Thanks, Pat. One time I walked out of my place on Sukhumvit 61. It was just starting to rain. I went and got on the #2, bus, my favorite at the time, and off we went...for 10 meters, then stopped. It really started to poor, and by the time I got to Soi 53 I had to get off and give up. I stepped out into water up to my knees, cried a quick tear at the danger I put myself into, and slopped it all the way home. Another time I went to pick up an airplane ticket from my place way out Ramkanhaeng Rd., back when they had those "splashy" 35 baht Air-con mini-buses with TV's up front. Woop. I got the ticket and decided to have lunch before getting back on one of those buses and going home. I made it - 7 hours later. The bus driver was a great guy. He would get out and go into a place renting videos and get a new one for us. We watch 3 or 4 of them by the time I stepped out. Those were the days.
Thank you for showing us this video of the flooding in Bangkok Pat. You are right these Condo Tour videos don't tend to show the negatives of living in Bangkok such as the flooding seen in this video. Its good to get a balanced view of live in Bangkok. Especially as someone who is planning a move to Bangkok next year to live I need to be aware that this may happen.
Brilliant topic, the rainy day experienced in March 2022 was the happiest day as it lowered temps from mid high 30s to a comfortable level that was bearable even in soaking wet clothes
I just rode on my bike in Bangkok from Terminal 21 home, about 5min or so. It was raining like from buckets. That was not the bad part. Normally rain in warm in Thailand. But today, for whatever reason, the rain was cold, or at least a lot colder than usual. 5min was just about acceptable, and then I needed a long hot shower at home. Enjoy!
Recently I was in Thailand again for the first time in 6 years and I noticed the same thing. The rain was in fact cold water, totally unlike I remember.
Excellent! My husband prefers rainy season to the peak season with it's insanely high levels of 2.5 particular matter. Me, I like it when we get a hard rain once every 2-3 days to clean the air a bit.
Great video. What is striking is the resilience of the locals just getting on with it. If that level of flooding was to occur in the UK on that scale the country would just grind to a halt.
Excellent video Pat, I really liked looking back on the floods of years past. It's obvious that there needed to be better infrastructure to cope with the current situation, at least something is being done. I spend a lot of time looking at weather maps due to my work, and everything seems to be moving to the extreme. I have a more positive outlook as I believe that there's always a solution. Bangkok does look beautiful in the wet.
Hi, I have to commend your great filming and excellent research and footage 👏. Cannot imagine how many shoes you ruined in the making of this great film. Much appreciated 🙏
Other great ep pat wow they had some floods over the years. I was thinking when you said 1942 to think the world was at war. I am coming over in February and I will be in touch with you about a walking tour
Hi Pat, excellent video, real pro!!!! I was in the Emporium yesterday and came out about 1:30PM hoping to get back to Suk 34. Got soaked trying to get a taxi, 5 ignored me, 3 tried to rip me off, despite the risk of being shot by them I let rip and gave a piece of my mind. Any opportunity to fleece farang. Anyway I finally got an ok guy and got back to my hotel. I cancelled a meal in Central Chidlom with a friend. Iam flying from DMK about midday...hopefully. Again congrats on your video.
Great vlog... and excellent timing! I have been researching this topic, as I consider possible locations for a future retirement in SE Asia. It is good to see that, in Bangkok, at least, the government has been working to address/mitigate the problem, over the past years, with real-world engineering solutions.
Very timely video Pat (our family home in Chiang Rai was submerged during the floods some 7 weeks ago); ta very much for raising everyone's awareness about this issue. I for one never knew it could get so bad in Bangkok itself so now I'm going to read up on some of the history you covered, starting with the floods of 1942.
Nice video and a great topic! Quickly got to love rainy season in Thailand. In BKK, always carried a good collapsible umbrella and a pair of plastic flip-flops.
Another excellent work! I would fall into the cyclical category that as with anything in life it whether it's the weather, politics or financial markets it's all cyclical.
I have one tortoiseshell cat and had many during my life and love their intelligence and caring! Lived in Thailand for 25 years and just turned 68 and am married to an ingenious Thai lady who started in Koh Samui but after 14 years living there with a nice house close to the Gulf of Thailand wanted to move to her hometown of Nakhon Sawan where I bought a new home in a small Thai village an hour away from the city, peaceful. No rain for a couple of weeks but might get some here tonight on Sunday the 17th, Peace, and Love 🌖☮✌💖 p.s. I do remember it flooding on Koh Samui a long time ago, maybe it was 2011, and riding my motorcycle with water coming up to my knees and it stalled and started again after a few tries.
Interesting vlog Pat. And the footage or the floods OMG never been during the rainy season. The old footage from the 40s and the more recent was interesting to see how they felt with it . Bless Pat you were proper soaked .
After living here 30 years and knowing Bangkoks ‘damp’ spots well, the water has progressively gotten cleaner and shallower, apart from 2011, that was pretty bad
In September 2023 we had dinner at "Steve Cafe' & Cuisine" on the Chao Phraya. When we arrived, we had to be carted across the street on a 3 wheel bicycle pushed by a young boy hired by the restaurant because the entrance was flooded. By the time we finished our amazing dinner, 2 hours, the river was cresting into the restaurant, soaking the floors. My wife and I started to wonder if we were going be able to get out. All the locals we were dining with didn't bat an eye. It was par for the course apparently. It happens all the time. 10 foot rise in the river caused by a distant rain storm was a daily occurrence. Climate change? I suppose you could say that, I feel the climate change every minute. Did you feel it? I think it was just a normal week night in a rainy city in the rainy season. I'll never forget it, it was amazing.
Thank you Pat; I will be using some of your video here at St Marks International School today in Suan Luang as my Year 5 are learning about the long term effects of overpopulation on BKK and environs. Thanks.
I always used to visit Thailand in November. I liked it because it was busy but not packed. However when I visited Phuket in November of 2022 it was if the monsoon never stopped. I now visit in January and February.
Another great video all in all, Pat !! I do wonder if the addition of the wetlands area in Benjakitti has not only improved the flooding down there but also motivated other public space to be converted to a similarly environmentally happy space (?) AND I must also wonder if that BBC ‘Fish’ was fried and sacked…. 😁 keep on keeping on, your work is the best by far! (🤙 you’ll be seeing me sooner than you might think 😎🤙😎) 🤙 Mahalos & Aloha 🤙
Thanks for the video, You must have call up for some rain, I am sitting here at 3:55 pm, and the rain is coming down here in Pattaya now. All good though, Take care Pat.
Bangkok Pat never disappoints with his video
The best YT channel out there ! Hands down.
Cheers Bradley😇🥰
Absolutely 🙏🇬🇧😊
Indeed. Edited well and shows Pats music "skills". On top of that he dresses sharp and doesn't look like a cheap "influencer" tourist.
Wonderful start to the day... Bangkok pats put a new video out! 🎉🎉🎉😎👍
You take a long time to get your videos out but the wait's always worthwhile and has depth.
No need to complain. Quality over quantity
I apologise for that. There was an issue with RUclips after the content of the last video, the first edit not the one l uploaded later.
We have missed you Pat..
Thanks, Pat.

