    Hi everyone, at 4:34, if you change the guestlanfw Input to Reject (and press save), you don't need to create addition firewall rule like what I did at 9:08.

      i followed your tutorial but i found out at the guest interface, hosts cannot get IPv6 but the other LAN can. Why is that?

    Hi Van and friends,
    I want to set up same SSIDs for my 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz network. However, there is limited information about bandsteering on OpenWRT. On advanced router, combining both network bands is necessary. I hope you will have a video about it. In OpenWRT with no bandsteering setup, the router let the clients decide the band. Usually, they are stuck with poor 2.4 Ghz.

      I agree, I could not find any solution for this problem. Making a video for this basic configuration is helpful.

    I use my ISP's provided router for my DHCP and I have an old WRT1900ACv2 as an access point with OpenWRT.
    I do this to use the wireless radios on the WRT1900AC instead of the ISP router (OpenWRT having better control of settings).
    Is there a way to create a guest Wi-Fi on the access point rather than turning on the radio in the ISP router?
    The ISP router offers guest access but also creates a private network of its own that I don't want to enable (I want the number of wireless netwerks kept to a minimum).

    I have made a Guest network on my main router and intend to extend the coverage to a secondary router on the same br-lan port without sacrificing a LAN port just for a guest network. Would that be possible?

    good but how to control guest bandwidth over lan and wifi?

  • @francocastilloAR
    @francocastilloAR 2 года назад

    I see some errors and would make modifications: I would have two bridges, one for private lan (br-lan) and one for guest lan (br-guest), on both routers. Following the video, it is fine that I have removed lan1 from the "br-lan" bridge to use it in a guest interface, but instead of creating that interface, I would make a "br-guest" bridge in the Devices section. With the new bridge, I would create a new interface in the "Interfaces" section and specify "br-guest" instead of "lan1". In the configuration of the new bridge I would add the port "lan1" to be able to connect the second router. All this configuration is to "mimic" the "br-lan" configuration because it is the most "correct" in my opinion of how it should be configured. You can also add Wi-Fi interfaces for being a bridge. In 4:19 he modified the default settings of the new zone, but they were not saved because he clicked on "Edit" of the zone. If you check at 4:26, you can see that the change from "Entry" to "Reject" was not saved, therefore you can access via guest network later.

      You are right, thanks for the input. I didn't save the change for new guestlanfw "Input:Reject", that why the guest network still able to connect to br-lan & LuCI/SSH.
      For the interface configuration, your setup will work and it "lookalike" the br-lan. However, the document from openwrt.org for guest wifi/network advised to create the guest interface instead. From my test, there is no difference in term of throughput between bridge and interface while the setup is easier for beginner. That's why I go with it.

      @@VanTechCorner Ok, but if you want to have a guest network on each Wi-Fi band, you are not going to be able to add them to the guest interface and you will have to do what I recommend and that is to create a bridge. It is no more complicated than what was done in the video. Actually, I had to start analyzing the video because it was difficult for me. It is also because of the new configuration syntax and the separation of layers 2 and 3.

    Hello Van can you please make an X86 install video with openwrt 21.02 on hard drive, especially showing how to extend a partition please. So that it uses the whole hard drive. Thank you

    • @VanTechCorner
      @VanTechCorner  2 года назад

      Hi, my videos focus on demostration. To understand each of the option, you can learn the basic about OpenWRT first and then see the docs included in the video description.

      @@VanTechCorner I understand. I know the basics of OpenWRT, it is mostly self-explanatory. Although there is variety of options taht are weakly described in OpenWRT documentation. And there is very little explanatory videos for them, in fact there is only OneMarcFifty channel.

      Hi, I will not make a all-in-one video tutorial as it is not for beginner. You can check the below videos/docs and learn how to configure it on your own:
      - Tor client - openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/services/tor/client
      - Adguard Home on OpenWRT - ruclips.net/video/yMcM40ipDlQ/видео.html
