- Watch as one man coordinates the items of four CPU players duking it out on every track in the game! Which corner of the AI is better at racing AND has better item luck?
By the way, you might notice that sometimes a character celebrates when someone else won. Don't worry overmuch about it, the scores are accurate in the end.
I do believe the codes used for this video are as follows:

Based on the Mario Kart 64 scoring (9 points for 1st, 6 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 1 for 4th), the results would be as follows:
Toad: 76
Mario: 63
Yoshi: 82
Wario: 85
Does this mean that Wario rules Mario Kart 64-and gets to rename it Wario Kart 64? Not necessarily, since only four racers were considered in this sixteen course contest. Peach, Luigi, Donkey Kong and Bowser have yet to be considered in this setup. Also, CPUs lack a human's creativity and strategy; they stayed mostly on the course.

Seems like the 4th playing losing "animation" going ham on every spin out that takes place. Who knows why, but it's entertaining lol
Excellent showcase of the rampant rubberband AI. Seriously those speeds the CPU's made were inhuman back in those days. It was the only way that could the player challenge.
well to be fair they heavily nerf the AI in newer ones, on mario kart tour 200CC i feel like the AI in 64 out speeding them. they get mad and throw a blue shell at me to catch up.

Seeing this, I'm *glad* computer players in Mario Kart 64 can't use all the items.
Geez, this is a like a war of the robots seeing as how like every 4 seconds some lightning bolt hits everyone. Stars all the time! Red shells at no end in sight, goodness.
The computer gets to use two items, since they're getting one from the item blocks like normal but also an internal one in their AI.
Also, really weird is that the computer players sometimes randomly blow up for no apparent reason, sending them out the boundary sometimes.
I always wondered why sometimes you can see the computer on the victory screens in Mario GP getting picked up by Lakitu for no reason.
The computer also gets the drafting boost all the time, not just when they're drafting behind another character. So much crazy hilarious cheating going on. :)
The AI, if left off screen, their paths sometimes are off the course and when you get close enough, gravity finally applies to them and the fall into that out of bounds zone

he was doing good until the beach level then he manage to get smacked by invisible items the whole time and crashed into stuff.
There are things I don't understand:
- CPUs are not supposed to be able to use triple items or red shells
- in-game musics aren't supposed to be played in 3/4 players mode

Someone said the CPU in MK64 cheats by using aspiration boost, this is why they tend to be sticky with us: with this video, I got the confirmation ^^

The CPU state that is used in this video is the D0 state which is capable of using items from the item box. It was most likely never used because of the noticeable slowdown; CPU have more animations in this state. The D0 code has drifting abilities, but it's incomplete for many tracks. The final A.I. use infinite drafting to keep up with human players.
***** do you know how to use that cpu state in the emulator? or how to enable it? i would love to try it on an emulator.

It's funny when the racers spin on a banana peel then blow up in the air like the ran into a fake item box or get hit by a shell or someone with a star. Watching the cpu race against each other than have a player in race was, overall, cool!

The number of lighting is insane you get in multiplayer even though they have to alter the items in a multiplayer vs but still crazy.

Something tells me that's just a VS side effect but i'm not very sure about it
Not always, though.
E. g., Toad at 5:12, Mario at 18:53, and Wario at 34:11.

Nice video, I've been trying to get the A.I. to register items from the item box in one player mode. The CPU states you are using are not used in the final code. The 90 state is what is used instead of D0. I have the codes for players 1-8. The only problem is that it causes noticeable slowdown on real n64 hardware.... It makes sense why they scraped the A.I. that was used in this video for simple A.I. with less animations. I don't think I'll ever get the A.I. to use items from the boxes. There are no active windows for all 8 CPU racers. The game is inefficiently coded. There are so many redundant calculations done by the CPU that waste resources. The tracks are coded very strangely... You would think Rainbow Road is a heavy resource track. Nope! Moo Moo Farms is more resource intensive!

I suggest trying this CPU race series again, this time with a slightly different CPU lineup of Wario, Yoshi, Toad, and Peach, the latter replacing Mario. Consider giving each CPU a different character from last time to test whether the characters or the CPUs make the advantage.
10:15 Shouldn't Toad be saying "Aaaaaaaaaaagh" at powerful attacks. "Owowowowow" is when being Spun Out/Finishing in 5th-8th place.

Mario was just better
A glitch on DK's jungle parkway is that Mario finished before Toad and Yoshi finished before Mario. Then Toad finishes the race and he went from 3rd to 1st when all racers already finished. I hate the CUP's hacks.
There's this one part in Royal Raceway where Mario was getting lightning on him (along with other 2 people) and it sounded like he said, "Mom," during the time. XD

Hey how did you make it in 4 players so there would be music playing? Because in the versions that I’ve played 3 or 4 players each map’s soundtrack would never play

It's a side effect of the computer-controlled players. I don't know exactly why it happens. Perhaps something about the character still being a player?
Them spinning around and then flying up in the air looks like a glitch from being on versus mode.

If those are just CPU, now I get it when a was first and suddenly the second place (a CPU) gets right by my side, even when they are far away, they got that "rare nitro" every time until they catch you...

Lol, when Mario gets struck for the second time at 20:24 (Who says lightning doesn't strike twice?), he gets invincibility for some reason... I always wondered why CPU players would sometimes do that... I just always assumed that for some reason, CPUs were able to use the starman, even when shrunk!

There is one Ptoblem here, this wasnt played on any N64 Console whatsoever but a strongly modified Emulator to provide 60fps gamrplay eith full power AND RACING MUSIC plus there was no Course Selection like usually aka the Emulator is programmed to skip a few parts. BUSTED!
... This was played on a mere basic copy of Project64 1.6... RUclips wasn't capable of displaying 60fps back when this was uploaded... The music was added with Windows Movie Maker... And the course selection was removed with Windows Movie Maker, as well...
This one time I won all the races but Rainbow Road. My friend took the shortcut and I took second on that race.

Ahhh, yes... I remember, now. I converted the extended songs into a Movie Maker format, then manually placed them and even lowered their volume when appropriate. l'm surprised l really did all that for a forty minute video!

How are you doing this? Is there a way to keep AI opponents from cheating by keeping them onscreen all of the time like this? And how do they get shells from the powerup boxes?
I'd like to see the races, but without using items, just to show off how much CPUs cheat.
This is nothing compared to the level of cheating the CPU's did on the SNES version.
The problem is the CPU's in the SNES version had their OWN items (Yoshi had an egg, Toadstool had a shrinking mushroom, etc.)
Have you ever played the "Hooting Time" mk64 mod??? if you did a video of that i'm sure you'd get a lot of views, it's a really fun mod.

You can change sound mode during races by pressing the L button.

Wait...I can understand the item hax at times as well as the sudden boost in speed (since I figure that's how CPUs constantly come back to pester the player), but how is it that there are times where one CPU comes in first place in a race while at the results screen, it says that there was another? For example, in DK's Jungle Parkway, Mario clearly got first place...but then it gave the victory to Toad.
When a human player crosses the finish line, their position is locked in the moment they cross it. However, when a computer player crosses the finish line, their position doesn't lock in until the results screen shows up (only for those who are behind the human player; those ahead of the human player will lock in once they finish.) but here, because there is no human player, the cpus' positions do not lock in properly, as if a human player is technically in 0th place, resulting in these oddities.
