Great video! Lots of things mentioned that other reviewers havent covered (10seconds controller startup time for one). Still rocking my Index for 3 years now and it looks like Imma stick to it.
Honestly the Pro's controllers are better. That 10 second start up time is surprising as mine start straight away, instantly tracking is amazing, form factor and build better than my knuckles imo. Haptic feedback is much better too.
@@biggles9604 first pair of controllers had drift after a year, got them replaced for free, for the new ones the same problem started happening a couple months ago. Also one of my speakers on the index was crackling from factory and they replaced that. I'm out of warranty now but it's still going.
For how much Meta has spent on all of this, it's extremely concerning how many steps they've taken backwards on the most basic aspects of the user experience, especially considering they're trying to market this to business users who mostly care about comfort and ease of use
@Iuli C have you tried the pro? I’ve used the bobo strap and in my opinion it sucks ass compared to the quest pros comfort. It comes down to the individual, but the direction they’ve moved in terms of comfort is the right one. It’s going to need to be lighter in the long run and the ergonomics need to be more adjustable, but definitely a step forward.
@Iuli C It is pretty obvious at this point Meta just can't properly handle comfort. They should just make the damn thing easy as heck to modify and focus on the lenses/screen/eye tracking/controllers instead. I consider Quest Pro to be a downgrade because it isn't as moddable as Q2
The headset is made in China too, I mean come on the Pico 4 can do better for $400 ffs. I guess the $1100 dollars extra is for the eye/face tracking and controllers...
@@astronautmanreal the finger tracking didn’t catch on. Hardly any vr apps are coded to use it. And it makes it awkward to play games that are coded for a oculus controller and grip button.
Thanks Mike, I've pulled my Quest 2 back out of the drawer as I've jumped into F1 22 in VR and it's amazing, I'd really recommend trying it although you'd need a wheel to experience it properly. Shame about the Questo Pro but I'm looking forward to your review on the Quest 3. VR is going to come of age VERY quickly, so happy to be experiencing it already. Love your channel brother
@@bat-amgalanbat-erdene2621 do you have locked horizon enabled in VR comfort settings? I've got 2.5k hours in SteamVR and rarely get nauseous and DR2.0 with locked horizon makes me almost instantly nauseous from all the bumps in the road, I have to play with it disabled. Also, racing simulators like Project CARS or F1 don't make me feel nearly as nauseous than DiRT since the roads are a lot smoother, in case you've only played DiRT Rally.
@@lexd0g I did enable that and that helped, still can't handle more than 1 game which is like 5min. Good to know that other sims are not as bad a dirt rally. Now I have been playing VR for like a month and feels like I got the VR legs. Maybe will try Dirt again (not gonna buy another racing game yet) but after I finish games such as Half life Alyx. But tbh, I play Echo VR so much nowadays don't think I have time for racing sims now haha
Such clarity and honesty, Mike - that’s why you are VR influencer No 1. While evenhanded, this review makes it absolutely clear that the Quest Pro is an overpriced turkey. Such a shame after the master stroke of the Quest 2, which made high-quality VR affordable for millions of people. Fingers crossed Meta learn the lessons in time for the Quest 3.
It's the most advanced stereo accurate MR/VR standalone/wireless PCVR device to ever be released to the public. There is nothing better out there that does it all.
I’ve spent about 40 hours using the Quest Pro, and I pretty much agree with everything you said but with one big exception. I have a gaming monitor for my PC, but I find myself preferring to work on my PC using the Quest Pro and probably even more so when Wi-Fi 6 is supported. This is not the case with Quest 2. The face tracking doesn’t work for me right now because I have a big mustache and beard. This results in me having odd lip movement and actually helped me win a big pot in PokerStarsVR according to the “villain.” I turned off face tracking, kept on eye tracking, and found that I could no longer wink, so winking is detected with face tracking. Like Mike, I had forehead pain after long periods of use. I now keep the headset much looser on my head-not tight enough for many of the games I play; however, I no longer have the forehead pain. The headset is noticeably heavier than the Quest 2 In standalone mode, I found it annoying that I couldn’t have two browser windows open side-by-side. I also couldn’t watch a live event I purchased because it was an Android device without an approved application. I wanted to watch a PPV boxing match while also watching a RUclips livestream of someone commenting on the fight, but this was not possible (as far as I could tell) without using a Link Cable and PC The Quest Pro has shown me that I probably won’t buy computer monitors in the future. The screen door effect is still there and annoying, but I easily see a future without monitors for those like me willing to use an HMD. Will I keep the Quest Pro? Absolutely. I will use it as my PC workstation once AirLink works with my router. I will also use it to watch movies when I’m home alone. Once Adobe, Azure, and Wi-Fi 6 are fully integrated, whatever that’s going to be like, it will only have more utility over time. I will still have to use my iMac display for photo and video editing, as the resolution and color isn’t close to good enough. Something weird: my dog won’t sit on the couch with me if I’m wearing the Quest 2, as she is scared of it. She doesn’t mind the Quest Pro at all; it’s as if she senses how connected I am to my real surroundings. Do I think casual gamers should buy it? Probably not. Developers? Maybe 🤷♂️. Meta employees? If Meta pays for it, absolutely. I typed this on my phone… hopefully this all makes sense
Increased animal friendliness is a feature set no other HMD developer thought to add before, Meta taking bold strides to make this is as sociable a device as possible.
