I'm Romanian and I want to thank you for the sincere promotion of my country! However, Romanians have always remained hospitable to foreigners. That is the defining feature of this people!!!😊
So many cars and people on that road nowadays! I remember the first time I was on the Transfagarașan in 1975, not so busy then! Breath-taking, spectacular scenery and drive ❤️❤️
Hi, guys! I am romanian and I live in New York. I have been in all of those places you have shown in your videos. I really recommend you to visit the historic monasteries from Bucovina, a region which is in the north/east of Romania. There is nothing like it in in Europe. You will love it!
I think Romania is one of the beautifull country in the Europe. Many people say that Romania is God's country because because it has all the forms of relief and not only. I hope you will visit most parts of Romania!
The Transfăgărășean was constructed between 1970 and 1974 during the rule of Nicolae Ceaușescu as a response to the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Soviet Union. Ceaușescu wanted to ensure quick military access across the mountains in case of a Soviet invasion. At the time, Romania already had several strategic mountain passes through the Southern Carpathians, whether inherited from the pre-communist era (the DN1 and the high-pass DN67C) or built during the initial years of the Communist regime (the DN66). These passes, however, were mainly through river valleys, and would be easy for the Soviets to block and attack. Ceaușescu therefore ordered the construction of a road across the Făgăraș Mountains, which divide northwestern and southern Romania. Lower section of the road Built mainly by military forces, the road had a high financial and human cost. Work was carried out in an alpine climate, at an elevation of 2,000 metres (6,600 ft), using roughly six million kilograms (5,900 long tons; 6,600 short tons) of dynamite, and employing junior military personnel who were untrained in blasting techniques. Many workers died; official records state that only 40 soldiers lost their lives, but unofficial estimates by workers put the number in the hundreds. The road was officially opened on 20 September 1974, although work, particularly paving of the roadbed, continued until 1980.
I went there with my parents when it was just a gravel road.. quite an adventure. I only saw military vehicles on the road. We had to get out of the car at times as our old Moskwitch needed an occasional push. We also had to stop a couple of times to let the engine cool. One section was impossible to navigate in forward gear, even with pushing (well, I was 8 years old) so my dad had to drive in reverse, as the gear ratio was lower. After that trip, my dad decided to get a brand new modern car ... a Dacia 1100!

I have been to Romania many times, several times over the Transfag’ pass. The good thing is, they do not really push for foreign tourist, so apart from a few, they have the place to themselves. Albota trout farm hotel just to the north of the pass is a good place to stay, especially if you want to watch your trout being netted outside the restaurent window.
Awesome sceneries! The road trip is amazing. Do try all the Romanian dishes as you can. I really miss them, but looking forward to try them again soon. PS: DO NOT feed the bears and stay away from them in a safe place. They can be much more dangerous than cute.
Thank you a lot guys ! You are that type of unique and respectfull travelers who presents amazing places from different countries like this. 💚Thank you again for promovation of Transfagarasan Road in ROMANIA 💙💛🧡
thank you for promoting our country ... we Romanians do not know how to promote ourselves ... 30 years have passed since the revolution ... but we still live in the past. From a simple Romanian citizen THANK YOU
Really enjoyed your Romania series. So much so that my wife and I just booked our trip for next month. We are doing 11 days. We are flying in/out of Bucharest and plan on doing a road trip. Based on your experience where would you go, in what order, and for how long?
I know the question is addressed to Sammy and Tommy but as you didn't get an answer yet, I can make some suggestions: you could go to Sinaia and visit Peleș Castle and from Bușteni you could visit the Caraiman Cross. Then you could visit Brașov, the medieval fortress of Râșnov, Bran Castle, please also admire the viewpoints from Moeciu and maybe even the Dâmbovicioara Cave. Then you can turn around and continue the road to Sibiu. From Sibiu you can take the Transfăgărășan Route just like in this video and you can also stop at Curtea de Argeș Monastery on the road. Depending on your time availability you can also visit the medieval city of Sighișoara. You need to rent a car, but please be careful while driving here, some people drive like maniacs and like there is no tomorrow. Of course these suggestions can be tweaked up and down, depending on your own interests, but please feel free to ask if you have any questions or if you need any kind of clarifications.
Hi Donald! Wow , that is so awesome you guys are going to make to to Romania 😊 the comment above made some great suggestions , that is almost exactly what we did and in that order! Peles castle you just need the day to see it, we stayed in Sibiu for about 2/3 days but it can be done in less time. The Transfagarashan took us the whole day because we took our time but it can def be a half a day. Driving was a tad challenging but if we can do it , so can you! We hope you guys have an amazing time and safe travels 😊💖
I am so glad that you are sharing your experiences in Romania and making people wish to travel here! There are sooo many things to see, also the seaside and the Danube Delta, the Moldova i heard has very welcoming people. Glad that you visited Timisoara! All the best wishes!
hei, guys! i'm very delighted that you visited our country! and ye, you guys...saw one of the most beautiful place in Romania! keep going! there are a lot of beautiful places to visit!
@@SammyandTommy I second that suggestion, I've been on both the Transfăgărășan and the Transalpina, and I prefer the second slightly more (the scenery is more dramatic in some areas, and there's something special about being above the cloud line). There are valleys and canyons which are very scenic, even though the road is not as famous and marketed as the Transfăgărășan. The best way there is from Sibiu through the high altitude villages of Poiana Sibiului and Jina, both worth a stop and a walk (and a museum), down through Dobra, and then onwards on the Transalpina toward Rânca.
This guy is right. Transalpina is a MUST see. The whole driveway is top quality so you will love it. It will open later this month, before the Transfagarasan road.

