- 👉Gary and Zu are OBSESSED with the new RG35XX SP, and while stock OS is fine, there's always something better out there. With that in mind, they decided to try muOS, a CFW option that's been around for a while, but who just recently kicked it into high gear with their BEANS update. This CFW has almost everything you need and they've already added stuff you didn't know you wanted for the next release.
Join our intrepid duo for this fairly comprehensive guide on how to download and flash muOS, how to add roms, bios files and art work, and then how to configure muOS with themes and settings guaranteed to give you the best SP experience! This guide should apply to all rg35XX H700 devices.

Ordered mine yesterday! Thanks for the review, I got the blue one but this one looks cool and with the stickers would look even better!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for this! Once mine arrives I will be using this guide!
I've been looking for a video like this for like a week
This is fantastic. Thank you
I made the cursed Beanz theme ahaha, great video!!!
I LOVE IT
very cool!
Sick man.
You gonna make one for the Banana version next update? I might actually use a banana theme 😂
@@mrp1zz492 I’ve been thinking about it… 🤣
Great great install guide young lad. Bloody brilliant. Thanks!
Thanks for the tutorial! I really want to try muOS but I’ll probably wait a few months before switching. For my use case, haven’t had any issues with the stock OS. Battery life is great and I’m only playing 1 game at a time
Thank you, Sir 👍
Easy to follow the guide 😊
this video is a godsend. thank you for putting all this information together!
This is a really good video! I put MUOS on my RG35XXSP and its freaking great. But I can play freaking Stardew Valley on this thing! And every retro game until ps1. That's what surprised me the most. Because I saw Retro Game Corp play it on his and I thought it was so cool. The custom firmware these guys put out is amazing and I wish I was smart enough to do that 😂
*edit got ds emulation to work! Just refreshed the image, and bam, it was working.
Realizing that you sound like a young Bruce Campbell, has made my day. You definitely have a sub
OMG I hear it
Live watching your videos brother. 😁
1. How's the performance compared to stock for N64, DC, and PSP?
2. Is there a way to adjust contrast & saturation in MuOS?
3. Is there a hotkey to switch between Joystick/dpad and C buttons for N64?
4. Is retroarch all setup with key mappings and hotkeys?
5. How long is boot up time and exiting games?
6. Is the dpad & button remap function working in retroarch and external emulators like on stock firmware.(press power and R2 to toggle)
1. The same or better.
2. No.
3. Not yet, is being worked on.
4. Yes.
5. 12 seconds from button press to main menu on beans, even lower on newer test releases. It closes games almost instantly, don't other cfws also do this?
6. There no such function.
This guy is making a lot of sense!
Nice tutorial as usual Zu Almighty
Just got my xxsp, the stock os suck, thanks god I found this, many thanks!
How? shipping just started today lol