7:07 Most of the people wrongly mix up black-and-white with gray-scale. Black and white images are so called binary images. Gray scale images use pixel colors in range somewhere from 0 to 255, but black and white pixles are 0 or 1 colors.
Here's my summation of the Quest Pro. Valve stated that the Index was intended to be the, "Ferrari of VR headsets." And that's what they delivered. An expensive, premium headset that was so ahead of its time we're still using it three years later. Then the Quest 2 came along, and sticking with the car analogy, was a Honda Civic. Sure, it didn't have anywhere near the features of the Index, but it was highly affordable, making your average consumer take notice of it. Then there's the Quest Pro. If the Quest 2 was a 2020 Honda Civic, the Quest Pro is a 2022 Honda Civic. Sure, there are tiny little incremental improvements, but the problem is that they're charging MORE than the price of a Ferrari. How they thought that strategy would succeed is beyond me.
Thank you for this... It's such a relief to have honesty. I'm a world full of FOMO this is a nice break... I'm happy to know I won't miss out and I can wait for quest 3😊
I'd like to see this compared to the Vive XR elite since they're about the same price after the new Meta price drops. Are you getting an XR Elite to review?
yeah I also do start having headache like 10 minutes after I'm wearing it. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. And you were the only RUclipsr to bring this up specifically. I guess it depends on the forehead of each person, or not everyone used it enough to complain about it, and I'm afraid this specifically (lack of comfort mostly due to the pressure it makes on your forehead) is one thing not so easily addressable and I'm not if any 3rd party company would be able to create a solution to that like they did to the poor headstrap from Quest 2.... Thoughts? tks
Great overall review. I'm happy with my Q2 but I'm watching these reviews to get a sense of what is coming possible in the Q3 and the industry overall.
Don't get your hopes up, you'll be using overly expensive hardware to use with the same mediocre software that looks like a beta Wii game. This product is crap.
@@MattH-l3i My hopes are set to... medium. ;-) I just played Red Matter 2 and it has an amazing look for a native app on the Quest 2. Now I'm sure there are technical issues why this may not be able to be scaled up for a shared world, but they need to try. Otherwise you are right on point about the Wii level graphics. Honestly, what are they even thinking over at Meta? Is anyone thinking? I think Mark is pushing for the metaverse too soon and without the right hardware to drive it all.
@@louissivo9660 with how advanced gaming is and how much money he has invested into his product, it's a joke how he can't develop something with more graphical fidelity or performance with what is not a new technology. Meta is loosing money by the millions thanks to the metaverse. Enjoy it while it lasts because it won't be around for long.
@@MattH-l3i He's actually losing billions, not millions. Looking at what other headsets have done I think for the consumer model (and cost) that side of the business did very well. It's a trade off between power and size/weight on one's head for a standalone system. While Meta might drive themselves outta business the industry I believe will last and be around for a while. They proved a market is there for games/apps (not the Metaverse) and others are following suit. Meanwhile it's rumored that Apple and Microsoft are working on their own solutions though leaning more to Augmented Reality. We'll see. But I think VR has a good future.
@@louissivo9660 yea i can see how you can be optimistic, it could have some good uses and some great games with the technology. Meta just have no idea what they are doing and are on thin ice trying to save an out dated company. Playstation and i think steam are doing some good work with VR so i'll be keen to see how they go, but meta is just hot garbage. You can have great hardware and if you put a lot of money into it the components can be of a high quality, but if the software stinks than it is just an expensive, highly technological paperweight.
The biggest issue for me is the binocular effect. It doesn't look like a flat panel. Instead you can see the black from the sides of the lenses. None of the adjustments solve this. The passthrough is also quite terrible. Putting it in the dock is a pain and taking it off is hard without loosening it every time. Lastly it sucks for laying in bed and watching Netflix since the battery is on the back.
I notice that too, as did Sebastian from MRTV. I had the Vive Pro 2 and its binocular overlap issues were so great that it made the headset look misaligned, with the Quest Pro I only notice it if I look directly left or right, or up or down, you can see it in the extremeties but not in the main display. I find that by wearing the headset higher at the back and lower on face, so that it touches the bridge of my nose the overlap issue effectively disappears and the FOV is enormous compared to my Quest 2 and G2. It's not easy holding it into position for long periods though, and I have to adjust it a lot. I think the overlap issue is a natural consequence of widening the FOV. The lenses position slightly further apart and slanted so that they don't overlap as well but the horizontal FOV is boosted.
@@kevinbrook7033 I have not tried it, but a lot of people said flipping the back headset pad over helps with comfort, and I looked at mine, and think it would make more sense for people that want the back pad lower on their head maybe. I also was not sure how to get the pad off, but I think I do remember putting it on. :) haha
Thanks for the review dude. :) I wasnt gonna buy one because its too expensive but knowing that its not worth it also makes it less of a drag. Gonna wait for quest 3 or get myself a pico or what ever is the best in 2023 :D
it is my understanding that the headset and hand controlers do not need to be fully charged to start using them. Additionally, it is my understanding that the headset and the hand controllers can be charged (also) while using them. You would need the wires to plug into them. it is also my understanding that this headset can be connected to a pc and run in PCVR mode with a usb-C cable just like a quest 2. And it is my understanding that the oculus software for the PC can run this headset. And I presume that also means Steam VR would also work with this headset.
