    Hi! I am a full time artist, and if you'd like to support my work, please check out www.wornwizard.com. I'm primarily making jewelry now. I get a lot of comments asking me to slow down the video... you're in luck! There is a full build series for these flip flops on my channel. Here's the first video - ruclips.net/video/wlH_W8PdZdI/видео.html

      @@wornwizard nice work.... my only question is what's the reason for using pinesol in your water? After just over 50 years of working leather this is the first I've seen of anyone using pinesol in there water... Again, good job and look forward to hearing from you.

    • @wornwizard
      @wornwizard  6 лет назад +13

      @@jessemarvin3217 You have a lot more experience than I do. A few year back I was having black speckles show up on hides occasionally, I thought maybe it was oxidizing metal dust from the air. I asked about it in a fb group and someone suggested it may be a mold or impurities in my water, and to try adding a bit of pinesol to my water. It worked and I've been using it ever since. Let me know what your thoughts are on this!

    This is an amazing video. I’m new to the craft and mainly lean via lurking on forums and tutorial videos. This is, by far, the best one. I’ve been wanting to make sandals for a while but haven’t found much in tutorials. This feels like the holy grail. Thank you.

    Wow, they turned out so great! I love the burnished edges everywhere - even "good" expensive leather sandals today often are left with rough edges - to me, that just looks cheap and careless and unfinished.

    I gotta ask, how much actual time did you have in these. Truly a thing of beauty and you deserve all of the accolades you receive. Amazing, the quality of craftsmanship unequaled and just mind blowing the time and effort placed in these sandals.
    Thank you so much for the journey, now I know why, hand crafted items are so rare to find, and when you do, it's out of appreciation for that time and effort that we pay the price willingly for them.I will indeed subscribe, because to not to, would be an embarrassment to myself.

      @@Exiide89 How far removed we are from the earth where killing animals for sustenance and survival seems beneath us.
      A leather piece of clothing is made from the waste of butchering of an animal for food. Skin is useless without making it into leather. At the end of the day I'm much more comfortable with a piece of solid leather footwear that will last a decade, than buying a new pair of shoes that will only last a year, crafted by child slaves in some horrible part of the world.
      It's only our misunderstanding and willful blindness of the suffering of other human beings that we could think a natural and extremely durable product such as leather could be offensive.
      Call your local butcher, pick up some deer skin for next to nothing and take that waste and make it into something beautiful and useful.
      Then you will understand my friend.
      Get back in the woods, and back to our shared heritage as curators of the planet.

      you can still get hand made custom fit shoes and boots. you just have to be willing to pay for it. its one of those things where if you have to ask how much it is, you can't afford it. The cheapest bespoke bootmaker i know of starts at around 800 for a relatively no frills boot. crafts never truely die. they just become rare and demand a premium.

    Back in the 90's and 2000's, I had resigned myself that decent leather shoes and purses would be 100 dollars or much more and would save up or find them on sale.. Nowadays, purses and shoes of even that standard can't be found. The average American has been left out of the leather world. I haven't had a decent leather purse or pair of leather shoes since Doc Marten's. Sneakers are disgracefully being made with what looks like bridal veils and pot scrubbers. Good affordable shoes AND flip flops are hard to find. These flip flops are beautiful and high quality. I may have to learn how to make them. I wish he sold them on his website.

      They cost in excess of $500 but there are a number of leather boot companies in the Pacific northwest that make excellent quality handmade boots and shoes for men and women. Check out Whites, nicks and Frank's. There are a number of less prominent shoe makers sprinkled throughout the country. You just have to look. Quality comes at a price but it also lasts longer.

    • @wornwizard

      Thank you! Good question. I use masking tape and leather wraps to protect my fingers on long sewing projects like these. Mostly the thread seems to cut into the bends in the joints of my index finger, but it can cut anywhere. You can definitely feel it start to happen if its from repetitive sewing. Your experience may vary! Check out my faq video and build series for more.