I would be worried about what nasties are in that water. Don't be walking in it with any type of open sores no matter how small.
Pattaya has some waterborne delights too!
Like your bath tub
I had neither of those so l wasn't worried.
@@senianns9522just got flooded
Perfect timing for a rainy day vid in Bangkok… 👍🏼👍🏼
I rushed this out when the rains came down today!

If planning to move somewhere, most important thing is that you have experienced and stayed there before.
Cool footage and very fascinating.
Excellent, I have been waiting for a new Bangkok Pat drop. I haven't even watched it, yet, but I gave it a like. Pat's quality is consistent.
I love your sense of humor Pat!
Thanks Pat, I really enjoy historical videos, so keep up the good work 😊
Releasing the video rigbt after another heavy rainstorm just passed over Bangkok ...555
I rushed the video out when it started raining today!
Haha heh it just pissed down. Very quick editing Mr Pat!
It was tactically timed....
Wow how good is your work. Fantastic 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
12:30 ... and again a perfect match of musik and pictures !!! So nice !!! Thank you !!!
Your videos and soundtracks normally are excellent but this one is beyond exceptional, Pat. Thank you so much
Cheers, I choose the music with the clips carefully!
Thanks Pat, pure quality as always.
Entertaining and informative, with an informal tone. Cheers, Pat.

Really enjoyed it, thank you Pat. Great historical photos and footage. You must have gotten through a few pairs of shoes!

You are the best Pat. Thx for superior videos.
Great video, thanks!
Excellent video Pat. I might show it to a few of my work mates who are planning a holiday there early next October.
Hopefully won't be as bad next year....
Great research and video Pat. You’re the best.

Bangkok does look beautiful in the wet.
If you look at drainage pipe in front of McDonald's on beach road 🛣️ it's full of sludge.
I think a good cleaning is all that's needed.
Good to see you again, my friend. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾
Great video mate. So much work, remarkable clips plus all your great footage. Thankyou.
