  • Wilderness Innovation's Osni Gear and PSS (Poncho Survival Shelter)! Howdy folks, I finally had an opportunity to experiment with my Osni Gear and PSS (Poncho Survival Shelter). In this video, I discuss in detail the features and specifications of the Osni Gear and PSS.
I also demonstrate how to make a hammock tree strap with 550 cord and a cinch strap to turn my PSS into a hammock.
I use my PSS as a hammock and my Osni Gear as top and bottom quilts for insulation while hammock camping.
Great items of kit I can't wait to use extensively!

About that hood, when in hammock mode, it drags too close to the ground, so it mightt be useful to (somehow) attach a line to the hood and (somehow) keep the other end accessible to you while you're inside the hammock, so that once you get situated, you can pull on the line and lift the hood up off the ground and against the bottom of the hammock.

I always hang my hammock high. Much more so than anyone I've camped with. I tried pulling it to the inside and laying it as flat as I could, but I could still feel it. Not necessarily uncomfortable, but unpleasantly noticeable.

Also going to stick this here. Since before making my purchases. Had a number of questions. His poncho sizes work like this.
PSS Is the standard sided poncho.
PSSLB is the poncho shown here with 6” longer in the back.
PSSLE is this one except with the front as long as the back. So an extra 6” on the front an back.
Also the XL which the poncho with 6” added to the width on each side. To go further down the arms.
He also has add on options. For the hammock use.
    One is the paracord option.
Another is what he he called a quick connect. In the channel at the base of the poncho will have a dyneema cord with an loop/eye on each end that stays in the bottom hem stored away.
An the other option is that built in cord that snaps in with 2 five foot lengths of daisy chain webbing. And two 3-4” aluminum like tent tubings for a marlin spike to connect it to the webbing around a tree.
Other add on options are Hoodie pocket. So the same type of pocket on your hoodie sweater but added to the poncho.
Another is what he calls is Sleeve extensions. Where there’s an extra 6” width added to the sides only in a small section.
Say you put it out an hold your arms straight out to the side. Where your arms/wrists comes out from under the poncho. In that area there’s an added 6” on each side. With a couple extra snaps.
Which can be snapped around the wrist almost like a cuff on a sleeve.
Also Perry is a great guy. If you have anything you want to know or find out about.
The phone number on his website is to his phone. Your not going to get any secretary or press this number or this one prompt bullshit.
An to top of off. Least every bit I purchased sewn to is is a tag Made In The USA.

Based on your videos, this is the first system of this sort that has truly impressed me...
Going start off getting one of the HD PSSLB w PSE... I could not find a size description for the LE designation however. Looks like it is perhaps extended front AND back ? (edit = it is extended, font AND back.)
I will certainly contact them before ordering, so I get squared away.
Excellent video, thank you for sharing !!

I love my OSNI/PSS combination, but it doesn’t work well as a hammock because it lacks the asymmetrical lay. Further, you have no top cover…so you end up buying the a storm shield that requires a ridge line over the hammock. You have to buy a bunch of add-ons to make this system work as a hammock (e.g., bug net).

    • @boonedockery7220
      @boonedockery7220  6 месяцев назад

I agree that it's limited and lacks a cohesive design theory. However, as individual, multipurpose components, I believe it has merit.

  • @AquaTech225
    @AquaTech225 Год назад +5

Love mine. Have 3 one in the ultralight, one in the grayish colored dyneema blend one I believe was like 40% dyneema, an the last one I got was the Ultra200. Truly bombproof.
I don’t believe he has them two anymore. $430ish bucks each for them two for the quick connect option an sleeve extension. Pricy.
But man I love em. Sleep better in the hammock poncho than a standard hammock.
    The osni gear amazing also.
An being from Louisiana with the bugs. Definitely had to get the slider bugnet.
An a few other things. Great gear. Just wish I found em way sooner. But no regrets.

Have you tried to put the top quilt on before the bottom quilt when using your poncho as a hammock then you won't have to stuff the top quilt into the foot of the hammock then when you synch the bottom it should be wind proof.

Based on your experience with hammock camping,, is this poncho/ hammock system as comfortable and durable as other systems,,,like DD,,,etc.,,,??? As a poncho with a excellent choice of liner’s,,, it looks amazing,,,,!!!! But in relation to Your other hammock systems,, how does it stack Up,,???
I Pray your ruff roads are getting smoother. Our Prayers are with You and Your Family,,,, Joshua

Thank You Very Much Brother Joshua! My ruff roads have gotten worse. My middle daughter has breast cancer and is a very difficult situation in multiple regards. She is expected to make a full recovery but we have a long road ahead of us, again in many regards. That being said, the ruff roads have prevented me from woods time. I plan on taking my W.I. gear to the woods this weekend for a thorough test. My first impressions are that for a multi-use piece of kit is is surprisingly comfortable! It is not as comfortable as my stand alone hammocks from my first impressions. However, I will find out for sure this weekend. I will be posting the video ASAP! Thank you for your prayers! My family has needed them and we have felt the power of those prayers daily! We could not have dealt with what we have nor will handle what lies before us with out those prayers and the mercy, grace and power of our Almighty Father!

I don't know, I'm a back sleeper. Other than bridge hammocks side sleeping is a challenge. Given the smaller size than my dedicated hammocks, I anticipated it would be very unstable and I'd be thrown to the ground like a sack of potatoes. However getting in and out was no problem and once inside it was very comfortable.
