The most bizzare thing about the Borderlands movie to me is the PG-13 rating. They really looked at Borderlands and thought "yeah, we could make that into a kids movie." First, what kids are playing Borderlands? They're all playing Fortnite and watching Skibidi Toilet, Borderlands is a series that would resonate more with people in their late 20s and 30s, so why bother making it safe for kids. The target audience here is completely wrong. One of several hundred problems this movie has.
That was my exact thought as well. How do you take something that relies on excessive gore, foul language, and generally over-the-top everything and package it into a PG-13 movie?
@@LimitedLemons24 It's insane to me that they got Eli Roth, most well known for excessively violent and gory torture porn movies like Hostel, to direct Borderlands and still managed to make it a PG-13 movie. The movie was never gonna win any awards but it could have at least been a fun watch if they leaned into the 2010s era over the top violence and innuendo, even just for nostalgia's sake. Instead we end up with flavourless gruel, written by executives in a board room, with a questionably popular IP attachment. I'm glad people lost money making this.
I do not understand why they did not just adapt the first season of Tales From The Borderlands. It has the best writing in the series (already is default the best because Clapttrap is hardly in it), and it being a Telltale game is basically an interactive movie.
Anything with Handsome Jack in it would have made a way better movie than whatever this was. But I agree, Tales is by far the best Borderlands story and probably the best Telltale game. Come at me Wolf Among Us fans.
@@catgirl_warcrimes You just don't know yet that you really want a second mini claptrap to talk back to the main claptrap each time it opens its Sweeney trap
When Godzilla minus 1 had a 12 million dollar budget and won an award for vfx that's a telling sign American cinema has some stuff to work out when borderlands sucked and was like 105 million to make.
Godzilla minus 1 was a movie about military meeting. They spend most of their time filming scene inside of a single room. Of course it's gonna be cheap. But Borderlands budget is way too big.
I Neva rlly felt too much when a studio shut down besides sorry for anyone losing a job but tango hit me out of nowhere. Hifi rush came out of the blue. I fell in love with it and it became the game to show friends. Then it got shut down and it hit different. I’m so happy their back
I will be watching borderlands cause I have no expectations either on first dates or new cinematic releases. The only way never to be disappointed and keep everything pleasant. 😊 2:55
I had half an edible and found it enjoyable... Not great, but it looked great, and fairly true to the feel of the game. I don't think they should have bothered making the characters straight out of the game or even mirrored the game's plot that could just have said it in that universe and it would have been fined
I love it! I mean I loveD* it. When Borderlands 1 & 2 were popping. Y'know 15 years ago. When I was 13 and had just discovered masturbation. Why anyone over the age of 18 would be interested at all in this - I don't know lol
Borderlands is a game I played for the gameplay. Almost every other game I play I play for the story. I love when games get turned into TV shows or movies. This was one of the few I never needed lol I still enjoy Borderlands 3, and 2. I just mute all the dialogue and usually listening to a podcast or music while playing
Boy, a LOT of people are finding out Uwe Bol trash, if i go by the comments alone. I hope to god, this doesn't spike his crap on the internet for some reason, that makes him think he needs to start producing again..
I saw the movie with my friend. We thought it would be funny because of how bad it was, it wasn’t it was just boring. It is not the worst video game movie by far, but it was just boring. The casting was just a mistake.
Borderlands 3, Randy Pitchford, and Tell Tales have done irreparable damage to the franchise. I grew up on 1 and 2, now seeing how just greedy and a joke its all become
Tango was like my favorite dev. Glad theyre half saved but why is only the Hifi Rush IP that got bought? Evil Within & Ghostwire still owned by Bethesda or Microsoft?
Regarding Tango Gameworks is it possible Microsoft just didn't want a Japanese studio? Seems they let them finish the product they were working on and as soon as it was done let them go. Even Sony has moved on from most of their Japan studios except like 2 at the moment. Not that it makes them look any better but is it just big corporation doesn't want to work with Japan and their worker rights and the game quality/success had very little to do with it?
I love how people thought Borderlands would make a good movie and game fans are whining about them not being "faithful to the source material." Not everything needs to be adapted and the Borderlands games are a prime example of writing that does not age at all. I had to quit playing Borderlands 2, which I purchased a few years after release, because the entire game felt like "How do you do, fellow kids?" You can't turn shit into gold.
I mean basically sounds like it was opportunity cost, Microsoft only cares about ip and studios giving them 100s of millions in earning, all small wins don't move the overall profit line enough to bother. It's stupid and annoying but it had to be that.
Tango was shutdown by Microsoft because 1) their games haven't really made money. I like their games but none of them have had enormous financial success. 2) studio founder Shinji Mikami left, and took a lot of people with him. I don't think many Japanese developers want to work for Microsoft. Xbox doesn't have much reach in Asia and that's a sel perpetuating problem.
What sucks about Borderlands not making money is Eli Roth will be blamed for it. The studio stepped-in and dismantled his original R-rated movie. It could've been so good.
The fact that some people actually got paid a lot of money to produce and film this disaster of a movie is the reason why no one takes Hollywood seriously anymore.
You all keep lamenting how Microsoft could let go Tango. It feels like you just don't want to see. Since you are so quick to point out how cold corporations are, here is the cold fact. As beloved as Tango's games are, they never did numbers. "line must go up". Simple as that. You still have the right to be angry about it, but you can't honestly sit there and say you don't know why they did it.
Why even try to turn the first game into a movie? There is no story to work with there. They should've just gone straight to the second game because it actually has a plot and an antagonist (half the main cast is from that game already). They still probably would've found a way to completely botch the production, but there was a chance we could've had Nicolas Cage play Handsome Jack. THAT would've been worth seeing.
The Borderlands movie is the worst kind of bad. It's one thing when a film is so bad you laugh at it and then forget about it, it's another thing when a film has a huge budget and competent people behind it. It's the promise of potential that makes it even more disappointing.
Not excited to play Dragon Age. They'll pepper enough fan service and hints at old features and design that everyone missed from previous Dragon Ages, and totally botch everything else in peak cash-grab style with tons of 1984 level double speak and brain rotting marketing sophistry. F every studio that does this, doesn't matter if it's Larian or Relic/Blackbird (viz Homeworld 3). Even without any of that, they took away tactical choices. Every DA game seemed to reduce this further and now it's completely gone. No interest.
OK, here's the thing. I played the crap out of Borderlands 2 and 3, but absolutely not because of the story. I hated the story. It was all about the guns and the cars and the boom boom pow that I got to do with my hands. Why the hell would you attempt a movie, where I don't get to do anything but watch a bad story.
I've never played a Borderlands game, so I have no reason to see this movie. I don't care about what people think of this movie, other than those who may have liked it feeling bullied for everyone else saying everyone should hate it. It sucks not feeling any support from others for liking something. I'd hate to be a 12 year old kid who liked it and reading headlines constantly saying it's a movie that should be hated. I don't understand the point of making them feel bad. Everything is liked by someone.