What a strange review. Glad i didn't watch it before i brought it as this would have put me off buying one. Thankfully i brought one before as it's by far the best HMD i've owned. Comfort, clarity controllers is the best so far and my daily driver. (,i own a Q2, pico 4, index, g2, Varjo aero). I would say to anyone. Please try this first as it could very well be your favourite headset by far. Like it is mine.
Honestly, I’m still on the fence. I’ve used all that you mentioned except the aero and I don’t know, there’s something different about this one. I think it’s the lenses and the pixel density, it just feels better. I want to send it back and keep my money, but I can’t quite seem to do it. I don’t care for face tracking and eye tracking is for dynamic foveated rendering , but if they improve the pass through dramatically then it could be a glimpse of the future.
Hey Mike, you said you would return it, but how? Where in the UK allows returns just because you don’t like it? I would get a Pico4 but afraid if it works fine but I just don’t like it I’m stuck with it. Do you have a special deal?
I run a business focused RUclips channel and have covered VR a few times, I own 6 headsets at this point. In my previous employment I implemented VR for real time design reviews for engineering teams, set up with a Rift S which was the best available at the time, hooked up to a boardroom TV so the engineering team could view what was happening in VR. I've also used it for interactive sales presentations at expo conferences, in booths, and the ultimate plan was to implement global collaborative design reviews for remote staff. There's a lot of elements that go into those equations but the overwhelming factor for failure is if it's difficult to use, hard to set up & buggy. When teams need to meet they need to do it now, turn it on and go. Frankly speaking, VR has always had too many connectivity and startup issues which caused these non-technical guys to just throw it down and go with what they're used to, cos they don't have time nor the inclination to mess about with needy fragile tech. After looking at this, I'm not so sure it improves on the usability experience.
XR isn't a platform that anyone wants to actually use. Zuckerberg is an insane sociopath surrounded by yes men that want his money. Quest Pro is a hololense product from Microsoft bought by facebook to distract angry shareholders about Facebook's steep drop in value. I praise the day comes when Facebook is finally dust and zuckerburg is just another narcissistic billionaire throwing money away in a tantrum every time he gets an ego-check. Him and Musk will be just another Kanye sooner or later. Broke and irrelevant.
You’re so right regarding the way business use tech. If this was to succeed within most business there wound need to be a way to have it launch directly into workrooms and have the list of rooms waiting for you there. As soon as you have to do anything else, people will opt for options that are that easy. I’ve said it before. This is NOT a headset for business, it’s meta justifying the price of the headset by saying it is.
Hey Mike, I’m having a much better experience of the headset than you expressed in your review. Better clarity than Quest 2, much better FOV and the comfort is so much better. I don’t see much of the distortion shown in your video during passthrough. It’s a little grainy but looks great when in use and focusing on the activity in front of me. I really am enjoying open periphery VR in the Quest Pro. I didn’t think I would but not being shut off from the world is very powerful and works really well. The front and back pads can be removed, hopefully some come along that make hehe headset more comfortable for you. I found flipping the rear pad has helped with comfort 😅
@@olivercook2589 Thrillseeker just dropped a review that is way more positive, he thinks there could be two displays out there and some are getting an inferior panel as he thinks it the best LCD display he's ever seen.
Yes but the difference is probably less than the difference of price they ask. I really can’t see reasons to upgrade from a quest 2. My opinion of course.
I think people should stop complaining about it because we have nothing else, and the Quest Professional is most likely meant for higher tier companies, and it's mostly used to be able to be in two places at once. It'll eventually go down in price and more companies will be able to use it. Dumb but that's Classism for you.
Can you test these controllers in Quest 2? Like beat saber and tell how does it work in games and does those have any downsides compared to quest 2 controllers?
Thanks for an honest review and great content as always! As a developer I don't care for the headset, but the controllers are a must for next gen hand interactions. Far more exciting making games with those, as the current touch controllers are very limited.
@Benson his username is kidzorro he’s probably a kid that learned “hello world” and now calls himself “developer” not that it even has any connection to the rest of his comment..
I think a lot of people use the Quest Pro to develop new products not as a PC replacement. So yeah calling it dev-kit feels quite accurate. I work on software that allows using these devices for remote support and market research. The headset user basically joins into a video chat with a remote assistant. The assistant can see the field of view, the eye tracking and can mark objects. It is entirely hands free for the headset user. The Quest Pro doesn't have the pass-through quality I hoped for so this won't be enough for an actual product. For now I continue to focus on HoloLens 2
Just use Zoom. It's free, you don't have to wear a thing on your face and head, and you can literally use it anywhere without having to worry about a 1 hour battery life. Quest Pro is a e-waste product bought from Microsoft by an insane sociopath.
