- Bangkok's Sathorn district is full of stuff you won't find in tourist areas ....it has been Bangkok's most prestigious district for many years. It is rich in money, power, high rollers, high society,, expensive property and land prices. Also many historical events in Sathorn have shaped the way Bangkok has evolved into the modern metropolis it is today. I took a walk down the first part of Sathorn Road from Lumpinee to Chong Nonsi and found a lot to show and tell you all about.

Best historical videos of Bangkok for sure.
Professional Quality every single time.
His video editing is really an inspiration.
Absolutely agree.
No one does this kind of videos about Bangkok dating back to decades . Appreciate all you have done to make these precious videos possible….
Thank you very much for the kind words!
Outstanding work. You continue to push the bar higher. Absolutely the best Bangkok YT channel for true lovers of the Kingdom🙏🙏 But please 😫 stop giving away our non tourist secrets🤣🤣🙏
So interesting to see the old village photos of neighborhoods before being transformed into skyscrapers. Thanks for the research and historical stories!
Cheers Anton 😎🐱
Yes, those are great to see. I wish I could have started my BKK adventure 50-90 years earlier, but you get what you get.
Hard to believe this area was all farmland and villages. Exponential growth, even in the 20 years since I first lived there.
Sathorn Road brought back memories for me. I got married to my Thai wife in the old Australian Embassy in 1988.
Thank you for a other great video on the history of Bangkok.
Pat's videos feels like a breath of fresh air and have such a calming effect so its almost as he could add the letters "ASMR" in the description text of each new release. Once again I am blown away by his meticulous research and ability to find sensible information about remarkable people, places and venues. And it make me once again miss the back alleys and lesser trodden street's of Bangkok.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed the video! And thanks for the kind words too.
A tremendous programme, as usual. Your script with it's wry humour is the icing on the cake.
Cheers Carl🐱
Really enjoyed this. Looking forward to part two.
I fell down on my knees and prayed when our guy Pat finally took a deep look into Sathorn District. I have purpose of life now!
Soft Cell singer Marc Almond stays at the Lebua Tower hotel every time he visits Bangkok.
Thanks for covering the M.R.Kukrit Pramoj home-museum, which is every bit as interesting as the Jim Thompson home-museum. The only difference it's not swarming with tourists and photograph-taking all around the house is welcome. And there are no guides to hustle you around. It's as underrated as Thompson is overrated.
Sadly it has been closed for the last 2-3yrs. I think his achievements outweigh Jim Thompsons!
Thanks again for the excellent coverage of the Sathorn road area. Back in the mid 80's, I was a student summer hire at JUSMAG Thai and was given the task of painting the interior of the building that runs along the wall on Sathorn road. The lower level had a large room with a blank wall. I asked the Navy chief I was working for if I could paint the Thai and U.S. flags on the blank wall. It took some time but looked pretty good for an amateur. I am sure it has long been painted over but that was a lot of fun and will always bring back a great memory when I go down Sathorn.
Loved going there for their BBQs. It was a bit of a step back in time even 35 years ago.
Fantastic video. Thank for your hard work.
I juat want to say THANK YOU, really enjoy your videos, I have been to Bangkok 3 times and cant wait to go back really really like this city!
Been visiting Thailand for 30 years, Sathorn is usually our base where we stay. Great video.
Cmon Pat you should’ve been dancing on that glass skywalk like you were in your disco dj days😊🕺
I think it's incredible that less than a century ago there were villages and orchids in this area. Amazing Thailand.
Best video’s of bangkok 😊
Love the appreciation of the BTS guiderails. I remember being on the train one day and reminded of the intro feedback of Hendrix’s guitar with almost that exact same sound :) guess the tracks needed a little oil. Used to live near Suan Phlu - brilliant stuff Pat!
Amazing content again Pat,,, loved the history on Kukrit.... you have a history lesson for the public soon,,, is there still openings?
Very exciting video of this Bangkok Wall Street. Great job Pat, thanks for showing us your city with all the in depth knowledge from days gone by until current day, which makes it so interesting. 👏🏻👍
They call it that, but the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is near Sukhumvit & Asok, not in Sathon.
Wow what a great video. Well researched, well edited and thoroughly entertaining. Awesome job Pat!
Pat, another great vid.
from constantly binging this channel's content, i know more about bangkok (a city i've never been) than i do about my own city, which i've lived my whole life 😭
Another great video on our amazing city of angels. Thank you, Pat 🙏🏽
Another excellent video! Thank you for all of the effort you put into your work. Also, it was great meeting you when I was in town a few weeks ago. My walking tour was one of the highlights of my trip.
