I think this 2A meant to be the current which can draw maximum at any conversion. So for an example 12 to 24 conversion if you set the input current to 2A, 12Vx2A=24W and the output will be 24W/24A - (loss of the conversion) = less than 1A. So I hope it works as they specified.

If i put at the back of this board a dissipator + thermal pad + fan i can get more current? Or at least a close fan. You had to isolate the air from the fan, because it was interfering.
I am learning a lot from your videos, thanks :-) Is it recommended to use converter to regulate 2x1.2V AA = 2.4V to 5V for Arduino? (if I want to have minimal batteries for portable arduino project with low current consumption)
You are welcome I am glad to hear that. If you need 5 volts, yes you can use 2AA batteries but you must connect them in series (+ of one to - of another and you will let with + and - to use. This can power small project with very little power. Also the quality of AA batteries very. Make sure you get good quality so they last longer.
Shorts eventually have on a 8.4 v ion battery high current when she runs normal single operating all ok, but when i use a 2 operating line seems ok but just not right starts to get worse from there and other functions stop running eventually shorts got it running at current but after the first crash anda few on the original i dont want to blow it till i get the issue and a fix hopefully soon😆.

it will for sure output 12V because it is boost converter. It is all about power P=IxV where I is current in Ampere. Output power can NEVER be greater than input. We will always have 5% to 20% losses.
Thanks for your time in making your review. I wanted to ask a question. If the input on the converter changes does it also mirror the same changes in the output? Or does the output stay the same regardless of any fluctuations of Voltage/Current from the input? Thank you & I look forward to your reply
Can't power my 12V 1.05A fan with it properly. From 5V source. When i increase the current limit, around 1.58A it starts to show voltage limit, then current limit on the bench psu, and the fan spins down a little, then back up again, and then down, it repeats. Measured the output, it was around 7.6V instead of 12V.
@@robojax I mean, if i set the psu to not limit the current, and set the voltage to 5V on it, shouldn't the boost converter just draw enought current to power a 12V fan that i'm using with? Or i'm totally getting this wrong.
@@robojax It is working with a lower current fan (0.3A), but i needed the bigger one, for a fume extractor project. Guess i will need to find another solution, to drive that 1.05A fan, gonna get some laptop psu or something. Anyways, thanks for the help and reply, and thank you for your videos.
here on page 6 of datasheet, there is formula for Vout. you need VREF which says is 0.6V. So you pick your let's R2 10k ohm and find R1. you can use also online calculator to find the unknown.
i am a total noob on electronics. i am planning to use this for my 9v music pedal. it draws less then 1 amp. i want to use my powerbank (5v output) as my power source. this mt3608 would work for this purpose? thanks.
i replaced the100k 25 turn multi turn pot with a normal 100 normal 270 degree trimpot. the 25 trimpot is really stupid and you need a screwdriver and there is no knob for it anywhere
it is all about power P, voltage V and Current I. Now P=V*I, input V=5V, I=1.5V, P=5*1.5 = 7.5W and using for output this P=I*V we can find I=P÷V, P=7W because0.5W is wasted as heat. V=27V, I=P÷V= 7÷27=0.259A so yes you can get 250mA. Now remember it is all about power.
and here is schematic for the module www.kynix.com/editor_u/pdf/20220222/Operation-Of-the-Mt3608-Step-Up-Module.jpg shown in this page www.kynix.com/components/MT3608-DC-DC-Converter-Datasheet-Circuit-Schematic.html
I mentioned in the video that you have to turn it 10 to 15 times before you see any changes. If that doesn't happen after few tries, then the module is bad.
Thanks ..excellent rewiew .I want to use it with lion battery at rc glider plane .if input is between 2.8v-3.7v ,output is 5v. How much current is it handle stable .can I get 1.5 or 1.7 amper ?Thanks
You are welcome. I believe I give the answer in the video. If I want to answer your question, i would have to watch it the video. so you watch it. It is the power. P=IxV (I is current , v is voltage). So Output P = ) ( Input P -15% of input)
Who else applied more than 6v to these out of the packet and popped them? Apparently there is a design fault as the Vref pin can't handle more than 6v and the modules are supplied set on minimum which applies the full voltage to this pin. To avoid this issue apply a maximum of 5v then setup the voltage you want (turn the pot ANTICLOCKWISE).
Isn't this all about watts? It looks like at low voltages, you get only about 3 watts of power, and at higher voltages you can get up to 6 watts output? .........Output voltage MINUS input voltage TIMES output amps, right? VOUT - VIN X Amps Out = Power Watts.
it is all about Power with the unit of WATT. So this module can never add to the Power. So output Power is always less than input. We always have some losses.
Can I use it to reduce the voltage for 3,7v rechargeable batteries? I want to make a rechargeable battery for my Transistor tester... it's working with 9v battery... and I do have plenty of 3,7v rechargeable batteries...im thinking to connect them in series and after to reduce the voltage to 9v...
I want to connect 2 same modules MT3608 in the outputs 3.3V/16A and 5v/25A of a PSU ATX. Can I do this? Is there a danger about the high output currents 16A and 25A of PSU ATX for damage (burning)?
@@robojax Hi my friend. I have watched the video. I know the maximum output is 2A. I think you have not see my question. I ask about the INPUT of the high currents 16A and 25A of PSU ATX.
I got same modules from ALI however they deliver only max 400mA from input 3.5 to output 5V. The chip used on my modules is marked XT1208, I assume it is a fake or a chip with lower current capability, anybody knows about that model?
see the test I have done. I am not sure what was the current. Also if you input source can't supply more power, the output will never do that. for example if you want 5V 800mA the Output power Po=5(0.8)=4W then the input power Pi=4(1.15)=4.6W (1.15 is 15% losses). So when your 3.5V, I=P÷V=4.6÷3.5=1.31A, are you supplying (at least) 1.31A to the module? Good luck.