Is HoloLens dead? The MS partnership with Meta looks like an EOL announcement for both WMR and HoloLens. Is MagicLeap 2 a joke? I could justify getting a HoloLens dev kit, but I still have a hard time even thinking about buying a MagicLeap 2
@@noonebeer HoloLens 2 is very much alive and updated often. Businesses use it for training e.g. for using heavy machinery. A bit like a flight simulator. The screen is entirely transparent so the Quest Pro with its pass-through is no competition. It is not something for watching movies or playing games though. I haven't use the Magic Leap 2 yet but this seems to be the only real competitor for HoloLens 2
@@devluz you’re right. I forgot about the DOD contract too. Just thought internal MS politics would take it down just like how Boston Dynamics was dropped at Google
To be honest I prefer the rings on the Quest 2, just because if you ever needed to make slight adjustments you can actually have your thumbs on each ring while you adjust your headset.
Hello to all who read this, I been a long time viewer of his content here, and in my honest option 2 words fits to a tea for this his content here, Very Honest! See lots of his other content and can not give him a higher praise for the things he does here for us that own VR.
The comfort aspect is wild. Also good why so many reviewers are covering it. For me the comfort is one of the biggest reasons I love it, that and clarity. But for me, I might have a hard time going to Q3 if they stick with the Q2 head strap model because the halo support of the Oculus Pro is so much more comfortable to me than my Q2. The Q3 will be less front heavy luckily but with my Q2 with Elite Battery strap my face would really be feeling it if I wear it any length of time. With the pro I can wear it for a couple hours and barely even know it is on.
I am the same way, I guess people are just different. I prefer halo type straps that hang or float the HMD over my face. I get sinus headaches and if the headset is pushing on my checks hard it hurts for me after a little while. The area on my forehead the Pro sits on never really hurts for me, but I do have to readjust it if I do not crank it down a good bit. I want to also say that I was surprised that a lot of what makes the Pro actually comfortable to me is the fact the sides of the headset are open, I find I can use the headset for much longer and if that is a big plus for me! I been playing some of the AR games and I feel like I can spend more time in the headset with it being open and not stuffy, and I feel connected more with people around me while I play. It is a bigger plus than I thought it ever would be, and I am not sure the open sides would work at all with a NONE halo strap?
@@jeffdeprey6279 the MR config with it hanging in front of your face is such a game changer. At first I was bummed the full light blocker wouldn’t be available at launch but I have found the setup so immersive I don’t even use the side light blockers. I use it open. Not only that but for working out it is really nice having the extra airflow option vs Q2 and easily being able to see my feet and Apple Watch. Though side blockers would work well as a middle ground for immersion and functionality of seeing feet and watch. But having it off my face makes it feel great.
@@crealhiphop5808 the Halo strap on the Pro is completely unique and sits on the top if your forhead and a lot of people find that floaty feeling much more comfortable than a standard halo headstrap.

I own the Varjo Aero, the Index, the G1, G2, Quest 1 and Quest 2. The Quest Pro is by far my favorite headset. In my opinion the FOV, clarity, and colors put it ahead of all of them, including the Aero. I get that it's expensive, but to me it's easily worth it.
@@VK-wu2bt The Aero has an incredible panel and its resolution is unmatched in the sweet spot, but it also has a weird binocular overlap (to be fair that may just be my face) and a small field of view. It's very "scuba masky" and tethered. In contrast, the field of view of the Qpro is just huge by comparison and the entire lens is a sweet spot, with IMO about 90% the perceived resolution of the Aero. Clarity on both is amazing as are the colors. It really comes down to whether you prioritize a huge FOV (Qpro) vs almost perfect resolution (Aero). They are both great headsets and I can't wait until someone combines the Aero's panel with the Qpro lenses.
@@dirkfierce2525 Thank you for your insights! I've been eyeing the Aero since it was released, but the Quest Pro sounds like it excels in more categories. I'm concerned about some apparent "half-baked" features on the Pro such as too much pressure on the forehead, the strap being in the way of overhead headphones, and the same resolution as Quest 2. I'm definitely looking forward to when VR headsets have 4K quality per eye and above + decent FOV (could even be similar to what we have now). As long as the resolution is more life-like, I feel like the headsets will be significantly more immersive.
I love what you said in the end. Imagine if Meta made a high end PC headset again with all the technology they have developed over time. They could take a huge margin and sell it as an enthusiast device. I realize they want to get a billion people in VR, but now that over 10 million headsets are out there, it could help the high end supply chain of displays and optics to purchase that stuff. I don’t see what a PC headset would take away from them at the moment. Even if they were essentially selling a headset to use with Steam, does it really matter if they are taking a healthy margin and it’s growing the VR market/supply chain as a whole? I can’t imagine what sort of beast of a PCVR headset they could make for an MSRP of 1k
You got ripped off as you can now get it brand new for half the price you paid for it. I also have it and Mike got everything spot on in his review. I've seen so many reviews and can honestly say no one is as honest as Mike when talking about this headset.
You are one of two people that I've seen say that it is uncomfortable. Most other people, including myself, thinks it's much more comfortable. I would have commented that your discomfort might be an edge case considering the predominantly positive media sentiments regarding comfort. Then again, to be fair, as more and more people get their hands on the Pro it might become a more common complaint. Also I don't know why you said it doesn't look much better, the clarity bump, reduction in screen door effect, and absolute elimination of godrays was instantly noticeable to me the first time I put a Pro on.
The Meta Quest Pro color passthrough is probably the biggest immediate selling point of the new device, since games can take advantage of this almost immediately. The $1500 however is unfortunately way out of my price range, but if it were $800 I would seriously consider getting the Quest Pro.
