Thanks for showing us how you work this. It's awesome that you're out there showing people how to work think kind of stuff, even in your condition.
    Cheers!

Thank you for sharing your plans and or even just the inspiration. I was already going to build my own so its nice to see yours working. Your design may be my hot tub transport method (darn stairs!) lol hope you are still with us. I was put in hospice the first time 7 years ago and project keep my brain from turning to mush

Love the idea...My son has down syndrome and cannot walk. The medical version track system we looked at, as I'm sure you know, is super expensive about 40K installed. So I've been searching online for DIY ideas and I'm so happy I finally found something very similar to what I had in mind. I'm atleast couple months away from building. Trying to get all the supplies I might need. Great vid!!!

Good idea...in addition you should have your cell phone or a life alert necklace in case of a malfunction that might leave you dangling in mid air.

This is the first lift I have looked at that does not require an aide. I am thinking to adapt your idea to my circumstances.

I laughed with you when you got to the upstairs chair. Great innovation. Looks like it does the job, but it looks like the support cable has, already, worn through the insulation on the wire. Hope you were able to remedy.

Very clever ideas. Where did you purchase the tubular steel stair harness that appears to be good for toileting as well?

Great idea, but it doesn't look like there's anything to stop the trolley lifting up off the rail?

  • @hseochin

Great that it works...but the main concern i'll say is the safety aspect i.e. how sturdy is the hanging mechanism & pulling wire cable ? If something snaps what fail safe mechanism are there ? Have to agree those commercially available systems are ridiculously expensive, it certainly appears those people selling those 'officially endorsed' systems like to make a great killing by asking wildly inflated prices as if to 'not lose out' by capitalising on the mis-fortunes of others who really need such aids ?!

Great job. This is a good idea & generally seems to work well but has a few wobbles that may need to be addressed. As with any new design it may take some tweaking to make it better. Does it have a failsafe mechanism that allows you to lower yourself down in event of a power outage or other breakdown? That lower part that holds & picks you up looks like it came from a Shurhands lift which is a great design that is available commercially. I would like to see more detail on the track & trolley. That is the part that isn't available commercially at least as far as I know. I know someone that might benefit from something like this. I have also seen another DIY lift like this that uses dual tracks which provides more stability.