voltage has no meaning. it is the power or current that is important. I have shown how much current (power =voltage X current) this module can handle. so see that and if the total current for your motors does not exceed the value I shown, yes you can use it. for the the voltage I have shown what is the minimum voltage that you can connect.

oh, and you may like the "MCP73871 Power Boost USB 5V" Board, The black one, it can Charge and supply power to the applikation at the same time and so on, maybe you get one to test it?
Hi, calculate the input power 3x5=15W and the output power 14x1=14W output is less than input, so it should work. See my test as I don’t remember what value was on he current at that voltage. If it is 1A output then you bare good.
Hi, I wanted to step up 3V stable output from arduino to at least 7- 10 V for the load. But looks like this is not working for me. Did this thing broke? Should I try a new one? I have turned the screw many times in both clockwise and anticlockwise direction nothing is happening? Any guess?
voltage is V, Current is I and power is P. So P=IV and you have a battery 3.7(2)=7.4W and get 10(19)=190W. it is like you have $7.4 and want to be able to buy stuff worth $190. so you can play with Current I and Voltage V but P never increases.

Hi, yes and No. No because not all Arduino has Digital to Analog (DAC), Yes, get a board that has DAC and you may build extra circuit to make it work. not all converters can be connected to Microcontrollers such as Arduino.
Thank you for the video. Is it possible to connect 2 of these circuits in parallel to get double the current. I want to get 11V 1.5A. I only have a 5V 2A and a 5V 1A power supply
You are welcome. if you can set maximum the voltage exactly the same for both modules. Yes it will work. for power output see the result as I don't remember what voltage or current this module worked.
Can this be used to just boost a power drop back to 5V. I'm making a long LED run and would like to patch in something that will boost the power back up to the original voltage as it starts to drop.
first why power drop? if power drop is not due to weakness of sours. This booster uses the power. if the source can supply enough current, it will boost it.

Nice video. Any boost module which can boost 3v to 12v minimum and can handle current of 3A without any heat sink.
If i put at the back of this board a dissipator + thermal pad + fan i can get more current?
Or at least a close fan.
You had to isolate the air from the fan, because it was interfering.
maximum rated current is 2A so you won't get more than 2a.
yes I should've isolated. I did notice is and did that in the upcoming video.s Thank you.

Is it recommended to use converter to regulate 2x1.2V AA = 2.4V to 5V for Arduino?
(if I want to have minimal batteries for portable arduino project with low current consumption)
You are welcome I am glad to hear that.
If you need 5 volts, yes you can use 2AA batteries but you must connect them in series (+ of one to - of another and you will let with + and - to use.
This can power small project with very little power. Also the quality of AA batteries very. Make sure you get good quality so they last longer.
Shorts eventually have on a 8.4 v ion battery high current when she runs normal single operating all ok, but when i use a 2 operating line seems ok but just not right starts to get worse from there and other functions stop running eventually shorts got it running at current but after the first crash anda few on the original i dont want to blow it till i get the issue and a fix hopefully soon😆.
this is based on the chip. so all of them should be okay. Good luck.

