Or locking canteen buffs to remove needless RNG and wasted time. In my eyes none of it makes your hunts and less valid than that of a person who doesn't do it. With this logic you could easily argue fixing smallest possible monster sizes is the same thing... but I think most of us here would agree that is a step too far. What would solve this whole issue is if everybody could just collectively decide on what they want to be acceptable and what they don't want to be. For example: agree that using mods to eliminate the grind involved in making armor sets for the runs is perfectly fine, so all the speedrunners can stop pretending they aren't doing it :P

@@imp_raziel Hunter Pie's player ui is nice, but man does the monster ui make hunts boring. Knowing exactly when monsters are going to topple or get out of rage and the like just takes so much out of the hunt. I'm very grateful that its customisable and that I can use just the parts of it I like.

Well technically gooner mods are no cheatings, since it's just a skin change. So no more information to the player, no change of ai, hitbox or damage value (one could even argue that, by virtue of being sexualised mod, it distract your attention from the action making you worst at the game)
The fact that you did this in the style of all those "10 Levels of X Weapon"-Videos was lovely. Being a console player, i still know about all of these "tools", but its the first time i'm seeing how such an overlay actually looks like - and having all of this information available throughout the whole hunt (and not having to keep track of it yourself in your head) is wild to me. And the "arguments" presented in those screenshots on how it wouldnt affect any hunt/speedrun are hilarious, of course.
it’s very clear it affects your decision making, as you don’t have to do any of it yourself since the program gives you that information. it’s basically training wheels for learning the values and certain patterns a monster does. it’s akin to bringing your notes to an exam and just copying them. it removes the decision making process by giving you the information on how you should react and what you should be doing rather than you actually learning that information yourself and making your own decisions based on observation

Honesty is a quality that I really respect, so props to calling yourself a cheater. Admittedly, I don't interact much with the runners but you're the only one I've seen who's honest about it. Sure, they may mention which mods they use, but will stubbornly refuse to call it cheating. I also find it really refreshing that you draw the line at Lvl 0 to not be considered one. if you equip safi aquashot + safi armor then farm Day of Ruin (mr100 teostra event quest) it shouldn't take too long. I have gotten multiple of the best decos this way. hunts are quick too cuz aquashot is op.
i know i cheat by spawning a rainbow spiribird at the start of a hunt as well as fixing RNG as well as monster drop amounts in both rise and world, but i don't speedrun and i cheat so i can just casually play the game faster and make it more enjoyable for me so i don't have to farm the same monster 15 times in a row for a single drop lol, i rather be hunting for the fun of it rather then turning it into a mindless chore (especially once you hit over 2k hours of playtime)
Man. As much as it's a good thing that MH finally came to PC. It sure did ruin the competitive integrity of speedrunning. Sure cheating has always existed. But now because it's on PC it's so much easier to do, and widespread. If you give people the option of easily being able to cheat, they will. Some of it is because of ego. They see themselves as the best of the best and believe that because they are top level runners, they deserve to get world records. Well news flash, you don't deserve anything. You have to earn it. And if you had to cheat to accomplish it, then you really didn't accomplish it. Personally if I had cheated to attain a really good run, or a world record. It would honestly leave a bad taste in my mouth and completely ruin it for me. It's just not worth it. Once a cheater always a cheater, it's a hard habit to break. And they can no longer be trusted.
If you give context for example "TAS speedrun" I think its totally fine. Because then everyone knows the fight is probably not humanly possible without mods

honestly, i just use overlays since when im replaying the game i love being enraged seeing the monster low. My overlay doesnt show the parts of the monster HP, just the actual monster HP

nothing really if its the same as World. I have 1.8k hours in PC world and Ive come across actual cheaters like 3 times. I'm not counting overlays, bc there's legit no way to know someone is using it without footage.
I'm a lv.2 cheater as well, just editing charms obtainable legally ( none of those lv. 7 AB or CE, that's just...too much ). 700 hours into MHR: Sunbreak, I've come to realization that the charm I wanted for my SAED Spamming CB build, lv.3 Furious, lv.2 Embolden and slots enough for 3 lv.1 skills, requires an ungodly amount of luck to roll for and the time spent farming for MP Accelerants, Kamura Points AND Gold? Turned the game into something opposite of fun for me. I do not condone cheating but if you have invested a considerable amount of time into a game you love and you just need to min max a certain build but it's based on luck? Go for it. Screw RNG.

