She isnt a twisted version of Peter Pan

Shes exactly what Peter Pan was before Disney changed his story
Abduction of children and killing then when they grew up.
i don't remember this on original peter pan...

That village was hell, imagine having such a rape problem that children take it as a game that adults play and end up copying it to act like grown ups. I totally get why Guts sometimes would just let people get killed by apostles and other creatures.
Remember when the attackers came? The villagers only defense was run into the forest like cowards.
So fucked up. When the elf children started playing war and one rapes the other with its stinger. I was in absolute shock of what I was looking at.
@Ghost Troupe doesn't make it good
@@bigyu8335 it's not good but it makes the story feel real.to the setting. These children became so desensitized to it all they were able to view it as a game. Think of what a child soldier in africa would be like if given the psuedo apostle power
It's not THAT fucked up

Well Peter Pan in the older stories did eat the lost boys when they grew too old. So there’s that.
@@cakenshake Wow that's pretty dark. Maybe he was an Apostle too lol

A 19th century apostle. The new god hand has been at work or something and we’re in the timeline where Guts wins.
Jobany Abasto yup I remembered that part in the original book, that shit ruined and scarred my childhood after watching the peter pan movie.
@John Smith
There should be some action horror story where some badass dude likes guts fighting with twisted fairy tales characters
I believe her human face form would be her "human" form, -if she covered her "ears" and wore some clothes. She actually looks more human than guys like Wyland or the snake baron.
Also, her fight with guts is my favorite in the manga. Guts has never seemed so ruthless and monster like
Guts in that fight seemed so ruthless that he almost looked like the monster in this situation.
@@hollowedkvng2115 agreed. At one point he literally uses the intestines of a kidnapped child to help himself win. (I mean, that child was already doomed, but still it was such a shocking panel)
TheBd62 I think the one that made him most monsterous was burning the psuedo’s and having them turn into literal children corpses, and watch him keep moving like it was nothing.
Though it’s evenly matched by being stabbed by a stinger through the mouth, only to turn his head and start killing Rosine even more aggressively.
@@hollowedkvng2115 yeah, any other manga -or even any other fantasy stories for that matter, would had the children in the cocoons turn back fully human when roseine died, heck they would've probably had put Jill into a cocoon to raise the stakes at the least minute and to give Guts something to fight to "save" rather than just fighting for revenge. But ohhhh no, not berserk, There are no happy endings in berserk (at least not at that point in the story)
TheBd62 I think that’s one of the things I love the absolute most about Berserk, the fact they make everything you’ve known and will come to know in other fictions look similar, deviating from the norm in such a way it’s just captivating.
And I honestly love the fact that they made such a dark and bleak setting at that moment, it’s the precursor to say “don’t trust me when I write something, getting too calm will only hurt u when i put my spin.”
Love this manga
I’ve always pitied Rosine. When I was a kid, and even to this day, I’d always choose fantasy over reality. Poor thing never stood a chance, y’know?
Philz H I guess you could say Rosine got hit by reality on her face.......I know......its the worst joke I could think of
Guess it was a way to say that you have to live in the real world, even through its darkness.
That fantasy may be great, but it can’t be eternal, as the horrors of reality will come and bite you eventually.
Hollowed Kvng I mean if she had just ran away immediately upon meeting guts it very well could’ve been permanent he can’t keep up with her she can fly at twice the speed of sound
Oberstruhmfuhrer Schrodinger Thing is Rosine isn’t mentally sound enough to be able to do this for long, as eventually she would end up meeting Zodd or someone else with her running, and that would be it for her.
Not to mention that despite the fact people like Irvine, Zodd, Grunbeld, etc....can control their bloodlust, she can’t. I mean she was gonna clap Rickert if the SK didn’t come through, just because she can, and keeps preying on her village to the point that Guts got more flack for being a person with a fairy, than he did being the Black Swordsman (initially)
I just can’t see it lasting with her personality even if decided to run, from Ganishka to Griffith to the aforementioned apostles.
