update: hey it's Tashé! i’m an American currently living in Germany and i’m just enjoying life while sharing some parts with you. I previously lived in Milan, Italy as I was studying to become a fashion designer but that didn’t go as planned and now i’m in Düsseldorf! welcome to my channel 🌸

As one fashion girlie to another I’m very excited to see your journey in Italy! You’re personality comes off very warm and sweet. I took fashion design for three years in high school ( would of been four but I transferred my sophomore year and came back junior year.) I for sure wasn’t the best in my class but I don’t care I actually learned how to sew and I loved the illustration assignments more anyway. Fashion is still and will forever be a love of mine and I’m bringing to my content. I didn’t go to college for fashion but I always love to see what the fashion students are up to.

I love that you also don’t have experience with a sewing machine, I’m going into business fashion and I feel so behind that I don’t know much about sewing. It’s so hard to learn a little later than others

@@bellesiricord it was the environment for me. Milan ultimately wasn’t a good city match for me and I couldn’t force myself to live there for a full 3 years. Learning the language was fun, though and something I was super interested in

Believe it or not, Airbnb! It’s much different here in Milan. People are used to international students coming here to study so:
1) hosts allow long term stays
2) there are apartment agents on Airbnb looking for tenants to fill up apartments
I’ve encountered both and have currently lucked out with the Airbnb I just moved into. It’s the same situation as renting an apartment - the host and her husband have their own separate apartment, but own this one and just rent it out to people via the Airbnb app. I have a few other roommates and I have the option to live here for as long as I need, just like renting an apartment but without the deposit fees and written leases. But of course, I will be moving into my own apartment once the housing market settles down again (be aware of that).
I would also recommend you getting an Airbnb for at least a month, so when you get here you can apartment search in person. Too many people I know signed a lease while they were home and then moved into a nightmare of an apartment and were stuck with it for the first year. I would also recommend starting your apartment search AS SOON AS you get here. They fill up super quick and it’s a major headache.

@@zaafirhussain1501 no problem 😄 when you’re looking for an Airbnb, put your stay for at least a month and always message the host (they also prefer that) before you confirm any bookings. There you can talk about how long you may need to stay, talk about the possibility of extending your stay, etc. A lot of the time too people will request to do a private contract if you’re staying with them long term so don’t be afraid if someone mentions that but also listen to your intuition.
Rent here is expensive, but Airbnb’s are much more affordable if you’re willing to live with roommates and will be renting just a room versus the entire apartment.
In Milan, apartment companies ask for 3x the monthly rent as a deposit and you usually have to pay a 100% commission fee to the apartment agent who helped you, which is usually the amount of a full month of rent. So, for instance, say you found a studio apartment for €1.200. That means you’ll have to pay €4.800 to move into the apartment but of course you’ll get your deposit back if there are no damages done to the apartment when your lease is up. You don’t get the commission fee back, though. Does that answer your question?
