Probably exceeds rangers at all stages except the start of the playthrough, which even that is mitigated once you get your hands on the blade of grass, evil biome sword, or starfury.
As a suggestion, I’ve always found that the Boomstick works just as well as the minishark for pre phoenix blaster, so if you don’t want to spend all the money on a minishark, you could go to the underground jungle to get a boomstick instead
I've been using the boomstick and musket while I save money too. Works pretty good even in expert mode plus its really fun to shoot flying targets with it
Just a tip for minishark fans. If you farm during the blood moon you might get a shark tooth medalion, which will massively help the minishark's main issue regarding defence penetration.

I remember when I first fought off the pirate invasion as a ranger I wasn't prepared, so when I began fighting it terrible to the point I had to resort to escaping the enemies with a minecart whilst shooting them with a flintlock loaded with cursed bullets
Insted of mining u can go to desert and get a extractinator and get lots of sturdy fossil they buff range soo much that minishark shoots with 20+ damage
@@connelevish3797 k listen PPL so if ur playing ranger then go in any desert biome and start digging down till u find a cave in cave look for a orangish sandstone like looking block use bombs to break it (it's easier with bombs) then ull get sand fossils with em and then look for extractanator in chests (gold) right click the sand fossils in extractanator u will start getting gems coins from em but we want sturdy fossil from em u can then use the sturdy fossil to make fossil armour it massively boosts ranger stats for early game
Basically Clicking an extractinator with desert fossils has a chance to give u sturdy fossils. U can use these sturdy fossils for ranger armor, though i would reccomend using necro armor instead
pro tip: bring some food and mining potions when mining ores (and spelunker potions), it will increase your mining speed and give you a slight defense boost which is good in early hardmode
and also if you got the party girl to move in and if its the first party talk to her it will give you a cake which is a station and if you right click is gives you faster mining speed

You never talked about accessories or pre hard mode armor. I personally found foissil armor mini shark with crit focused forges on accessories to be the strongest way through. Shark tooth necklace is a very big damage boost coupled with crit increases on accessories.
I was stuck and keep dying to mech bosses until i saw Your arena design. It is soo good and i made one and it made the mech bosses so easy and Im a summoner and i play on mobile
The paintball gun is suuuper overlooked and is really easy to get I’d recommend it if you are going ranger only it can be viable till after your first mech so give it a try.
If you dont want potions some helpful tip here Im a ranger/gunner. When hardmode, defeat the first mech boss(destroyer). go up the sky(must be level with cloud) and make a layout that you cannot hit by the lasers. use onyx blaster with meteor bullets since meteor can pen the destroyer. it does more damage. hope it helps. I will upload my layout on how did I kill the first HM destroyer boss. Potions? no need :) For skeletron and twins. You must need wings in order to dodge their attacks. I recommend basic wings like 'angel wings'. Make a long asphalt runway and put the nurse (must include a npc house with bed, table and chair) in the center. be sure you have any recall potion or lucky if you have mirror. You must need a boots and cuthulu shield since asphalt can make you run faster. cuthulu shield is also a big help for dashing. for twins, weapons I use to kill is megashark with ichor/cursed flame for skeletron is still onyx blaster with ichor/cursed flame. Why there is a bed? yes click the end portion of the bed to set your spawn so you can recall to the nurse and heal. Be sure you have enough money to make nurse heal you. also put light, wall, chair, and a crafting table on the house so the nurse will move in. asphalts make you move faster and dodge their attacks. If you didn't get my tips. I upload video on it to see the what I did.