What happend to her at the end? Like after guts defeats her
I'll take Guts' quote for the rest of my life: *"THERE'S NO PARADISE FOR YOU TO ESCAPE TO."* But when he says that to a child who wanted to run away from her horrible life of abuse and violance, that was really sad.
Guts will seriously needs to remember this quote after the destruction of Elfhelm!
In all fairness, Guts didn’t know about Jill’s sexual exploitation, from his knowledge she was just being beaten. A much better fate when compared to being raped and eaten by a demon.
Fun fact: the speed of sound, aka Mach 1, when measured in knots (common unit for aircraft speed) is 666 knots.
Oh shit! 🤣
Don't forget that the burning of the library of Alexandria halt the humanity technology advancement by 1000 years, what that means is that I could already have technology that can make Rosine come out from my screen and perform adult attack on me by now :/

One of the most important chapters in the story. We're used to seeing people who were pretty selfish and power hungry before their transformation, so becoming apostles is more of on outward manifestation of who they really were inside. Rosine was the complete opposite, but after transforming, you could see her humanity gone all the same. Death and sexual assault were nothing but games.
It also shows us that Guts, who is shown to be protective of Jill (and children in general, especially when the adults around them act cowardly and selfish) would show absolutely no mercy to anyone who made the sacrifice. Not even a little girl.
She also has a jet like thing in her apostle released form which I thought was also cool. She's definitely an interesting apostle considering her backstory which makes you feel sorry for her. I really want to know Zodds backstory on why he became an apostle.
My guess is, he was a warrior much like how Guts was before being founded by the Band of the Hawk. Roaming from battlefield to battlefield, doing nothing but swing whatever weapon he held in his hand. At some point he found a behelit somewhere along the line of his battles and dropped it in his pocket for whatever reason. He must have entered a battle where he was left severely wounded and left to die on that battlefield only to be founded by gracious caravanners trying to get away from the fighting.
Was cared for by the owner's daughter, and began to fall for her. It all came down on him for when he overheard a doctor that just got done examining him say that there would be no chance to ever return to the battlefield. And then the little fuckshits in the Abyss sent him illusions similar to Grif's, of how he would be nothing more than an invalid that would be nothing more than a burden throughout the remainder of his sad pitiful life. I'll let you fill in the blanks of what the rest could entail.
The twisted version of Peter Pan is, the original Peter and Wendy novel. When the lost boys hit a certain age, Peter would kill them “thins them out" is the line used.
If Peter Pan became an apostle .
.....yea
C S I mean, Peter Pan in the original book cannibalized the lost boys after they grew old. So there you have it
@@Somespideronline On top of slitting the throats of many people in cold blood.
Her final lines made me feel dreadful. It's something like, "Mom, Dad, i'm coming home. I wonder what's for dinner?"
It's such a sad line that coincides with the Peekaf story. She made the mistake of wanting to live with the Elves, and when she went to return home, there was no one waiting for her. She truly regretted what she did, just a tragic character.
Rosine is indeed one of my favorites apostles. Unique and well written. This might sound perverted, but I am not, I like that Miura draws her with a preteen chest. This visual alone gives you a constant reminder that she was in an age somewhat close to womanhood, a stage of life that was against her tomboyish attitude towards life and adults, but also close to the age of childhood wonder. She would be in the middle, where kids think they already have a complete understanding of the world and wants more independence but also desires to not take difficult responsibilities and stop playing 24/7. She is discarding her adulthood as a woman, somewhat similar to Casca but obviously in a completely different way.
I like to think that Rosine's father used to be a good father until Rosine turned 11 he began to have doubts that Rosine is his daughter thats when Rosine's life became a nightmare. I think that when Rosine turned 14 years old that is when Rosine sacrificed her parents to the main villains of berserk.
