Man, this is what people mean that CPU bottlenecks the GPU. Look at the GPU utilization on each processor. The 1600x can only utilize around 40-60% of the RTX 3080 while the 5600x hovers around 80-90%. That means you get more of a performance boost on a newer GPU. Overclocking can match these odds but only a little.

That gains are really crazy. From Zen to Zen 3 the gains are at times up to 80%. To get the same kind of gains you would have to go from the Core 2 Quad Q9550 all the way to a 6600K (same core count and memory channel configuration). This took 8 years, 3 different types of RAM and 5 different sockets. AMD did this on the same platform with the same kind of RAM within 3.5 years. You could have even used your X370 or B350 board if AMD haven't become too greedy due to their success. Just is just mindblowing!

Also add in that gains generally become harder to make the more you advance. I would add that I heard that the b350/x370 boards were lacking in some aspects, maybe the bios chips or something? If they invested a little more at first, it probably would've been better. But they were way behind Intel, so profit margins and pricing on products had to be very competitive.

This is awesome but to me the take away is that the entire AM4 platform Ryzen family is excellent for gaming.
    - This is at 1080p. Jumping to 1440p the CPU will be delivering roughly the same frames but you will likely become GPU bound. In other words, if you are just gaming, put your upgrade dollars at GPUs first.
    - The only game where the 1600x and 2600x couldnt get above 60fps was Flight Simulator. Lets be honest, if Flight Simulator is your jam, you know you have to shell out the $$$.
    - The 3600 is going to have a VERY long life as a gaming CPU. I have sad for a while I think it is going to be the new i7 47xx. I predict that people will still be happily gaming with 3600s when 6xxx series Nvidia GPUs are released.
    - A 58003D or 5900 based gaming system will be viable for AAA gaming in 2030. A 5900 can push Horizon Zero Dawn to 165fps at 1080p Ultimate. It will be a long time before all but the highest end GPUs can handle the frames it can push at 1440p or 4K.
Bottom line - you can build an AM4 based computer now and be very happy with your gaming for a long time. Great job AMD!

    Sooo...
The takeaway here is that performance scales realy well when you increase clock speeds.
The differences from 1600X to 3600X are almost entirely in line just with the clock differences. The tiny bit extra above that that the 3600 demonstrates is the IPC increase from Zen 1 to 2. Same with the jump from 3600X to 5600X - 65% clock speed increase, 35% IPC increase/die shrink. But notice that the actual CPU usage doesn't increase (between generations), showing that most games are still limited to only using 4-ish cores.
Thats not to bag on AMD here. Being able to GET those clock speed increases is great. A refinement in Zen 3 that lets them reliably hit 5ghz would be the bees knees.
Another big takeaway is that a 1600X is still a good CPU. At no point, even in Cyberpunk, does it hit "bad" performance. So i think its a serious win that an almost 4 year old, decidedly mid-range part has held up so well.

actually I would say both the cpus are gr8 , but the fanboyism is the one thing that destroys them
Intel 10th gen though is more worth and more performance oriented than amd’s 3rd gen cpus , and amd 5th gen cpus are so overpriced
      (at least in my area)
it depends from region to region where you live , if u get intel in a range of 30-40$ corresponding to same ryzens’s cpus , you should go for intel for long run , as intel is far more reliable than amd in long run , then buy a + 70$ cooler , and here you are , with spending around 100$ more , but you get 1 more year of its use , and more performance throughout the period
I am saying with experience , i use i7 7700x and I am using it for 6 more months , as my number in queue for rtx 3070 is 6 months from now, It does not lag behind in any games at ultra setting even now , but it is just that I want to refresh my hardware , so I am upgrading.
and it still competes gr8 with amd’s so called innvative cpus like r3 3600 .
so if you get an intel + cooler in around 100$ more from ryzen cpu , I suggest you go for it

there is something wrong with the ryzen 3600x, it is low in frequency.
I have this cpu and in boost the frequency is very close to 4400 mhz, why doesn't it go beyond 4250 mhz here?

Should do one with them all clocked the same to show the IPC gain.

The generational leap with Ryzen cpus is massive, AMD had fallen far behind. The competition AMD brought to the table forced Intel to innovate again and we see this now with the 13th gen Intel cpus. Intel was resting on its laurels for years, rightfully so, they had the better option but as soon as the 1st gen Ryzen hit the market, it was a wake up call. Its actually insane how far Intel has come from the quad core i7s that were priced at $349. This is why fanboying is dumb, instead of rooting for a team, root for innovation.

Month before Ryzen 3600 was released i was about to buy 9400f that had only 6 threads, even 9600k was not a great deal since it was expensive in my country and also had 6 threads. There was no reason to buy midrange Intel CPU at the time compared to 3600
