There is nothing better than homegrown vegetables. They are so much better than what you buy in the stores. I love to go to the farmer's market and get tomatoes. There is nothing better than a good tomato sandwich in the summer, good bread, mayo, salt and pepper. Thank you for sharing.

Last year I bought some seed potatoes and tucked the paper bag under my camper to keep them out of the sun and rain. Would you believe those things sensed the dampness of the earth under the bag and sent down roots?! I tried to pick the bag up and the bottom tore out! They will seriously grow almost anywhere.

You can kill the bermuda grass by covering with cardboard and a thick layer of straw or wood chips on top. If any grass pops up pull back the straw add more cardboard and re-cover. One season, Summer, will normally kill it out.

I can tell you how to kill that grass -- black plastic ground cover. I used it a couple o years ago and had the best garden in my 50+ years of gardening. You just use a little butane torch to cut holes in it and plant through the hole. It is kind of spendy the first year, but I'm to the point that I can't run a tiller or a hoe anymore. I've had it down now for about 3 years and can still use it at least one more year. Try it -- you'll like it! (Watch a video about it o the Living Traditions You Tube channel.)

Great video! I want to caution you on straw now days. There's been several homesteads that I follow that bought straw that had been tainted with some strong pesticides that killed their crops and poisoned their land in the last 2 years in a row so its important to know where the straw came from.

It’s going to be 80 today and 80 on Saturday. my grass is starting to turn green.

What planting zone are you in? I was surprised to see your soil was not frozen still. We are in 6 B. Daffodils are coming through but our soil still seems frozen past an inch or so. Of course we have clay soil which we have tried to amend for over thirty years. Our builder stripped all the top soil off and sold it, so it has been a struggle.

You are absolutely right no potatoes compares to homegrown, same with tomatoes. Once I was I guess 8 or 9 I help my Dad and Mom we'd go to Mamaw's and help her plant,we spent most of a day, they did long rows and used a plow horse or mule. We cut seed while Daddy plowed ,we could see him from the porch. As well as I can remember we planted Irish or white cobblers, they made a almost round potatoes but they had lumps, really good mashed potatoes. I'd love to grow some. Ahh, the memories God Bless your potato patch,Mr. Brown.🧑‍🌾😊💗

What's more feasable financially...planting whole potatoes or buying seed? 2:44 I'm a 'Little House on the Prairie' fan...remember when Carolyn tilled the land by hand (with oxen) when Charles got hurt? Yes sir, you are correct...support local. I knock big box stores and I rarely shop in them to tell the truth. You wont see me in a Walmart, not a Sam's Club and that's a promise. The reason being is the sons had the father committed because they wanted the store. Can you IMAGINE??? I grew up without a daddy and I'd do ANYTHING to get him back. I still remember him fondly to this day and I'm 63 and he passed when I was 8 1/2...yet some treat their parents horribly. Sorry, I digressed there. Anyway, is this the best time of year to plant?

My granny planted potatoes every year in her "victory" garden in her backyard. The victory was already won, but she kept the garden up until she grew too old to keep it up. Her garden was always weed free and tilled often. Y'all's neat and clean garden reminds me of hers. She was a farmers' daughter from Texas, and although she migrated to California in the 1930s she remained a farmer's daughter until her death.

Oh I wish it was warm enough where I am to start my potatoes. The nights are still about 20 degrees here. The gardening bug has bit me and I am itching to get out in my garden and start planting! I did see a Robin in my trees this morning, so maybe that is a good sign.

Yes thank you for sharing your tater planting skills. Had some luck with potatoes . My husband says the potato bugs get fat on seven dust😅so we stopped growing a few years. Last year I planted in 30 gallon grow bags they grew better than we thought. My father in law always planted potatoes on Good Friday and when he set the potato he would give it a twist and cover it up . He’s be gone for 15 years now he was a Good Man , an old time Baptist preacher . Any way enjoy your videos.

I have a couple potato planters that my husband’s grandfather left here, on our farm. I taught my granddaughter how to plant them a couple years ago. She was amazed when we started digging them up! She was 10 at the time.

What are they made with. I have some buckets that I got free at the grocery store that held fresh flowers. I’m hoping those will be ok to plant food in?

I enjoyed this video Mr. Brown and your grandson's helping you. I love God's earth. I love the smell of it and I can taste it when I eat beets which I love.❤

Hello Mr Brown and Miss Lori. You've got good looking grandsons. I agree , everbody plants potatoes different, but in the end when they come up, they are the same. I cut my potatoes like you do. Learned it from my dad. He had a beautiful garden, even tried growing peanuts one year. Had sucess. Guess he mixed the right soil. My parents lived in Gainesville, Mo. Can't wait to see what ya'll be doing next.

What growing zone are you? I'm a 6b and we have been so warm the last few weeks that I'm thinking of planting mine two weeks early. We usually plant around the 17 of March.

I grew potatoes in a cardboard box last summer. They were small but tasted good. A few sweet potatoes. And lots of tomatoes. My grandson planted garlic last fall and they seem to be doing great. The green beans were plentiful. I bought a used rototiller last fall and can’t wait to till the back yard up. 😂 I’m 74 and I’m not as strong as I used to be but I love to garden and can the bounty!