AYOOOO THE FACT HOW LIKE A HUNNRED PPL AGREE WITH YOU BRUH
@@boogus1670 I mean it sounds weird but he’s got a point.
now that i think about it you’re right
Rosine is one of my favorite characters, one that I want FAR FAR away from me.
I wonder how she would have turned out to be if she never became an apostle, with her goal to be a elf and create a "childish' world against the "adult" cruel world of Berserk.
I believe she would have protagonist potential if she got a power-up and didnt go the Griffith route.
I mean you could probably just offer her some cheesecake or some thing to make a friend and I wouldn’t be too bothered by being one of her pseudo- apostles the giant bug people that is especially if I get to choose my form because I’m definitely going for something like a tiger beatle. Other than that I would convince her to live in the Amazon rain forest and go after poachers and loggers that would be fun
Rosine gave us an important lesson in berserk.
Just because youre a supernatural powerful demon who munches on humans for fun, does not mean you are incapable of terror
I love how the story did a "turnable" where the monster is the victim instead of the prey...
My favorite chapter in the manga. It takes genuine talent & skill to create a monster you don't want to see die, but know can't be allowed to live. Kentaro Miura was the best RIP.
Guts never had a childhood, while Rosine was a child who never grew up.
One of the best Apostles in Berserk, and that is definitely saying something.
Wasn't it implied that she also had some non consensual things done to her by her fathers' friends when they were drunk?
It would go some way to explaining the "adult attack".
Oof
Is there evidence of that happening to her?
I beleive you are thinking of Jill who had flashbacks of those nights and it was most likely the reason Jill was in the forest when she met Guts.
That was Jill, not Rosine.
That was Jill, but still the elf children grew up in a world of war, they certainly witnessed or experienced rape, torture and murder.
I always wondered if Miura drew inspiration from Devilmans Harpy nemesis when he created this 'enchanted' elf.
You mean Sirene?
Yes, Miura stated that Devilman and Hokuto no Ken was his inspiration to make berserk
You mean Go Nagai.
I love Rosine
Her story was really sad, honestly i wished she was implemented in the anime with Wyald, they were very crucial in the story, besides, if i remember Rosine appeared for a few seconds in the 1997 anime near the end of the arc. In the manga she was extremely powerful.

Right
From the moment she was introduced in the lost children arc I had a feeling it was gonna be a sad one
It would have been interesting if she didn't cross paths with Guts and lived to see how Griffith unified the worlds.
She would have definitely been one of the neo band of the hawk. She was powerful, and not as wild and blood thirsty as some apostles can be.
I could definitely see her being, as TheBd62 said, a Neo Band of the Hawk member, obviously through submission though considering she would be able to take down many other apostles and her bugs would be a problem.
But I could definitely see her get slapped around and then promised a world where she and her elves can rule, and joining in immediately.
@@hollowedkvng2115 she would have made a good commander of the scout division, like how the other neo hawks each seem to have a role (archers, lancers, ect..)
TheBd62 Agreed, her flight and easily created pseudo-apostles and their flight (children variant) would make scouting a breeze for her. Could see her also adding to the Hawk’s numbers by being the only Hawk (which we’d see) make the victims of attacks into pseudo guards rather than just be killed off
@@hollowedkvng2115 exactly. Which really makes me wonder how the story would've been different had skull knight not saved rickert before the eclipse: she clearly is more focused on building her "hive" than mudering or eating humans, so can you imagine if Guts would've had to fight him as a guardian pseudo-apostle???
Just finished reading this arc and I found it very confusing and different than the previous ones. But I liked the change of pace and character development. I only felt bad for Rosine just before she died and was speaking with Jill noting how Jill was actually the one that found a real elf and not herself. Great video also

This is one of my favorite series on youtube rn
Rosine really isn't supposed to be sympathetic; if anything, she's supposed to be a representation of how dangerous the lack of a moral compass is in children, or those who take refuge in fantasy. People in general think kids are really pure until the world corrupts them; anyone who has been systematically bullied or seen a victim in school knows better. The "purity" is simply the lack of understanding of consequences, that is as terrifying as it can be innocent. As such Rosine to me is, to scale, the cruelest villain in Berserk.