@RM Thanks for the tutorial easy as pie even for this old man 😊
That "what did we learn sign" made me laugh. like!
how different is the border for GBA games from the stock one? I really liked what anbernic shipped with the slight inset shadows and the gameboy advance sp label. look like the original
It's very similar.
Ordered mine and it's in the pipe, my understanding is that the stock OS has adhoc wifi multiplayer for games with the second controller inputs coming from the second device, is that right and if so does muOS support that?
Please tell me this has an MP3 player, with phones coming now without an audio jack this has become a necessity for me
It does, under Applications on muOS.
@@zu_perler3011 Is it GMU?
@@zu_perler3011 an video app too?
Just get an actual mp3 player. Better da converters and amp = better sound. Sandisk makes a decent one for like $20.
@@armyofninjas9055 But this plays games, videos, and music.
I want to test my ports on the RG35XX SP!
saving configs in game works fine for me in Retroarch, you just gotta be careful whether you are saving per game/core/directory and some options are saved via overides
Battery performance goes down with MuOS, plus there is no search option! I switched right back to stock OS, might reconsider with future updates.
Good to know
Battery status doesnt properly work. People have been playing for hours on MuOS with status on 0% (me included) Stock os has been similar for me.
Question, say I wanted to throw in another SD card into the second slot to hold all my roms, how do I go about doing that? I saw on the stock OS you just put in the second SD card and it copys all the folders over. That doesn't seem to be the case with MuOS though. Do I just copy all the folders and files from the SD card with the OS onto the second card? Hope I'm making sense.
I just tried to put the 2 sd that I use on the stockOs here on muOs. The SD 2 MuOS sees it and works. It sees all the roms in the emulator folders as they are structured on StockOs, but it doesn't let me start the MAME, MDCD, PCECD roms and another one that I don't remember now. It therefore means that for muOS they are placed in the wrong emulator folder and I should move them to the right one (which I don't know what they would be for muOS). But by moving them, it wouldn't let me start them again when I reinsert it with StockOS. So for me it's not worth it, because I can't change the same SD as the roms when I change between muOS and stockOS. I should have an SD for the roms on muOS and an SD for the roms on StockOS. No thank you.
Have they figured out the sleep mode and do they have audio out for the hdmi? I am running batocera lite on mine and those things are not working right as of now. I would be up for changing to muos if they handle these better
Sleep mode is coming for the next version.
Mine arrived today. Not sure if I should use this or keep to stock. I have thought about knulli as I'm familiar with batocera but have heard it's not great for low powered devices. Probably need to get a new SD card as I've only got 2 64gbs or one 512 spare. Great video.
I'm working on a muOS update video for this week. It's fixed all of the little issues I ran into so far.
@@retrohandhelds I'll certainly have a look at it.
dumb question but i have a 2 card setup with all my other games on stock OS
do i have to redo my 2nd Sd card to upgrade to muos?
Does this support OTA updates or require a reflash for each update?
I added roms etc after I installed the img file. Does it usually take this long for the system to boot?
If they can make it autosave the game and then power down into some kind of sleep mode when the magnets are activated, that would be perfect.
While it's frowned on to share where ROMs are grown, is it agains the rules to share where to farm for cheat files? I never really use cheats, so I hadn't thought about it. But, if not, it's some interesting content I haven't seen anyone produce.
Cheats are fine to show. MuOS will have the lid magnets working in the upcoming release
Can you do a tutorial for knulli on the xxsp?
can we install standalone mame and run game & watch games? the retroarch mame and handheld electronic core aren't great
I've never messed with one of these before but I bought the SP so I have a couple questions. First, if you're flashing the OS to the SD card, does that mean every time an update is released, you'll have to flash it again, and lose all the data on the card? Second question, would it be better then, to flash the OS to a smaller 16gb or 32gb card, and then use a 128gb card in the second slot for bios and rom storage?
yea my thoughts exactly. bios and config should be read off the Roms sd card
Zu, where do we put the libretro database 1.19.0 file and the TBS.artwork folders?
I'm using a 512g samsung I had lying around. Its taking so long to format
Nice. Need the Same with MinUI
I got it setup on my sp but it keeps freezing in the middle of playing a game or sometimes on the main menu
Thanks zu 🙂
Nice to see @ciskao theme!
After setting the date I was forced to go through a very long "reset" process. I assume this wasn't normal, because you didn't show it in the video
i i nstalled i t and w as working fine and now it just stays stuck on the booting up screen :(
How can you add Custom Loading images to Existing themes?
If I'm running muOS on my RG35XX-H can I just copy/paste my muOS install from that device to a new SD card and just pop it into my new SP? I have so many customizations and boxart already setup I dont want to redo everything. Thanks!!!
There are behind the scenes things on the card, so you'll want to flash the OS to the new card, but from then on you can just copy your old stuff into the new card. You can even hot swap them - you just need to go into settings and toggle the device type from H to PLUS.
Help! I install themes but i cant see anyone in theme picker menu, any Solution?
Is it possible get a smaller SD card (16G) for TF1 to flash the OS and a bigger one for TF2 for the roms? Will MuOS be able to handle that? I was able to do that with ark os on the 353m, so I hope I can set up the 35xxsp in a similar fashion.
Yes!
@@retrohandhelds That’s perfect! Thank you for the guide!
Seem to be a little bit of work. Will try it once my xx??? is here.
Im confused. What about sd slot 2? can I add games to both? Or how do you do it???
I just tried to put the 2 sd that I use on the stockOs here on muOs. The SD 2 MuOS sees it and works. It sees all the roms in the emulator folders as they are structured on StockOs, but it doesn't let me start the MAME, MDCD, PCECD roms and another one that I don't remember now. having trouble downloading the OS, tried 3 times and it says its corrupted ;(
How do you connect a bluetooth Controller in muOS?
Dosent work with 2 sd cards, will not find the second sd card, tested on 2 types of sd cards new, sandisk and kioxia.
I was about to tell you to clear your device; however, I just realized that I just finished eating ramen soup...
Does MUOS support roms compressed in 7z format?
Dragon Warrior III in your favorites??? You must be a fan of the jobs!?
Did they fix the sound on the hdmi yet?
I want to like it, but it's been glitchy for me. I can't get portmaster to work, and the time is always out of sync. I can't get openbor games to work either.
They are already aware of these issues.
The Next Version will have that fixed.
You can implement Ports manually.
I implemented 37 Ports.
Atari ST and ZX Spectrum don't work.
Has anyone ever done a fallout pip boy style os? I think that would be way cool
MUOS says "Content Not Found" on the main menu when I try to find my roms (on a 2nd SD Card). However, Im able to load and run them in Retroarch. Did I miss something?
Nevermind, im dumb. I forgot to put them in a folder called "ROMS". I had named the SD card "ROMS"
75% of my footage is me doing the same thing. I just edit it out in post. 😂
Worth mentioning that it's much faster to copy the cheats zip folder to an SD card first, then extracting it afterwords 👍
Good tip!
Is there something special you have to do. To connect to the WiFi I can’t get mine to connect it can see the WiFi just won’t connect help
Mine will get a little hinkey every once in a while. I just toggle wifi off and on a couple times until it wants to cooperate. You can also reboot if that doesn't work. This CFW is still in beta, so things will occasionally glitch.
Good video, but man, the material quality just doesn't look good from these videos. (I wasn't too happy with my rg35xx, either.) Honestly bummed, and I hope either the flip is better/as good as the plus or we get some goof quality aftermarket mods.
It looks great from the top. It’s just that seam line that runs down the SD card slots that bug me. Looks really cheap. Looks less apparent with the transparent models
Kind of a noob question but can this keep the GBA SP overlay that comes stock?
yes
How do you enable analog controls? Like where is the setting. There's definitely alot of learning curve with this. Retroarch is hardcore. It does not even have detail description or help menu. Also everyone says that you can click the power button for joy stick. But that does nothing for me. I'm trying to play n64, I have tried all 4 analog stick options. I've looked under hotkeys, theres nothing I can find. That shows analog controls. I was hoping I just had to enable it under hotkeys and set it to power button. Any help be great. It be nice if they made software dedicated for these devices. They show so much nonsense and even pc settings. Is there a detailed video on how to set up rg35xxsp or detailed retroarch videos with everything explained? No trolls please, genuinely trying to get help. I've emulated on my pc, tablet, phone. But this is just difficult to grasp everything.
what's that ds game you show?
What is the DS example game at 13:25?
Final Fantasy Tactics A2
but I have found a bug, in TV mode the audio comes out through the console speaker.
It's not a bug, the feature its not ready yet, this cfw its a work in progress