I love comfort skills and apparently in MHR Sunbreak, I love weapons with shields. So I tend to add skills like Guard, Guard Up and Embolden. I'm no pro player or whatnot even with 700 hours under my belt. I have a very, very reckless play style ^.^
honestly just do whatever u want brother, as long as you're not hurting anybody and taking away one's enjoyment. some people dont have the time to grind out 1% more damage for a game and if that damage increase is important to you then go ahead
So I’ve always wondered, why doesn’t the monster hunter speedrunning community have more categories beyond TA and non-TA to account for people who cheat certain aspects of a hunt like guaranteed cat buffs or overlays or skill adjusting cheats… etc? (not counting AI cheats or no hitlag cheats cuz those are lame) You see this for every other game ever where there are categories for runs that utilize bugs or categories that run on a specific build of the game… etc I feel like this would be the best case scenario for the current state of MH speedrunning no? P.S. people who cheat at level 10 are built different…
because, speedrunning is a community effort where the rules are somewhat agreed on amongst the runners, so its easier to have just freestyle + TA wiki category in mh, than to have multiple categories should there be a large disagreement between runners (the number of runners determine if the category is successful, and one of the reasons speedrunning in rise didnt take off as much as in world). mh is also slightly different from other games in that the speedrunning is related to clear times of specific quests rather than game completion.

It's really sad how far it has gotten 😢 I'm a small Speedrunner myself for my personal enjoyement playing on 3DS/Switch and PlayStation and seeing this, lost all the glorious satisfaction of achieving your goal (sub 4 a monster for exemple) It should be gratifying to succeed on a run you've been practicing for... But no Seeing all of these people unable to play a game normaly just to satify their ego is completly pathetic
what lvl my friend mod used? he use mod inventory from what max potion allow is 2, he modded it to 10-20. even mega bomb also. and its not limited to just that, even ancient potion, mega potion etc

Console players are really digging deep & fighting through all this. I've said it for years & I'll continue. This type of stuff needs to be talked about more often & I really appreciate/respect you & this video. The rules need a bit of changing, or there needs to be a whole new category for modded runs. It's as simple as calling them tool assisted speedruns (TAS) like many other games/communities do. So freestyle TAS TAwiki TAS It's one of the bigger reasons why I quit trying, & when they're mentioned you best be ready for the "it's only this & this - they're very small things that don't do much" Really does some dmg to the mental. I could even go on to give some very good examples but calling people out on it is ehhh.

As long as watching a run is educational to me, I can accept anything at Level 4 and below. If I fail to identify AI tampering from a run, then I needed to learn more of that encounter on my own anyways.

Putting cheated fotage together is kinda easy. the size comparison vid by TDS is probably one of the highest effort yt vids on monster hunter TDS also announced a speed comparison that involves more effort.
I think I am fine with anything as long as the runner is open about it : I can get someone saying "I fixed this and that because reseting is stupid" but it's not okay when yoj try to hide it or compete against people that don't use it
Guilty on lvl 2 and 4. Put about a casual 800 hours in MHW on the PS4, when playing on the PC I used lvl 2 to get the Items and gear I had on the PS4. Level 4 was neat when tracking progress on damage output when testing builds solo, all the other overlays like health bars for limbs and stuff is just too much clutter.
I play solo and I play to just enjoy my hunting. So for me, the overlay is an awesome quality of life for me so I can test my dps with new builds to see how viable they are. All it is is information. Knowledge is half the battle.

I don’t play for speedruns so idk if it actually matters, but isn’t it okay to mod in certain conditions like drunk bird / lowest possible hp - small crown / thunder beetles / etc? I feel like anything that’s going to make you reset the run immediately is fine to set up for yourself
monster hunter speedrunning is a complete joke. i hope that wilds does some stuff better to prevent this. for example store savegames server sided that players can no longer edit those to add gems and items/materials that are not obtained legitimately and have a basic anti cheat that redflags when someone changes values inside the games memory, like unlimited health, 100% crit, free augments, damage multipliers and what not. basically any cheat that is out there will not work anymore. this game needs it really bad.
If someone cares enough they can make a mod for it, and said mod could be required to post a speedrun to the leaderboards. I haven't modded for MH specifically, only other games, but I''d wager a mod like this should be possible

I think I’d swap 3 and 4. Knowing how close the monster is to being poisoned via overlays seems like less cheating than tweaking your cat’s AI to only play damage up. I don’t think overlays would be terribly harmful if I were to use them, “oh the monster is close to being staggered on its next hit. I can totally land this charged slash and stagger it mid-attack and it’ll look really cool.” seems like it wouldn’t hurt anyone’s fun. But still cheating. Those guys saying it’s not are reprobates.

But now because it's on PC it's so much easier to do, and widespread. If you give people the option of easily being able to cheat, they will. Some of it is because of ego. They see themselves as the best of the best and believe that because they are top level runners, they deserve to get world records. Well news flash, you don't deserve anything. You have to earn it. And if you had to cheat to accomplish it, then you really didn't accomplish it. Personally if I had cheated to attain a really good run, or a world record. It would honestly leave a bad taste in my mouth and completely ruin it for me. It's just not worth it. Once a cheater always a cheater, it's a hard habit to break. And they can no longer be trusted.

honestly, i just use overlays since when im replaying the game i love being enraged seeing the monster low. My overlay doesnt show the parts of the monster HP, just the actual monster HP

I'm a lv.2 cheater as well, just editing charms obtainable legally ( none of those lv. 7 AB or CE, that's just...too much ). 700 hours into MHR: Sunbreak, I've come to realization that the charm I wanted for my SAED Spamming CB build, lv.3 Furious, lv.2 Embolden and slots enough for 3 lv.1 skills, requires an ungodly amount of luck to roll for and the time spent farming for MP Accelerants, Kamura Points AND Gold? Turned the game into something opposite of fun for me. I do not condone cheating but if you have invested a considerable amount of time into a game you love and you just need to min max a certain build but it's based on luck? Go for it. Screw RNG.