@@btnhstillfire it's weird because I've watched other reviews for this quest pro and their passthrough seems to be a lot better. So this is the first one where there seems to be ghosting...
Hi, thank you for your informative video; much appreciated. Could you please investigate more details about the Pimax Crystal? I didn't see any review about this new headset, and it is rare and caught my attention...
Good thing I received the Pro first before watching this video bec. I actually liked it much more than my Rift S, Quest 1, Quest 2, Odyssey 1-+, Vive and Index. I find the comfort, color and setup just as good and some better. $1500 is about right, the controller alone has so much tech and cost $300. Software wise is still evolving unlike Pico’s solution to just release another hmd in a year rather than improving it. Pico 4’s advantage is its Price bec it’s just a chinese copy of the Quest 2 and Pro combined and they can reproduce/release them twice a year, they own Meta’s factory there for Winnie’s sake 🤪
Same! If I had watched this review before receiving the Pro I totally would've cancelled. It's by far my favorite headset so far... While pricey, I totally get why it's so expensive. Hoping to see many improvements over time.
Wasn't really gonna buy the quest pro anyways, mostly because its not even for gaming. I'm glad you can still play some games on it but still, a work related headset was not a good move for meta.
Excellent comments on the forehead support. I have an unusual shaped forehead and find the same problem with my vive cosmos, the original vive head strap was far more comfortable for me. Its a shame meta went with a non replaceable headstrap this go around :(
I bought the Quest Pro for gaming/simming ( I could care less about Enterprise and passthrough right now). I've spent ~2-4 hours per day over the last 5 days with my QP/rtx3090, mainly wireless PCVR with Air Link. I also tested PCVR with Link for 2-3 hours total and I've spent a few hours testing standalone mobile games (including the QP optimised Red Matter 2). First of all, I did not find it necessary to use the Oculus Desktop app beta PTC for either PCVR options (Link or Air Link) and I'm not sure why you did? This could be part of the problems reported by yourself and a couple other RUclipsrs. For me Air Link with my QP/rtx3090 worked fantastic and much better than with my Q2. In fact it even worked a bit better than my Q2 with Link, believe it or not, lol! I think that this is because the QP has more wifi bandwidth and possibly better encoding and maybe an improved wifi module. The + chip may have something to do with all this. Even with complex flight sims like msfs the performance with Air Link is very smooth at 40fps fixed and the clarity with dsll/quality is crystal clear. I don't think I'll ever be able to use my Q2 or even my Vive Pro1 (Etsy lens mod and Index controllers) ever again with this sim, or anything else for that matter, lol! As far as comfort goes, I agree with you completely. I've never been a big fan of Halo-style headstraps and the QP is no exception As a glasses wearer I found the included light blockers equally uncomfortable. The best fix for me has been to do a top strap mod, which included a soft Velcro pad over the QP front forehead pad. I'm also using my QP without the included light blockers with the lens full in. After using this that way for a couple of days it's very comfortable (no more red forehead marks) and I'm surprised how well this works. I really expected getting rid of the light blockers to kill immersion but this has not been the case for me, even with PCVR gaming with HLA. My 69.0mm IPD together with the lens full in seems to perfectly melt my eyes to the screens, but still gives me the opportunity to peek at the real work when necessary. It's a very unique experience and certainly eliminated any fogging, lol! I'm sure there will be a lot of 3rd party comfort and battery mods in the near future and I look forward to your take on these. I'll sign off now and just suggest to others that if you want the very best overall VR headset for both standalone and PCVR with Air Link, and can afford it, the Quest Pro is def worth considering imho. Thanks for your continuing support of everything VR mate and cheers.
It's interesting to hear your opinion. I bought this as a vr enthusiast and absolutely love it. I don't use the standalone much as use a gaming PC. I have owned a rift cv1, rift S, Quest 2, valve index, hp reverb g2 and a pimax 8kx. I have to say the pro for me atleast is the best of them all. I love the comfort, wireless gaming, controllers, tracking perfect even in the dark and the visuals are for me the best due to the massive sweet spot. It is a lot of money for sure but then the real ease of use has me sold on it and I imagine wirh updates it will only get better. There is a couple things I don't like, One being a slight binocular view when looking left and right and the other being the sound. Although it isn't bad I feel it lacks when compared to an index or g2. My summary is that I am very happy with it and enjoying Vr more than I ever have with any headset,
Great review. Thank you. Fascinating that the headstrap is so uncomfortable for you, as I don't remember you ever complaining about other Halo designs like the RiftS or PSVR. I guess they're much lighter? I work in a psychology VR lab and did consider buying one for our work but overall it just seems too expensive for very little gain (not to mention subpar passthrough). For eye tracking experiments, I think I'll be better spending our money on a Pico4 Enterprise.
@@Hitmeup389 Pico 4 enterprise review? Now I'm all excited :) Another thing that came to mind is that the Quest Pro uses Meta's proprietary eye tracking. I'm not sure how accessible it's data is beyond the basics of the Oculus SDK (e.g. simple gaze ray casting). By comparison Pico use Tobii which (although through a paid license) allows access to a lot of data which is incredibly useful for research purposes, like pupil dilation, heat maps, etc.
