I just finished watching this movie on Loklok, it’s a great movie! No dialogue but it has more depth than a lot of modern films out there. The soundtrack and the overall composition were enough of a dialogue in my opinion, and the 3D art style gives off a vibe that I can’t quite put my finger into, but it’s very comforting.
I went to see it couple months ago in the cinema and I thought it was one of the best film I had seen in years. I went with my daughter and mother and it appealed to all. Very well done
I understood this film as a portrayal of two ways of life - either you leave the world behind, the people behind - even your friends or family...to ascend. Or - if having no choice, because you just are not at that level yet - or choosing "this world" and its people, your family, friends, your life - you can or literally have to choose to stay behind. At that point, the only two things that can keep you from drowning is your life purpose and your friends/close people. The portrayal was black and white... (no pun intended - quite literally it was). You either choose one or the other... and it is a very sad, very scary thing and it makes me wonder if that is all there really is... if there is no other choice. The viewer is meant to empatize with the main character - the cat - who chose to stay behind. Probably not because he did not want to, but because that is who he is, authentically... - he found the value in people around, instead of a solitude life of comfort. And he could not reach a point that the bird could. The bird did not bat an eye to leave everything behind, once it was time... once he could. I don´t know how to feel about this film, bu visually, it definitely was a beautiful movie.
In your interpretation the bird is the higher being. But in some sense I am not so sure about it. He ultimately was not able to belong and find some balance with others and had to leave this world. Cat also constantly tried to find a spot higher than everyone else (in his house, on the statue, on the top of the boat while everyone else argued) so he would be apart from others and their issues. But though he followed the bird first, he already had changed during the journey and decided that he wants to stay. And if he wouldn't have capybara might not have been saved and everyone of the group would just need to grow back in their old ways, their old disfunctional groups. I think the message in a sense is that we can at this point only evolve as a group together. And everyone is important. And not everyone can be saved ( like the whale) but we should be there for people even if we can't do anything to help them.
@@nv8972Show the perseverance of the whale it kept holding on until the flood eventually came back to open water where it can finally be free as it deserves.
From my point of view, the movie “Flow” is a touching and visually stunning representation of how a cat experiences the devastation of its home due to flooding caused by the construction of a dam. Observing the abandoned houses and the submerged environment, it is easy to imagine that this event, from the cat’s perspective, feels like an apocalypse. The narrative of “Flow” reminds me of the story of Shi Cheng in China, a city submerged underwater to make way for a dam. In both cases, human intervention in nature has drastic consequences for the original inhabitants, whether human or animal. The film poetically captures the confusion and displacement felt by the cat as it navigates a world that has changed irreversibly. Through the cat’s eyes, the flood is not just a physical event but a total transformation of its reality. The images of submerged houses and aquatic landscapes create an atmosphere of desolation and beauty at the same time, highlighting the resilience of nature and the adaptability of living beings

Crucial point: no matter how much one loves cats or doesn't, the movie very quickly transcends this bias. The main characters tell a very deeply human story, with symbols and allegories that any age group and culture can instantly relate to. It teaches without feeling that it is teaching. Apart from the technical marvels (the accuracy of animal movements, the rendering of the real-but-fantastic-looking scenery, the animation of the water), the human story is so perfect for our current, utterly crazy and scary, times. It is, dare one say, therapeutic. It really gave me a lot of questions after the bird just randomly left the entire falling action. Somehow, it gave me the interpretation that the tower grants *wish*. If you study the characters of the animals closely (even in real life) birds tend to k!ll themselves when separated from the group or their partners. (1) The crane got abandoned by its group, and (2) The bird knows that the cat knows that those dogs were bad news, yet the cat still gave empathy to the dogs, maybe the crane felt betrayed by it and lost hope? In the end, they went to the tower, (i remembered the weathering with you scene, where the girl wishes for the rain to stopped, and similar situation wherein the scene (floating, water evaporates, a glimpse of heaven). Maybe the crane gave up and wishes to go to heaven? maybe the cat also wished for the water level to go down/ wishes for some land? or maybe the white crane wished that the animals would be safe by asking for trees, lands, and etc.- AND THERE the price for asking such wish costs the life of the white crane? (again this is weathering with you reference. With oriental beliefs that "Every wish comes with a price") Although there are many interpretations that the audience could think of, we are still united by the fact that this movie touches the heart of every man. Even without dialogue, this journey of a cat is a very heartwarming and wholesome one, it's been so long since I've seen these type of movies. The movements, actions, symbolism, and its theme are spot on! Almost burst into tears when I saw the whale, I thought it survived.. and maybe.. that's where the cat realized (that also reminded me) that "one's comfort, is another's suffering."