@@ShupperDupper Hehehe I wish my build gained an extra 1% dmg but the charms I edit honestly don't give me that benefit. I love comfort skills and apparently in MHR Sunbreak, I love weapons with shields. So I tend to add skills like Guard, Guard Up and Embolden. I'm no pro player or whatnot even with 700 hours under my belt. I have a very, very reckless play style ^.^
honestly just do whatever u want brother, as long as you're not hurting anybody and taking away one's enjoyment. some people dont have the time to grind out 1% more damage for a game and if that damage increase is important to you then go ahead

So I’ve always wondered, why doesn’t the monster hunter speedrunning community have more categories beyond TA and non-TA to account for people who cheat certain aspects of a hunt like guaranteed cat buffs or overlays or skill adjusting cheats… etc? (not counting AI cheats or no hitlag cheats cuz those are lame)
You see this for every other game ever where there are categories for runs that utilize bugs or categories that run on a specific build of the game… etc
I feel like this would be the best case scenario for the current state of MH speedrunning no?
P.S. people who cheat at level 10 are built different…

also nothing stops people from cheating and entering a "no cheating" category anyway
because, speedrunning is a community effort where the rules are somewhat agreed on amongst the runners, so its easier to have just freestyle + TA wiki category in mh, than to have multiple categories should there be a large disagreement between runners (the number of runners determine if the category is successful, and one of the reasons speedrunning in rise didnt take off as much as in world). mh is also slightly different from other games in that the speedrunning is related to clear times of specific quests rather than game completion.

what lvl my friend mod used? he use mod inventory from what max potion allow is 2, he modded it to 10-20. even mega bomb also. and its not limited to just that, even ancient potion, mega potion etc

Turns out my cheating streak is still pretty much on the casual side since I stop at making perfectly augmented weapons. Lobotomising the monsters' AI is bleh.

As long as watching a run is educational to me, I can accept anything at Level 4 and below. If I fail to identify AI tampering from a run, then I needed to learn more of that encounter on my own anyways.

Compare speedrunner to the Olympic games, people want to see what peak gameplay is, not peak cheating, i wouldn't mind watching doped athletes play some alternate Olympics where the going is to decide who got the best pills etc, but keep it separate from the official, now back to MH, keep your modified AI runs out of the usual speedruns. Unfortunately, most players wouldn't be able to tell when someone is cheating & would end up glazing cheaters

Guilty on lvl 2 and 4. Put about a casual 800 hours in MHW on the PS4, when playing on the PC I used lvl 2 to get the Items and gear I had on the PS4. Level 4 was neat when tracking progress on damage output when testing builds solo, all the other overlays like health bars for limbs and stuff is just too much clutter.
I play solo and I play to just enjoy my hunting. So for me, the overlay is an awesome quality of life for me so I can test my dps with new builds to see how viable they are. All it is is information. Knowledge is half the battle.
What about cheating in a big spiribird at the start of each hunt? Because thats what I do (not that I speedrun or anything)

Holy based. Honestly MH speedrunning has gotten to a point that if a run is done on PC then I'm automatically skeptical, even though I play exclusively on PC. We really need some type of mod or program that can verify the game and what other mods/overlays are being used. Cheating is more rampant in this community than any other game I've ever even heard about
I could be entirely wrong about this but I remember seeing somewhere that even console players can do some shenanigans with save editors to get illegal damage numbers or something--at least in world. Basically Switch on top.
PS5 could save edit, xbox couldnt but it was nowhere near as easy as PC afaik.

monster hunter speedrunning is a complete joke. i hope that wilds does some stuff better to prevent this. for example store savegames server sided that players can no longer edit those to add gems and items/materials that are not obtained legitimately and have a basic anti cheat that redflags when someone changes values inside the games memory, like unlimited health, 100% crit, free augments, damage multipliers and what not. basically any cheat that is out there will not work anymore. this game needs it really bad.
If someone cares enough they can make a mod for it, and said mod could be required to post a speedrun to the leaderboards. I haven't modded for MH specifically, only other games, but I''d wager a mod like this should be possible

Honestly, I can understand up to like level 2, and sometimes overlays. Not being able to compete as well in a speedrun because you got bad luck with charms/augments is just dumb. As long as it’s all still something that would be possible for the game to produce, then I don’t think it’s a big deal.

I think I’d swap 3 and 4. Knowing how close the monster is to being poisoned via overlays seems like less cheating than tweaking your cat’s AI to only play damage up.
I don’t think overlays would be terribly harmful if I were to use them, “oh the monster is close to being staggered on its next hit. I can totally land this charged slash and stagger it mid-attack and it’ll look really cool.” seems like it wouldn’t hurt anyone’s fun.
