    Aws bin Aws narrated:
    Allah's Messenger said to me:
"Whoever performs Ghusl on Friday, and
    bathes completely, and goes early,
arriving early, gets close and listens and
is silent, there will be for him in every
step he take the reward of a year of

    السلام عليكم و رحمة الله.
A small note about Hadjer عليها السلام, she was the daughter of the King around the area of Egypt. That King tried to sexually abuse Sarah عليها السلام, the wife of Ibrahim عليه الصلاة و السلام, but he couldnt even if he tried so many times, by the will of Allah سبحانه و تعالى. That King was so impressed and scared about what happened to him while trying to abuse the wife of the prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام, so he decided to give his daughter as servant to Sarah عليها السلام. She then decided to mary Ibrahim عليه السلام to Hadjer عليها السلام.
You can check the story in the book البداية و النهاية and some other books that use only authentic and checked narrations, احاديث صحيحة.

Hagar in the Bible is the daughter of Pharaoh, so she wasn't a slave in Egypt, but according to the Jews she was an Egyptian princess. See Genesis 16:1-3 and the commentary from Gen. Rabbah 45:1-3. The Pharaoh gifts his daughter as a bondswoman (or handmaid) to Abraham's wife. According to the Islamic histories, Hajar was the daughter of the King of Egypt and she'd been given to Ibraheem(as). So the stories are similar, although in both traditions there's also the idea that she used to be a slave girl in Egypt. This might be because she is known as "an Egyptian slave", but that's from the perspective of Sarah. According to a Jewish commentary, the Pharaoh said: "It is better that my daughter be a handmaid in this household, than a mistress in another household." Some Muslims claim that Hajar was of black Nubian descent, but I can't find any sources for that. I've also heard that she was a descendant of Hud(as) or Salih(as): can't recall which one. If this is true, then Hajar would have been from the Northern parts of the Arabian Peninsula. The Biblical exegetes mention a Pharaoh, whereas the Islamic narrative speaks of a King, instead. This distinction isn't without meaning, because the actual title "Pharaoh" might not have been used yet during the time of Ibraheem(as). In that regard, the Islamic narrative's historicity is accurate, whereas the Jewish commentaries might be incorrect in naming the Egyptian King a "Pharaoh". The title "Pharaoh" is from ~1200 BC, while Ibrahaam(as) was born in Ur Kasdim, and probably passed away several centuries before the title came to be used. My point being that even though the Islamic narrative is younger than the Jewish one, it's more accurate, from an objective point of view. At any rate, whether she was black, brown, proto-Arab herself or whatever type of Semite isn't very relevant to me personally. I do think it more likely that she was a princess and that she might have been a descendant of one of the prophets of old, and she is an ancestor of Muhammad(saw). I dislike it when people want to claim her as their own, based on race and skin color. It shows how the mind operates: us vs them mentality. People's status does not depend on such irrelevant, incidental characteristics. Hajar is greatly honored in Islam, and we view her as one of the mothers of the believers.

Slavery is holding someone against their will, no matter or you try to bend the rules it’s still slavery, yes of course the conditions weren’t the same as what Africans went thru in America, but none the less it is still slavery, and to continue to try to defend only in order to make Muslims feel better is corrupt, I’m Muslim and this is something I suffer with knowing, but if we must be honest with ourselves the truth is the truth. Slavery still exists in Arab countries, and slavery existed back in Islamic days, if someone not a slave they wouldn’t have the need to be set free.

@@sensaiathleticz8725 Your definition of slavery isn't sufficient to describe the practice in a wider, historical reality. Not all slaves were held against their will. It's a complex topic, with many aspects, facets, reasons and experiences that ought to be incorporated. I don't really think you can describe it with one sweeping statement. I do agree that the practice by its nature facilitates an abuse of power, and most people would've likely found it difficult not to fall into serious injustices. Freeing slaves is part of the Islamic teachings, but in the pre-industrial revolution world, the practice was somewhat inherent to how societies functioned. I think we shouldn't divorce the practice from the reality of that old world, or we're left with this kind of vile thing that exists in our minds, and we then judge and condemn societies, religions and peoples based on this isolated, evil thing, ignoring the details. Besides, there are valid definitions one could apply to slavery that would result in having to describe the majority of people in the West right now as slave laborers. It never really bothered me all that much, because I think I have a somewhat nuanced view, and I feel like I understand the dynamics, mechanisms and reasons for the practice in that old world. As such, it's not to make me 'feel better', because I don't really feel bad about it. Doesn't mean that there haven't been gross injustices, incidents and ugly situations, but because slavery (in its many forms) was pretty much a universal phenomenon, throughout mankind's history, I find it unfair to simply call it 'evil' and basically condemn all societies before the industrial revolution. Because that's what really ended slavery. People think that it was because of the moral superiority of the British, but that's nonsense. They had very practical and financial reasons to abolish it. I won't go into detail, but I studied the correlation between the movement towards its abolishment and the social, economic details that were occurring in England (primarily). It's very closely related. Factories were opening, making it possible to produce certain goods en masse, and the poor English classes were in desperate need of income. They would've risked internal conflict if they'd kept using external slaves. Like I said, it's complicated. Apologies for the long reply, just some thoughts. Assalaamu aleikum.