A few recommendations of my own: The boomstick is what I consider to be one of, if not, the single greatest weapon in the pre-boss stage. It's always worth going for as soon as you first get a musket/boomstick. Orichalcum armor is really, REALLY good. It's objectively the best offensive set bonus of any armor in the pre-mech stage. Sniper scope is a pretty damn solid accessory. A free boost to both damage and crit rate is nothing to scoff at. Red riding armor is better than shroomite in the majority of situations. Xeno popper is kind of nutty. It's a little awkward, but there's a reason it's considered the best shotgun in the game.
zuzu also forgot about uzi. I know its hard to obtain but its very decent gun for start of the hardmode. imo it's even better gun than megashark and onix blaster.
Hot take, but I think onyx blaster is better than the megashark, I use it usually all the way up to pillars when it becomes outclassed by vortex beater etc, i do use other weapons for support but the onyx blaster is great
if you have patience, I recommend the Star Cannon for skeletron and wof. Since you'd need it mainly for wof, I only shot the Star Cannon when I removed both hands from skeletron and he started spinning. When he's not spinning, I didn't want to miss shots since it's hard enough to get a lot of ammo. update: I tried the star gun against the wof, and it SHREDDED. I did not need to use the phoenix blaster once even with only 200 stars. I only used 170. Would recommend this gun, no reason to not, u can just collect stars over time while playing up until wof. Almost forgot to mention, this was while I was in master mode.
Tip for getting money: stained glass can be crafted with glass walls and gems and greatly increases the value of them (Not amber or diamond though, they are good enough as it is). I used this for my first minishark as gems are easy to find and gemtrees then allow you practically infinite of them
You can also fish in the Corrupted biome (If your world is corrupted) to get the Toxikarp gun which doesn't need ammo since it shoots out toxic bubbles if you are in hardmode.
For gunslingers, I also recommend to use Red Riding Armour if you're bad at dodging since it offers more defense, but generalized damage, so you'll have low DPS.
I disobey the guide by building my own little monster using melee armor with weak range weapons and a whole lot of beenades. Worked well against WOF and eye of cthulu, chucking nades on a long flat walkway
Here's a tip if you get the worng emblem then go tk the beach (jungle side) dig down from there then you'll find the shimmer throw your emblem into the shimmer and it will change keep throwing the emblem into the shimmer till you get the right one
I’m assuming this is satire but if it isn’t it’s because he’s in journey mode but he gets rid of all the starting gear (wings, grapple hook, etc.) and the reason he’s in journey mode is for building purposes (I think since it’s what he said in the regular ranger guide)

If your wanting to go melee before trying to defeat the WoF (Wall Of Flesh) I reccomend getting the nights edge and get some pair of hermes boots or terraspark boots and some ironskin and regeneration potion then summon the WoF (Wall Of Flesh) Go close but not that close then swing your night's edge The hp of WoF (Wall Of Flesh) will get drained fast because of the night's edge (I also don't know why zuzucorn said mage and ranger will probably have the easiest time in WoF But eh i guess its kind of true)
Also once you're into pre plantera and has access to chlorophyte bars and have an gatligator use the chlorphyte bars or ore (I don't know how chlorophyte ammo is made because im still stuck in mech bosses) to create chlorophyte ammo/bullets these ammo are homing or autotracking bullets and use it against the might salad boss plantera sure it isn't best but its atleast at close to the uzi with chlorophyte bullets/ammo
Also i reccomend getting ichor bullets (For crimson) Or Cursed bullets (For Corruption) Ichor bullets or Cursed bullets is easy to get Ichor drops from ichor stickers For cursed bullets it can drop from clingers and world feeders if you love bows there's also ichor arrows Same to corruption Cursed arrows

I feel certain situations require certain weapons so i bring a bit of everything at all times. I been using the uzi lately, not so effective on expert hardmode but it tore regular enemies and bosses up.

i once had a world where i was locked out of the main golem arena (i could summon him, just did not have access to the big arena) the entrance to the arena was blocked by lizhard bricks
So I’m doing a terraria gunner playthrough after not playing terraria for quite a few years, I am in hard mode and completely forgot about hellstone and potions in general
If you get lucky anklets help with the eye for the most part and I also go ahead and grab fossil armour for range but that's not meant specifically for guns so do what you like

As a melee main, I still personally think that the ranger is the best class in the game, I always have a way easier time playing as the ranger.

The minishark is statistically a downgrade from both the undertaker and the musket if enemies have more than like 10 defense.
The uzi is probably one of the best guns in Terraria and it can be found easily
If you combine it with clorophyte bullets it'll become the best weapon
In a way, yes. Just keep in mind that it has no inherent chance at all to save the fired bullet, so you NEED conservation buffs.

Silt, Fossils, and Slush have them with an Extractinator, not to mention Gem Trees make it easy to farm them now.

In my opinion, I usually travel to the jungle to find the boom stick or in the corruption to get the musket
If you get lucky anklets help with the eye for the most part and I also go ahead and grab fossil armour for range but that's not meant specifically for guns so do what you like

Btw i recommend taking corruption over crimson if your going ranger, the musket is considered early meta
U can also get putrid scent and dart rifle from the mimic, which are pretty great (also you can make recon scope with the scent)
