tough game! i think i'm still happy not going for overthrow, with both daggers r2 it was kinda a r3 setup from the beginning -> combat lured me to go for sm missed the bene bump first for intrigue and more info in r6 (at least noticed it later ingame so i didnt have to get mad now:)) but r7 i missed to place a spy from double agent, which i belive would actually win me the game (placing it on research station i would have drawn 3 on r8 and get tsmf, and then win by spice tiebreaker)
Could bounce have split up getting the money from shipping and getting the faction bump, to play opportunism in between? If so, he could have gone down twice with BG, and then taken his bump up with BG to get the intrigue from crossing the 4 influence threshold. That would have gotten him devour, and with a worm he would have gotten plenty of spice for tiebreakers. But shipping might be one of those "atomic actions" so I don't know for sure.
Question. If you can spare ONE troop is there ever a reason not to throw it into the mix to try for third place in a conflict. Worst case you at least force another player to spend more to win third.

I think generally it's probably ok, long as you know what you're gonna do with a loose spice or whatnot.