The controllers look great, but that IPD adjustment looks awful compared to the Pico 4's motorised adjustment. Do you really just fiddle with it manually like that, when the Pico 4 Enterprise will adjust itself automatically to your IPD? While I've no idea quite how accurate the regular Pico 4 is number wise, you can at least adjust it until you see the clearest image on the test circles. I'm comfortable in my choice of ignoring the Pro and picking up a Pico 4, at least until we get genuine next-gen standalone headsets.
Me too, I think most of us who have it really like it. It certainly feels like a generational advance to me, the most excited I've been about a headset in years.
Hey there, I am a web designer. I use the quest pro with the personal office in horizon work rooms to turn my laptop (m1 macbook pro) into a multi monitor setup. Its great! I could do this before with the quest 2 but the higher resolution, clarity and better colours make reading and editing alot better for my use case. Im not a fan of the comfort though as the pressure on the forehead isnt great, hopefully someone comes out with a third party solution.

Great FOV, perfect lenses with true edge to edge clarity, no glare or godrays whatsoever, no mura, it's pristine. The low resolution is a bit of a disappointment, I'd have liked at least 2160 x 2160 per eye but its still a huge improvement over every headset I've ever used. Still probably not worth buying for most people though, it will likely be replace within a year to 18 months as it really needs an XR2 gen 2 chip inside it. The resolution and poor quality passthrough are both consequences of it have a two year old chip. It's kind of weird that they didn't wait until the XR2 gen 2 chip launched as it would be a much better headset with that, but I guess they really wanted to get the technology out there into the hands of developers as soon as possible. I'm still enjoying it immensely though it's now my favourite headset.
The review we have all been waiting for. Great impressions Mike ;) I own a pro and absolutely love it. I can't afford a 4090 now but that'll have to wait until next year lol.
It's frustrating that the 4090 DLSS3 stuff doesn't work with VR, so no doubling of Frame Rates : ( If the 7900XTX or whatever it is called is 1.5 times faster than a 3090 which it looks like it roughly will be, I'll be taking a close look before shelling out the extra $600 for the 4090. Fingers crossed.
You know watching this, I'm starting to think other than the controllers, where did all the extra money go? This thing's basically just a quest 2 with better lenses in eye tracking, for over a thousand more dollars
The Quest Pro definitely seems like a headset solely for recouping Meta's losses from selling the Quest 2 at a loss, because the price is way too high for the small amount of features included. Sure, it has pancake lenses, but the Pico 4 does too, with higher resolution per eye. It has higher processing power, but not really any apps that need it or benefit from it. It has better, self-tracked controllers, but they have the same function as the Quest 2 controllers except some haptic motors. I feel like Meta should've either packed in more features, or just lowered the price tag to something like $1000. There's not really that many reasons that businesses would pick the Quest Pro over something like the Vive Focus 3, which is $200 less at $1300. Meta as a company is starting to fall, and I think this is starting to be reflected in their products. They made a massive leap with Quest 2, and brought VR to the masses, but lost tons of money doing so.
Agree, this should have been a Quest Pro 'Dev Kit', nice new tech to push business type software and VR/AR. Misleading for the price tag, after all the reviews the target audience isn't business or gamers. Target audience seems to be developers, wanting to get started building next gen software. Not adding 'dev kit' to the name and targeting a new customer base will scar the VR/AR public perception again, like the cellphone VR experiences did. First time VR/AR user 'business person' is going to pick this up, try one of these half ready productivity tools and laugh and consider it a joke and never look at VR again for 10 years.
Why would developers buy it? The only thing that it has and that PSVR 2 doesn't is its being wireless. It is inferior to PSVR 2 in ALL other aspects. But developers don't need it to be wireless. LOL
@@trumplostlol3007 It's the most advanced all-in-one device currently available to the public. It's a 6DoF standalone/Wireless PCVR/ 3D accurate mixed reality device with face, hand, eye tracking, all for the price of a Samsung foldy phone.
@@RogerEssigArtist Seriously, the "standalone" hype means nothing to me. I play most of my games sitting down. I only want to play the next generation of AAA VR games at the most reasonable price. I also don't need AR. Putting AR objects in my already messy house is just stupid. There is NO games or any real applications on it. You are wasting $1000 more on that color passthrough for no reason. And you are putting 200g more on your head. Maybe you are just too used to that stupid Quest 2 that is super uncomfortable. Quest pro is inferior to PSVR 2 in all departments, except that wire. And most people don't mind having a 4.5 meter wire that really isn't anything. You are paying $1000 to get rid of that wire and to get an inferior headset? Come on. Get a PSVR 2. LOL
If you still have your oculus quest one can you try to hook up the remotes from the oculus quest two to the oculus quest one headset?😅sorry if it has bad grammar.
From what I've heard so far I don't get why people would want this? It's far too expensive for what it is and at that point you should just buy a PCVR headset because they'll be better anyway, and depending on what one you buy, cheaper.
Hey how have you been man i just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work i love watching your vides you my favorite youtuber also it me dante from like a year ago lol but i wanted to say thank you for getting this headset even though you didnt have to it means alot have a good day man🔥🙏💯
In regards to productivity. A meeting spot like that would be ideal for me mates and I. We could use it to make a open space, like a dojo and one of us stream fitness routines, allowing us to workout together despite being thousands of kilometres apart. I think in that light, it could make that less awkward of working out by yourself if you're the kind of person that finds comfort in being around others doing a similar task/activity :)
Fantastic review Mike. Meta are in a very awkward place right now, and the direction they are taking are turning people off. Hopefully PSVR2 can re-awaken my VR needs.
