The transition of this into "The Trees" was absolutely PERFECT! .. in fact, I think this should always be the prelude to "The Trees", it just fits so perfectly.
The tone of this had such a richness to it 💯💯💯 They are so multifaceted just amazing ❤❤#redheadedneighbor #bestreactor #redsarmy #beautifulfuncountrygirl #heartofgoldwithmetalinhersoul #38K #rush #rushreaction #rushcrush
"Broon" is a nickname for Terry Brown, their first record producer with them from their first album until Moving Pictures. After MP they self-produced their own albums and/or used guest producers they wanted to work with. They felt they had evolved as a band and were continuing to evolve and the break from their collaboration with Terry Brown was needed to explore the new sounds they wanted to try. This song is a tribute and a bittersweet goodbye to that collaboration.
Um, forgive me, but, Broon’s Bane was recorded more than a year before they parted ways-as the previous person pointed out, that was after Signals, and sometime in 1983 before they started their next album-with Terry Brown, so, whilst it was a tribute / in-joke to Terry, it was not a goodbye, bittersweet or otherwise, I’m afraid. Have a great day.
I heard that this had always been the intro to The Trees and Alex wanted to keep it on the album but Terry 'Broon' Brown said the intro was the bane of his existence and ended up cutting it from the album. Then it came back. I read that decades ago... not sure if true.
By 2112, at the latest, the name 'Lifeson' should have been mentioned in the same breath as Hendrix, Clapton, Gilmour, Beck, Page and (slightly later) Van Halen, but somehow it never happened. Monumentally underrated player.
Omg i haven't heard this in such a long time.. great tune! ❤ Like always.. 🎉 Darn you i didn't see the movie you saw the other day. 😢 Hope you enjoyed n had fun 😁
In a band with two other influential and virtuoso musicians, I always felt like Alex took a bit of a back seat to Neil and Ged. Appreciated by the public, but not necessarily revered. He’s been my favorite guitar player for a million years now and I’m really glad you recognize his brilliance. Maybe “Hope” next?
Seeing this live in 1983 was so magical- what a brilliant classical guitar introduction. I spent a long time learning this before there was any transcription available. I remember there were some strange 7th chords (to me at the time) with other unique voicings and unusual positions. This track peaks into the Talent of Alex Lifeson and one can imagine what other tricks are up his sleeve being held back and/or never being recorded on record. Learning their music on guitar as a young teen was quite a challenge, I owe so much to them for my own music and still listen to them all of the time. The message in their music is universal and is always relevant. The Magic of Rush lives on! Happy New Year
An album of all acoustic material by Alex is loooong overdue! Every time he goes there, it’s gold! Hope, Omalley’s break, this, Western Sunset, etc! C’mon Lerxst!
Yeah, well, it _didn't_ stop there either! 😄 It goes straight into 'The Trees' (as you said) which in turn segues into 'Xanadu'! 😀 Those three together are my absolute favourite Rush recording! 😍 It's weird to me to hear 'Broon's Bane' by itself like this! 😅 I'd shared it with a renowned classical guitarist from the UK recently, who liked it a lot and said she may even try to play it herself! 😀
That was great. Sounded almost kind of medieval too. Maybe the person could upload their video to their youtube channel so you could react to it from there?
@@mattmid7012 - It _is_ possible that it was played also during later tours, but I have never heard different versions myself. The 'Exit...Stage Left' concert video only contains a veeery short snippet of it, and Geddy himself said that the company who'd filmed it didn't store any extra footage, sadly. *Edit:* Just saw this in another comment: m.ruclips.net/video/91C-_EmxuSc/видео.html
This was the first tour I saw them and as soon as I heard first one chord then a couple notes later on, I knew The Trees was next and I was a happy, happy man. Great review Red and thanks for doing this one
One of my new years resolutions for this year is to not watch reaction videos on youtube. However i'm making an exception for you because your wonderfull and so is Rush(:
This song isn't that difficult to play to an average standard. But Alex always played it so clean and full of dynamics and emotion, and it's beautifully composed.
Jimmy Page isn't that great if you just think about how difficult things are to play that he came up with, but it's the coming up with it that is the genius and also how you interpreted your own work.
I love this album cover, it has in it. the images of the Owl from Fly by night, the dude from the hemispheres cover, and the girl in the long skirt from the original cover of Permanent waves. Beauty eh.
Happy New Year, RHN! Thanks very much for this reaction. Love the fact that this piece struck you as Spanish style. Alex has so many amazing instrumentals to his credit. If you haven’t heard him really showcase his Flamenco-style talents to their fullest, prepare yourself…he does so for a blazing 5 or 6 seconds on La Villa Strangiato. Do yourself a favor. Listen to, oh, the first 15 seconds of LVS from Exit Stage Left. (Don’t watch any live video recordings. Most don’t have the crisp clarity that the album has). Ok, sounds great, right? Then immediately go back and listen to the original La Villa Strangiato recording from the Hemispheres album to get blown away by his flamenco talent. You will rewind and listen to it (smiling) over and over, guaranteed. 😃.