This movie was great and just so pure. You just remember why movies are an experience. Just a story. Nobody famous. No famous director. No drummed up story. No massive marketing. Just a clean film experience. A thing you rarely get.
I want to see this movie ASAP.. thank you for your review. Great insight and the movie's impact on the trailer alone got me enticed .. I love animals ... heck all organisms... grateful.
‥…Yes, 100% agree with you there. I really wish it was more openly shown. I live in the city of Duluth, Minnesota, and Flow was only being screened in one small, ambiguous theatere. This film truly deserves more love and recognition alongside all the previously established acclaim. It is simply too beautiful and touching in such an enlightening way to ignore. There are going to be a lot of people in this world who would’ve absolutely adored Flow deeply if they were only simply informed about it. If only this thought was wrong… If only more could see Flow.
That's so crazy cause I also have two black cats that look very similar and I felt the exact same way about the film! It's so good but intense cause I constantly saw my cats in the main cat's situation and it made it far more emotional for me.
I don't care that much about your review, but it's an amazing film and i'm bumping this video with comment and engagement to appease the youtube gods for more people to know how amazing this hidden gem is.
This would be a nice game. you can choose what animal you are and as the story goes you can also choose the original cast or different animals to join you on the boat, with each decision affecting the ending...I'd play it fs😊
The deers are running away the same as they were in the beginning of the big flood. Guess it's the second wave coming. Seems like they were heading to the higher ground/mountain where the bird was saved/abducted by god/aliens. 😂
I think that it's cycle where a creature of the sea and a creature of the sky are sacrificed to save the world, but it's necessary that a creature of the earth becomes the herald of the creature of the sea, the cat in this case.
I just love the idea of a journey of animals that pulls at our ❤ but doesn't use real animals. To do a lot of this with real animals in a live action film most likely would have been even more heart breaking to watch.
What I get from this movie was bird sacrificed himself to remove flood. All of animal wished for another flood to help whale survive hence, cycle repeats.
Thank you for this video, just watched this 2 nights in a row because I couldn't stop thinking about it and how beautiful it is. I have to disagree with you though, in your thinking that there's nothing particularly deep happening here thematically. I think the whole story can be taken as an allegory, and on more than one level. I'll leave that up to you to discover on a rewatch but whether you appreciate it on all those levels or not, it's a breathtaking achievement.
@@schmeldwicksmith5379 that's great to hear! I actually agree that there are several levels upon which the film can be viewed - including allegorically. I still think that the themes are not particularly deep, but this is not meant to be seen as a criticism, necessarily. I'm so happy you love it - it really is beautiful.
@@philosopherpessimist8125 I mean, Zilbalodis has been quite clear about there not being a singular "correct" way to view the film - the inherent subjectivity is a pretty intentional choice. Hope you enjoyed it, regardless of how you may choose to interpret it :)
That scene is inherently subjective, so I don't believe in one "absolute" explanation. To me, though, it's very much a metaphor for "letting go" and not fighting against what the world is trying to show you. Both characters begin to accept various aspects of themselves they were previously fighting against, and as a result, go with the "flow" and are taken where they need to go. Bear in mind, that's just one person's perspective!