Just a thought …great work but maybe you could slow it down to explain more of the history…. This is good stuff for people living here. Thanks
Best of the best!
Lived in Siri Sathorn for 8 months. Nice area.
Nice one again Pat.
Strong memory of the (former) Aussie Embassy site. My dad worked there for a while in the Commerce Section, later he became an executive at Supalai. The land deal took place long after he retired from working, but shortly before he passed away and before the embassy was to be demolished, he and other former embassy staff were invited to a farewell tour of the building.
Now I work in a building next to Chong Nonsi BTS station but haven't ventured out to explore the area in earnest. I ride a bicycle to work (20-40 km per day) and the bike lane, while not perfect, is better than nothing.
Thank you for the useful information, Mr. Alain Delon
Thanks Pat. Just wrapping up a 2 week stay in Sathorn, lots of places I’ve walked by but plenty of layers of detail from you 👍🏻
Great video - upvoted
Good video Pat. I could relate to mostly all of your narrative.
Older expats all remember the Thai immigration office there before moving to Chang Wattana. It was the worse mad house ever😅!
Nice
Thank you for another great video. I really enjoyed it.🙏
You did it again... thanks for another interesting video! 👍
Yep, all three, interesting ,educational & exciting. Love the old photos. Amazing how quickly this part of Bangkok has changed in such a short time. As already mentioned, it appears to be exponential growth, the real dramatic growth in the last twenty years. Sad to see a certain way of life's demise but "progress" waits for no one . Thanks for posting.
Simply the best….
very interesting
I would like to go to Trok Silom the next time I'm there in vibrant Bangkok.
Thrilled.
You have outdone yourself once again!
Highly educational and an exciting piece of art in perfect production.
Congratulations and many thanks again!
PS: So the signature tune for Germany has been changed from the Valkyrie ride to the pow'r station style.
😉
The best part of the city imho
Another very interesting video, thanks.
Thank you once again Pat for another great video and history of the area. 👍🙏🙏🙏
Solid.
Excellent. Babylon closed down in 2021 though.
Amazing video! Great work, thank you so much for sharing, been driving and walking down Sathorn Rd many times, but did not know about so many interesting, historical fact's. 😊👍🏻
Liked this one Pat it was very informative as usual like all of your vlogs.
Regarding the Kings Hotel on Sathon south Road, I stayed there for a month in 1975 for the Princely sum of just £30 👍
Every trip, I spent at least one evening at the top of The Banyan Tree, and sipped drinks while overlooking the city.
I was living at the Sathorn District for over a year from 2022-2023, your video has just reminded me all these places especially the Suan Phlu area cause I often took the bus #62 and the BRT at Chong Nonsi to get home.
Thanks for the great video again ! 👍
Pat, it's getting impossible to find enough superlatives to compliment you on these great and fascinating videos, and you must really spend a lot of time researching and preparing. Plus your relaxed style is probably the best amongst those who produce Bangkok videos. Looking forward to part 2.
Always looking forward to a new episode from you !!!
Great👍
Great video
Will have to try trok silom.
I always thought the Aussie embassy was down in the pub....
Stayed at the Embassy Hotel in 2018. A good budget hotel.
thanks
Sorry late reaction was a little busy with things. Great video Pat about Sathorn district a lot of history there I been their only a few time but never explore it good, but I will do it for sure next time. I been on the rooftop of Mahanakhon amazing view but that time I only had my mobile next I will take photo's with my Fuji X-H1 cam. Luckly I'm not afraid of walking on the class floor it really weird to look down and see every thing so small. I did also walk a little bit at the Sathon canal at Chong Nonsi Canal Park. Thx again Pat!
I lived in a budget apartment on the Sathon side of the 3-way border between Sathon, Yan Nawa & Khlong Toei.. was a 2 minute walk away from Mae Nam railway station. Seeing you at Suan Phlu park brought back memories. I used to walk there often, it was about a 10 minute walk away. Good times.
I know where that is, I was down that way last year, opposite those railway tracks are a couple of apartment buildings that seemed nice. You can walk the back way to Sri Bamphen. Yen Akat Road has some nice parts as well.
I never get bored with Bangkok I have been coming there for many years. I always learn something new from your very informative and interesting videos.I am looking forward to my next trip a bit later this year.
Fascinating account of the area and prominent figures. I personally have to pause it frequently to read to take in everything. Could you slow down the labeled stills and sub titles a bit please ?
Cheers
Others complain they are too long....but l will make them longer on screen.
Thanks Pat.