Thank you so much for the review. I can and will hold off from getting the new set. I really love VR as well and hope game developers get just as creative as the VR sets are becoming!
I've seen many reviews on this headset but I've not seen one that said it was uncomfortable until this one. Most reviewers are happy with comfort. Weird.
As soon as mike mentioned the problem with comfort it opened the flood gates and many others then started to complain about comfort. But all the early reviews said it was comfortable. It just goes to show that there are far too many grifters on RUclips who only care about being first rather than being accurate. Mike did a good job showing them up here just by telling the truth.
I watched another review where they said the eye trackers assisted in IPD adjustment. As well as reading on reddit, it does help with the adjustment but not before they have setup eye tracking first.
Great video! Lots of things mentioned that other reviewers havent covered (10seconds controller startup time for one).
Still rocking my Index for 3 years now and it looks like Imma stick to it.
Has anything broken for you yet? My Index lost a base station within 5 days and the controllers are faulting after a year.
Honestly the Pro's controllers are better. That 10 second start up time is surprising as mine start straight away, instantly tracking is amazing, form factor and build better than my knuckles imo. Haptic feedback is much better too.
get it for the GF you can commit war crimes together
@@biggles9604 first pair of controllers had drift after a year, got them replaced for free, for the new ones the same problem started happening a couple months ago. Also one of my speakers on the index was crackling from factory and they replaced that. I'm out of warranty now but it's still going.
@@cappymashups8371 Very interesting. I know its not the same but I'm waiting on the PSVR2 with the fancy triggers.
For how much Meta has spent on all of this, it's extremely concerning how many steps they've taken backwards on the most basic aspects of the user experience, especially considering they're trying to market this to business users who mostly care about comfort and ease of use
Not even new software for it
Let’s how much they actually lose on top of how much they spent
@Iuli C have you tried the pro? I’ve used the bobo strap and in my opinion it sucks ass compared to the quest pros comfort.
It comes down to the individual, but the direction they’ve moved in terms of comfort is the right one. It’s going to need to be lighter in the long run and the ergonomics need to be more adjustable, but definitely a step forward.
how can i be a tester?
@Iuli C It is pretty obvious at this point Meta just can't properly handle comfort. They should just make the damn thing easy as heck to modify and focus on the lenses/screen/eye tracking/controllers instead. I consider Quest Pro to be a downgrade because it isn't as moddable as Q2
Thanks!
Thank you mate! []-)
It's absolutely unacceptable to have to manually adjust the ipd on a $1500 headset. So cheap. Unbelievable.
The headset is made in China too, I mean come on the Pico 4 can do better for $400 ffs. I guess the $1100 dollars extra is for the eye/face tracking and controllers...
Ipd?
That’s a nitpick and you know it.
And no full finger tracking controllers like the index
Okay, I just bought F1 22 (for VR) thanks to you and by chance it's 50% off right now. So thank you.
Driving sims always makes me so nauseous (played Dirt rally). But I play Echo VR everyday now for a few weeks
I have F1 and a wheel setup. Super fun. I should probably do a video on it at some point []-)
But tbh, I play Echo VR so much nowadays don't think I have time for racing sims now haha
thanks for the review!
I ain’t reading allat. We up tho 💯💯💯
It's the most advanced stereo accurate MR/VR standalone/wireless PCVR device to ever be released to the public. There is nothing better out there that does it all.
Mike you are the best VR youtuber and one of the main reasons is that you are very honest, thanks for that!
True. I was shocked how dishonest the other youtubers were, especially about the comfort which is terrible on this headset.
The headset is noticeably heavier than the Quest 2
In standalone mode, I found it annoying that I couldn’t have two browser windows open side-by-side. I also couldn’t watch a live event I purchased because it was an Android device without an approved application. I wanted to watch a PPV boxing match while also watching a RUclips livestream of someone commenting on the fight, but this was not possible (as far as I could tell) without using a Link Cable and PC
The Quest Pro has shown me that I probably won’t buy computer monitors in the future.
Damn dude you're tryna live in 2032 right now huh

Excellent review, in fact, the best I've seen so far thanks! Btw .. I love your dog 😍

I'd like to see this compared to the Vive XR elite since they're about the same price after the new Meta price drops. Are you getting an XR Elite to review?
I was waiting for your review. Thanks for this. 👍🏻
yeah I also do start having headache like 10 minutes after I'm wearing it.
You can have great hardware and if you put a lot of money into it the components can be of a high quality, but if the software stinks than it is just an expensive, highly technological paperweight.
especially when it seems like you will be tethered when using this device anyhow (charging it)
The biggest issue for me is the binocular effect.
Thanks for sharing your experience mate []-)
@@kevinbrook7033 I have not tried it, but a lot of people said flipping the back headset pad over helps with comfort, and I looked at mine, and think it would make more sense for people that want the back pad lower on their head maybe. awesome review mike! I love the genuine reviews that you do and dame the video quality is top notch
it is my understanding that the headset and hand controlers do not need to be fully charged to start using them.