If you enjoyed this, you should watch the concert Exit...Stage Left. It's amazing, and the blend from Broon's Bane to the Trees to Xanadu is incredible!!
Hello, Pretty Redhead: Lightfoot fan here. When I was young, we were supposed to be flying around our space pods by 1980! Nice guitar work; thank you for doing this one.
I think this was inspired by Spanish classics like El Concierto de Aranjuez. Rik Emmet from Triumph showed similar influences (Embrujo/Play with the Fire come to mind).
Wassup! Nice guitar 🎸 So PLEASE someone introduce this Lovely Lady to A FAREWELL TO KINGS 🗡️ 👑 The classical guitar intro and the entire piece is simply magical. Don't know of any version but the album. "Can't we find the minds to lead us CLOSER TO THE HEART ❤️ Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
I like to joke that Hanna-Barbera lied to us with the Jetson's vision of the future, but they were actually honest, giving us an alternative in the Flintstones. And now, with the passing of time it seems that society is gravitating toward the latter vision, affirming Devo's observations.
May I suggest u watch Rush the track 'Hope' live on the 'Snakes and Arrows live' DVD... It's Alex Lifeson's solo instrumental track, similar to "Broon's Bane" ...
The best way to discover rush is to start at the begining and to learn and see how they grew and changed musically through the years starting with Rush the first album then fly by knight then caress of steel then a farewell to kings then hemispheres then permanent waves then moving pictures then signals then grace under pressure then power windows then hold your fire then presto onto roll the bones and then test for echo then vaper trails then snakes and arrows then finaly the last one Clockwork angels! And listen to them as they were produced in the studio and you could do 2 songs or 3 at a time on your channel you would then hav a massive following because people love rush they are just smart funny and true blue musicians that would by my suggestion I hope you follow it I hold love to contribute to help out but not sure how are you on Patreon?

BB is such a GORGEOUS piece! It oozes with melodious beauty!
Awesome … the layers Rush offers through their musicianship, time transitions and lyrics is simply phenomenal!❤
Simple story behind this really ...song was created by Alex as a tribute to Manager Terry Brown (Broon ) Produced 10 Rush albums plus this live album.
I heard that this had always been the intro to The Trees and Alex wanted to keep it on the album but Terry 'Broon' Brown said the intro was the bane of his existence and ended up cutting it from the album. Then it came back. I read that decades ago... not sure if true.

With the exception of Gilmour, none of them should be mentioned in the same breath as Alex Lifeson.
Very melodic, love it.

Broons Bain, the Trees, Xanadu.... to be honest, the songs i want to be buried to, morbid? Maybe but that's just me.
Today I turned 66 years old. To begin with Broons Bane is a treat. Thank you.
Happy birthday, and new year!

Alex took classical guitar lessons. Believe it or not, he's the only one of the 3 of them with any formal musical training.
Neil took drum lessons from a man named Don George when he was just starting.
