  • in this video I change the valve cover and the spark plugs on the Mini Cooper s R53 with the W11 Engine now this job can require a bit of skill as the bolts on the valve cover tend to ruse which is a common problem now if you have purchased a r53 and its never had any maintenance and its approaching 100k my best advise would be to purchase new bolts BEFORE you even start this job incase you break them as most bolts on here have never ever been removed and due to the servicing you will be doing this will need a major overhaul and possibly none of these components have EVER been changed just like is seen on this video
    we also upgrade a few parts READY for the 19% pulley reduction
    stay tuned to find out !!!!!

    Fantastic video - designed to help the unskilled. Maintenance is the key to keep vehicles having longer & healthier life span as the doctor has demonstrated in various of videos and neglect can become catastrophic for any vehicle, A*.

    Awesome videos, and sweet details. I have two issues, no mention of torque specs and no setting of the gap in the spark plugs?

    Just picked up a R50 as a little project with 105k on the clock. I suspect it is in similar shape. I’m no mechanic but would like to change those parts like you have done, Dean. Is there anything that you changed that I wouldn’t on a R50?

    Could you help me get in the right direction to what could be causing my mini to blow white smoke out of it’s exhaust and what causing it to put oil in the exhaust, recently changed coil, ht leads and plugs but having no luck with it running probably since the issue started

    Do you need to drain the oil before you remove the valve cover?

      Yeah read into them tho. There is a few issues with the different generations.
      I have the r53 supercharged myself with 240bhp.
      If you want more you need to get the newer models.
      Under that hp I would pick the r53 because the supercharger is fun. Everybody expects turbos so the whine sounds so cute and different.
      I think they are a future classic.

    • @BMWDoctor
      @BMWDoctor  5 лет назад +2

      because it wasn't sludge on the cover this is how they come from factory
      from what I found out after all the valve covers are like this

    Beemers are shit. I had an M3 a couple of years ago. I kept it for 6 months..over rated shit. The simple things were ridiculously over engineered and the most basic things were over looked.
    The Mini is cheap and cheerful, but mostly cheap. At least its fun to drive. The M3 was just frustrating and dare I say it...boring. Big power, but soulless.