Thats a interesting take. Rosine was so "pure" that she didnt even realize what she was doing was evil atleast the other apostles know what their doing is f'd up.
With most Apostles, you are taking out a disgusting menace, with Rosine, you’re doing a mercy
At the end of the day Rosine has killed a ton of people and indirectly killed loads of children, for her own enjoyment. Unpopular gaming opinion, but I think she deserved to be killed. But Guts was also by no means in the right with his actions through the arc
@@keithsimpson2150 No, I don't think Joel's decision was as bad as this (or was even a "bad" thing).
Rosine (apostle) intentionally murdered and kidnapped both adults and children; In Joel's case, it was a totally human decision, in which he interpreted that a certain group wanted to take away what he now saw as his second daughter, without consulting him, *or her* ; You might think that it "condemned" humanity, but the truth is that if we look at the second game, the cordicep is quite secondary and humanity is recovering quite well
@@franklynp.9135 Other than the two nights who she had is familiars the others were all bandits which means if she weren’t attacking the village they would actually be safer so it’s not like the adults she was kidnapping were anyone good. You have to remember this is the berserk world everybody is a murderer and one and two dudes are rapists.
@@gemy2756 I'm a bit late, but I'll try to answer your question.
From what we have seen of the apostles so far, they do act of their own free will. A good example would be the Count in the early chapters of Berserk. He refused to sacrifice his own daughter at the cost of his life and spending eternity in the abyss.
I do sympathize with Rosine's plight. She was a kid who wanted to look for a happy place, a paradise, and just be a kid without having to worry about abusive parents. I however, think that Rosine the Apostle deserved a far crueler death than what Guts gave her. She murdered innocent adults and indirectly led to the deaths of other children by kidnapping them and transforming them into elves. She did all that of her own free will, she was by no means "influenced".
What Guts would have done in those same circumstances does not matter. Rosine deserved the death she got because of her actions, not because of some moral high ground Guts claimed

I wonder if we will ever see Jill again? Maybe as an adult after a time skip?
Considering that we barely see an aging on Sonya or Mule on chapter 371, if Jill will be reintroduced(maybe as a member of Rickert's group), she'll probably be 15/16 Years old!
She either made it to falconia and is living there or she was killed by a astral being
I recently finished this arc for the first time and felt so bad for Rosine by the end of it. The things she did were absolutely evil and there is no honest way to justify any of her actions as an apostle. But I still can't bring myself to fault her for seeking contentment through the twisted escapism the Behelit provided her. Much of what she and the other false elves did can be chalked up to them mirroring what they had witnessed in their horrific upbringings in a village that already resembled hell on earth before she became a demon. It would have taken a very strong will to bear through what she did without seeking some form of escape from that life.
Overall, I see Rosine as a victim. First of human cruelty and second of the Godhand's sick manipulation, both of which resulted in her turning into a monster both figuratively and literally. Was she evil? Of course. Did she deserve to die? Maybe. I won't lie, I would have liked for her to have a happy ending. In her last moments she felt a remorse uncharacteristic of nearly every other apostle, she not only directly regretted her actions but also regretted using the behelit in the first place. During her final doomed flight the Rosine I saw was no longer a monster; she was simply a lonely young girl who wanted to go home to a loving family - a family which had tragically never existed for her in the first place.
Crazy how the quick flashback too Rosine activating the behlit made me Sympathize with someone who had kidnapped and mutated hundreds of children
She was just a kid who had ran away from a terrible home. And after being found by her parents she is beaten by her father. Sacrificing them so she can have the fairytale she always wanted

Man...just imagine if Final Fantasy XVI took the dark medival route, let alone one as dark as Berserk. Well, probably not as dark, but it would be interesting to see Square Enix's take on dark fantasy.