    السلام عليكم
Shamsi makes a strong argument but the problem is once one takes a close look , the majority of slaves in many Islamic empires/civilizations were purchased and kidnapped , there was not necessarily a jihad by the rules of Islam. Slavery became a major source of income in many Islamic civilizations and it often became racialized and ethnically biased. Hiding it or ignoring it no longer works. Also the problems of Eunuchs , the majority of Islamic civilizations had them. It is sickening once you study about it. Also many scholars allowed it with rulings saying if you killed a slave there is no punishment even if the slave was Muslim. All of these things are known , documented in history . The examples Shamsi gave with the western laws are not the same , a citizen obeying laws is not a slave as the citizen can leave the country , has freedom of movement , can't be sold and bought. I admire what his effort but we as Muslims are still down playing and white Washing the evil of Muslims in the past. This is the information age , it can no longer be hidden or swept under the rug. May Allah help us.

Although very (extremely) rare, their are "slaves"( or servitudes) in yemen...(claiming these servants are descendent of servants for over 1000yrs)... although there are organisations in yemen trying to free them... we can't say it doesnt exist but we can say its an extreme case. There is slavery in the UK doesnt mean its legal.

    Few points that Shamsi missed...
#1...The Arabs claim that prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is descended from the KEDARITES.
KEDAR is a Hebrew word given to prophet Ishmael's (PBUH) 2nd son (See: Genesis 25:13).
Kedar translated from the Hebrew literally means...BLACK SKINNED
#2...There were of course FEMALE prophets (PBUT)
The most famous is MIRIAM (PBUH) the SISTER of prophets Moses & Aaron (PBUT)
Exodus 15:20...And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
    There was DEVORAH (PBUH)
Judges 4:4...And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.
And there are more FEMALE PROPHETS (PBUT)
#3...Allah subhana wa ta ala says to FOLLOW THE GUIDANCE of the earlier prophets (PBUT)
Quran 6:90...These are they whom Allah guided, therefore follow their guidance. Say: I do not ask you for any reward for it; it is nothing but a reminder to the nations.
    That is #1
Then, you can quote Quran 10:94..."But if you are in doubt as to what We have revealed to you, ask those who read the Book before you; certainly the truth has come to you from your Lord, therefore you should not be of the disputers."
    If you don't know...ask somebody.
Yes...there are a lot of things that were put in and taken out, etc. However, there is still a lot of needed information in the earlier scriptures. Especially, the PROPHECIES that are being fulfilled around us TODAY.

Shamsi said if an atheist talks to you about slavery tell them you are slave to the government. That is false and that will land you in hot water in a debate. Firstly because that is whataboutism, secondly because we in the UK and the western world are not in slavery at all. Following rules is not slavery. Slavery is when you do not consent, or when your consent is under duress. Anyone is free to leave the UK when they want, providing the country they wish to go to will accept them. In addition to that if anyone wants leave the Uk and no longer be a citizen they can contact the home office. No one is forcing anyone to live in the Uk and follow the rules.
I say that because of English history, and it’s importance and we should give it respect. The Magnat Carta declared that Every man of Briton was a sovereign and consents to the governed and is no longer a slave or a serf but has a relationship with leadership as a sovereign and freeman.
Different to many Middle Eastern countries where citizens are actually serfs. If the leader or king wants the land from you he can take it. If he wants to raise your tax you can’t dispute it or protest it. If he tells you tomorrow he wants to build a Hindu temple you can’t protest it, if he makes allies with those who persecute Muslims you can’t protest or dispute this. There is no due course, or civil participation. Hence the term Malik which means owner.

Every govt imposes rules that a group or groups may not like but have to follow, the recent example being of wearing masks and getting vaccinated. Many people opposed it but due to strict regulataions people accepted it. You said people can leave if they want, sometimes it isn't that easy. ; financial problems being some of many difficulties that they might face and lastly, slavery doesnt always mean being in a position without your consent, some people are slave to their whims. Sometimes you might not like something either imposed by the govt or the place you work but you still comply because of the consequences if you don't.

@@arfakhattak1015 Firstly what you are stating is called compromise. Compromise is not slavery. If your father told you that you need to be in bed by 9 it doesn't mean your father is a slave owner. Living in a civil society we must compromise but it does not mean we are slaves. Telling people to wear a mask is not slavery, that argument is also a double edged sword, because it could be said that in a sharia government when they make it mandatory for women to wear hijab is it considered slavery? you have to see things both ways. In regards to financial issues to leave the UK, that is irrelevant. In some countries in Europe they pay refugees to leave, they give them £5000-10,000 to go. However the choice is there when you get your savings together, you arent bonded. Being a slave to whims and desires is completely different to being a real slave. Being a real slave you have no real way of emancipation, but in 10 mins you can decide if you want to stop smoking and stop the bad habit. Compliance is not slavery it is compromise, if you don't like your job you can hand in your notice, you can even set up your own business.