For some of us old timers may have remembered Lucy's Tire Den bar that originally opened on Silom Road 50 years ago moved to Satorn Road 15 years later before going out of business.
Bridge pilings are installed without draining rivers -- as you suggest for the ChongNongSi BTS. As you hint, I suspect they built an enclosure and pumped it out to drill in each post in the khlong. Thanks for another happy trip through local history.
Thanks Sean, it's not a very deep canal but they built the whole line from Chong Nonsit to the river over it so l am sure there are deeper sections and a few challenges, like avoiding the filthy water....
Excellent as always and nice to see you back.
Been from my apartment near Malaysia hotel to my AA meeting at St. Louis hospital hundreds of times. Never knew 1% of this. Thank you so much.
I really liked this video,I just watched the movie the Ugly american last week an you explained so much about the actor. He was a great Thai man.
Many see him as a legend, had such an eventful life!
Awesome Pat. Can't wait for part Two. All the best, Cheers
Nicely done! I live in Sathorn and I'm learning new things about my area!
Good video. It's good to see you back on the beat Pat
Wonderfully assembled from the visuals to the music, informative and engaging. So much more to your RUclips channel than eye rolling food videos. Keep up the great presentations.
Literally about to leave the hotel to go to dinner in Paii, thanks for the video
Thanks for delaying your dinner to watch this Dave! Have a good evening.
Very Interesting Video, also with the old pictures and your Clear Information, also about the History of this part of Bangkok. 🙏
You deserve way more subscribers. Entertaining and very informative. The BTS vid was really useful. Thanks. BTW, love your cat.
Cheers! This kind of content isn't for everyone. People associate Thai youtube with pad thai and bar girl stories rather than what l do so it's very niche content, limited audience but a great audience. 😻😻 Aiming for 50k subs by end off year which is great.
Brilliant video Pat as always !!! Thanks!!!
We went to Chong Nonsi as i recall, good for filming although it was dark by the time we got there.... That bar alongside the track sounds good to me, a cool beer while i film the trains!...... I have walked across the top of the Sathon roads, the night i saw Natty at the Ekkolo Theatre nearby, when heading for the Skytrain back to the Asia Hotel.......
Really enjoyed it thanks looking forward to part ii
Danke!
Thanks for supporting!!
Thanks!
Cheers and a big thanks for the support 😻😻
Another great video. Thanks Pat, keep them coming.
Very informative, I learned a lot new facts about my neighborhood , Thanks
I really appreciate your informative and educational videos, much more interesting than the formulaic standard videos produced by other Thailand youtubers, cost of living, 10 thing I love and hate about xyz.
Just an idea for you, The Pattaya Orphanage is celebrating its 50th anniversary in September, you might want to make a video about this.
Thanks Robert for the kind words. I am due in Pattaya for a couple of days soon to film some stuff, will keep that mind, plenty of time!

You Did better than me on the King power skywalk Pat. I couldn't put one step on it even after 2 beers. 😂
Absolutely fantastic video.
Interesting video. One error, Babylon Sauna did not close in 2019. It closed on the 20 December 2020, I know because I was there, and one of the last to leave!
Brilliant video loved seeing the old black and white pictures and seeing those beautiful old houses and how times have changed thanks for sharing ❤️🏴x
Another interesting and well done video! Thank you!
Excellent and insightful video Pat. Makes me feel like heading down to Sathorn next visit and finding these areas that I know little about
Thanks Pat, another fascinating video. Watching your sped up footage of Bangkok traffic is slightly nerve wracking though.
Don't cross the road when l speed up the clips!!
Great video PAT, your research into these videos is commendable.
I've done the skywalk at Mahanakhon tower, I thought I'd be terrified, but I wasn't at all phased.
Fun to see. Thanks, Pat. I lived off Sathon in two locations; Soi Pipat, and Soi St. Louis 3. Spent quite a bit of time up-down Sathon, catching buses or just gutting it out and walking as there was no BTS in 1990. Thanks, again.
Hey Pat. How about a visit and some history on Nang Leong district, an original Mon settlement. Cheers! Allen
I have said a few times already...best Bangkok Content, just incredible deep knowledge and storytelling. Love watching your content Pat!
Thanks Marc for the kind words. This and part 2 have been a marathon!
@@BangkokPat Excited to see it ! Have a lovely evening Pat
Good timing on this one, I am arriving for a 3 month visit next week and my condo is in Sathorn, first time staying in this area.
This is near where I stayed when I was in BKK Pat. (Bang Rak). I really enjoyed this video! Thanks mate 👍👍
Excellent info. packed doc. video! Thanx, again!
