  • If you've ever eaten wild Alaskan Salmon, then you've taken part in a chain of events much longer and more complex than the simple act of barbecuing or going to the store. You've stepped into a story that began far off on the coast of the North Pacific, where a salmon hatched from an egg in a stream. That little Salmon fry then rode all the way down that stream to the coast where it made its way out to the Ocean to feed for years on smaller fish that in turn feed on the phytoplankton that bloom in the nutrient rich waters that make that region so rich in life. And then that salmon made its way all of the way back, full grown this time, towards that river where it came from where it was caught in a net by a team of fishermen, like that of me and my crew. Take a look, maybe you'll learn something.

Norsel has always been such a sweet boat, looks like you guys did a bump of speed when you ran gear ( I know you didn’t) and got to deliver to my buddies on the Oregon. Sure hope their system is as good as it was in the ‘90’s.

Can't stand Salmon, it's way too fishy taste. However you guys and gals work your asses off and that i respect it 100%. The world would be a better place if everyone worked like this. Thanks

+schlaznger You don't eat alot of fish i reckon?? Pacific Coast Salmon(King, Sockeye, Silver/Coho are some of the best-tasting fish in the world IMHO. Not fishy like sardines, herring, smelt. You must of had a bad exp. eating some salmon in the past to comment like that.

You guys must be in good health eating all that fresh Salmon. Liked the video a lot. Hope we humans leave some of this beautiful natural wealth for the generations to come after us.

I too am hopeful there will be salmon left for coming generations but, I highly doubt it if nuclear waste plays any part in making the oceans and other fisheries unfit as a food producing source.

Much respect for you Alaskan folk. One of the only meats that just tastes amazing on its own. Keep it up and remember to watch that eco-balance. Never allow capital to become a reason to plunder the blessed waters of Alaska.

Great Video! I worked on the Norsel for a number of years in the late 90's. We had some great times, right Steve? Lucky Strikes unfiltered after a boat load back from Point Muzon to Craig and Secret Spot X which turns out was not so secret after all in Cordova Bay. A fork in the road lead me to stay in New York but a large part of me still pines for that sweet little boat. I'm glad to see her still simple and serene as ever. Well done on the film. And what's up with the yellow purse line Steve? Is that spectra? Is that a question that is even asked these days?

Great job putting it all together on film! Brings back some great memories of when I was a greenhorn in the 1985 season seining on the FV Patti Lynn out of Ketchikan. I was fresh out of college waiting to attend UPT (Undergraduate Pilot Training) with the USAF. My brother, who has been fishing for over 30 years helped me get the job, thanks, bro!