Also make sure you put the bios files in the bios directory
@@MrSkinnedpuppy the issue was with the installation, once repeated all worked fine.
Do you have this popping sound during boot?
Yes.
How do people have this already? I ordered a few hours after it went live and they only shipped mine a few mins ago from china
Reviewers are sent early models, so that they can get reviews out early. Additionally, some people in China are able to get them super quickly, since they don't have to worry about customs or flights.
i preordered 5 hours after it went live and I received my SP 5/25 in the US.

Fortunatelly i had All the work scattered Around, but you should see me screaming :-)
The big thing you missed imo: if muOS doesn’t automatically identify what system your games are for then hit *select* in that folder to pull up an interface to manually assign a retro arch core or external emulator to it.
This version opened up all of my roms without the need for manually assigning them. The only issue I ran into was changing the arcade emulators around, but that's just the cost of doing business with MAME stuff.
@@retrohandhelds that’s definitely the intention, but under the hood it’s a huge manual list of what people might be naming folders based on logic and known conventions, so if for example you had your snes roms in a folder named “play these first bob” you’d need to manually assign an SNES core still. I hang out on the server and chat with the devs a lot, lol.
how to put cheats uu
As a new person who knows nothing about this. I am trying to set up my device. You totally lost me after I downloaded the zip file. I have no idea of anything else you're talking about. You didn't really show or go into what you're talking about once extracting the files. I don't know what you did after that, because you just named a bunch of things that beginners like myself wouldn't know. So, at last able to download a file... That I have no idea what to do with.
Does MuOS make N64 emulation any better?
Where can I find the bios? 😢🙏🏻
Internet!
MuOS is not for the faint of heart. You need some tinkering experience to make everything work. PortMaster is a 50/50 Hit/Miss rate.
Just copy the bios files from the stock OS sd card.
Do you have a list of GBA 2.0 games to save me sometime.

disagree does everything stock does and more, totally possible to configure retroarch the same way as it is on the stock. I moved and setup the bezels for example, as the ones on the stock os are far better