@@SammyandTommy ,the only viable work of god, the essence of life on earth is creation.EVERYTHING we do in our lives is to leave a mark on us.I am in no way, neither bigger nor smaller than you or others. For Romanians it is vital to show travelers and foreigners the country in which they live, to UNDERSTAND what they are fighting for, to accept that they must get out of communist lethargy and LOVE this BUT called ROMANIA .Because it is.For you, the eyes and the mind that marvel at many hidden and undiscovered parts of the world, with parts of uniqueness and from which WE CAN all learn. We are on this unique land and I hate to accuse ourselves of nonsense and stupid idiots who instead of bringing people together make them hate each other .. for nothing.Your path is a pioneer but it is so full of the desire to know the world, to bring us, from parts of the world, to the same level, to KNOW each other. That way you become just a link between people.Ignorance and human stupidity make us stagnate and hate each other ... and YOU will break this wall.GO FURTHER ..only if you know the world, I'm not talking about people hiding behind a laptop who refuses to look at netfilx and see real life, people as they live. It is essential! I lived in America and I returned to the bears, to Trans-Fagarasan, to these poor Romanians tormented by distrust, fear of them, to Izvor and the root of a people who suffered enormously to begin today to believe in its value . The history of the Romanians and of this country is more blood than peace. I was, as a nation, a shield against many imperialist desires ... and yet the Romanians have been here .. for thousands of years. It's our piece of land, and we didn't want anything from anyone ... just to live in peace and continue to make our sarmales and our little ones. I have always been happy to be a guest and I made him feel nothing but joy when he stepped on the land of the Romanians and to feel at home. WHEN they came with the idea of conquest .. I had spikes for everyone. This is the mystery of a people that wants to evolve, that has EVERYTHING from God and that obliges us, today, to keep this unique and beautiful country ..and which you have only seen in passing. What I wish for you. For man alone is the brake of involution. Please go ahead, if that's what you want. Wait, build, and in a year you will see the profitability of YOUR WORK. I am totally with you and I support you because you leave traces on this earth ... and here is God. Getting out of the comfort and hypocrisy of today, giving up a sterile life with makeup, silicone and horsepower in the car means changing the world .. today, sick, pathetic and who wants another life .. TRUE. You have it, you create it, why are you afraid? Clearly people are on a great scale and change. You are the pioneers who bring clarity to the polluted minds of many. God Speed or in Romanian Go with God ..and one day when you will be on the peak ..you will understand your. And please do something else.
Lower section of the road
Built mainly by military forces, the road had a high financial and human cost.
Thanks for the great info 👊 That’s really sad that many people died building this road 😔
@@SammyandTommy also Vidraru Dam was built between 1961 and 1965...still on duty nowadays like you seen...
ESPECTACULAR vuestro viaje a Rumanía no lo vais a olvidar nunca, muy felices se os ve... BRAVO

