This short is based on the Brothers Grimm story of the Bremen Town Musicians. This was also the case for the namesake Ub Iwerks cartoon for Comicolor that got released a year later. Its take on the story, surprisingly, is straight up similar to this one, with a farmer kicking out his useless animals only for them to save him from some robbers who have taken over his house.