@@Kraflyn On one hand it is a pretty obvious death moment on the other the cat searches the artefact for his feathered friend and there is some moment of anti gravity aso. but yet the view also clearly exposig, focussing on the birds broken wing. The bird appears very moody in the end.. the bigger question is, will the water rise again, because when you wait, after the score, you will see the whale back in the water again, the same or another one.
Question for you awesome hauler guys. When all of you are out on the road, do all the different teams that are under one ownership travel together basically? In other words, do you all stop for meals and take rest periods together? And how about the different series ; Xfinity and truck? Where do they park and unload say at Bristol and other locations, as well as the cup cars? Must be hard logistics! Any answers to these?😊
Been frantically trying to find out when this movie will be viewable in Australia. Not even the few remaining art houses have it on their schedule that I've seen. Expect I will have to wait for streaming 😖 Hey distributors: get this move down under or I WILL pirate it! PS: oh, any my beautiful boy, Sirius, even has the same meow, never mind the same looks. OK, his eyes are more green. 😻 EDIT: as for length, speak for yourself: I'd watch an 8 hour version, even if my bladder exploded. 😹
8:22 - According to the Wiki for the film, the animal calls you year in the movie were recordings of the actual animal involved. (Except for the capybara; they used a baby camel for that since the actual capybara vocalization didn't sound that great when recorded.)
When the capybara laid down and knocked over the lemur's stuff that was 100% planned the capybara had to put in the effort to move there specifically and he seems like the animal version of "No... Remote... too far...."
I just finished watching this movie. It's indeed beautiful. But, could someone please explain me about the ending? Somehow the world will be submerged again to save the whale? And about the bird that somehow descend?
It looked like the animals looked and themselves and thought who they were. The light tunnel the bird went into was a typical visualisation of near-death experience described by many.
I dont know if im stupid or the movie is smart, i didint get most of it. I love cats and animals but it kinda just left me with a buch of questions. What was up with the whale at the end? Why did the water appear and disapear so suddenly? What happened to bird? It was cute and preety, i liked when the creatures united in the end overcoming their problems (greed, toxic freinds, being a capybara) but it felt... empty? Idk it just wasnt very satisfying. I feel like i should like it more but im just left feeling more confused than satisfied. Maybe i just dont understand it, if someone could maybe elaborate as to what i missed that would be great but as far as im concerened its a really, really, REALLY pretty movie that really confuses me. Am i looking to deep? Also i never cried, their was never any moments that made me sad tho i was a lil upset when lemurs mirror was broke. Am i just dumb?
Well, my understanding is that the flood was caused by another planet getting close. When the bird got pulled away was the planet the closest to the other planetary body. It was a gravity from he other planet that caused everything. Of course this is how I see it, I could be wrong.
@@dprezzz1561or may be entire movie was just an analogy. Flow means time, and it washes away all living being. And cat wasn’t a cat, it was it’s soul along with souls of other passed animals, travelling on Charon’ boat to post mortem realm. Take a closer look, in the beginning of the movie body of passed cat was quickly shown lying on the shore, these were two or three quick shots, giving just a glimpse of a hint. And movie end loops with the same shot, with the cat looking into the pool of water (like in the beginning) and seeing his reflection as a statue and realizing it actually passed away, that’s why this world is so strange with no people around

or maybe the white crane wished that the animals would be safe by asking for trees, lands, and etc.- AND THERE the price for asking such wish costs the life of the white crane? (again this is weathering with you reference. With oriental beliefs that "Every wish comes with a price")
Although there are many interpretations that the audience could think of, we are still united by the fact that this movie touches the heart of every man.
Thank you for the great review:)
@@guntarsskabs and thank you for the kind comment!
Thank you for your awesome review! Can’t wait to see it!! 🐈
@@redjeeprico my pleasure!
This movie was great and just so pure. You just remember why movies are an experience. Just a story. Nobody famous. No famous director. No drummed up story. No massive marketing. Just a clean film experience. A thing you rarely get.
Saw flow today at my local AMC and it had me balling crying 😢…. I myself a black cat so it reminded me of him lol
What a handsome kitty guy!!

