Great man. This cover is amazing. And its even more stunning that you figured it all out by ear. You got all the little details, harmonics and fill-ins between the riffs and put in lots of variation. I also like your idea of the "guitar mode" you added. Nothing negative to say about this.

ey men, could you share the patch for the pod hd500 ?
Idk the inner workings of the POD series but here's a general idea of what i hear from his tone and what i think his signal chain consists of
A clean tone of some sort with a tapped 16'th note delay to it
An amp something along the lines of a Peavey 5150, whichever version or some sort of high gain EVH amp with a tube screamer or boost in front of it
And an impulse response / cab simulator that has good presence on high mids
I'm picking that up based on the fact that his distorted / high gain tone has a loose bass, it's mushy, not tight
Don't quote me if i'm wrong, but i hear similar tones from Gojira and they have the same kind of signal chains involved with slight alterations
Try using your ear after that formula, see what you come up with and hope this helped. CHEERS! :D