Hmm. If input is 7.4V, is that chip able to provide 1.5A@12V?
it will for sure output 12V because it is boost converter.
I have tested and presented that. Output does not change as the input changes.
It's changes dear I am gonna make a video regarding same , this module is good only for LED bulb I guess not even LED bulbs I hope u got my point
So basically, with a decent heatsink/cooling, it could work even better?
Yes
Can't power my 12V 1.05A fan with it properly. From 5V source. When i increase the current limit, around 1.58A it starts to show voltage limit, then current limit on the bench psu, and the fan spins down a little, then back up again, and then down, it repeats. Measured the output, it was around 7.6V instead of 12V.
Your total output power can be more than the input power. Is the input power enough?
@@robojax I mean, if i set the psu to not limit the current, and set the voltage to 5V on it, shouldn't the boost converter just draw enought current to power a 12V fan that i'm using with? Or i'm totally getting this wrong.
It should get 12v and the output current is what I have tested it as I don’t remember. Yes it should
@@robojax It is working with a lower current fan (0.3A), but i needed the bigger one, for a fume extractor project. Guess i will need to find another solution, to drive that 1.05A fan, gonna get some laptop psu or something. Anyways, thanks for the help and reply, and thank you for your videos.
Can anyone tell me what will be the value of R1 AND R2 if we want to get fixed 6.7V output not using rheostat to adjust.Input is 3.7-4.2v
here on page 6 of datasheet, there is formula for Vout. you need VREF which says is 0.6V. So you pick your let's R2 10k ohm and find R1. you can use also online calculator to find the unknown.

What will happen if you increase the input voltage? Let's say you set the voltage to 12v and you increase the input up to 12.6v or higher.
I believe I have shown it. The output will not change if you change input
But you can add mosfet on the chips output then it will not heat up that much and will deliver more curent(sorry about my english)

Can I use it to have an output of 150mA - 27V with 1.5A - 5V Input. Will it be able to even covert 27V from 5V.?
it is all about power P, voltage V and Current I.
Hi dear. Can you inform to me the both smd capacitors value which is placed on left side and right side of the small chip. Thanks and regards
Hi, see the datasheet here www.olimex.com/Products/Breadboarding/BB-PWR-3608/resources/MT3608.pdf they have mentioned the capacitors values

when i connect 5v from a usb output and transform it to 12v it makes a weird clicking noise. Have you any idea what cause it?
There might be vibration from the largest piece which is inductor or coil.
The converter is not rated for 3A, but for up to 800mA, and a peak of 3A for a short time only.
Yes thanks. On eBay and AliExpress they sell it as such. We have to show them it is not working.
I have an battery that puts out 5v with this thing it only goes power down and not higher like 12v what should i do?
Xl6009 or mt3608 which one is better?
to different thing. I am not sure.
GREAT VIDEO. ¿can we use it for charging LI-ION batteries? thank you
No you can't because it doesn't have Constant Current (CC) .

@@LuisFSilva-wl6yu No, constant current isn't DC
How do you stop it from turning off when you conect a load
reduce the load capacity. if this module can handle only 1A and you connect 2A, it will shut off.
We always have some losses.
why 5V 2A = 10 W is failing, however, 24V 1A is working
because the 2A current is the problem. power is not a problem with this converter.
suggest me 2A output bored not getting heat up
It can convert i/p 5V 0.2A to O/P 12V 1A
Great vedio 👍
Can this be used on headlight led bulbs which are rated 9v to 36v? Can it handle a 12v converted to say 15v continuous for those led bulbs?

Sorry but i don’t understand... what is the max power that it can work?
I don't know . I have to watch it to tell you. So watch and see what is the maximum current and voltage I got VxI =Power
Good luck.
is it possible to hook it up to the led without xl4015

voltage has no meaning. it is the power or current that is important. Hi, calculate the input power 3x5=15W and the output power 14x1=14W output is less than input, so it should work. See my test as I don’t remember what value was on he current at that voltage. If it is 1A output then you bare good.
what happened if input is 12v and the output is set to 12v?
it means the output is set to lower than 12V and the module does not reduce it. Reduce the input to 5V and you can get 12V or lower up to 6V.

Is there any converter that can convert from a battery that have 3.7V; 2amps and 10000mAh to 19v 4Amps in order to charge a laptop ? ?
voltage is V, Current is I and power is P. So P=IV and you have a battery 3.7(2)=7.4W and get 10(19)=190W. it is like you have $7.4 and want to be able to buy stuff worth $190. so you can play with Current I and Voltage V but P never increases.