I want to see this movie ASAP.. thank you for your review. Great insight and the movie's impact on the trailer alone got me enticed .. I love animals ... heck all organisms... grateful.
It's a good one!
This movies is out for streaming, go watch it again ❤
Absolutely beautiful movie...both visually and the message of the movie itself. Not in a lot of theaters..which is a real shame.
Flow does a really job at tackling the theme of mortality and the ephemeral aspect of life, giving it real gravitas.
Just saw it last night, it was fantastic.
@@timtwoface glad you enjoyed it!

This would be a nice game. you can choose what animal you are and as the story goes you can also choose the original cast or different animals to join you on the boat, with each decision affecting the ending...I'd play it fs😊

Like scanner darkly but with animals. beautiful movie. You are 100 % correct, people in my theater were very vocal and it was all positive
@@lukaskywalker7791 Interesting comparison!
can someone tell me where i can download the subtitles for this movie? i dont understand the ending
Subtitles for a film would be for dialogue, of which there is none.
@@candicraveingcloude2822 can you tell me what happened at the end, what was the whale doing there and why it became just a puddle of water
@@user-gy4xp2tu6fIm guessing the flood repeats, so that the sea creature can survive
Even though this movie doesn’t have dialogue, I can still imagine what there saying.
Bro im gonna put it at the same S tier as the Wild Robot it well deserves the oscar. Especially for the directors first big film.
great movie
10/10 wouldnt recommend
(was at the verge of tears for ¾ of the movie)
@@user-V711 I wasn't just on the verge! Haha
@@PointsofReview Oh, man. I think you absolutely have not understood the movie.
@@philosopherpessimist8125 I mean, Zilbalodis has been quite clear about there not being a singular "correct" way to view the film - the inherent subjectivity is a pretty intentional choice.
Hope you enjoyed it, regardless of how you may choose to interpret it :)
I enjoyed this movie way more than some much higher profile/ bigger budget Hollywood movies 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
@@soumentalukder4750 glad to hear!
I hugged my cat tightly after watching this film
@@johanrautenbach7459 same here!
what was the meaning of the gravity collapse scene please? 0o
@@PointsofReview Yes, but water droplets.... :3
@@Kraflyn Well yes, it is surreal.
@@PointsofReview Droplets let go too :3 At first I thought some big planet was passing by, or colliding with us... Then I thought: aliens...
I really hope this film will get some love in awards season this year, even though i haven't watch it yet
It's getting some nominations - probably won't win much, but hey... still getting love!
Bro just predicted the future
The bird character was very interesting. Is all I could say
Great content!
@@francisgagneart cheers!
What happen to the bird at the end of the movie? Was it the cause of the flood to die out?
Of the animated films that I have seen this year, I'd say this was the best one of all. Definitely better than "Moana 2".
Any answers to these?😊
The whale survived

GO SEE IT IN THE THEATER THIS WEEKEND!!! The experience will NOT be the same on streaming.
Great film loved it very much. I just didn't quite buy how easily a small cat could master swimming.
EDIT: as for length, speak for yourself: I'd watch an 8 hour version, even if my bladder exploded. 😹
Google says it will be released in Australia 20 March
8:22 - According to the Wiki for the film, the animal calls you year in the movie were recordings of the actual animal involved. (Except for the capybara; they used a baby camel for that since the actual capybara vocalization didn't sound that great when recorded.)
noah’s arc actually wasn’t even thought abt or referenced during the making of this!!
Where can I watch this ?
Currently, it's still on a limited theatrical run. It will be available to rent/stream online starting January 7th!
Major themes and metaphors for us living in WNC
i cried so much during the movie
Honestly, it felt like the story of Noa and Jesus Christ all in one.
When the capybara laid down and knocked over the lemur's stuff that was 100% planned the capybara had to put in the effort to move there specifically and he seems like the animal version of "No... Remote... too far...."
PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I CAN WATCH!!!
Fire stick
Were you watch it
I just finished watching this movie.
The art style reminds me of the Last Guardian game
