This is my review of my Rad Rover electric bicycle.
I have rode over 4000 non commuter miles, and have enjoyed the bike so much I have bought three now. (One was stolen out of a security building)
I now have three batteries. And three chargers
    Lights www.amazon.com/s?k=flashing+b...
Special thanks to James Bond and his review on the rad rover. It has been very helpful to me.
I have found by adding an extra 2 batteries has given me unlimited options for me. With a rear view mirror and a drink holder it has become a wonderful way to experience my travels effortlessly.
    .
Skid Plate off eBay is a awesome protection. www.ebay.com/itm/193633866074...
4000+ miles so far no issues as of 2/10/21
I have traveled to Anacortes Washington, Darrington Washington, Ocean Shores, Jackson Hole, Yellowstone National Park, Victoria BC and Chehalis to Raymond Washington.
My favorite app is “bike maps” $5, it has really opened up a whole new level of fun that I did not know existed.
I cannot more highly recommend this product.😎

      Good morning Rick,
I tend to run on high power and don’t try to save any battery life. It’s not perfect it slips off every once in a while going over big bumps but hey that’s why we ride fast and take chances.
      Have a great day👍

There's a scenic bike-route between Multnomah Falls and Hood River that I'm really looking forward to riding once I get my ebike at the end of July. I'd like to put a couple extra batteries on it, to extend the range, since there's a bunch of smaller waterfalls along the scenic highways.

Rad say dont charge above 2amp because it keeps the life of the battery to about 5 years of use, more amps will degrade your cells faster. I do it, I charge at 3amps on a Grin 'Satiator', and Ive had my battery for 3.5 years, and I can confirm that the Grin charger handles the battery management system (the circuit board inside the battery casing), with precision over the long term. I'd recommend a Grin Satiator as your very first accessory over everything else.

Thank you. How do you go from the Grim xlr plug to the rad type plug? I am not a electrical engineer but how do you know it’s not hurting the battery. Rad only suggests manufacturing specs. Which as a business owner I understand.
      Any input would be appreciated.
      Cheers!

      www.amazon.com/Cycle-Satiator-Programmable-Electric-Battery/dp/B00VB2BXGG
Now it takes me overnight or 7 hours 14amp hours divided by 2amp with Rad Charging
With Grim it takes 5 hours 14amp hours divided by 3 or 5 hours charging with Grim Charging

I agree with you. But I’m 65 now and I’m just a wimp when it comes to riding so I stay on the flat bike trails and this bike is more than enough for my needs. I know I look 22, ha ha ha, but if I was I would definitely buy a high-end bike, or just build a killer one. When I purchased these they were only $1600. And I have gotten over 5000 miles on them. I think that’s a great deal. Thanks for sharing.👍

I have both full suspension and hardtail e-bikes from Haibike. Riding the street only, with some graveI , I find rear suspension is really not needed, Rear suspension can add a lot of weight and also removes some of the "sporty" feel on pavement. There is definitely a place for hardtail eBikes.

I like your set up 👍
I’ll be following some of your videos .I just purchased a parallel connector and a couple other adapters from AREA 13. For my black bird, I’m going to have a total of 47 amp/hrs.
By adding a 30 amp hour triangle battery, which I’m going to hang in a bag on the side of the bike pretty much hanging off the back rack . If that works out, I’m thinking about adding a second 30 amp hour battery. And then get rid of the 17. once I get to 30 I should increase my range up to about 100 miles instead of 37 miles on the existing battery. That will be definitely nice for my future tours of Michigan’s rails to trails. I plan on hammock camping along the way.

    Nice bike set up.
I know what you mean about batteries, you can never have enough juice. I put almost 11k miles on my Ecotric hardtail with no suspension and I am on my 3rd battery. Instead of buying a 4th, I just bought an AWD ebike with a 22ah battery. It blows away my 36v Ecotric, it also goes 35 mph to boot LOL Rode 40 miles yesterday and still had 1/2 bars, rode today 30 miles and still had 3/4. They say it will do 60 miles and I believe it. I will test it this spring. I was thinking about adding another battery, but it is probably not needed as I doubt I will ever do more than 60. If I do, I will just carry one in a bag or have the wife meet me to switch half way.
My wife has put on over 5k miles on her RAD and she still has the original battery. She usually rides about 10 miles a day, so she charges every other day so I think that is why she has had better luck with her battery.