Faidou Final fantasy 7 and final fantasy 8 and final fantasy x did have dark fantasy themes..
I would kill to see that.
Dragongard 1 is basically dark fantasy.
Final Fantasy 7 is basically Berserk but a bit more light hearted and more science fiction. A spiky hair traumatized protagonist who put on a facade to appear "tough" but is actually just a vulnerable man who use a big ass sword to fight a long haired beautiful guy who haunted him.... The director of Final Fantasy better admit the Berserk influence.
Thanks so much for making this. What a fascinating backstory. They need to adapt this at some point.
Until recently, I wasn't even familiar with Rosine. I saw her in the original Anime, but that was it. I love her story and how tragic it is. In this case, I'm going to say she deserved better. What abused child wouldn't want to make their parents go away, especially if it meant living out their dream? It seems like the Godhand warped her mind after she was reborn, so most of her sins can be forgiven in my eyes. Poor child.
Reading berserk for the first time was rly one of the first moment i've rly felt this appalled by any form of media. But from how great kentaro meura is as a writer it rly makes me appreciate berserk and good fiction all together.
One of my favourite characters in Berserk.
I feel bad for rosine in many ways, she’s just a little child who wanted to live a life of freedom with no worries and problems. If you think about it,rosine is like us when we were children cause when your a child, you just want fun and wanting to explore so much of what the world offers
Plot twist: Skull Knight is Peekaf. Remember Puck said Skull knight felt like a elf? Maybe the story of Peekaf was real?
Haha just kidding. That would be interesting tho
A berserk D&D game would be really cool and to have this as a reference. But a game that would fit berserk better would be Zweihander
I think with a few modifications and you can easily do that. I haven't checked out the conan rpg book yet, but that should a similar enough setting that you would not have to do much to get it to fit berserk
I really liked her as character, i hear alot of people thought the part with Rosine was the worst, shame it didn't get adapted into animation.
This video is all i know about her and i love her. Also she is impossibly beautiful. What inhuman artist was drawing this personification of Heaven?

I just read the lost children chapters and Im fucking depressed... I feel so bad for Rosine
You know, I would have vomitted during the 'play war' scene with the fairies, but the eclipse already emptied out my stomach.
Edit: You know, the psudo bugs that fly in swarms and devour in seconds have one glaring weakness the village could have exploited. Smoke.
When bee collectors approach a hive, they use smoke to daze the hive and safely collect the honey. Small insects have tiny lungs and can easily suffocate.
You should do the slug count next
Apostle : H- Guts: NO
rosine is one of my favorite antagonist, cause honnestly i felt sad for her cause the dices were piped against her from the begining. in her case i'd say i can't justify what she did but at least i can forgive her, killing her in the end was the only mercy she could be given.
I’m honestly torn on my opinion of her, on the one hand she was an Apostle, so by definition she was a monstrosity that not only killed numerous people without any semblance of remorse. She also kidnapped small children and turned them into perverted versions of elves that she essentially used as toys that could easily be replaced when they “broke”.
But on the other hand she is a little girl who could no longer take the harshness of her reality and desperately wished for the fantasy world she dreamed of to be real. And the God hand gave her the power to do just that. Though because she was corrupted, she unwittingly turned her dream into a nightmare.
One thing for curtain it is near impossible not to feed sympathy for her in her final moments where she tried to fly back home to her long dead parents, and much like the end of the story she loved, she could never returned home.
But what if Guts had a flamethrower and a heat-seeking missile? Good luck surviving that Rosine.
Flamethrower: she's durable enough to withstand it, especially in her full-apostle form.
Heat-seeking missle: now we're talking but, if she's in full apostle form, it would run risk of getting outpaced since she can break the sound barrier. 50/50 chance I would say.
