I am a Quebecer who participated in the strike of the health network that is withering away, while the government is spending this money. I remember a protester who wore the jersey of the Los Angeles Kings, holding a semblance of a Stanley Cup, instead of a sign.
I know its odd but, can you make a video on Hunter St. Martin. He came out of nowhere and almost made a case for a spot in the NHL this year. If I am correct he was a 6th round pick THIS year.
Quebec spent a bunch, but the only way they show viability is by doing it. It also opens them up for a potential if there is a building damaged out east, they could be a temporary home during repairs. Stuff like that. Really looking forward to regular season games, then my team sucking and waiting for the trade deadline and the draft. :-).
The NHL already knows the market will sell out the building. That's not why they don't have a team. It's the lack of corporate money combined with all of the other factors working against them.
@@TheHockeyGuy Correct its not so much about selling out arenas as it is growing the game of hockey in a non traditional hockey area. The gary bettman way.
I would argue that Seattle is a traditional hockey market. If they expand to Houston, hat city has a hockey history that dates back to the 70s. I am still surprised they didn't join the NHL when the WHA merger took place. Atlanta lost their arena, didn't struggle to draw fans nearly as much as people remember. The Thrashers had poor ownership which can sink a team. Selling out at arena is one thing, but not having the corporate dollars is an issue for Quebec City. That combined with a low Canadian dollar means you're not going to convince the Board of Governors that it makes sense to go back without some serious corporate money backing it up.
Conor Geekie is making a serious case for making the team right now. The uncertainty of the Sheary/Atkinson situation and the potential openings in the bottom six are giving Cooper and Brisebois some tough choices.
The Wings just didn't really have any room for any guy on a PTO. They're at 12 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 3 goalies already, before training camp even started. Yzerman needs to pull off some magic if he wants to free up another forward spot. And if he does, the bitter truth is that it should not go to an older depth player, it should go to a prospect who has already shown he can make an impact, like Marco Kasper.
As a Quebecer, this government is a disgrace. It came out that they spent that money just before they had to negociate new salaries with the eductional and health systems employees... They don't know how to spend public money
Surprised Dalpe is still within the Panthers organization, 2 seasons ago when they made it to the finals (but didn't win), he played most of the season and playoffs then last season it was pretty much AHL the whole time. Wish him GL to make the team now that they've lost depth.
Shannon, im asking this as a latvian hockey fan and fan of your channel- has Vilmanis proved himself to be in the roster this season or will he be a first in the line callup from the AHL?
If the NHL was looking at Quebec (for good reason) for expansion, I imagine a 4 team (2 western, 2 eastern) expansion, like they should, it would be a good idea. But since it's not the case, plus, the Habs offered to pay for it so that it wouldnt have to be taxpayers paying for these 2 games and either the horrible CAQ government said Nope, we will do this or the NHL turned the Habs Organization down, it's not that great an idea. Exhibition games in Europe or Japan, do they have to pay for those? I'm sure they don't. We're already the most taxed province/state in all of North America, so this is most ridiculous because of the no expansion guaranteed thing. The Habs would love to have the Nords back in fact, its been known since a good while, they offered to pay for it instead even but somehow nope, not allowed. If I lived in Quebec City maybe I would be a bit happier about it, so I could see NHL level (almost) hockey north of the northern shore suburbs of Montreal, but I live a couple hours away from Qc City and I won't bother taking a day off to drive there and get tickets in a hurry back when it was time for it.
I was actually surprised that Quebec did not try to get a PWHL franchise. I thought they would give that shiny arena a viable tenant, but I guess they are fixated on the small chance they will get an NHL team back.
The city mayor has already said to the league that city was interested in expansions, but the PWHL said right now it's not interested in expanding, they're more interested in consolidating the current teams on long term, so I guess it's just waiting and praying on both leagues
He looked great in that game tonight. Pre-season or not, he brought energy and focus. And that Lundell was looking great as well. Little Barkov is really coming along.
Everyone I know who lives in Québec also questions why the government would waste this huge amount of money on preseason games (and on the PGA for the presidential cup). Especially when they then turn around and say they don't have enough money to give a better pay to teachers and nurses. Anyway enough politics, you did ask lol.
I want to preface this comment with I love Sergachev, wanted him to retire a bolt and I think he will do well in Utah and be a Number one for years….. But damn Geekie and Moser look so good, could be just what the Bolts need
@@TheHockeyGuy that seems like a good gig . is that the norm for offsite preseason games? does that apply to the European games too? thx so much for taking the time to answer brother

Doubt it. Florida didn't make any fans with their run to the Cup and some incidents along the way. If it were reversed, the comments would be all about what goons the Panthers are and how dirty they play. I read it during the entire playoff run.

Would love seeing Vilmanis make the roster!
Keep the parade planned Celebrini is fine
Jared McCann (lower body) and Tye Kartye (unknown) were both held out last night against the Oilers for injury.
I dunno if Shannon forgot, Jim Montgomery speaks French (he is from Montréal). If RDS forgets that fact, QC might as well kiss that NHL dream goodbye.
Uh?

Can you make a video on what this preseason? Feels like it's way more rough, more injuries, suspensions etc. Seems crazy
I only saw a few clips on IG for this game. Nice to see Knight gets the win. Hope he figures it out because for awhile he was looking better then Bob.
My spider sense says Preds will go on a tear sooner than later.

Dude if Panthers would have a European game in Riga with 2 latvian players. Would be nice. But our rink is 9k capacity, so no.
Is Spencer Knight going to be the backup for the Cats this year?
At his cap hit, that seems likely ans Driedger will end up in the AHL.

who got the revenue for the game in quebec? what was the attendance?
The NHL gets the revenue.
@@TheHockeyGuy so they get 5-7 mil and the revenue? or is that the revenue
That's on top of what the government paid. They covered the NHL's cost, but the league gets all ticket revenues.
