homes and they were rough. One bit me and beat my dog up. 😢

Thank you so much. This is really helpful. I really would like a golden doodle myself, however I do have school. We already have a family dog that is a sheepadoodle which is 2 years old. However when he was a puppy, my mom was a stay at home mom. Knowing a golden doodle takes up time which i’m willing to take up my free time on the dog, if I got it in the summer, would it still be reasonable to get the dog?

  • @Luvvieeee

Ok. I already have a old small (ish) dog. We are trying to get a golden doodle. We have a doggy door, huge back yard, a large variety of places to sleep, a great environment for it, lots of free time to take care of it and spend time with it, and my dad is the only who who works at the moment so my mom and me is there all day. We also have experience with big (ish) dogs. We having been planning this for awhile. My only worry is that my old dog wont like the golden doodle or maybe the golden doodle will be to rough on him. Any tips?
Edit: also, I love dogs, I love any dog, so I will be giving my time to this dog. My family is good on money so we will take good care of it money wise. We also are planning to get training for it or we might train it ourselves.
Edit: sorry for the long comment but the short answer is: is a google doodle gentle on old small dogs?

I don’t have a doodle but rather a standard poodle puppy & can 100% agree with you on all of these things! I had done some research before getting our puppy but puppy training and the time & energy it takes for just one puppy between my husband and I is exhausting! Our Murphy finally got all his vaccinations so we’ve been able to take him out and to burn some energy. But def be prepared to loose some sleep for a few months ! All in all obviously worth it , but you’re by no means exaggerating on the time, energy & money on these adorable pups. We have spent so much money ( easily 1-2k) between vet visits, food, toys and all the other necessities for a new pup.

I also got ticked with the food thing … I raised Labradors for years, then had 4 standard Poodles after that … then one last Labrador … kept each one til they crossed the rainbow bridge. NEVER had a dog that was picky about their food. Labradors are gulpers … but I wondered if because I had more than one poodle if that was why they ate so well … I don’t know. But, lol, I can tell you the issues we had trying to find a dog food our golden doodle would even eat. We are talking quality dog food … still having to add juices and freeze dried toppers to get her eat. She weighs in at 54 lbs as a 2 yr old. Asked breeder about it and she said that was one of the traits of a goldendoodle. She has been on the same food now probably since she was 9 months old. I just ordered some high quality raw freeze dried food for her and she will eat right out of my hands with nothing added … I will use it for 1/2 her food as well as topper as it is expensive … but at least I know what she will eat with no extras … am very excited about this new find.

I’m rewatching this after having my goldendoodle for 1 year and laughing because people definitely don’t get it! She actually has to get groomed every 4-5 weeks because her hair grows soooo fast! And she’s now on a raw diet due to so many issues with food just in this year. She requires both mental and physical stimulation daily. She loves to have a job! And yes daycare has been a lifesaver. She’s a different dog when she doesn’t go to daycare. Just love this channel! ❤

Just have to say you are so right about saliva … I used to raise Labradors and had five at one time …. but one of them if I played with her or she came up to greet I had to immediately wash my hands … if I forgot to and rubbed my face or eyes … I swelled up and had to keep wiping face and eyes with cold clothes as well as take some meds just for that one dog.
I now own a 2 yr old golden doodle whose parents are both golden doodle, so I just wanted to add another thing I heard …. Maybe you are not allergic to your doodle, but because of their coat … who knows what they bring in the house with them from outside that you are allergic too.