      *JESUS himself Prophesied (PROPHET MOHAMED) in BIBLE with Title of (UPCOMING ANOTHER COMFORTER) & As (PRINCE OF THIS WORLD) --- (Hence Accept ISLAM now) ---*
      *Revelation 22:7* Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book
      *John **14:16* And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you *ANOTHER COMFORTER* that he may abide with you forever
      *John **14:25* These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you
      *John **14:26* But the *COMFORTER* which is the Holy Ghost whom the father will send in my name he shall teach you all the things and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you
      *John **14:30* Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the *PRINCE OF THIS WORLD cometh* and hath nothing in me
      *John **15:26* But when the *COMFORTER* is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me
      *John 16:7* Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away the *COMFORTER* will not come unto you; but if I depart I will send him unto you
      *John 16:8* and when *HE* is come he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment
      *John **16:12**-13* I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when *HE* the spirit of truth, is come, *HE* will guide you into all truth: for *HE* shall not speak of himself but whatsoever *HE* shall hear, that shall *HE* speak and *HE* will show you things to come. He shall glorify me
      Some Christians say that the Comforter mentioned in these prophecies refers to the Holy Spirit. They fail to realize that the prophecy clearly says that only if Jesus (p.b.u.h) departs then the Comforter will come. The Bible states that the Holy Spirit was already present on earth before and during the time of Jesus (p.b.u.h), in the womb of Elizabeth, and again when Jesus (p.b.u.h) was being baptized, etc. Hence this prophecy refers to none other than Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h).The Spirit of Truth, spoken about in this prophecy also refers to none other than Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h)
      *NOTE* the word Jesus Christ and the word Christianity derived from word Christ both are man made words not divine.According to the original manuscript of bible which is in Hebrew or Aramaic jesus real name is MESSIAH or ESAU/ESAW
      Messiah of bible never said that call him by the name of Jesus Christ
      Messiah of bible never claimed any religion by name of Christianity
      Messiah of bible was a jew and he has been sent only for guidance of Jewish tribes only
      JOHN 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
      MATTHEW 15:24 i am not being sent but only unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel
      "Messiah or ESAW brought final part/testament of Jewish law commonly known as new testament
      MATTHEW 5:17 New Living Translation "Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the LAW OF MOSES or the writings of the prophets(of Jews ). No, I came to accomplish their purpose
      Hence proved from all above references that bible is the book of jews only and MESSIAH never claimed any religion by name of christianity rather he was a Prophet for jews guidance only and thats why MESSIAH of bible Prophesied *PROPHET MOHAMED* as upcoming comforter and prince of this world *PROPHET MOHAMED* is the last prophet but for all the nations and tribes of this world
      *Hence Accept ISLAM now*

    Can you make these with "arch support" for people who want to wear flip flops but have heel spurs or plantar fasciitis? I'd love a design for something I can wear all day that won't lead to flat feet.

    • @wornwizard
      @wornwizard  5 лет назад +1

      Hopefully I will do a variation with arch support in the future

    • @JDoe-hb7pc
      @JDoe-hb7pc 5 лет назад

      @@wornwizard That would be amazing and so unique. Thank you! Looking forward to that modification. As people get older the muscle under the feet gets weaker and stops providing arch support. It leads to great pain. I remember taking some flip flops to Disney. What a mistake. I don't remember ever feeling that when I was 16. lol

    I break countless cheap flip flops and was recently given a pile of thin-medium thickness leather. Would it be possible for me to make an inferior recreation of these by adding a layer or two to the bottom?
    If I can solve my flip flop problem with handmade sandals made from my grandmothers old cushion cover that would be awesome. I have very little experience with leather work, but I can do a little bit of everything and have been wanting to improve my skills in that area

      Cushion covers are made of chrome tan leather. This is very soft and not comparable to the veg tanned leather he used. Without veg tan, you would need another type of stiff material for the soles. (Btw. I have the same problem. On youtube you only find people working with veg tan leather. But you rarely see chrome tan projects... )

    Managed to survive thru 2 yrs of College in Santa Barbara (Marine Diving Tech) with GI Bill and leather work --Fall '69 - fall '71.....Mostly self taught, leathercraft was hippy-dippy crude, but sold a lot of belts, handbags, watch bands, etc by word of mouth....
    Partnered up with Alex Nordholm during my last semester--"Norsemen Leather" (Nordholm-Schumacher) Carpinteria, CA...He was the master sandal maker and I did most of the handbags, belts, cases, etc....Learned to make sandals and produced 60 pairs of custom sandals the summer of 1971 before moving to coastal Louisiana to work offshore.....It's much easier if ya have all the shoe making equipment....We made sandals similarly to your way, but no stitching--brass rivets and brass clinch nails for soles, MUCH quicker....Barge cement is what really kept sandals together....Back then, we used mostly latigo for uppers and thick chrome bends for soles.....Really miss that hippy-dippy leather shop smell....LOL

      @@wornwizard ya did nice work on those flip flops.....Much easier with hand crank sole cutter and a row of motorized sanding/polishing drums.... ;o)
      Still have a few small trays of clinch nails and various brass rivets.....Also, funky solid brass belt buckles.....Have debated whether to make up a bunch of long, blank belts with 50 yr old buckles attached for people to finish any way they want....Probably sell on Etsy.....Don't need $$ and haven't been inspired yet.....Have made over 100 leather helmet shields (about 50 with wood, copper, brass plaques) for retired fire family but ran out of steam a few years ago....(was a fireman for 25 yrs, retired 16 yrs ago).....
