No bullshit, if HK brought back an HK USP “2.0”; optic cut, update rail to accept modern lights/lasers, co-witness sights, ambi-safety, threaded barrel, jet funnel & high cap (17*) mags….there would be a freaking waiting list.
@@acannon2700: Just another reason WHY they’re not for everybody. Personally I’m happy to own a weapon excluded by most. Most were meant to follow. HK owners aren’t followers.
The USP is not a relic nor is it obsolete. The reason why it is not a go-to pistol for any agency is because it is expensive. The price of the USP has hindered its popularity and adoption as a duty pistol in the States. Glocks were adopted by agencies because they were the best inexpensive pistols on the market at that time
For some reason I never thought of it that way, but you're completely right. HK was so far ahead of the curb, that they fell behind the curb. They were one of the first to design a gun around the 40S&W when it was a new cartridge and the first to have a rail system. Shortly after we adopted picatinny. Now everyone wants an optic too and capacity has even increased. I think some of us still realize that although outdated - these guns are the most overbuilt handguns on the planet. If you had to grab one handgun to last for the rest of your life, I think a lot of people would leave the optics and lights behind and pick up the Mark 23 knowing that as a firearm that shoots accurately and reliably there is no equal.
I regretted selling my USP as well. Went shopping for one this afternoon, and is the reason I'm watching this video. Should be picking one up tomorrow :^)
I love the USP and have most of the major variants. I agree with you about the VP9, but the P30 is pretty awesome in its own rite; especially with a good trigger job.
updated?? no offense, but those guns on you have there are probably the most reliable , well built firearms in the world.. Ill repeat, THE WORLD!! Please dont say Glock Clones ever again, u sound foolish.....
The VP9 is absolutely a Glock competitor. It would not exist if Glocks didn't exist. Also, did you watch the video? I love the USP, that's why I have three of them lol
Great video, sir! Nice collection, too!!! Respectfully, HK did not abandon the USP. It is maybe the most reliable, most vigorously tested, dependable firearm EVER MADE. Why update greatness, when the marketplace doesn't demand it? Would I like a picatinny rail? Sure. However, there are adaptors that will allow you to mount a white light to the rail. I'm very glad that HK continues to produce them. I own several HK pistols. I don't own a USP, but I would ONLY consider a HK USP if I were interested in a .40 caliber handgun. The 9mm USP compact is calling to me, though! 🙂 And, if you think that the G19 is a better pistol, then I DO NOT agree with you. :) (NOTE: Mags for all HKs are very expensive and generally aren't compatible from one model to the other; however, there are some exceptions. For example, the P30sk shares mags with the VP9sk.)
My main complaint is the trigger and the rail, mostly the rail. There's an adapter but c'mon, it should be standard on the new production ones for over a decade. The trigger isn't so much of an issue, especially with a match or match-lem hybrid
@@acannon2700 I've recently acquired a HK USP in .40 S&W. The GG&G adapter works great. I actually LOVE the trigger. It is better than some of my other HKs (which aren't bad for the combat triggers that they are). None of my HKs were designed for competition. I certainly understand that opinions vary, though.
Tomb Raider Legend (2006) is what got me on the USP. After a stainless-slide .40 that didn't cycle a single round of aluminum case and a 9mm that had no decocker, I settled for a new .40 Tactical for 7 Benjamins. I later added a new German-edition P30 gray-frame for 5 & 1/2, half the MSRP price. If luck continues so, I hope I get an HK 23 for half the price! Please, Jesus!!! 🙏🥰
I just held one today in my local shop, 2249, seemed in great shape. It's like a USP.45 scaled up by 15-30%, but it somehow managed to not feel oversized in my hand, despite my hands being just below medium sized lol.
I have 2 USP V1’s in .40 and .45. I like the .40 it is snappy and it hits hard. I just acquired a Mk 23 and its big. I don’t partically think the MK 23 trigger is anything special but it is an awesome gun overall.
Congrats on owning a Mk23. It is an amazing pistol. I agree about the trigger, but I’m pretty sure the DA function was an afterthought. Single Action is where it’s at on that pistol.
The USP is also one of the only pistols that .40 isn't completely obnoxious to shoot. The USP series(and its evolutions being the P2000 and P30) has been my general "go-to" handgun series the last couple years, I know they're dated and the aftermarket is limited, but they just happen to fit me more than most handguns.
I have a USP V1 9mm. Ultra reliable and accurate. It’s funny but I just recently got the itch to get more. Wish I would’ve gotten more when they were readily available in CA. Sweet collection btw, the Mk23 is a grail.
The ring on the USP Compact is some sort of recoil reducing thing, I think. Also, the mags are compatible with the P30/VP9 mags. I could be mistaken about that. But if your VP9 mag fits in your USP Compact, then I'm right. lol
The change over to the nylon buffer ring was nothing more than a replacement of the dual recoil spring assembly found in the full size USP models. It's just a simpler, cheaper, and more compact way of preventing the polymer frame from getting beat up from the slide slamming into it (esp. with hotter loads). I suppose it serves as an additional layer to dampen some of the felt recoil, but that's not really its main role.
I have owned and traded so many handguns over the years. After I bought my Mark 23, I had to try the USP 45. I now have no desire for any other handguns. It is a very bittersweet thing.
I carried a USP .45 on duty for 7 years with 230gr Ranger-T’s, before I went back to my issued Beretta 92FS with the 147gr Ranger-T. When I went with the USP, I thought it was the cat’s meow. But by year 6 and 7, I couldn’t stand carrying it nor shooting it anymore. Too bulky and too top heavy with a 1911 style safety that felt odd to me. I hated the fact that a modern LED weapon light (besides Hk’s junk light), wouldn’t fit without a stupid adapter. My last couple of years prior to retiring, I carried a Glock 17 Gen5 with 147gr Federal HST’s with 19-round OEM magazines. …I liked more bullets without a retarded manual safety nor decocker.
Good question. The number one difference is accuracy… not something most pistol shooters would necessarily notice but the USP 45 is extremely accurate, maybe 2-3” groups possible at 25. The FNX is pretty disappointing in that category, and it’s not just me who thinks that. Another area is build quality, the HK just feels like a much better made pistol.
Everything except for the M1913 rail and magazine capacity, which are pretty easy to overlook considering how badly the FNX sucks in comparison otherwise. I have both and wouldn't trade my USP 45 Tactical for two (or maybe even three) of the FNX-45 Tactical.