I have a Rad Mini ebike. I have three batteries on the rear. I have three super bright lights for tunnels. I have 8 USB plugs. I have an Exstream siren for trying to take my bike. I have better mirrors and two bars on the handlebar, for much more gear. I am setup to travel 70 miles, going up and down hills where I live. I just bought another brand new ebike to travel 135 miles with no peddling. For my new ebike will have one extra battery, $1,000... I am going to make a camping trailer next so I can camp two weeks before going to a store again for food. I do too much designing for my bikes. My current battery amps are 13.5 amps, my new ebike has 60-amp batteries. I have two pressure tiers meter one for ebike and another for the trailer. Nice to notice the tire air, it has helped me for a slow leak after 48 miles. I only had two issues on my ebike, but now it's perfect. I am planning to sell my Rad now, $2,500... Thanks!

I ride from Bothell to Issaquah on my Rad and use 2.5 batteries. My new bike will have 60 Ah batteries, so much easier and longer rides. I want to go to Cle Elum one of these days with my trailer. Running a trailer I never know it's on me, until going down hills easy. I hate Burke Gilman Trail, they are too bumpy going to Sandpoint, they had not fixed the trail after 45 years from Sandpoint to Index. I lived right at Sandpoint for many years. I worked at Dick's Market for 10 years. My bike is totally different than anyone else, but it did cost a lot and time to design. Oh, I have blinkers and brake lights, just like a motorcycle. I finally had one guy to chat while on the same trail now twice, it has been good. My best friend rides normal bikes and will tell end. I am wanting to start at Rattle Snake to Cle Elum, with someone else. Enough of me!

I'm in Seattle as well and looking to have a custom rear rack mount for my Rad bike. I also have 2 batteries, like yours but the DIY case I've built for them is noisy going over bumps. Could you by chance recommend a good place to mount them like yours? Nice video!

      www.pacificindustrial.com
      6.5” w by 12” long
I drilled 4 holes only, thru battery mounting. I attached directly with stainless steel screws from Ace Hardware directly onto Rad Power Bikes rear rack screws. Note I did flare the base of the stainless steel to accept the bump of the welded mounting screw receivers. I hope that makes sense, as you progress you will see what I mean. I had them cut it to size with there super Duper cutting machines.
Be sure to strap it down and put something in between the batteries if you do this, I jump a lot of curbs and I want it solid as a rock, and be sure to turn the switch on to full on. Because if you don’t pin doesn’t drop the full distance into your mounting bracket.
You will have to make your own mounting bracket starting with cardboard and out of whatever material works best for you, Ride strong, ride free
Measure twice cut once, Ha ha ha thanks for reaching out and good luck.

    • @BillCullins

Also note, the leather strap with the foam in between the batteries actually secures 95% of the load when I run the strap underneath the rack. I would not be confident without the strap or the foam in between the batteries. Does that make sense?

    • @quinnjohnson7084
      @quinnjohnson7084 3 года назад +1

Yes. Thank you for your ideas. I wish I didn't have to worry about thieves while I'm inside grabbing my groceries at night. Alas... I will probably make a hermetically sealed container to deter battery theft. It just needs to be insulated enough internally to not rattle around, I think 1 inch foam will work. Mine are to be permanently mounted and in parallel for longer range. Great share. 👍

So you didn't hook the batteries up you just use them as spares? And that's a pretty nifty rack that style of rack actually fits over your calipers? I was gong to buy that style but I was told they don't work for caliper/rotor brakes. Also, there are a lot of reviews for some of the racks that say they are flimsy and will brake if going over bumps or if you overload them. They are not made equal at all. Even the more expensive ones can fail.

    • @BillCullins
      @BillCullins  2 года назад

It’s just the standard rack from Rad.
It’s really solid I’m very happy with it. The only challenge is when you get panniers the hooks have to be wide enough to accept the rack.
I had a previous bike stolen with panniers , and I just recently ordered the exact same pannier’s from Amazon.
      They were too small.