Man that Adult Attack thing was so dark
It's like what Jet Black said in Cowboy Bebop's arguably best episode "Pierrot Le Fou": "...and really, there's nothing more pure and cruel than a child".
One of the best battles in Berserk. Brutal yet you felt sympathy.
Horror and fairies are like my two favourite things ever so naturally i absolutely adore this arc
I also sympathise with Rosine. I had a friend a long time ago (she was actually the only friend i had as small kid) and i dunno, something about Rosine reminds me of her. I don't remember her homelife being all that great (or i just remembered getting that vibe), and she was misguided and would often react in a aggressive manner, but she was overall very kind and i didn't feel left out with her. I don't know how she's doing know though.
I guess that in the end i can't really blame Rosine. She was a misguided child who got caught up with very dangerous stuff. The adults in her life didn't take responsibility, and so a monster was born. She was definitely in the wrong, but she was still so young, and we all know kids act out and don't always have a moral compass (which is why parents and other adults must take responsibility to discipline and teach them), and in her apostle form all of her hatred, childishness etc etc were amplified. I dunno, i just really can't bring myself to hate her. My hate is directed to the village's adults. The elf children wouldn't have acted out rape & war etc if theh didn't witness ot themselves at some point in the village. I doubt Rosine forced them into playing such games, but who knows
Easily my favorite apostle
Your intro is so good!
Probably my favorite story in the blackswordsman arc, so many feels
I do empathize with Rosine, but, I am still using that giant bugspray bottle. That shit must die, as the more it stays around the more it spreads pseudo-apostles and becomes a bigger menace.
I personally think she’s one of the most justified apostles. But Beserk isn’t a Black n White (Not Griffith+Guts lol) kind of tale so it’s ALWAYS going to reflect a more realistic grey area no matter where you look lol
1 thing is that "ROSINE IS THIC AS F"
She was so desperate that she also sacrifice her mom where she could have just sacrifice her father... But maybe it wouldn't have work because you have to choose something dear to you.
Precisely. She loved both her parents and you know the drill: the sacrifice only works if the one you offer is dearest to your heart.
Otherwise, the deal can't work. You do the math.
People really kept living in the village where swarms of insects kill and eat you and kids regularly go missing? You’d think after the first 5 or so you’d be “aight imma move”
Where would they go no place is safe in berserk
_Angry adult man penetrates a moth loli by his huge sword_
Ngl I cried at the lost children volume
Took a while for a child to appear in berserk with all the rape themes, stunning.
Well Guts was a child (who was raped) during the golden age ark
Well probably her earliest days you feel kind of sorry for her Before she became the nightmare moth creature or to fake elf
My favorite demon from berserk tbh.
Well it’s definitely more unique than saying someone like “Zodd”
Though can’t blame people for loving Zodd, he’s lit.
I think rosine ultimate felt remorse for her actions
It's easy to pity Rosine because her ascension as an Apostle wasn't because of selfish reasons. She didn't want to live in a world where her parents are fighting, where there is no hope for a little girl from a tiny village in some place. Especially in a world like Berserk, where warcrimes are just a thing that happen, you wanna escape reality.
I personally would've spared her, but... Guts can't do that.
Rosine represent the sheer darkness of the Berserk. It’s tragic how Rosine was corrupted and become a demon
I know everyone always talks about how good the lost children arc is but i could just never get past how miura drew rosine…. Like sure she’s not human and isnt actually a child but he drew her to look that way. If there’s a reason for why she had to be drawn to look like a sexualized child please feel free to explain it to me.
Also, dont confuse me with those twitter hacks. Im NOT offended by any means. I still love Berserk as a whole and love the Berserk community.
Can you talk about upper moon 1 from demon slayer
6:36 idk Peter pan kinda creepy to tbh
One of the few apostles I can’t help but feel sorry for
I do feel bad for her, but I also believe she had to be stopped