This guy deserves a vr reward

What a strange review. Glad i didn't watch it before i brought it as this would have put me off buying one. Thankfully i brought one before as it's by far the best HMD i've owned. Comfort, clarity controllers is the best so far and my daily driver. (,i own a Q2, pico 4, index, g2, Varjo aero).
I would say to anyone. Please try this first as it could very well be your favourite headset by far. Like it is mine.
Pretty much the same as you with this. I love my Quest Pro and can't use anything else since picking one up last week.

Thanks for the real world experience mate []-)
XR isn't a platform that anyone wants to actually use. Zuckerberg is an insane sociopath surrounded by yes men that want his money.

What do you like more psvr2 or quest pro
Great point about the Varjo.
With the pro I can wear it for a couple hours and barely even know it is on.
just buy a halo strap for quest 2/3?

Why do you like the Meta Quest Pro better than the Varjo Aero?
Why do you have so many
You must be rich😂😂😂
I wanna know… if they send u this VR without paying… do u keep it or do u have to give back???
I love what you said in the end. Imagine if Meta made a high end PC headset again with all the technology they have developed over time. They could take a huge margin and sell it as an enthusiast device. I realize they want to get a billion people in VR, but now that over 10 million headsets are out there, it could help the high end supply chain of displays and optics to purchase that stuff. I don’t see what a PC headset would take away from them at the moment.
Even if they were essentially selling a headset to use with Steam, does it really matter if they are taking a healthy margin and it’s growing the VR market/supply chain as a whole? I can’t imagine what sort of beast of a PCVR headset they could make for an MSRP of 1k
great review thanks for the info. just got a quest2 like it a lot and was considering exchanging it for the pro.
Question: is it good for watching RUclips videos or any other streaming apps like netflix, disney, HBO, etc…

@@dtz1000 it's my daily driver. And i have got back to Meta and i have been refunded £499. I love my quest Pro. ♥
Would you know if the meta quest pro can access vrchat pc worlds without connecting to a pc!
Make that 3. After about a a hour I have to take it off. Didn't happen with Q2.
Comfort will be different for everyone. It’s the first headset in a long long time I just can’t bare to use more than 20 mins []-/
Great review, thanks!!
The Meta Quest Pro color passthrough is probably the biggest immediate selling point of the new device, since games can take advantage of this almost immediately. The $1500 however is unfortunately way out of my price range, but if it were $800 I would seriously consider getting the Quest Pro.
Did you not watch this video? The passthrough is TERRIBLE on the Pro. You wont be able to use that very long without having headaches.

😩 i want to get suckered in soooo bad but this review is so damn one sided somebody help what are the actual benefits from the Meta Quest 2 😣
Its a shame meta went with a non replaceable headstrap this go around :(
same. just added some comments about that above
Air link is terrible. Try D-Link VR Air Bridge. Seamless Wifi 6
@@kevdar5834 Ya, I'll probably give one of those a go if they ever become available to me in Australia via the Meta or Amazon stores. Cheers.

exellent review - conclusion bang on.
My summary is that I am very happy with it and enjoying Vr more than I ever have with any headset,
you could have tested the wireless PC connectivity if you had applied yourself. Others are able to get wifi6 going.
I'm comfortable in my choice of ignoring the Pro and picking up a Pico 4, at least until we get genuine next-gen standalone headsets.
got it, love it so far.
Me too, I think most of us who have it really like it. It certainly feels like a generational advance to me, the most excited I've been about a headset in years.
Same it's an incredible headset
Red Matter 2 has foveated rendering when eye-tracking is on and it brings it to a new immersion level. I cant wait for more games to build on this.
Gotta say, at 8:51, there’s a pretty big difference between those two images.
The Quest Pro has a resolution of 1,800 × 1,920 pixels compared to the Quest 2's 1,832 x 1,920 pixels
@@jafdell the Quest Pro has quantum dot technology in its displays.
The PPI is 37% higher than Quest 2 and the PPD is 10% higher. The pancake lenses let us see all those extra dots nice and clearly.
The image is sharper and it has way better contrast.
@@jafdell I have both and the Quest Pro has a much better visual quality than the Quest 2 overall. Running in PCVR mode at 5408 x 2736 via the official link cable it looks much better than my Vive Pro 2 and better than my Reverb G2.
Excellent review! Love this channel
The review we have all been waiting for. Great impressions Mike ;)
I own a pro and absolutely love it.
I just got this for Christmas! Pretty good so far!
Very useful and full review, thank you, Mike!
They made a massive leap with Quest 2, and brought VR to the masses, but lost tons of money doing so.
very honest review. big thanks
LOL

I've seen many reviews on this headset but I've not seen one that said it was uncomfortable until this one. Most reviewers are happy with comfort. Weird.
Totally agree
As soon as mike mentioned the problem with comfort it opened the flood gates and many others then started to complain about comfort. But all the early reviews said it was comfortable.
It just goes to show that there are far too many grifters on RUclips who only care about being first rather than being accurate. Mike did a good job showing them up here just by telling the truth.
I watched another review where they said the eye trackers assisted in IPD adjustment. As well as reading on reddit, it does help with the adjustment but not before they have setup eye tracking first.