Thank you again ❤️🥰 Wish you all the best 😘
Our pleasure Mihaela 🤗 Thanks for the recommendations! We will have to do that our next trip to Romania! It looks amazing 😍 Thanks so much for watching!
Lucky you to have been so many times! Thanks for the recommendation for our next trip 👍
BBC topgear did a tv program at this location some time ago.
You picked the best time of the year to visit Romania. It's so green and full of flowers and the temperature is just right.
We were very lucky no doubt! Thanks for watching!
Awesome sceneries! The road trip is amazing. Do try all the Romanian dishes as you can. I really miss them, but looking forward to try them again soon.
PS: DO NOT feed the bears and stay away from them in a safe place. They can be much more dangerous than cute.
Thanks so much! We plan on trying a lot more dishes during our next trip! We appreciate the tips and thanks for watching!
Thank you a lot guys ! You are that type of unique and respectfull travelers who presents amazing places from different countries like this. 💚Thank you again for promovation of Transfagarasan Road in ROMANIA 💙💛🧡

My beautiful country, I miss it! I was there, it's a wonderful place. Thank you for visiting Romania.
It really is! Thanks for watching Cosmin!
We hope you guys have an amazing time and safe travels 😊💖
how was your trip? hope you had fun
Hi Dani 👋 We agree so many beautiful places to visit 😍 Thanks for watching!
You should really try Transalpina sometime if this landscape took your breath away! :)
Yes it looks incredible! Added it to the list ✅ for our next road trip! Thanks for the suggestion Mihai!

Thank you very much for promoting the tourism in Romania. Great videos like this one have a big impact. It is indeed a beautiful country with stunning landscapes. Don't forget to try the Transalpina road. You will be amazed. Rânca is a mountain resort situated on this amazing road and it is a lovely place where you can eat, get a room or buy souvenirs. Oasa dam is also a beautiful place (On the Transfagarasan road you have the Vidraru dam and is awesome ) situated on this driveway. Oh, and this is the highest road in Romania.

Sammy, I love you. You are the embodiment between femininity and life. So natural!
Tommy, you have a "woman" by your side, and when I look at you, I'm sorry I'm old.
I am happy for you and I wish you a beautiful life and NEVER to give your routine and the hardest moments of life on the window.
You are young, beautiful, free and as a man who has gone through this life .. NOTHING WITHOUT LOVE. The rest is just a transition to nowhere.
Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful, poetic comment 🤗 This made our day and pushes us to keep creating! Thank you! @@SammyandTommy ,the only viable work of god, the essence of life on earth is creation.EVERYTHING we do in our lives is to leave a mark on us.I am in no way, neither bigger nor smaller than you or others. I KNOW that we are people who need an answer for what we do .. whether we continue or not.I KNOW that in this age of access to information we are still so small and ignorant. It is a romantic period in which we discover ourselves as people, folds and habits. We fight with many prejudices and many arrogance to be the way we are.
Love and be totally possessed.Chain bodies and minds, seek total love in you Do not break up, do not accept gossip and filth from the outside. YOU ARE A FORTRESS ..impregnable.
WHERE LOVE IS NOT, IT'S NOTHING!
I bow!

12:45 Next time you get so close to wild bears, stay in your car for safety. There has been situations when people fed them to close and the situation got dangerous. Be careful for your own safety and just in case, if a bear does harm to a human, the bear gets shot!!, which we don't want . Been around the area lots of time and its breath tacking. All the best
Thanks for the tips Valentin! As soon as they got close, we were way too scared to be anywhere outside the car 😳 More importantly we definitely don't want to cause any harm to those beautiful bears. We appreciate you looking out for us and the bears! Thanks for watching friend 🍻
@@SammyandTommy those are wild animals and you being alive after staying so close, it's luck. No chance for you to harm them in any way. There have been a lot of cases with tourists being slashed because they want to see them closely. Take care

@gaby I'm gonna practice then. I don't want to miss any of those because I couldn't order them! 😅
@gaby Thanks for the info Gaby! We struggled to pronounce it as well 😂 It makes it much easier to see it in writing. I am getting hungry just talking about it 🤤
@gaby Kürtős kalács has nothing to do with "curte". Kürtő means chimney in English or horn in Romanian. It comes from the shape of the pastry.
My country is very butiful !
